"Alright, Julio. The solution is obvious."

"Let him be, and follow his lead if he ends up succeeding where we failed?"

"What? No, of course not! Let's kidnap his firstborn child and hold his family hostage!"

"...That seems like a poor decision."

"I'm the pope. What's he going to do to me?"

-x-

Henrietta looked east as the emperor, her new husband, entered the room. "Is something wrong, dear?"

"...Someone made a terrible mistake."

"How do you know?"

"Call it a feeling. A very sympathetic feeling."

I have a good feeling that Joseph and Anne are chillaxing in Lutece right now while incognito. Joseph has shown that he does care for Isabella in his own awkward and callous way. He would want to be nearby when she goes into labor, and would definitely do all he can so his daughter won't end up like his wife. Especially not now that he has a magical girl as a partner (in crime).

Threatening his wife and unborne childe? Why that sounds like reason enough for issabella to take the Windland on a little trip, maybe even test the guns a little.

That was pretty obviously not a threat. Julio's just pointing out that Henry has very good reasons to want humanity to be the survivors. While Popey McPopeface and Julio might attempt to use Isabella and Henry's child as a hostage later on, proclaiming it right now is making an enemy of someone whose capabilities are unknown and who has already promised not to interfere with their plans. It'd be a massive risk for no certain gain.

Julio's pragmatically ruthless, not puppy-killingly evil

Of all the things you could have told them to keep track of-that in particular is the most silly!

Maybe they're playing His Higness' Bingo ;)

I miss my wife I miss my cute sister I miss my man cave I miss my flying superfortress Fly me closer, I want to hit them with my sword
Bring me wine Bring me coffee Bring me wine Bring me coffee Bring me a shrubbery
Let me dress by myself Let me bathe by myself Raven, give me a hug I love you too Raven Valhalla!
At first they played Raven's bingo, but that got too predictable

I Love you Henry Do you want a hug? I'll shank you Nevermore I Love you Henry
Do you want a hug? I Love you Henry Do you want a hug? I Love you Henry I'll shank you
Nevermore Do you want a hug? I Love you Henry I'll shank you You have a good heart

Did Henry just set himself up as a messiah figure? According to Church doctrine the gods sent Brimir to humanity. Now Henry reveals that he knows more than is possible for him to know, and shall render judgement on the Pope himself.

Their Pope has all the power of the Catholic Church of our own history before their decline.
The Catholic Church had power over dozens of fractured and constantly warring feudal monarchies of various military strengths and territory size.

The Church of Brimir had power over 3 out of 4 other nations in Halkeginia. Now, Henry is the Prince Regent of Gallia, Albion got absorbed by Gallia, and Tristain is about a few hours from being annexed into Germania (y'know, the 'barbaric' not-wholly-Brimir-worshipping country).
Henry isn't politically powerful enough to weather being designated a heretic.
Really?
  • The War Hero of a recent and relatively bloodless war involving four nations.
  • Again, the Prince Regent of The now largest nation in not!Europe, and with him and his wife enjoying nigh-absolute control of their noble courts.
  • Practically venerated as a living Saint by the commoners.
  • Has the fanatical loyalty of the only professional national army in current existence.
  • The patron of hundreds of fallen nobles who regained their status through service to him
  • The brother of a void mage, son-in-law of another, owed the life of yet another one (Tiffania), and is the hero of a backup void mage(Josette)
  • Owns a fuckhuge Mobile Oppression Liberation Fortress.
I dunno. I think it's safe to say he is.

I wonder what is going on with Colbert right now. I assume he has figured out he was duped and that Henry used his work for war, or more specifically the Windland to curbstomp before war could really start in full... so Im guessing he isnt pleased with henry but pleased the war was brought to a swift conclusion and has immersed himself in working on innovations derrived from the Zero.

I think Colbert is glad that he accepted. Like @Alpaleph said, Henry openly stated that he'd use his invention for war but with the intention of eventual good. Afterwards he ended a potential clusterfuck of a war involving 4 nations in a month and is rendering humanitarian aid right now.

There are few things funnier to me than some overconfident schemer waltzing into a room and getting outplayed in every way by someone who knows far more.

It happened to Henry with Albion (I laughed for a good five minutes when Joseph's plan was revealed) and now it's happened to Julio. He was all ready to sway Henry to the side of Holy Crusading, only to discover Henry already knew about the Pope's plan for the Windstone Crisis...and he disapproves.

I guess the Pope could try to excommunicate Henry...

Servant: Your Majesty, a missive from His Holiness Pope Vittorio.

Isabella: -opens letter-
-reads-
-throws letter in fireplace-
"Summon the generals. We march on Romalia immediately. The Pope has clearly lost his mind. He will be retiring."

I remember reading something (Somewhere on TV Tropes, just can't remember) about how a French king was excommunicated by the Catholic Church in his era. And the Pope received a letter back from the king that basically boiled down to saying, "No, you're excommunicated!"

It also helps that Henry never used those discoveries to harm innocent civilians.

Unless dongcopter uses Inquisitorial agents to deal with Henry.

Marcus: In the name of the Holy Founder Brimnir, I thrice judge the Excomunicate Traitoris: By actions, by associations, and by beliefs.

One thing I've been wondering is why Henry is so sure it was Joseph's plan and not the plan of Isabella-who-controls-many-assassins.
Probably because the plan started before Isabella was in a position to carry it out? Sure, she's damn good at intrigue and politics now, but she'd've needed to hatch a plot to deliver herself a continent via her husband at the age of what, fourteen? She didn't have the connections yet, and she still doesn't have the understanding of how the commoners of Albion would react.

Speaking of wedding and traps I hope to see Joseph and his ducky appear as the heroes. They sweep in with a disguised Wales, Louise and maybe Matilda and Tiffania, capture the Princess for a "ransom" and ride off into the sunset. Henry realises that Joseph has appropriated all the Void mages that he gathered and then goes "Wtf, this is not according to plan!!!!"

However, Julio Cesare who is there shoots a look with disbelief at Henry and thinks that this is all according to his keikaku.

Edit: Especially since, a little later it turns out that Joseph had bargained with Queen Marianne to save her daughter from an unhappy marriage if she would abdicate in favour of HENRY! Resulting in all three Brimiric kingdoms falling under the sway of Gallia. Incidentally Queen Marianne was swept off her feet by Joseph and decided to join him too.

Editx2: Oh yes, Karin is so very infuriated by Joseph and the whole thing and soon there are stories that if you see a strange beggar who offers wine to people to do evil things it will very soon be followed by a Wild Wind that delivers instant JUDGEMENT.

@Elvarein that sounds very plausible if it is King Drunkard pulling the strings. And not Raven preparing the biggest heart-feast so he can turn into Raven god.:drevil:

I just want to see the "You thought it was Albrecht, but it was me Joeseph" line being used when the Emperor appears during the wedding and Joseph left the Emperor tied up somewhere. Also he was in a hilariously bad disguise but only Henry recognized him.
