You lean back in a placating manner under the heavy stare of the two girls. A very nervous smile creeps onto your face and you can feel sweat forming on your neck as you try to make up some kind of excuse to avoid actually taking a side. Sadly, this seems to do nothing to alleviate the intense stares and you are forced to stutter out something.
"U-um... Sorry. Y-you lost me a long time ago. B-besides, I haven't even read that book series. I-I mean, I can't really say anything about it..."
This doesn't really have the desired effect as Kishi nods furiously and Evelyn humphs loudly.
"G-good, and p-please don't e-ever pick it up."
"No, you should take your time to go through them. You won't regret it!"
You sigh at the reactions and slump weakly on the table. Seems that those two can get into an awfully heated debate about their tastes in literature, meaning that if you want to be able to participate, you'll have to direct their attention elsewhere. You take a quick look around yourself to get some ideas. Since you are in the school cafeteria...
"...R-regardless, can't we talk about something else? F-for example, favorite subjects or food?"
The two girls pause for a moment to consider. You take the chance to let out a relaxing breath and think about your own favorites. With your previous experiences from school and not being acknowledged, you don't really enjoy coming here too much in the first place. As for food... Well, the meals during the last few days have been the most delicious ones in years, but that may be because you finally had someone to eat them with...
"Well, I have always liked P.E. myself, especially when we play team sports. I think we have that later today too! As for food, hmm... I like crêpes and anything with chocolate, I guess..."
You are broken from your thoughts by Evelyn, whose exclamation is soon followed by Kishi's more quiet one.
"I-I like history m-myself, and l-languages too... F-for food I t-think noodles are the b-best..."
Both of the girls are looking towards you expectantly, clearly waiting for you to add your favorites to the list.
