Profit Never Changes - A Fallout 4 Business Quest

I've been reading this, so who's The Old Man? I haven't seen anything on the fallout wiki, so I'm guessing it's some weird crossover shit?

Right now, I'm keeping him pretty close to the vest. I can tell you as Canon gets thrown more and more out the window, he'll notice.

Also, welcome to the Quest! Hope you have fun!

Right now, I'm keeping him pretty close to the vest. I can tell you as Canon gets thrown more and more out the window, he'll notice.
Eeh, I'm not sure if I'm okay with his existence or not. I came here for post-apocalyptic capitalism, not wierd meta time stuff. Perhaps it'll depend on how it's pulled off...
Also, welcome to the Quest! Hope you have fun!
I don't really participate in quests, deciding on huge plans is a bit too complicated (especially on my phone), but thanks anyways.

April 22th - 29th, 2287 - Business Actions Results
"While I was… there… I may have started using Jet. Wasn't my idea! One of the Orderlies though it'd help! But… I kinda feel like having a chem every now and again? Is it bad?"

"Well, like all drugs, they have a proper time and use." You respond rather quickly, having considered this yourself. "Using psycho during a battle, or mentats while researching isn't a bad thing. It's alright to use them in moderation, but don't try to use them when there's no practical benefit."

Joey just blinked as he processed the information. "Wow. I'm… kinda surprised. But, yeah. That makes sense."

"Surprised?"

"Well, yeah. I figured you'd be all 'Chems are evil things that only Raiders use.'Joey says sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "I never thought of it like that."

"It's always good to consider new things." You respond. "Now, having said that, I believe your usage of Jet isn't to your benefit. I believe it's an addiction. Do you really need Jet right now?"

"Well…" Joey thinks for a minute, becoming introspective. "...I guess not. I really only took it because of the circumstances, you know?"

You nod your head. "Of course. But obviously, when use becomes addiction, it's no longer beneficial. It becomes a disease, and must be treated as such."

"Y-Your right. I… I think I can do without Jet right now." You can see his mood lighten, as something seems to click. He quickly stands, and hugs you. Well, as best as he can. Hey, your Throne was never designed with hugs in mind. "Thanks for talking it out with me."

"You're welcome", you say, as you hug him back. "Just remember, I'm here for you. And I will support you, as long as you want it.

[Well, at least this went well.] Ming says, using her arms to hug Joey as well. [Though please warn me before hugging the Empress.]

"Oh.. Sorry?"

[The Empress, in her mercy, forgives you.]

You see the stars twinkle and shine above where you are.

Granted, you're not quite sure where exactly you are. You lie in a bed of sand, just gazing up at the stars. They're so beautiful. So interesting. It's a shame so few people ever stop to look at them. And you can see ribbons of colors play out across the night sky. Shimmering. Wavering. An aurora on full display.

Is that the North Star? Polaris. That's right. The North Star was called Polaris. The star people were guided by when they were lost.

You don't turn your gaze to confirm, but you can hear the roaring of the ocean waves crashing nearby. As far as you can tell, there is no one and no thing around you for miles. Nothing but you, the beach, the ocean, and the stars.

You wish you could capture this forever. Show everyone a world once untouched by nuclear fallout and the greediness of man.

You feel something in your hands. Something that wasn't there before. A paintbrush. You can paint this scene. And you have just the canvas...

-

"Whoa, that's beautiful" London says, as she looks over the newest coat of paint for your future robots. "Where did you get the idea for this?"

You just give a small, knowing smile. "In my dreams."

Johnny O'Quinn - Drunken Genius - Brewing Up New Technology

(QM's Note: This takes place after Johnny Event: Up On Bunker Hill)

80 (Drunken Genius) * 2.2 = 176.
176 (Johnny) + 50 (Xin) = 226. Brewing up New Technology Rank I Complete.
(Johnny has willingly gone into Overtime. Payment can be used in Booze or Cash. No Relationship Penalties (Willingly), No Health Penalties This Week)

You see a shirtless person suffering on a table in front of where you are.

It is a man who seems to be in his late twenties, maybe early thirties. Nearby is a coat and trifold hat, with a musket next to them. His moaning and clutching of his stomach could be anything. There's no obvious wound or marks, so it must be internal. Maybe an infection, or disease? Considering the surgical instruments next to him, it could be a tumor?

Two masked individuals in hazmat suits stand on either side of him. One of them - you cannot tell their genders - holds a bottle. They bring the bottle of beer up to the man's lips, and pour it's content down his throat.

It takes a few minutes, but soon enough the man on the table stops moaning. Whatever his problem was is not bothering him as much. In fact you can tell that the man is slowly fading into unconsciousness. Once it's obvious he isn't waking up right away, the person who administered the beer nods to the other, and they start picking up their scalpel.

You feel something in your hands. Something that wasn't there before. A bottle of Med-X in your left, and a bottle of Rad-X in your right. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And you have just the drink to deliver it.

-

"Med-X and Rad-X in beer?" Johnny looks at you, rather surprised. "Where did you get the idea for that? Was this another one of your dreams?"

"Well… yes" You replay, a little sheepish. It is a little weird getting two different ideas in back to back nights just because you had good dreams, you have to admit. Not that you're going to complain. "I know it's not exactly scientific…"

Johnny holds up a hand. "Boss, I've done things with less reason than 'dreams'. Well, mainly because I was drunk, and Molly isn't able to stop me" He thinks about it for a second. "Well, I did get enough stuff from Bunker Hill. Let me see what I can whip up."

-

(From Johnny O'Quinn's Holotape - O'Quinn Medical Beer: April 25th, 2287)

Hey Molly, do you remember that Nuka-Cola drink that one dude had?"

/Of course. He claimed that if you mix a couple of Nuka-Colas and Med-X, it produces a hell of a kick that dulls pain. At least according to him. But if he was right, wouldn't you need the entire bottle of Med-X?/

Well, for Nuka-Cola, yeah. But booze already dulls pain. Hell, they used it as a painkiller for the longest time. Which, looking back, might explain the bosses' dreams. So we can probably dilute it among multiple beers. Probably would be safe as well.

/Yes. I doubt I could sell anyone a beer that kills its drinkers./

If anyone could do it, it'd be you. Now, Rad-X should be easier. It dilutes much easier than most Chems...

(From Johnny O'Quinn's Holotape - O'Quinn Medical Beer: April 27th, 2287)

Well, after a lot of tests, I think we've got it!

/We had it right a couple tests in, Johnny./

The mix, yeah! But the taste! You didn't want to taste medicine in your beer now, do we? We want them to enjoy it before it kicks in.

/Johnny, you meant 'we don't' instead of 'You didn't'. I think we should probably call it a day. But you say Mix 10 tastes the best?/

Yeah. Smooth finish, no medical aftertaste. Works for me! Let's get this to the boss. Where is the boss?

/Trying to forget Mix 8 still. I think I can still hear heaves and screams of "Oh God why?" echoing through the halls. Let's try not reminding her about that, shall we?/

London - New Bedroom (2 AU)

(QM's Note: This takes place after Xin Industries Interlude: Only Logical and Johnny Event: Up On Bunker Hill)

/Hello, Mistress London. You do know that lying in front of glowing radiation is bad for you?/

"Immune" was all London wanted to say, as she just laid there, basking in a well earned bath of Atom's Glow. She didn't even bother to look over to Anna. "Everything is finally… finally… done. Walls are up. Floors set. Everything's moved. And I only injured myself a few times!"

That was true. She'd only smashed her fingers with the hammer six times, breaking them twice. Accidentally having the RoboBrains nail-gun her hand to the wall once. Having one of the RoboBrains slam a door into her face. Atom, why did building things hurt?

But for all the hard work of moving wood and steel, and making sure everything was aligned just right, London would take pride in the fact that she was able to divide a large unused area into 10 well spaced bedrooms, two restrooms, a large commons area, and even a decent sized shrine to her god in her room.

/Fair enough. But in a wedding gown?/

"I wanna feel pretty. And I found it in a dresser." London said, pointing towards the direction of her new wardrobe closet. Hey, she built the place, she could have a wardrobe closet if she wanted. "Did you know there is a lot of junk still cluttering the place? It'll take… like seventeen more days before we can get rid of it all!" She threw her hands up in exasperation. "There's a surprising amount of clothing for a secret military place, though. Even had a maid uniform inside one! Why would you need a maid uniform here?!"

The RoboBrain Maid paused for a moment to parse London's statement, then responded. /For the maids, obviously./

"Ha! Good one!" London looked over toward Anna. "Did you have that sense of humor from before?"

/It's a requirement of the profession./ There was a slight hint of levity in the statement. Damn, whatever Xin did was obviously a boon to Anna. Did that mean things for the other RoboBrains? London didn't know, and she didn't want to think too hard. Leave it for future London to consider. /Now, I know you probably wish to laze about, but may I ask you to guide me through the rooms?/

"You'll obviously have to carry me." London joked, lifting her arms up. Said arms were suddenly clamped onto by RoboBrain arms.

/Very well, mistress. I will carry you as you requested!/

It was that day when London learned a very valuable listen: be careful what you tell a Maid to do. Though being carried was a nice experience for a tired person, so it was alright in the end.

-

[So, what the hell is a PIP-Pad?]

"That… is a very good question." You say, looking over the device in your hand that London found in a pile of scrap. "I don't have any idea what this is."

[Maybe your dreams will tell you? Hail, the Ever-Dreaming Empress!]

"...I think we can come up with a better title for me then that… oh, hello Anna!" You look up at the maid of Xin Industries, carrying your friend on top of her dome. "Why are you carrying London?"

/She asked, Mistress Xin./ Anna replied, while London just snickered. /It is a unique request, but it's not an impossible one, given my newfound strength./

"Also, I've got the rooms done. Want to take a walk with me?" London replied, looking over to you. "Hey, that's that thing I found! Got anything on it?"

[The Empress has decided that she will wait for the Heavens to touch her with the wisdom of the ancients.] Tian Ming replied. When nobody answered right away, she sighed. [Not yet. We've never actually heard of this.]

"It can wait." You say, putting the PIP-Pad to the side. "Let's see the new bedrooms!"

--

Let it never be said that London half-assed things. She made sure everyone's room would fit them. Furthermore, there is enough room for Tian Ming to walk through, should the need arrive. Like right now, as the four of you do an inspection of the rooms

Andrew's was an absolute shrine to Elvis Presley. The amount of stuff Johnny had brought back was insane. Holotapes. Posters. Jackets. Biographies. There was even a couple of film reels, old movies that he had starred in, though there was no way to watch them without a proper projector. So, they'd probably need to raid a movie theater sometime soon. In a corner was his desk and terminal. On it were stacks and stacks of paper, with some of his drawings and writings. Plenty of advertisement ideas. Next to it was a magazine rack, with some old pre-war magazines.

Johnny was the only one around for a while, so she had gotten his input on what he wanted. He'd liked the small bar setup she'd created. Only held four people, but was good for a small gathering. On the wall was some neon signs for pre-war beer companies and taverns. Apparently Neon Pete's was working with some of the other local companies. In the middle was an empty space, where a pool table would eventually go when they could find or build one, along with all the needed equipment. Johnny is busy at his already messy desk, making some calculations while downing a bottle of beer.

Ophelia and Joey's… were functional, for now. Mainly because they didn't have too much stuff. However, they did have terminals that had been found when Xin had first gotten here, and refurbished for their use. Ophelia's would probably get more and more baseball stuff as she found it. Not sure what Joey would want, so she put a few random things in there that he may be interested in.

The others were also spares, waiting for potential employees. However, they had beds, a desk, lights, and a couple of chairs.

Admittedly, she'd gone all out with her own room. Which was only fair, as she'd help build the thing. A full walk-in closet full of Pre-War clothing. Her terminal in one corner, with all her favorite holotapes games. And a walled off section lined with lead. A safe place to worship Atom. But possibly the most important part was a second desk. Filled with holotapes and personal notes on her - heretical to some - beliefs in Atom, and how they differed from the original Church.

"So, how is your personal reformation going" You ask. You hadn't heard talk about it in a while

London just looked over to you, as she continued to walk. "Well, I'm still working through the finer details on the off time. Right now, it's just a collection of my thoughts and beliefs. I'm hoping I can eventually get them in order. At least enough to start talking with others." She scratches the back of her neck - something you'd seen her do when she's nervous "It's kind of hard for people to get past the whole bit about "Atom". The Children… haven't made it easy."

"There will indeed be problems." You agree. "But once people see your actions, they would be more likely to listen."

[Have you considered taping your notes to the Bomb at Megaton?]

London just looked at Ming like she'd suddenly grown three heads. "What?"

[Well, such an action would show a clear break from the current Church.]

"I… don't think recreating the Ninety-Five Thesis is the best of ideas, Ming." You say, cautiously. You want to help London with her work, but you don't want to start a religious civil war. Those never went well, according to the history books you've read. "But, I think London has gotten some of the basics down. And they seem solid to me, even if I'm a non-believer."

"Yeah. And that's the most important part." London answers. "I just want people to be able to worship Atom safely and sanely."

/Pardon my ignorance, but who is Atom?/

London stops, and turns towards Anna. "Atom is… well, I believe Atom to be a god. This… Hmm, this might actually take some time to explain. Do you have some free time?"

Anna checked her internal clock, before giving an answer. /I believe I do! I would love to learn more about the world! Let us retire to your room, and you can tell me all about Atom!/

"I'm afraid I'll need to head off." You respond. "I'm waiting for Johnny's next batch to taste test. Hopefully Mix 8 will be the one this time. See you shortly?"

As London and Anna affirm that, you are grateful that your employees have new spacious areas to relax during the off hours, and you don't have to house them in what were once jail cells. Though you suppose you could turn them into temporary housing, should you so desire. At the very least, it would be more acceptable.

Scavenge Team - Neon Pete's: Clear The Rubble

Normally, you don't leave the Headquarters very often. Mainly because you are spending a lot of time on various research, creating and examining robots, and reading Pre-War classical stories. However, when the Scavenge Team tells you that they have found something of importance, and most everyone is gone, you decide to look at it yourself. Besides, you needed to stretch your non-existent legs and do a little sight-seeing next door.

Granted, Andrew might be a bit jealous that he wasn't here to see what's inside. He was very interested in what there could be. Who knows what ancient Pre-War artifacts are buried, only now digged up. Why, it could be anything! Or nothing, and it was all a waste of time. But to be fair, Andrew was going after a much more promising treasure in Jamaica Plains. So he'd probably end up with a much greater haul then whatever was in Neon Pete's.

That being said, as you'd enter the room once blocked by tons of dirt, you can quickly see that this was once a storage room. Granted, a lot of it was general old-world stuff anyone could find. But to find this much of it in a single place was still quite the haul!

However, neon signs and general leftovers were usual for storage rooms. What was not expected in what was lying in the middle of the room.

[] It was a small glass furnace, and a weird looking device next to it. Was this something they used to make their neon signs when their original glass furnace broke? (You gain a small Glass Furnace and Fractional Distiller. You can make Neon Signs)

[] It was a bunch of small, spider-like robots, with blue paint and a red star. These are Liberators. Was this place controlled by the Chinese? (You gain 2d4 Liberators of random Rank. You can reverse engineer them to learn how to make them.)

[] It was a set of Holotapes: The Art of Fear. Considering they were next to a lot of bloody knives and clothes, you're not sure you want to know what went on here. (The first person to listen to it gains the Speech 75 perk, based on Terrifying Presence. There will be a sub-vote to see who would listen to it.)

[] It was… exactly what you'd seen in your dreams. (Mystery Box, gained by having 1 or more Psyker Perk Ranks. It could be anything. Would be continued in a Hang Xin Interlude)

[] It was… exactly what your employees would enjoy. (Mystery Box, gained upon having 5 or more Employees. Would be continued in an End of Week Xin Industries Interlude.)

Another chapter, nice. I like how she handled Joey's Jet problem, both mature and well reasoned.

It's by far, and i mean this in no uncertain terms by far the best paint job i could possibly think of to help with research, and it has a benefit on top of that.
Hnnngh I just remembered the Robobrains affinity for research actions as well. Goodness my imagination blurs with the possibilities that might appear.

Hnnngh I just remembered the Robobrains affinity for research actions as well. Goodness my imagination blurs with the possibilities that might appear.
Since Xin is on mandatory research duty (research and AI, more specifically. ) She should always be in range for any robots that we station on research. Since all Robobrains should eventually be stated on research, and we have more then 30 robobrains we can produce without the acquiring of more brains equalling about 90, next turn we should figure out if the +3 applies before or after the multiplier. If it's the former, then that means our focus should be on adding perception to our research rolls. As The Bonus that would be added, would far exceed the standard +25, and a more clear answer of we should never really research again. Since, we'd be actually better off not researching with Xin.

And it gets even better when you realize that the Robobrains would also provide an additional +8 to all research actions. Yeah hitting the 300's is completely feasible.

Specifically if we reprogram all robobrains to work with us. We'd have 16, if we produce all 25 robobrains not something we'll do for quite a while we'll have 41. Assuming the worst case, and all are added without any multiplier, it would mean a +11 per research per robot.

11*16=176 additional research.

Not if it adds much like a research bonus would for that *3 that would make a difference of

17*16=272

Best Case with Oath.
26*16=416

If we Manage to produce all 41 robobrains this exacerbates.

Worst case

11*41=451

Best Case
17*41=691

Best Case with Oath.
26*41=1066

Yeah, this just shows how powerful such a move is since it's at scale. And it's not just a +3 research bonus either it's a +3 psycher bonus which means all other abilities Xin or others use would be improved as well.

I suspect it's the Lone Wanderer after something weird happened during The Dark Heart of Blackhall quest. At least the dog companion would fit.

This is an incredibly unique take on a Fallout Quest. I honestly have never seen anything at all like it. Watched, with much interest seeing how things evolve.

Huh, a beer version of Med-X/morphine. We probably can sell a robot with a Microbrewery and a Microfridge to settlement guards. Doctors too, if it still works as a painkiller.

This would be more for explorers and scavengers, that regularly run into irradiated places. Maybe the technicians in Diamond City too, and anyone else that has to keep a reactor running.

But with special recipes like that, it would probably better to only sell robots with Microfridges and bottles of it, while we build a proper brewery.

Temp Vote: Preparing for the Trip.
So, it may be a couple days before I can get New Bedrooms up. So, in the meantime, I'm going to have a couple of votes on Johnny going to Bunker Hill. Since you know it's where traders are, you can have him take things to trade and sell with the traders there. As such, the first vote will be for what you're going to give to Johnny. Mainly, caps and items that Xin Industries owns. It'll be what he has on him that isn't his own (He'll have his own salary as well.). Remember that they can only hold so much.

The second, is that you know Trader Joseph Kidman is there, and he's promised to buy the Medbot I Deluxe. You can have Johnny haul them up with him, and make the exchange there, rather then him coming to you.. The Pod will be held by one of the robots, and is about 30 pounds. This may affect certain things.

Ah, we're doing Patient Medicines now

all it needs is some cocaine and it'll be historically accurate

There's always Jet. Although that's an amphetamine equivalent instead of cocaine, which, uh... Augh, I don't remember what the cocaine was supposed to be for.

The weird thing is that that seems authentic in the post-apocalyptic retro futurism the Fallout franchise is using. Just swap "Amazon" for something setting-appropriate, and you're set.

EDIT: If Xin Industries ends up using something like that for its printed ads, I will laugh.

Obviously for the Coca-Cola! (No lie. Cocaine was actually a part of the original drink!)

You know, I've always wondered why they don't have things like cocaine and weed in Fallout, instead moving towards Jet and Buffout. I'm sure it's probably to avoid issues with real-world drugs. But it's not like pot just magically disappeared. Maybe it went the ways of lions and horses?
