NieR Automata

Teeheehee.

Dark Id's LP just reached the mackerel.

Teeheehee.

Fun fact: I might not have a reliable source, but apparently "Aji wo Kutta" translates to "I ate a mackarel" but apparently it can be confused as something like "I experienced a flavor".

It seemed weird to me, so I thought it might be a reference to...

I.
Hear.
A.
Sound.

Of course, I'm probably full of shit.
:V

Since we're on the topic, there's an interesting double meaning to Kutta. 食った is Japanese is sort of a vulgar way to use 食べる, it's like the grosser way of saying eat. Like you'd use it if you were a slob and you ate like a pig or something. But is also has another usage that isn't so vulgar, and that's when you want to add the aspect of suffering to your eating, like 'Something ate away at me' or something, i.e. torment.
"I experienced a flavor".
So this would be more like "I was subjected to a flavor," since Aji does also mean flavor. Or more pertinent to ending K, the "Mackeral ate away at me" as a double meaning using the acidic connotations with ate away.

Japanese word puns are stupid.

I repeat, I didn't think I had a reliable source.

And of course they are not! They are fucking genius!:V

I thought it might have been '2B's character model has more polygons than the N64 could draw' but as it turns out:

Courtesy of google:
The Nintendo 64 was only capable of 150,000 polygons with texture mapping, anti aliasing and other graphical effects such as light sourcing

Courtesy of Squenix's blog (and google):
The polygon count for the PS2 was a few thousand and only one to two types of images were necessary. However, the polygon count for the PS4 is approximately 100,000 and it needs about eight types of images. You'll also need more than that if you want something more detailed…

So yes, technically speaking the N64 could have drawn 2B on screen (with only per-vertex lighting, no normal mapping / reflection, single texture and only 50k triangles for literally everything else)

I have no idea why I bothered to fact-check this

EDIT: Though this is assuming both sources were talking in triangles. Since character models are usually made from quads (it makes things easier for digital sculpting), it's possible 2B's tricount is actually twice that, which would put her beyond the N64's hopes and dreams.

We can model this ass. We have the technology.

So, I just (just, lol) played the game...and 55 hours later I finished it, A-B-C-D-E with 35/47 achievements unlocked. I just want to say that the game worth all the money I paid on (SEA) Day One. Some might say the story might has some flaws, but for me, it was pretty good, especially the twist in Route C; that scene hit me right in the fucking feels. It left me sleepless that night. But the real MVP of the game is the soundtrack. The execution of the multi-layers OSTs on each particular scenes was perfect. Each of the songs brought out the emotion, the feeling that is related to the scene it's being played, with my favourites being the Weight of the World (all versions), and Kaine Salvation.

For me, playing NieR: Automata is like riding on a roller coaster of feels.

...Huh. And less than a fourth of that was first-week sales. Not sure if that's typical or not. I vaguely recall the first week is important, but Nier:Automata just seems to keep going and going.

I suspect a lot of that is due to word of mouth from really enthusiastic people who were themselves surprised.

I know I've recorded it to several people that have never heard of it.

The Let's Play thread continues to deliver. (They just reached Romeos and Juliets)
Best quest, that. I still remember having to hold my laugh in the library when the LP I watched back then did that quest. Apparently the number of dead machines equal to the number of dead characters in the play too, according to them.

Also, Jean-Paul quest. Someone on the writing team must have hated the guy.

There was a localisation problem on steam in the South-East Asian Region and others, causing huge delays in PC releases. I had to wait a month to even see it on the steam store. Maybe other regions had similar issues causing the first week sales to actually be lower than it actually is.

honestly first week sales are much less important than they used to be, with easy access to digital copies people can wait now and get them later when they feel like it.
