Great to see this is back! I like the log style, it gives Kali a lot more personality, and gives us a good look as to how she thinks when shes not talking with Weaver.

Okay, another great chapter, and it was definitely an entertaining view of the uh... Raid? Dungeon crawl? Whatever it's called in Destiny. I really like Kali. She seems to have this adorable mix of enthusiasm, cynicism, something like optimism and interest in weapons/killing stuff.

As for Queenie... I really like how Kali's reacting to her, and how Queenie is reacting to Kali. I just wonder thought what ideas this event has given Queenie...

So, can someone translate what happened to people like me who don't play the game ? I don't even remember why they went there to be honest. Gonna have to refresh my memories of the past chapters.

Black Garden had a piece of the Darkness in it. It was sapping the Traveler's Light. Vex worshipped it. You kill it, it was also a tripwire so the Darkness would know when the Traveler/Light was recovering.

AND NOW IT TALKS TO ME. WHAT THE FUCK.

Apparently however it communicates comes with emotions, so I can't even hide and resent it when it goes all '[concern|worry|Are you okay?]' because I know it's real and it means that.

It's even worse because it feels like Weaver. It feels like a part of her. Like a Ghost should be. Sometimes, I can barely tell that it's there, but it always is. Even its thoughts, its feelings feel like her. And I could never hate Weaver.

Awww. The story tags remain accurate.

KALI'S RECORD OF SHIT THAT HAPPENS WITH WEAVER
...I love the way Kali takes Notes. You can just taste the shouting and sarcasm.

[13:08:42] That's a really big ring. Very Vex, though, having a big ring in the middle of nowhere that leads to their secret pocket dimension.
Very Vex,
Much Wow,
So Secret.
So says the Great Doge.

[13:12:12] All the Vex are down, now to the gate.
Hope she was spending two of those three minutes Looting like a Good Adventurer Party or else they have been slacking.

[13:12:27] Is this what time tastes like? I think this is what time tastes like.
Fukinwut?! Is Weaver going to be forced to experience Taylor's miserable pile of sh!t called a life? Is Voldemort going to be in Ward now?

CHRONAL REFERENCE UNAVAILABLE. GEOSAT MESH UNAVAILABLE. SWITCHING TO INTERNAL CLOCKS. PLEASE NOTE INTERNAL CLOCKS MAY NOT BE ACCURATE WHEN SUBJECTED TO: HIGH GRAVITY, HIGH TEMPERATURE, HIGH LIGHTBEARERS.
Snrk. Why would High Temperture do that? I get the Gravity and Lightbearers.

"Ya'know whuh-uh-huh-ut would be a FAN-tastic IDEA?! We put time travel inside of time travel while inside a bullet and then put the bullet inside a black hole and then- then- then- uh... Put it inside a FROG! Then put it inside a gun because that is where bullets go! The gun fires projectiles!" thus they invented the reverse Stasis Grenade. Don't ask how they reversed a Stasis Grenade- It Just Works.

[13:12:30] Weaver's 'passenger' freaked out from the transfer. She says she thinks it expected a dimensional shift and not a an isolated spacetime manifold.
o_O but they have nothing in common and Shards know the difference quite well.

[concern|worry|Are you okay?]
o_O I am pretty sure that is something only the Audience sees and not actually something that can be Recorded without a extraordinary amount of pointlessly wasted Energy on a Language that could most definitely be simplified (but then again, Entities are fking stupid). That is unless Kali can see the Fourth Wall now. Can't wait to hear her Rant about that next.

It's even worse because it feels like Weaver. It feels like a part of her. Like a Ghost should be. Sometimes, I can barely tell that it's there, but it always is. Even its thoughts, its feelings feel like her. And I could never hate Weaver.

How much did it guide her, shape her into the person my Risen is now?

I think I'm afraid of the answer.
Hm... Khepri is making more lives of people close to "Taylor" worse again.

Can you freeze-dry a Vex?

ENTRY ADDED TO "KALI'S LIST OF SHIT FOR WEAVER TO TEST"
Snrk. are they organic? If so then yes.

[13:35:35] More froze— OH SHIT NEVER MIND THOSE AREN'T FROZEN.

[13:38:47] They're dead now. Fuck, I hate jumpscares.
The others were frozen. These weren't. Why weren't these frozen?

That does sound Cute.

For a moment, I thought I felt something in the energy shift before we were back on Mars,
QA thinking taking Samples is a brilliant Idea.

[16:21:13] The Axis Minds are dead. And the Heart—that stupid inkblot—is practically howling at us as it withers, the energy falling off it in waves, washing over us. For a moment, I thought I felt something in the energy shift before we were back on Mars, but my sensors are still all sorts of fucked up in this place.

I'm so glad we're leaving.

[16:25:34] We've said our goodbyes. They're going back to the Vanguard. We're going to the Reef. Thank the Great Machine.

It's time to go home.

END OF FILE
Calling it now, Weaver ain't getting back, she's going to get time-slipped back to Ye Olde Mars around the time she got her parahuman powers. That way she can suffer more, because we all know that suffering is Taylor's lot in life.

I think they cleard the Undying Mind Strike, didn't they? At first, I thought they would go directly to the Vault of Glass but well, that Strike was nice as well.

By the way, did Quaria Blade Transformed appear before or after this Strike in canon as it bears a major roll in the future for the DC and if I remember correctly, observed Guardians for some time before it was finally Taken, I think?

Like a Ghost should be.

Would be quite funny when QA suddenly appears as a Ghost and Taylor has now 2 Ghosts to take care off. The interactions would probably go the same way like Sagira's and our own Guardians Ghost, in the Garden World - Strike :D (I prefer Sagira but don't tell our Ghost. It will sulk again and won't let me talk to others for another year -_-)

This would be hard seeing as how even with the rough timelines given Quria's encounter with Oryx predates the first humans. But it is only hard considering that this is the Vex. :V

In all seriousness, I don't recall any indication that pre-Taken Quria had been observing Guardians.

Heh. Though maybe high velocities/accelerations instead of high temperatures, yeah? edit: temperatures, not lightbearers, replacing lightbearers would ruin the joke
I'VE GOT MY EYE ON YOU, PASSENGER THING.
Kali is a precious bean :sob:
[13:12:32] We're enclosed in some sort of Vex stone structure, with a very obvious hallway in front of us. It almost feels like we're underground. I'm just going to note, I did not sign up for tomb-raiding. …But if we are I am so there.
KALI IS A PRECIOUS BEAN
[15:10:55] This entire place is strange. The constants aren't constant. The further my attempts at sensing extend, the more inconsistent the readings become.

There's definitely more here than Vex and red flowers. The passenger might know more. I think it's been taking its own readings, using its own sensors. I don't know how far those extend, but it must have picked up something. Something's fascinated it, excited it. I can feel it, in the back of my mind.
hey isn't this lifted straight from a thing I wrote? I'm flattered, tbh, but I'm not sure it quite fits the voice of Kali as written. But maybe it does, idk.

poor Kali is so done with this shit

Kali is super valid omfg

Yes, lol. You had the idea for the whole Kali log thing in the first place (well, more post-action report in that version), so I figured it was only fair that some of the original snippet came through to this.

I'll probably edit it and make sure the voice is right, seeing as I posted this impulsively before I went to bed.

...man, Kali seems like such a calm little cuddlebug in public with Weaver.

Then you get her internal log, and she's cheerfully crazy.

'Oh boy! Tomb raiding!'
'Awwww, the flying hate jellyfish is cute.'
'Ooooooh, pretty eldritch location! Imma take a picture!'
'I'M WATCHING YOU OTHER BRAIN PASSENGER THING! MY RISEN! I don't care if you were technically here first! :E'
'Nyahahha, my Risen's better than the others! *smug intensifies*'

Black Garden had a piece of the Darkness in it. It was sapping the Traveler's Light.

Was that the Heart? I thought the draining was the Hive via a ritual including a fragment of the Traveler.

Edit:

Ghost: Here it is, the darkest of all the Hive's chambers.

Ghost: What is this thing?

Ghost: It's a shard of the Traveler! They were using it against the Traveler, devouring its Light. But we freed it. And our new friend said there are enemies on Venus worse than this? Great...
"At last, the Heart of the Garden has been destroyed, its stranglehold on the Traveler released. Our Light brightens. But the power of the Vex is not broken. Look into the Vault, Guardian, for it is said to hold powers the Progeny were meant to bring forth."
Ghost: We're back, on Mars. The shroud of Darkness is lifting and Light returns to the Traveller! The Speaker is calling us home.

Huh my bad. Looks like the Garden served a dual purpose against the Traveler and with Vex experimentation involving the Vault.

...you know, this also makes me suspect that it isn't so much that the Traveller is 'wounded' or something normally.

It's just that it's too busy reading all the silly logs from its Ghosts (and since it's apparently done this before, it probably has a backlog from the previous civilizations to read, too) and giggling to notice anything going on around it.

Danged lazy NEET Traveler! Quit sleeping or reading on your Space Internets and go get a job and cast Magic Missile at the Darkness!!!

There are so many amusing things to note with her internal dialogue.
KALI'S RECORD OF SHIT THAT HAPPENS WITH WEAVER
MISSION 482
LOCATION: MERIDIAN BAY, THAT FUCKING BALL OF RED DUST
Like the fact that she doesn't even care it's called Mars. Or the fact that she's very informal about recording things.
ENTRY ADDED TO "KALI'S LIST OF SHIT FOR WEAVER TO TEST"
And the fact that Taylor's min-maxing probably caused this to happen because of how often she questions things.

There's so much more, but the small little bits that lead me to infer that she has large swaths of lists dedicated to various shenanigans they've dealt with over the years make me smile.

LOCATION: MERIDIAN BAY, THAT FUCKING BALL OF RED DUST

A-fucking-greed

D1 Mars is the single most boring location.

[13:40:23] There were more hiding around the corner. A Minotaur and a pair of Harpies. I've always thought they were kinda cute. You know, for murderous robots. They're like metal jellyfish that float sideways with this red eye that holds nothing but hate at the center, complete with a few tentacles behind them.

You know, cute.

Idle-mode Harpies are the best, just floating all squibbly looking up.

Defs been spending a lot of time around Elliksni if she calls it that.

The Black Garden is the final mission of the default campaign and the story is...not great.

The net result is that you did a good thing. Maybe. Probably. It's hard to tell because you start the mission not knowing what the Black Garden is, or what it does, or why the Vex have it, or what the Vex want from it, or what it's planning, or what it's capable of.

None of these questions are answered by the end of the mission, with the addition that you also have no idea what the effects of killing it are, or even if killing it actually did anything whatsoever.

'We vaguely killed some sort of vague thing that was maybe vaguely bad in vague ways and we vaguely think the net result is vaguely good' does not make for a good concluding story.

KALI IS A PRECIOUS BEAN

Super agreed.

'We vaguely killed some sort of vague thing that was maybe vaguely bad in vague ways and we vaguely think the net result is vaguely good' does not make for a good concluding story.
It does, however, fit the life of your average Guardian to a point it is almost meta. XD

'We killed a buncha things!'
'Is that good?'
'Iunno. Things seem pretty much the same.'
'Sigh.'
'So, next job?'
'Go kill more things.'
'Will there be loot?'
'Probably.'
'Kay.'

Plus the whole Rookie Guardian/Young Wolf blundering into this high grade Vex/Darkness plotting, having no idea what is going on, and just killing everything until the confusion stops. :D

The Garden's purpose was tied in with the Vex's goal to become an immutable part of the universe. They have various groups trying to figure out how to do this. The vex on Mercury were trying to do this via the Infinite Forest, using massive amounts of simulations to brute force their way into quantifying the universe down to the smallest detail. he vex in the Vault of Glass were trying to do this by rewriting time.

The ones in the Black Garden, as far as we can tell, were following in the footsteps of Quria, who figured out that worshipping the Worm Gods while in the Ascendant Plane would give them power. The Vex, in the presence of something that they couldn't quantify, chose to worship the Black Heart in hopes that it would let them achieve their goals.

(and since it's apparently done this before, it probably has a backlog from the previous civilizations to read, too)

No, the Traveler has never created Ghosts before. It's uplifted civilizations, yeah, but the ghosts were born out of the Traveler's final act during the Cataclysm, which also pushed back the Darkness.

(Yes, I know it was a joke)

The worship was a mean to an end in Quria's case. It was just gaming the system, creating subminds with the express purpose of being religious zealots to bootstrap itself into accessing whatever powers the Darkness had. Going by what the Speaker said, which is the most we know, the goal of the Vex in the Garden is directly tied to the Vault of Glass. They either sought as speculated to make their survival an immutable law of reality, or they wanted to do exactly what was said and allow the usage of the Vex weapons constrained to the Vault in normal reality. Either case is pretty terrible considering the usage of the Oracles and Gorgons to edit Guardians out of reality is far beyond their normally shown capabilities.
