    --[X] Invest two windfalls.
-[X] {Self Improvement} (Occult) Tempering your body and soul with Embers: Through possesion of the Golden Apple given to you by Lord Typhon, you understand how to warp and shift your body, mind, and soul to greater heights of capability. While you are presently limited to the peak of human capability, there are hints of a way to break through to something beyond human. (Costs one action) (You may use untyped dice to boost your capabilities)

(Spare points from the work action that don't result in windfall will instead be added to a pool that, when full, will increase your weekly pay that you no longer have to deal with the automatic windfall reduction. -[X] Yes: Replaces the Better food purchase option with the Food Offerings purchase option, which is the Even more Food option listed below the Better Food option.

Unrelated: let's try to make a flamethrower attack at some point. No specific reason, I just think it'd be neat.

This post will bare roll results.

Okay, results. Bare minimum performance at work this week, seems the economic breakout has subsided this turn. Gain three windfall brings your total to 8, purchases totaling 7 windfall bring your windfall down to 1. Socializing mabel went poorly, turns out asking a fire spirit to help you with that might not have been the right choice. you squeeked by with a high enough result to not scupper your relationship with your boss thankfully. Tempering your passion was a resounding success this turn, so you gain a Yellow Bile dice going forward and avoid mental damage as a result of the success. You kindle two embers and roll two degrees of success with your Experimentation. Fully unlocking the powers of the flame scarred tablets. Finally you fuck up the air ritual. There will be mild consequences as a result. The full details of which you get to define! Finally, your favor with The Typhonic current remains at fourteen after tending the altar.

What dogshit rolls are these...

Well, whatever, looks like it was a busy week at the Job, but we still did our part, but we presumably just didn't have time to finish the Air Invocation I guess? Half DC should be enough to avoid some kind of backlash I think.

Well, at least we avoided any major calamities, though clean-up is going to be irritating. At least we could afford our expenses though and we've got another die going forward!

Also, wait, we need to overkill the DC on tempering to avoid Consequences too? I guess the Elemental stuff is relatively low key starter stuff, so a failure shouldn't be catastrophic.

When yall took analysis a couple of turns ago one of the downsides of analysis was that if you failed the reattempt you'd take 1d2 points of mental health damage. you succeeded at the reattempt so you avoided the consequences of you not being able to handle your carefully laid plans going awry a second time.

It occurs to my near sunbleached brain that yall have a ward up against hostile spells. Wouldn't be too much of a stretch to include the attentions of a pissed off wind spirit in that would it? Would someone be so kind as to roll a 2d8 for the attentions of the hostile spirit, followed by a 4d6 for your wards holding off it's attention?

Edit: To explain, hostile elemental spirits attack your stats that they align to, so it's the spirit's puissance versus your blood + the two dice from the ward.

Sure, I can certainly make this worse.

EDIT: Great Gusty wins, but only barely. So that should still mitigate the effects I hope? Wards aren't all-or-nothing, right?

Ah, hold up, we have a new Untyped Die and this was one of our last actions, can we use that on defense to hopefully put us over the top? We got that from our better Bed meaning Better Sleep, and as I said, this was one of our last actions on the list, so we might have already had it by then?

I'll allow it. Gonna start working on the Results here. So they should be out tonight

Yeah, somebody pointed it out to Alectai that the Salamander was supposed to help with the work but instead they put the Salamander aid on the Socializing actions were it was unnecesary.

Maybe more people should have bringed it up to change the plan.

...

Wait, really?

Seriously? I did that?

Fuck me sideways.

Yeah, that was a fuckup on my part. Not the intended use. but it probably did end up saving us from actually flubbing it because that last die was the only one that wasn't complete dogshit, so I guess it worked out?

Turn 11 Results
Winning Vote: Plan: Building our Foundations Further

There was a lull in the near frantic pace of business. Perhaps the endless stream of costumers you'd become used to weren't the norm for the Crystal Gardens? It was actually a bit of a boon for you, you'd been looking for an opportunity to have a chat with Mabel. Sure her mood had been sour this week, but surely you'd be able to bring it up with some scintillating conversation?

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the Salamander you'd evoked last week kept distracting you from your attempts to strike up a conversation with your boss. Usually through attempted hijinks, it spiked up the fires of the candles lit in the back, quashed the incense braizer a few times, and generally drove you spare with dealing with it's nonsense. Mabel's mood did seem to improve at your attempts to keep the Fire spirit under control, chuckling to herself and suggesting you finish up that ritual you were evidentially working on before the month was up.

Confused at why she wasn't worried about a flame spirit mucking with her candles, she gave you this enlightening nugget of information. "The spirits of the shop are bound to protect it from damage, if your Salamander intended to do anything other then mess with you, they'd have kicked it out."

Resolving to try and get to know Mabel better at a latter date, you returned to your mystical preparations.

(discovered that assigning spirits to tasks not within their wheelhouse will still see them attempting to help, but you will never succeed at a task if the spirit's aid would normally cause the action to succeed, at best they'll keep you from fucking up too hard.)

You split your Kindling this week, normally you do the kindling all at once, but with your Brazier already mostly full, you resolved to keep the second inscribed paper back for after you made your second attempt at improving your passion.

Reassessing where you went wrong last time. You realized that you would need to ensure that nothing would distract you while your Passion Kindled. Drawing the attention of the Daimon to you as you settled down in a meditative pose. You tasked it with suppressing anything that would distract you from heightening your passion. Seeing the spectral book pile issue a single page saying "Acknowledged." you return your focus to your core.

As before, you slowly drew each of the four Embers from your Brazier and settled them within your heart. Inhaling deep as you used your lungs like bellows to excite the Embers to greater levels of heat. Stoking your furnace even as parts of your attention tried to wander from the lengthy and tiring process, only to be bound back into place by soft ties of parchment and words of encouragement.

As the fire reached it's height within you, you caught, for just a hint of a moment, a glimpse of something greater. Steaming tears of loss trace down your cheeks as you returned to reality. Your heart burning hotter then it had before, almost bursting forth from your chest with the intensity of the fire burning within you.

Overwhelmed, you realized you could only do that once more before any further attempts would cause your heart to burn its way free of your chest. Your feeble mortal flesh would need reinforcing before you could safely reinforce your passion beyond where it presently was.

(Handicapped triggered! the Frailty of your mortal flesh reflects upon you spiritually as well as physically, you may only boost your Yellow Bile stat two points beyond your Black Bile stat safely. Trying to boost Yellow Bile further will inflict health damage if you haven't improved your Black Bile stat.)

(Boosted your Yellow Bile stat to 3)

"What was that?" You ask the Daimon of knowledge as you relaxed in your nice chair. The Daimon of Knowledge seemed to think for a moment before unrolling a scroll from it's body, etched in the runes of the Fire cult. To your concern, you realize you can understand the script.

"A glimpse of Promtheus's Burning Brand."

(Glimpse of next stage gained, you must consider the glimpse you have witnessed to gain a hint of how to go further beyond. New Research option unlocked.)

Igniting the Second of this week's Embers. You settled in to do a full review of the Flame Scarred Tablet. Your brain immediately seized on the probably best way to work this particular brand of magic. Pulling an Ember from your Braizer, you held the glowing ball of flame in your hand for a moment before pressing it into the Flame Scarred Tablet. The Ember slipped into the small clay tablet with ease, red light softly glowing from the glass veins running through it's surface as it sat there. Existing in defiance of all reality. Weirdly it didn't feel like you had removed the Ember from your Braizer. Just that it was a bit... distant. With an effort of will you pulled on the Ember and it moved from the Tablet to your Brazier, the Glass veins returning to their normal black color. Operating on a hunch, you pushed that same Ember back into the distant hollow you felt and the Ember moved to the Tablet, it's veins once more glowing crimson. Tenatively, you pushed the original Ember into the Tablet and saw as the light intensified and the Tablet began to warm. Not a lot, just barely above room temperature, but still.

Shuddering slightly, you drew both Embers back into your Brazier and sat back in wonder. You had artificially expanded your Brazier, and could do so as long as you had clay and Embers to kindle. Furthermore if you could cast spells through the clay then if you were to discover more destructive applications you'd have a safe medium to cast them through. Or at least a less directly harmful way to cast spells that might cause harm to the casting point. Idly you considered a clay wand or staff...

(Clay items used to kindle Embers expand your overall Brazier. If destroyed you loose the extra capacity. You can cast spells through items that expand your Brazier. Further experimentation is needed to discover your effective range.)

(Flame Scarred Tablets increases your Brazier Capacity by Three.)

The final chamber of the Elemental invocation circle is nearly complete. Surely a slight imperfection wouldn't be that big an issue right?

You were painfully wrong, part way through the intonation of the Sylph you felt wind buffet you, disrupting your concentration as the Wind spirit that was supposed to be your ally took umbrage with the improper inscriptions you'd made. The vaguely feminine form of a cloud of mist took your throat in it's hands and squeezed.

Your wards flared in the back of your mind as a tiny spectral crocodile flew from your bedroom, within which lay your newly purchased and freshly used bed, and clamped it's tiny jaws on the back of the angry spirits head, trying in vein to pull the Sylph off of you even as your own internal winds swirled within your lungs. Trying to keep the angry spirit from stealing away your very breath.

If you hadn't slept so well last night, you might have had to do something drastic to get the murderous spirit off of you. Instead you marshalled your will and cast the Sylph out of your home.

From your new position laying on the floor, back against the cabinets, you desperately drew air in as you tried to massage away the ghostly sensation of a crushed throat. The feeling faded after a time, but you feared you wouldn't be so lucky to escape unscathed next time.

(Ritual failed, hostile spirit banished, new appreciation for restful sleep gained. No progress this turn.)

You might have splurged a bit on purchasing your new bed, utilizing your credit card to cover the remaining two hundred dollars as you got yourself a luxurious queen sized mattress with all the bells and whistles. It plugged into the wall to heat itself in the winter time, adjusted to perfectly fit your body, and even had the massager attachment built into the mattress in such a way that you didn't feel it's presence unless it was on. Making the decision to permanently increase your food budget all that much easier as you considered the unparalleled heights of luxury you were experiencing. You'd need to put in the hours over the next few weeks to warrant Mabel increasing your pay enough to cover the new expenses, but it would be worth it.

(Food budget increased, windfall expenditure required until pay is increased to maintain this standard of living. Gained additional untyped dice from restful sleep.)

You stood before the crackling fire. Thinking of the question you had phrased. This was a tad bigger then you'd originally planned, and straying worryingly close to asking dangerous questions... But you needed a place to practice your fire magic. Somewhere isolated and unlikely to burn down that you weren't likely to be disturbed in. Somewhere you could reasonably reach.

You interrogated the flames, standing still with notebook in hand ready to record whatever insights came to you.

The flames begin to whirl and crackle, street names, stretches of road with distinctive landmarks, turns. At the end of this dizzying array of fragmented information, you saw a stretch of empty road, the scene shifted showing the same road from a different angle, revealing weathered concrete and a solid iron door. Something lurked behind that door. Something that had been locked away and left to starve. Something united in purpose and burning with the flame of retribution. Something that had been murdered and yet clung stubbornly to the material world.

You recorded your insights and thought to yourself, wondering if you were ready to face some of the world's darkness. You found after a moment of soul-searching that you weren't quite sure.

(You have identified an exploration site. Something possible dangerous looms within that site. You must either cleanse the location or reach an accord with it's inhabitant(s?) before you can make use of the site as a training area, and possibly other things besides.)

((Fuck that took way longer then I was expecting. Expect the new options tomorrow night at the earliest, Tuesday night at the latest. Need to work on my book))

Yeah, that's fine. Black Bile was next anyway, so no great loss in either the short or truly long term. In the middle-term this means we can't specialize too hard, which is relevant, but not bad per se.

(Flame Scarred Tablets increases your Brazier Capacity by Three.)

This, however, is amazing. Truly amazing. Expanding our brazier is fabulous. We need more clay and to spend a few actions really filling up so we aren't low after every time we do a stat-up.

Agree, increasing our Ember capacity is a priority.

I think there will be a limit of how many Flame Scarred Tablets we can have at once, otherwise it would be too overpowered.

(discovered that assigning spirits to tasks not within their wheelhouse will still see them attempting to help, but you will never succeed at a task if the spirit's aid would normally cause the action to succeed, at best they'll keep you from fucking up too hard.)

Yeah, i am in favor of trying again next turn with a Social Action.

I would either go with trying again with our boss, the Daimon or Sundrop.

If we take Sundrop to another date, we could also ask for her help with the Air Investment. So we can use the rest of our dices in other actions and use Sundrop dices to complete the investment.

(Ritual failed, hostile spirit banished, new appreciation for restful sleep gained. No progress this turn.)

Yeah, as said. When we try again i would have Sundrop help and some Cleansing Incense just to be safe.

Just as I was curling up for the night I realized I missed something. Bolt from the fucking blue I forgot to prose the answer to the Divination Question. Please excuse my negligence and give me at least ten minutes.

(Clay items used to kindle Embers expand your overall Brazier. If destroyed you loose the extra capacity. You can cast spells through items that expand your Brazier. Further experimentation is needed to discover your effective range.)
So... how likely are we to straight-up explode if someone breaks our clay stuff while our expanded Brazier is full?

Clay being a powerful tool for our Brazier makes sense. According to at least some versions of the Greek myths, humans came about by Prometheus shaping them out of clay.

And in a real sense, what Camilla is doing is nothing more than molding her body, mind and soul.

That's why we need to figure out a little thing for an Adventure, and prepare accordingly.

(discovered that assigning spirits to tasks not within their wheelhouse will still see them attempting to help, but you will never succeed at a task if the spirit's aid would normally cause the action to succeed, at best they'll keep you from fucking up too hard.)
That's informative spirits are helpful but they're bound by their purposes.

This cultivation stuff is really awesome and I'm loving the theme that was chosen it's always really cool.

(Handicapped triggered! the Frailty of your mortal flesh reflects upon you spiritually as well as physically, you may only boost your Yellow Bile stat two points beyond your Black Bile stat safely. Good to know the mystical limitations beforehand.

It'll be a good long while before we do that since I think getting the skills and other foundations up first will be smart.

(Clay items used to kindle Embers expand your overall Brazier. If destroyed you loose the extra capacity. You can cast spells through items that expand your Brazier. Further experimentation is needed to discover your effective range.)

Good to konw that Clay is useful like that.

An interesting thing to look into.
