No, I figure the problem is that this person is either NOT a random bandit, but someone important or far harder to kill than we think... or both.
That or they have hidden allies, who will kill our summoner, sending us screaming back to jiggles.

People don't have direct access to the truth, and thus can overestimate our power if we lead them to, thereby disinclining them to attack us. The fact thy w are without precedent should help immensely.
