My Kingdom, Forgotten (Final Fantasy/Fire Emblem Awakening Quest)

First option is a mystery box.
Second option is probably mail from a friend and/or ally from outside the kingdom, or better yet, from Sir Kain.
Third option... is probably to get a "lecture" from Bahamut. We're meeting him eventually either way, might as well finish everything else.

[X] Read a letter that was sent to you.

I hope Noctis could at least take a short break while reading the letter.
Unless the letter itself is a bringer of bad tidings then WELP THERE GOES HIS BREAK.

200 people left.........13 of which are children.....the kingdom isn't dying, its breathing its last breath.

We need to encourage population growth, any kind. Take in strays, appeal to refugees, heck try to get a couple merchants and their families to set up shop (its sad when that would increase your nation's pop size by a significant percentage).

I refuse to form an alliance with the joke your kingdom has become, you must take me for a fool.

I doubt anyone in their sane mind would agree to it, not with the target you have on your back Demon Prince.

You may be powerful, but even you will eventually succumb to the might of Plegia or Ylisse. Even Cornelia could strike you down at this point. It's a gamble I have no interest on chipping in on.

I still hold you as a dear friend, so I'll tell you this piece of advice:

Give up

I'm not saying this with ill will. I don't want you to lose your life, Noctis. You have no chance at protecting your people, if you wish to take refuge within my nation we could work something out.

Lucis is too much of a bulls-eye, please take my warning seriously.

Your friend,
Claire Farron

You eyes grew weary with each word you read, you've know Claire since you were a child. As always she was blunt, sugarcoating things wasn't her style.

She ruled the kingdom of Bodhum, a large nation spanning nearly an entire coastline. The biggest draw towards Bodhum was the world tree Yggdrasil. It was said no one suffered any illness as they lived under its beauty. The guardian Odin watched over the land of Bodhum.

She was definitely the last person you wanted to look weak towards. Asking for her help made you take a hit to your pride as a prince and as her friend. You appreciated her bluntness growing up, but to see even she had no faith, left you even more mentally taxed.

Demon Prince

The title echoed in your head. You weren't sure when you gained such a title from other nations, it only spread recently. You took no ill actions towards other nations. Is protecting you home really so evil as to brand you as a demon? You weren't sure.

You sighed as you placed the letter away.

What did you decided to do?

Time Never Stills

[X] Someone stood at the castle gates.

"My prince..." Albus interrupted as he opened the door to the library. A heavy frown laid upon his face as he made his way through the room. "A man requests your presence at the castle gates."

"Did he say who he was?" you questioned.

"No." Albus shook his head. "He is alone and requested to speak with you."

It was an odd situation, but if the man wished to speak with you there was no reason to refuse. "I'll go, Albus. Please watch over the others." you said as you made your way to the castles gates.

Rain drizzled lightly upon the castle, your footsteps crunched over the damp ground as your eyes found the man who requested your presence.

The man leaned upon one of the opened gates, his face was set in stone, his eyes watched your every move. You noticed the large sword that loomed over his back. The feathers that adorned his headband shifted, as he removed himself from the gate and walked towards you.

"Who are you?" you questioned the unknown man as he stood a small distance away from you.

His arms folded over his chest as he began to speak. "I am Caius Ballad." he responded as he continued to observe you.

A slight frown marred your face as another question slipped from your tongue."What is your business with me?"

"Your kingdom has fallen and yet you still stand tall to protect it." he began as the wind tussled his hair. "I've wandered for such a long time, my home was lost to me long ago." he uncrossed his arms as his hand lifted and pointed at you. "Why do you still fight for this crippled place? You fight against something inevitable, I want to know your resolve."

"Why do I fight?" you repeated the question. "Because this is my home." the answer slipped from you without hesitation.

"A foolish answer," A smirk adorned Caius' face as he heard your answer. " A fool you may be, I want to make a pact with you." he answered.

"A pact? For what reason?" you weren't sure exactly where the conversation was turning towards. Pacts weren't something to give lightly.

"I have no home, no purpose." Caius' face grew serious "and I am tired of wandering as a nomad." his eyes continued to look deep into yours. "I will serve you until my dying breath. I will give my all to what you would desire." He explained as his giant sword slammed in front of him. The ground shook as cracks formed along it.

"But I will not serve a weak ruler! Best me in combat and I will serve you for eternity." he stated as his blade began to glow an ominous purple.

What will you decide?

[x] Prove Caius you are worthy

All of this, if he is even a fraction of the strength of his FF 13-2 version then he will be a massive boon to this kingdom.

Edit: Also, Lightning running a kingdom, never saw that coming.

[x] Prove Caius you are worthy

I know absolutely nothing about any of the newer Final Fantasy games, I stopped playing after the first game with Lighting in it.

Caius Ballad was the big bad of FF13-2, kind of a tragic villian, also one of the more powerful final fantasy villains to exist. I doubt he has anything close to that capability here, but he should still be pretty damn capable.

[x] Prove Caius you are worthy

We really need strong protectors for our dying land. This will be a start.

If Noctis loses, he's once again reminded of how little he can actually do for his people and Caius refuses to join.
If Noctis wins, comrade GET.

Seriously, we're not in the position to be choosing allies at the moment.
And since I'm not too familiar with FF13-2, I'll go with everyone's assessment of Caius being an Expy Badass.

All or nothing then.
Demon or not, Noctis is a Prince of Lucis. He'll defend his home and its people to his dying breath.
