This Louise strikes me that even if she did grow into looking like her sister she'd likely go overboard in the modesty department... and it backfire on her somehow.

... I have said before that that picture of young!Karin is only canon to Overlady in the sense that poorly researched woodcuts of her sold in illicit novels have her looking like that. There is only so far that use of a lot of pink, high-heels, and lots of lace on your clothing can go towards making you look like a man.

In her Hero days, Karina was aggressively practical in her outfits. Some say she kept a spare wand in her codpiece, although most people suspect that's just a sex joke.

Heresy; she has eyes only for the Emperor.
Even throwing my personal opinions on the story off a tower, Louise does bemoan her heart's inconsistency in the chapter before the last, so saying she has eyes only for Lee is just wrong.

And double worst, that necromancer outfit caused all kinds of feelings in Louise that she really didn't want to deal with. She thought of Emperor Lee. She felt the same sort of warm fuzzy feelings about him too. And Jessica was a very handsome man and oh look, now that she had some sugar in her and was feeling a bit better, now she could feel the hot butterflies that the incubus aura caused. Why was her heart so inconsistent?

I dunno, I could actually see Karin doing exactly that... although not for the reasons most would think. Dumb as some of those would-be Heroes-in-training are/were, actually having wood down there might in fact be enough for them to buy her claim of maledom.

Blame bdun for asking about the hotpants.

I still find it a little amusing that all three were considered quite masculine at the time (well, the time that a lot of the tech and fashions in ZnT seem inspired by). Shows how far fashions can change.

I find myself wondering how many artists or publishers of those novels had unpleasant visits from the Duchess and/or her husband.

Yes at one time before modern artificial dies pink was a acceptable alternative for men who could not get their hands on or could not afford red dye which was somewhat rare and expensive. Of course even after the advent of good artificial dyes into the early twentieth century blue was the color for girls and pink was the color for boys at least in western cultures.

Oh, surely they don't perform those kinds of visits in person anymore.
I imagine once Eleanore was of a certain age she started making inquiries as to where it was they were going off to all the time, so they would have been forced to hire some very discreet people to take care of the business for them, so as to minimize the chance of Eleanore ever finding out this is a thing that is a thing.
Also, Cattleyas condition would preclude them spending any lengthy periods of time out of the country and all.

... and then Elenore went off to University...

I think it is for the best that we don't let our minds wander down that path. For I don't think it leads to anywhere Good.

Or anywhere Evil I suppose, given the subject.

I bet it leads to somewhere Neutral. It would be like them to create such a situation.
... I was actually saying I'm not gonna say them because mods frequent this thread and it would be unwise to point out one of the most... prevalent issues with that being an effective disguise.

but Neutral is dead?
Sequence of events:

  1. Good and Evil both plan to shank Neutral.
  2. Good and Evil see eachother scheming.
  3. Good and Evil shank eachother over who get's to shank Neutral.
  4. Neutral turns around and sighs at the bleeding bodies of Good and Evil.
  5. Neutral puts Good and Evil back together again.
  6. (Sometimes Neutral puts some pieces in the wrong place by accident)
