[x] Have Kishi cleanse, followed by Ariane.
[x] Call Kyubey to pick up the filled up seed/s.
[x] More hugs, more hugs.

If Kishi uses Amanda's and Ariane uses Elmrina's then that leaves us with one almost full seed and one full seed. We should probably check and see what seeds they have on them first.

The thing is joint hunts aren't always our seeds. Ariane's grief build up is completely on us this time and she needs to cleanse. So does Kishi. We still have a partial left. That said, I'm thinking we should do another hunt. Probably without Ariane this time.

Interesting as in "We make friends with a Witch! Yay!" Or interesting as in "Oh God, this is creepy, heeeeeeeelp I have a hugging addiction."?
Why not both? But, well, witches are former Magical girls and you have very good hugs... You probably won't be making any living friends with witches but it would have been interesting.
Wish you could make an AU omake out of that.
This.So.Much.This

I knew it! Witch-Kun was mostly harmless!
Maybe a non!canon omake at some point. But I have other side stories to write when I get off my lazy ass (in no particular order: uncle story 1; Cathy story 1; something about the shown witches and what were they like in the manner of Irma/Kaiko).

Chapter 2 - Rematch? 1

It doesn't take long for a harried-looking Evelyn to bounce out of the upper staircase. She seems delighted to see you all alive and in one piece, even if she refuses to say it out loud, "Well, you guys took long enough! I was starting to get impatient."

You smile a little at Evelyn, who has turned to look more closely at Ariane and her bloodied uniform, "Damn, you guys went through hell and back, didn't you."

"I-I suppose so," you answer her wryly and turn towards the two other Magical Girls, "but it was nothing we couldn't handle! N-now, I think we can use this new seed to cleanse. Kishi, how about you go first?"

You offer the seed to the red-haired girls, who accepts it with a shy nod of her head. She takes the grief seed from your outstretched hand and presses her darkening Soul Gem against it. All the grief in her Gem vanishes into the trinket, filling it to about a third of its volume, and she sighs in contended relief.

You take the grief seed back and turn to look at Ariane, "Y-you too, Ariane. It's pretty much my fault that you had to use so much magic here, so you can use the rest of the seed. I-it should be able to take everything you have."

She first stares hesitantly at the seed resting on your hand, before raising her gaze to look at the Soul Gem embedded to your upper chest, "Tamiko… Shouldn't you cleanse too? You… have used a lot of your magic too, right?"

You shake your head, "I-I'm good for the moment, I have the least grief-filled Gem out of us at the moment... and I don't think the seed can take all three of us."

While still appearing reluctant, Ariane nonetheless de-transforms and brings her increasingly black Soul Gem next to the seed on the palm of your hand. It is quite fascinating to watch the grief spiraling away from one trinket to another. You also note that your slight hunch about Ariane having greater reserves of magic than Kishi being probably correct if the amount inside the seed is anything to go by.

It is difficult to tell otherwise, but at least by analyzing the Gem, you think it is possible to get a rough idea of their capacity. It is useful to know for using the seeds effectively, at the very least. And exactly as you thought, the grief seed gets filled to the brim and then some as Ariane slumps against a wall in relief while the seed starts blinking aggressively. It is almost as bad as that time you used the jet witch's seed near Ariane's home…

Elmina seed charge: 3036/2000

'M-mr. Kyubey? I-I have a filled grief seed, and was wondering if you could come to pick it up?' you attempt telepathy Kyubey while you hold the increasingly aggressively blinking grief seed on your hands. There is a sinking feeling in your stomach as you realize that he doesn't answer you. He doesn't appear anywhere, nor does her talk back...

Did something happen to him? Or is he busy? Does he think you are failure? Several panicked thoughts cross your head as you attempt again, but to no avail.

"T-Tamiko, what are you doing!? Y-you need to get rid of that" Kishi shouts, sounding genuinely panicked. You look at her in surprise and stammer out your answer, "I-I'm trying to contact Mr. Kyubey but he… he isn't answering me!"

Kishi's eyes widen and he looks briefly at the grief seed on your hand. Her expression darkness considerably before she starts barking at you all, "E-everyone, we need to get out b-before the barrier spawns on top of us! T-Tamiko, grab Evelyn and b-boost away!"

Without wasting another moment, Kishi transforms and grabs the confused-looking Ariane. She is clearly about to jump to the street through the window.

What do you do?

[] Write-in.

Not going to say anything...

Well, other than this is a legit chance to get in that witch hug if you are so inclined :V.

[x] Throw the seed as far as you can.
[x] Do what Kishi said, quickly.

Kyubey: I'm halping!

The girl shudders, her eyes going suddenly vacant. You frown at the reaction and take off your hand, realizing that her physical injuries have already been healed. You don't let her dwell on it though. Without any warning, you pull the two girl into group hug with you. Kishi yelps with the sudden movement.
Something reaches out of your Soul Gem to your friends.
Ariane doesn't offer any kind of resistance and falls almost limp in your arms, only weakly hanging her hand on you. Kishi returns the gesture fully with her other arm, and you can suddenly feel your own wounds beginning to heal as her other one brushes against your stomach.

Hora from last update.

Omake: Kyubey takes a bath
Kyubey stared inquisitively to the direction of North from his position in the foam-filled tub. He had a sneaking suspicion he was supposed to be doing something important at the moment, but he just couldn't place his mind on what it was.

"Oh, looks like you've gathered some dirt here too! I'll take care of it!" the gentle, humming voice of Tomoe Mami happily cooed to his ears. The girl was insistent on brushing his fur for some reason. After patrolling through the city and getting hit with water by passing cars driving through puddles, she had gotten to her head that he needed to be taken care of.

Kyubey shook his head, forgetting his previous concerns. He just couldn't understand humans at all...

...and he firmly denied this was something he didn't actually mind.

Wait a moment... okay, this witch is tricky, but not particularly strong. Plus, we know her gimicks now. If she spawns, let's just take her down again and voila! We have another grief seed.

Dammit coobes you had one job...
Damnit other Questers. you had one joband it was Math!

the reverse is also true. It knows how we move and attack now. Ziztah also mentioned it'll shape the Barrier accordingly so that's a really big problem.

[X] Jump Boost into the air, and throw it as far away as possible.
[X] Do what Kishi said, quickly.

Anyways, Oktavia hatching had a really huge AoE effect, I doubt we can escape this.

They get stronger when they rehatch. It was around the 40s range before. I would guess it would be around the 50s or 60s now.

Lets just throw the damn thing into someone elses territory and let them deal with it.

So if we fight it again, we're fighting the new and improved witch, MKII.

@DrZiztah From a narrative standpoint, what's the reasoning behind witches getting stronger after respawning as opposed to merely adopting new tactics and barriers?

I hold that after spawning for the first time, a witch's theme and personality are more or less set. Even respawning won't ultimately give them much in the way of new stuff or intelligence to play with. This is still dependant on the witch, though, but thus not consistent enough.

However, I also want to make sure that the quest participants don't start finding the easiest to counter witches and then farm those over and over again. Hence, advanced barrier, greater powers and worse grief seed. Getting rid of a used grief seed should be the norm, not an exception

I could go more into detail, but I'm on a phone so you will have to wait a bit...

We know that Familiars can grow into Witches through killing people, so it's possible, even likely, that Witches grow stronger when they harvest people, too.

If you assume that Witches can grow stronger due to 'eating' Grief, and that the human harvesting they do is basically 'Induce Despair -> Kill -> Eat Despair -> Get Stronger', then it stands to reason that giving a Witch your Grief would make it stronger, as that's basically what it eats. Maybe even a lot stronger, as MGs probably have a lot more Grief capacity than a typical human, being potential Witches themselves.

If you overfill the Seed, then that Witch now has anything it lost in the fight back, if anything, and then some. Mechanically, it makes sense to prevent reuse, but narratively it also fits, because for a Witch, Grief = Power, and that influx of Grief might be equivalent to 10 years of uninterrupted harvesting or something.

Wait, Doesn't Kyubey have another Body to take care of the Seed?
