So, just some reminders about how amazingly adorakable our MC is...

"Oh, I'm here to kill some Nazis." You told him even as you tried to subtly disentangle a bit of the wreckage wrapped around you which was pressing uncomfortably into your thigh. "Do you know where I can find them? I got told they have this sort of pointy symbol."

You had felt safe enough asking that. After all the symbol emblazoned on his clock (He had a cloak! Oh, his rigging just got cooler the more you noticed about it!) was an E with two eights rather than any sort of swastika.

A glowing young woman next to him seemed to want to say something (and you approved of the all white colour scheme she had even if a little black and blood red could have livened it up), but he put his hand on her arm and she fell silent.

...

Then something clicked as you spotted a familiar symbol on the arms of a few of the meat people and you turned your gaze accusingly to the man with the rigging.

"You're Nazis, aren't you!"

You were strong, you were powerful, you were the NIGHT GIVEN FORM.

"I have seen the darkness in your hearts, the deeds that you have done!"

"Let's get dangerous!"

Darn it, if you were going to have a dramatic showdown then couldn't they have given you some time to think up a grand speech? About the only quotable thing that was coming to mind was "Blood for the Blood God!" and that wouldn't do at all....
MY TEETH ARE SPHERES.... BREATH IS DEATH :V

Best line of entire quest so far.

"You bastards scratched my paint!"

Anyway I wonder what our PRT rating will be, because like all Worm... anythings, the MC has to have one. Because we love our numbers.

I'm thinking like Brute 6 to 7~, Probably Master or Tinker 6-7~ (Depending on what they think of our SUMMON REINFORCEMENTS / GEAR) Which may or may not be a part of Shaker (?) I think with our Voice / Aura / Stuff that makes it hard for non-magical stuff to hurt Abyssals or get a lock on us.

Anyway a re-read of the quest so far suggests that we have... Crippled / Killed a good number of Unpowered Nazi's and Victor. We have Exploded into giblets both Purity and Hookwolf.

Might've gotten Allfather or he might've pulled his fake out again.

So yeah we kinda hurt the Nazi's quite a bit here. Odds are we can kill the Butcher without any side effects and hurt the Teeth. Thus establishing ourselves as Top Dogs around town. :V And use that rep to enjoy all you can eat buffets, and I wonder if Thinkers for the PHQ will cotton on to bribing us with Ships to Blow Up.

DARK-CHAN: "You think you can garner our aid with only one ship!"
PRT REP: "It's a battleship~"
DARK-CHAN: "...Yay...er *cough* An acceptable offering to one of such darkness as myself."

[X] Look around carefully for the attacker.

I am assuming that this is the Teeth, I doubt the PRT has the guts to go against someone that just made a pile of corpses and sunk ships without heavy cape backup, and if they had that the first blow wouldn't be machine gun fire. This is back in the bad old days when the Brockton bay brigade was the only hero force in the city willing to act after all, so the mooks with guns can be added to the corpse pile with basically no one that matters caring.

RIP ship spirit, I actually feel bad for you. :(
Don't think of it as consigning her to the Abyss where she'll suffer, warp, and perhaps learn to rage.

Instead think of it as giving her a cooler backstory.

Which is obviously the purpose of it. Please ignore any yummy Fuel, Metal, and Ammo which have been gotten for effectively having the Abyss scrap the souls of four hapless and innocent ships for salvage.

Best line of entire quest so far.
Thank you. It seemed appropriate at the time for our protagonist's mindset.

Anyway I wonder what our PRT rating will be, because like all Worm... anythings, the MC has to have one. Because we love our numbers.
The exact rating would depend on what got attributed to the protagonist. The most visible things are a somewhat significant Brute rating (from what damage she tanked and how strong she is) and a Mover rating (walking on water and skimming along at speed fits here). The most likely possible additions include:
  • Master (if they thought that she empowered/created Puppy),
  • Shaker (if an entire ship getting dragged down out of sight was attributed to her), or
  • Tinker (if that thought that she made/implanted the chunks of metal and rigging),
Puppy, OTOH, is likely to be put down as a Brute/Mover like the protagonist plus a Blaster rating given the booms she has been firing off.

Might've gotten Allfather or he might've pulled his fake out again.
"Do you mean that an enemy thought dead will come back, angry and swearing revenge? How cool is that!? Ahem, I mean:
Eager Puppy, there is no need to check for remains. After all Nobody Could Survive That!
Maybe he'll come back at the dark of the moon with that neat rigging of his looking even better. With more spikes and stuff maybe..?"

Surely he won't get into a bidding war with the Teeth over a contract for the Slaughterhouse Nine's assistance against the metal girl. Nobody could possibly be so foolish.

It seems that some people are still interested in this after all. Sorry to have kept people waiting for so long, but I think that the repeated lack of interest had disheartened me and somewhat killed my enthusiasm.

By the way, since I'm trying to think of things to drum up interest, does any one have ideas about what might make a good banner for this Quest?

(On the issue of drumming up interest I'm just going to tag @armorfiend and @Baughn since they asked previously about this being dead but may not have noticed the update and renewed activity.)

You say that even though he's literally a Nazi supervillain, which is sooo much bad PR,
I was kidding, if we are still around when the slaughterhouse nine show up to clean out the town I fully expect him to bid. Assuming of course we haven't massacred his rank and file si badly by then that he can't afford to of course. We should do that by the way, Merior said human oil isn't great for fixing paint jobs, but if we have enough it might let Puppy seem properly dark and intimidating.

Well, for whatever it's worth, you can count on my vote to make sure that the E88 goes down and stays down when the chance comes up.

I did notice the update; I have this thread on my watchlist because this quest is awesome. :)

Thank you for making sure though! I often don't vote in quests because I'm more interested in what the QM is going to do- usually I'll only vote if I'm trying to go against something the crowd in general is heading towards. In this case, the current front-runner seems fine by me.

[X] Look around carefully for the attacker.

We must find who would DARE hurt our wonderful Puppy! We shall expose them to the inky black darkness of our soul! Except not in a dirty way!

That... makes no sense to me at all.

The only way I can really tell that people are interested in this Quest is by seeing how many votes there or how much what discussion is going on so, even before the 'pause', I came close several times to permanently abandoning this Quest. After all, if so few people are demonstrating interest then why not go try an idea for something which might be preferred?

Some GM's really incentivize AGAINST bandwagoning votes, so some people either have 'an arugment' and vote, or they don't vote at all.

Some other quests have this sort of 1-3 people vote, and 2-3~ people bandwagon vote, and everyone else just reads and chimes in every now and then too. Because everyone's fine with that one guy's plan and his plan's gonna win anyway so why vote.

See -> Lucina PMMM quest and, X-Com/NGE/Cthulu Quest. Where outside of certain issues the player reactions are rather small. Although they've both grown more over time.

But what do you consider ACTIVE? I mean from what I've seen there are like 'four' kinds of quests.

->Low Active (5~ votes) In which one rules the quest with an iron fist via voting at all.
->Normal Active (10-15) In which one rules the quest with an iron fist via voting first with a good plan.
-> High Active (20-25~) Sometimes people actually change votes here and don't bandwagon.
-> EVERYONE GET IN HERE (50+, off the charts, it's Rihaku Quest time, you're never gonna keep up with the thread.) In which mob rule, is the rule.

:V

Anyway you're getting 10-15 votes right now. That's active imo.

Well, that's why I click 'like' on things, or make a comment that I like it. But if I'm satisfied with where the vote is going, there seems little point in voting, myself.

See -> Lucina PMMM quest
*facepalm*

I know it's totally my fault here but then again, I do like adding flavor to votes instead of just taking what is proposed.

And also, sorry, forgot to vote here. I wasn't especially attracted to a vote in particular however... I guess that's the point of not making vote options biased, but still.

I like reading the quest, but, uh...

I know very little about KanColle, which makes me feel unqualified to vote. So that's why I'm not doing so. And while I'll happily discuss the mechanics of any setting, a "soft magic" setting like KC doesn't have a lot of mechanics to discuss.

TURN - A (Not So) Safe Harbor 1.13
[X] Look around carefully for the attacker.

In the middle of the bay there was no real cover.

When you had stepped out onto the water, feeling the rocking of the waves beneath your feel as it helped sooth the ache of your bruised 'rudder', you hadn't really thought about where you were going. Instead you had let your reflexes guide you and you had moved out into middle of the bay where there was the most room to manuever.

You raised a hand to shield your face against a series of stinging impacts and brief flares of heat, narrowing your eyes as your gaze followed the stream of bullets and tracers back towards their source. It wasn't a pleasant sensation, but so long as you took the hits on your armour you could stand here all night.

"Oww, oww, oww..."

Unlike Puppy who you could make out over near the edge of the bay, leaning against the hull of some sort of yacht as she pressed her hands against her face. The destroyer wasn't as tough as you and it seemed that the spread which struck her had gotten lucky.

"Has this attacking vermin damaged you cruelly?" You asked Puppy over the radio even as you tried to judge exactly where the now sporadic bursts of bullets where coming from.

"It's just a little owie." Puppy called back, a slight sniffle in her voice, "A bit got in and I can't get it out..."

You could tell that Eager Puppy was trying to be brave about this, the first injury she had suffered in her so-far mayfly short existence (you made a note of that phrase because it was a good one), but for now you decided to trust her word and assume that it wasn't anything too bad.

"Attend to that then while I crush this irritation." You commanded confidently, taking heart from your own words, "The fools who have done this shall rue the day that they marred our paintwork!""

Puppy wouldn't just lie to you while trying to be brave, right? And it was only an eye after all.

Didn't she have two of them and her radar?

You shoved aside that thought as the machine gun opened fire again, the shots leaving a series of unpleasant grey streaks of lead on your rigging along the other side of you. You frowned at this, resisting the urge to try scrubbing the marks off, and tries to focus on the task at hand.

(Maybe those Dockworker people had a sandblaster and a little black paint you could borrow?)

Now that you did think about it tracing back the shots to find out where they were being fired from was being frustrating. Without your armaments your fire control seemed lousy, and that included calculating reverse trajectories, but these shots were being made from quite a distance away and came from different places along the Bay with each new burst...

Come to think of it didn't humans normally have problems seeing in the dark? You were standing on the water well away from the broken patches illumination along the land and while your radar wasn't helping much, bouncing back crazy echoes from the moored ships and the cargo containers rather than anything helpful.

Another spray of bullets arched down on you and you bit back a snarl of frustration. When the shooting stopped you took a deep breath, thought about matters, then realised what you were doing wrong.

You weren't being cool about this and hadn't monologued properly!

Straightening to your full height you took a deep breath then spoke at your full volume.

"Pah, what foolishness is this?" You asked, your voice lacking the tones of the Abyss but being loud enough to produce echoes from the structures lining the harbour, "Why does a pitiful thing hide from my glorious presence, running and hiding rather than properly weather my might? Who is it who does this? Who is it that oh so properly deems themselves unworthy of my ti-"

Shots pinged off of you again, interrupting your speech, but this was what you had wanted.

Your engines roared, your propellers churned the salt water, and spray was left in your wake as you headed into the oncoming fire with a arm shielding your face. The bullets hurt more this way, one hitting your chest bump in a way which made your eyes water, but you held firm as you traced your attacker back by lunging in the direction where the fire was the heaviest.

"The darkest mistress of the Abyss does not run," You screamed as the ammount of bullets doubled but did little as you weathering the head-on impacts easily, "You shall break and die like the cowardly... cowardly..."

You stumbled verbally as a suitable word failed to come to mind. Frantically scrambling for a proper insult before you ruined the cool impression you were trying for you found one then hurried blurted it ou.

"...you cowardly captain!" You yelled, a spark of hate flaring inside of your at the half formed memories that it triggered. "You're like a captain, aren't you?"

There was no more water ahead but, caught up in the moment, you followed the same reflexes which had gotten you on land before and literally jumped up with your momentum carrying you on.

"A coward who'd abandon his ship, who'd let her go down into the waters alone, after he'd set off the charges himself which sunk her." You barely felt the impact as your feet hit the ground, turning your forward charge into a run even as the words came from somewhere inside of you.

"You'd scuttle a girl who'd served you well, who'd loved you and who you'd said you'd loved, and just let her sink alone into the cold depths. Into the darkness. I don't care, I like the dark. I LOVE THE DARKNESS!"

There were flesh people here now, some of them wearing that white triangle symbol, and all who had been clustered by the water's edge. However it was the female in the centre had your attention, the first to be carrying anything resembling proper weaponry, and the calmer part of your mind tagged her as a possible ship-girl because of that.

But why was she carrying a heavy machine-gun in each hand rather than having a rigging?

(And why were there tears on your face? You had been doing something cool so why did you feel sad?)

oOo

Out of the Fog

A (Not So) Safe Harbor 1.13

oOo

You have several minor injuries and 'marred paintwork'.
Minor damage to your "rudder" and radar.

oOo

At current range further machine-gun fire will do damage.
Point blank explosion may also be harmful.

oOo

Do you want to call in fire support from Puppy?
(Risks shots hitting you. Talking to her is distracting.)

[ ] Yes.
--[ ] (Write in any details, if any, said to Puppy.)
[ ] No.

How do you try to handle this fight?
(Events may negate certain actions in whole or part.)

[ ] (Write-in a short plan).

These are the Teeth.

Alright so hmm, the main threat here is the Duel Heavy MG user. And obviously she can't have infinite ammo.

Actually can we tell how much ammo she has left? Considering she must've been firing a shit ton of bullets at us for the past minute or so... she might need to reload or get someone to feed in a new belt link, and we can use that to take advantage of her (Assume she's firing both at once instead of swapping between them.

Huh, I wonder what would happen if an Abyssal managed to kill the Butcher. Would the Butcher's personalities manifest as fairies? Can Abyssals even have fairies?

You weren't being cool about this and hadn't monologued properly!
OH NOES
NO WONDER YOU'RE GETTING SHOT UP
IF YOU HAD PROPERLY MONOLOGUED, YOU WOULD BE UNTOUCHED RIGHT NOW.
update pretty good but I don't know what/how to vote for yet. also how u have so much ammo, minigun girl? and do we really even care?

The protagonist can see how much ammunition is there, but wouldn't take that as relevant to how much the gun can fire. After all, a ship-girl would likely have more 'on board' than is seen.

Well, here is the perfect opportunity to try and find out...

Can Abyssals even have fairies?
Fnord.

IF YOU HAD PROPERLY MONOLOGUED, YOU WOULD BE UNTOUCHED RIGHT NOW.
Exactly. In the same way she'd try to turn her back on large explosions and start walking away, blaming any injuries on the fact that she didn't put on a cool (enough) pair of sunglasses. :)

Fair enough.

Anyway thinking good plan is to grab a hunk of metal to hide behind and bum rush the Butcher with it until we squish her.

Well, here is the perfect opportunity to try and find out...
Inb4 Butcher becomes that head voice that tries to be all like 'I'ma take you over mwahahaha' but MC's .... 'Darkness' is too strong and instead Butcher is devoured by the Abyss and gives MC more powers making her a super Abyssal Ship Girl.

There's then the awkward bit where people think she's the Butcher, but she's like "Eh Voices in my head making me do things, PLEASE THE POWER OF DARKNESS FLOWING THROUGH ME IS TOO GREAT FOR THAT PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A FOE TO STAND AGAINST. FWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA." *choke from laughing to long* *Followed by awkward, I totally didn't choke scene, followed by EXCUSE AND RUN AWAY TOTALLY NOT EMBARRASSED*.

Thus the world wonders, was the secret to defeating the Butcher permanently to be insane already?

I would just like to reiterate that our Abyssal is bloody hilarious. She's so adorably silly, and her utter lack of care for human life remains a breath of fresh air.

I half-wonder who she was before, but I'm not particularly bothered whether we find out or not because she's just fine the way she is.
