Shade... I've never read ZnT except for a few fanfics, but your characterization of Joesph got me so interested in him, I might even take a look at the original series sometime.

Good job - this was one of the best chapters of the story, just for the dialogue.

Ohoh, Henry got exposed. In hindsight, he should have known that Water Magic can determine whether the bones were that of a boy or girl, but he most likely assumed that Joseph wouldn't care enough and Charles would be too distraught.

Damn it, I'm beginning to like Joseph a bit too much.

Hmm So with the King Dead does that mean Void passed to Joseph?

Was experimenting with Void Magic that made him even more fucked up?

Cuz in canon Joseph was emotionally dead and was doing ANYTHING to summon a sliver of emotion, no matter what monstrosity he had to do

Honestly, he probably figured they wouldn't bother confirming. Bones of relative age and size, and realistically, you can only tell them apart past puberty.

When you brought the bones back, I had a water mage dig them up and examine them afterwards. They belonged to a child, but it was a boy. They weren't even all his, but the man was killed, so he wouldn't speak. I understood, and kept quiet. Once I am king, though-are we clear?"
That was a very touching and enlightening scene. It's also one hell of a wake-up call to Henry: he's only half as clever as he think he is.

There's also gonna be some very pointed questions on how Henry knew who Josette was and where to find her.

And while it might be a tearfully happy reunion for Josette if she chooses to come back to Gallia... The next days are going to be sad for Louise, since the people that she loves keep leaving her. (Henry's engagement, Cattleya's marriage, Henrietta taking up the throne, and now, Josette going back to her biological family). At least she still has Tiffania and Mathilda for company.

Soo, How is he going to avoid implicating himself after this and earning the emmity of Joseph brother?? Because wouldn't Josette talk to her parents or let it slip that she knew Henry alias "brother" or where she was (Valliere state)?

and in this moment canon was disrupted for good, as, until now, some parts could still come to happen.
Joseph will not murder his brother and will not help Reconquista. Without his help the civil war will not happen as it did in the OTL and we will not have the hun5 for the Void treasures.

Holy shit, Joseph has completed his transformation from jackass to a jackass with a heart!
Or maybe he is faking sympathy so he can have all his brother family in one place so as to be sure kill them all. After all real life Psychopaths have been known to fake empathy in order to get what they want. Although I do doubt that, that is the direction that Shade is going to go with this fic.

Ah, the journey to Romalia commences!

I do wonder how Shade will screw over Vittorio before that nasty manipulative little Void Mage tries to screw him over!

Don't be fooled by his appearance!

Behind that bishounen facade and his interest in helping orphans and the common-folk, lies a machiavellian mind of the darkest sort!

Beware!

Intresting:

Henry gets away with alot of shit due to Karin based training:

Be genuine as fuck, do things you believe in and believe in the things you do, and don't apologize for a god damn thing, only cowards apologies.

All your updates are good, but this was amazing. You've definitely given a lot of thought to the characters and their motivations. And it's nice to see your SI isn't as clever as he thinks.

@shadenight123, you're making me feel pampered, I hope that you take responsability and pamper me a lot more with fluffy Noblesse Oblige and not angsty Noblesse Oblige

In canon, he killed his brother without ever realizing Charles wasn't perfect, thus the self loathing eroded his sanity. Because in the end Joseph wanted to abdicate the throne and give it to Charles (the only thing of worth he could do for Charles as a big brother) only for Charles do deny him (because he had other plans on the work and didn't need Joseph's "gift"). Charles took away the one good thing Joseph though he could do for his brother, and that was the last straw.

If you want to blame anyone for the way Joseph turned out, then blame the queen, she was a bitch.

You need to SEE what Joseph means, not what he says. The guy is very smart, to the point he was playing with Reconquista, Romalia and the Elves getting resources and information from all of them, without getting burned... instantly.

And I like how he doesn't hesitate to spill the beans on Joseph's plan to Isabella. Kind of a breach of trust of someone he seems to genuinely like/respect in some ways, but considering the issue is Isabella, and he was an utter bastard to her, understandable.
