I kinda assume they don't use sheep for all their needs. Pots, knives, jewellery etc are difficult to fashion from ovines.
Does double duty as diplomacy and potentially opening up an economic relationship if they want more shinies for sheep.

There isn't much land to distribute- it's already been mostly given to Aristocrats. The problem with grazing land is that being a shepherd is a full time profession, and most Hoplites don't want the expense of hiring a shepherd.
I mean, I guess? The coastal plain isn't fantastic for grazing.

They'd just slaughter the sheep. Most people don't have the resources to take care of sheep like that; being a shepherd is either a full-time profession for an independent shepherd or something a landlord hires out.

That's not your land, that's Peuketii land. It's separated from your own lands by Rhyps' grazing and farm land and will have to be distributed to the cities.

Okay, is that coming up later then? There's no straightforward way for us to try and kickstart some sheepherding on Eretrian land?
What sort of price would we be looking at to take the Lucani to Eretria, let them see how awesome we are, then send them off home with some pressies, I'd assume at a discount since we can do it without urgency and at source? While also seeing if any want to stay as hired shepherds.

You could drive them home and establish some public land, but you don't have a lot of public land left; you'd have to buy it back from the Aristocrats.
The Peuketii slaughtered the warriors defending the sheep, you're talking about angry and traumatized women and children here.
