[X] Go To The Town (You are sure Death was going to nag you about it before she saw you being pathetic. Even if she is not pushing you on it now, you may as well take out all your feelings on that stupid spirit. You are not a violent person, but you feel the need to hurt something right now.) (…Something that isn't your family, anyway.)

Oof, that was really not the reunion I was hoping for.

So as it's been a bit and we're hopefully coming up on the end of the episode a catalogue of where we are on a variety of plots

- Team Unity
-- Midori still has a crush and a jealous streak
-- Miho and |||| are still fighting
-- Miho may or may not be accompanying Midori to the hospital on account of suspected concussion
-- Pallavi is squarely eyeballed by Midori with that jealous streak
-- Hotaru who Kikuko sliced apart her desk while fighting a ghost is presumably the Pink Ring to be. Kikuko does not know this. (Really the response from Midori and Kikuko when this comes out will be funny)
-- With less than full team, team more prone to injury due to relic reasons (given missing yellow ring this is going to be a thing for awhile)

- Doppelgangers
-- Very French, sibling shape shifters
-- They are reporting to someone and looking for something
-- Were going to be looking into the river area after Kikuko froze it because unusual activity meant higher odds of being in area
--- Yes this does mean they might show up in other plotlines because the city is hopping
-- Know that Kikuko isn't normal. Might not have figured out ghost though.
-- Fruit sample to be delivered to Nel

- Dragon and Cult
-- Unknown to Kikuko and cast
-- Kikuko does know they are real

- Portals
-- Kikuko is aware people are going missing
- Nel is specifically holding back for a "full" team
(Again missing yellow ring means that the group can't be at full strength)

- Giant Monsters
-- Kikuko and Midori are aware of suspect being Nel like being
-- Nel has been informed but not really focused on it
-- Midori looking into Hospital records as suspect is thought to be targeting victims from health records while disguised as nurse.

- Serial Murderer Ghost causer
-- One known victim at Kikuko's school a decade past
-- Second ghost in abandoned/accurately seen as haunted building from 20ish years previous
-- On to do list - look up murders for information
-- Also on to do list - Medium(?) To figure out ghost powers

Miscellaneous
-- Missing Yellow Ring - only Nel and Kikuko know about
-- Thefts - Nel mentioned this in passing and we have no further details

- Family
-- Possible minor frostbite on Mom
-- Kichirou talked to
-- Mourning
-- Leaving for the weekend

- Secrecy
-- One freezing river incident
-- Dragon is not yet awake.
-- Look I'm expecting this to get very long here

Hush you, it was not that bad. (And your screaming was only a third of it, I would estimate.) No need to oversell it.
Pointed glance at list of trigger warnings directly below that post
Sure : P

Anyway, I forgot to vote lol

[X] Go To The River (You need to understand how all of this happened. Maybe if you return to where this started last night, you can find some sort of enlightenment again. If not, at least it is a prettier spot to feel awful at.) (How was it only last night?)

Minor news: The next update has suffered a bad setback due to my own perfectionism and idiocy. Not the first time, and I can only hope it will be the last. But I am doing something unusual and discussing it with my Betas early, even with the draft yet incomplete, and that may help it come together better and sooner.

But in the meantime, (my apologies to @ArlequineLunaire for stealing this idea) I wanted to ask everyone an unrelated question: Which Pokemon would the characters use? I am sincerely asking, because outside of Pikachu and a couple of others which I do not even remember the names of, I know nothing about Pokemon.

Off the top of my head:

Kikuko - Froslass
Midori - Whimscott or Florges
Pallavi - Copperajah or Sandaconda?
Masami - Palafin
Miho - Houndoom?
Death - Dusknoir

I agree Kikuko would have Froslass, but I also think she'd have an Alolan Ninetails and a Glaceon. Just gives me that vibe. Death has Yveltal, Zekrom, and of course Giratina. If anyone can use legendaries, it's her.

Still need to give the rest more thought, though.

Basically, they're really powerful Pokemon, which are individuals rather than whole species like normal Pokemon, that are featured at the end of each game/movie. There are tons and tons of Pikachu out there, but only one Giratina, but it literally has Phenominal Cosmic PowersTM. Given Death's level of existential importance, she seems kinda Legendary-adjacent herself, yanno?

After thinking about it long and hard, I have determined that Kikuko doesn't have a Frostlass. But that she IS the Frostlass pulling an Astra. Because she sorta fused with her childhood Snowrunt.
I feel that she has to be accompanied by a maskless Yamask that Kikulass uses as her 'starter' Pokemon.

EDIT: readability

Legendary Pokémon, I assume.

I understand now, thank you. I agree that Death would make the most sense to have those, then.

My question is who of the artistically inclined cast gets the Smeargle
On looking it up, I would say that it has an even chance of going to Kikuko or Hotaru, though I do somewhat lean towards Hotaru given it appears to favor paint over sketching.

I am not entirely certain I understand this, but it does sound interesting.

'pulling an astra' is a fanfic reference(and an interesting one to see i the wild) for, basically, 'pokemon pretending to be a human and training pokemon'
frosslass is a ghost/ice type pokemon, based on a yukionna, that evolves from the ice-type snorunt after showing it a sunstone
yamask is a ghost pokemon whose shtick is being a human ghost and carrying a mask that supposedly looks like there living face.

I see, thank you. I have found the story in question, and it seems interesting.

I now understand why Froslass is such a unanimous pick for Kikuko, and I do like the idea of her being one herself as well.

Art - Kikuko Yukimura by ArlequineLunaire
Did my own drawing of Kikuko, since we've only got one so far:

The flecks down her hair come from me being inspired by Arctic moth feathers. Likewise, those two strands sticking up on the top of her head aren't horns, they're inspired by Japanese snow rabbit sculptures (which usually use leaves). And you can see the snowflake design I was going for with the naginata. I didn't have purple and teal handy, but I still tried to lighten her dress and sleeves as they went along

That story has led me to discover that the word "verdette" exists as a much better-sounding alternative to "greenette," and so in possibly the most arbitrary and non-critical editing spree this quest has yet seen, I have just altered all such indirect references to Midori accordingly as a result. A minor change, but still one I felt the need to state for the record; retroactive alterations like that going unreported always feel strange to me when they are not direct and simple editing fixes.

In the meantime, progress is slow, but still happening. I am not sure exactly how long this update will be when finished, nor do I feel confident in giving an estimated time of arrival yet; but at the very least it is looking like it will be a somewhat more dense one, if my execution lives up to the discussions with my betas happening around it. I also have a couple of other things (albeit much more minor) underway that may arrive sometime before then, though, so that may be something else to look forward to. And of course, there is my participation in the Sufficient Velocity Original Magical Girl Crossover Project, in which Kikuko plays a role.
