Lord of a Fief Quest [Xianxia/Western Fantasy Fusion, CK2-ish]

@ChaosCircle before I make my vote, if we do use the Devouring Path, is that going to force us to eat spirit cores and eventually going to lead to us needing to eat/hunt human cultivators, and will it affect other aspects of cultivation?

You'll never need to eat human cultivators to advance no matter what option you pick in this game. (i.e. Orcs aren't human) You'll never be forced to devour a spirit core, it'll always be an option available for you to pick. (i.e. You can stop when you want)

The downside to the Devouring Path is Corruption slowly chokes off your natural cultivation ability (i.e. At 100+ Corruption you basically can't cultivate meaningfully with your current stats) so you will need to mitigate the corruption stat by increasing your Cultivation stat or decreasing the Corruption stat.

[X] Devour the Orc's spirit core, consuming his soul and ending his cycle of reincarnation. (+30 Power, +Heaven Technique, +Devouring Path Cultivation Unlocked Permanently, +4 Corruption)
--[X] Consume it out of sight
---[X] Gain Heaven's Grace - A technique to boost your speed and reflexes.

[X] Toss the spirit core aside and burn it with the rest of the bodies. (Devouring Path Cultivation Permanently Locked. No more opportunities to devour a spirit core will be presented. Thrice offered, thrice refused.)

It sucks that this locks the thing when I would rather hunt a thing on our own time, but eating this here and now is a terrible idea; who knows where that Ork has been?

throwing it away is only reducing options, power and denying a new power. Why do people not want to grow in power, the corruption is only 4 which is little to no issue for us and can be fixed in time.

It's not that I don't want to grow in power, it's just I don't want to eat smelly orc spirit core. If we had the option to hunt a spirit deer or bird or snake then I would be all for it. However, our past options were to partially tank our economy for cores( while letting everyone know vie our spending habits), eat an Outsider which has been described as an abomination, and now this.

That is fair but I'm probably going to always have some downside to eating a core. Its not meant to be free power.

Yeah no, I'm not going to throw away the last opportunity to keep Devouring Path open due to feeling icky about our choice of meal.
An Orc or spirit beast, at the end of the day, power is power.

Is it really though? Despite the boost to our abilities, spirit core devouring is not a shortcut. The QM has stated we still need to work for our power, so we would still need to dedicate action and time to our cultivation. In addition to our cultivation, we would also need to balance our corruption which will probably have unknown effects on our diplomatic relationships. Meaning the power boost save us some actions in cultivation, but it costs/ requires additional actions in other fields.

edit: spelling.

You also get Corruption from consuming Alchemy Pills that aid Cultivation. Corruption is not inherently bad, and we're taking steps to not publicly consume the Spirit Core.

And even if Core Devouring is frowned upon, it's not taboo, otherwise Nae Clan would be ostracized and Nae Fang would've been much more hesitant about revealing they do so.

Furthermore, yes we still need to dedicate actions to Cultivating normally, Core Devouring boosts our efforts. It's not a shortcut, it's an advantage just like other forms of Cultivation Aids.

Ultimately, even if you fear balancing our actions between the consequences/benefits of Core Devouring, is it worth closing that path off to us forever?
To be clear, I'm not advocating for us to constantly rely on eating Cores in the future. I want us to be pragmatic and leave options open to us, instead of closing them.

In terms of decreasing corruption, what ways are there of doing so? I assume that alchemy is one, but what others are there?

Secondly, what down sides do these means of decreasing corruption each have? I imagine that they probably have side effects, like reducing our cultivation power, or else that they can only be used sparingly, either due to some kind of toxicity, or because of their immense cost.

If you can answer these questions, it would be really helpful and would help to determine whether it was worth it.

There are purification rituals (similar to cultivation) that can purify one's spiritual core.

Alchemy purification options can be bought but they are expensive.

That is all I have planned but I won't say I come up with something new later but if I did it'd be outside your character's ken.

1) Alchemy is a high cost option. I'm leaning toward 200 Silver Bars per point of Corruption but I may adjust that so don't expect to hold me to it. So consuming this spirit core and cleansing it after would cost you 800 silver bars.

2) Purification is low cost but can only be used once per season. (i.e. Consumes all personal actions)
