[X] Look completely confused and ask her why she thinks that. As much as your stomach feels like lead from dread, you'd like to know what gave it away.
-[X] Don't actually confirm it until you hear her reasoning.
--[X] If it's well reasoned enough, confess. If she hated you or wanted you gone, the military would already be on your asses.
[X] Save it.

Finally! As the chapter progressed I found myself steadily worrying that this will continue for a while. But it looks like things may finally start moving soon.
I am certain that has nothing to do with her lack of aging.
-Big Sister: She is actually our half-sister, from mother's first marriage. I do not know what happened to her father, but I know he is no longer there, either. Still, our big sister Bianca is always really sweet... and cold, but I think she just tries not to show how much she cares about us. She does not look like twenty-four, though... more like sixteen... and she does not like people bringing that up. At all.
Additionally, it is common knowledge that Magical Girls can only awaken until the age of seventeen.
Though given this little exchange...
"Say, children", a voice cuts into your thoughts, your parent gently pushing a strand of greyish brown hair behind her ear, "would you like to see Bianca?"

Right now, you beam at your mother. "Big sis is coming?!"
She gives you a smirk that you usually see on Rico's... that others usually see on your own face. "She doesn't know it yet."
...do we know for sure our mom is oblivious to it either? Why did she call Bianca here?

I can understand the feelings you had. Doing some Slice of Life is nice and all, but I am already stretching the limit of how much I can do with it.
It was a good way to introduce the mechanics and side characters, though

Sounds like a bad idea helping the military especially due to the shit treatment from those civilians.
If its earlier in the interlude, sure.

I don't know why dark seems to think it's a good idea. Shittiest setting where Humans are specifically going Human Nature levels of selfishness is...

Or why I didn't try advocating for leaving earlier. *Sigh* Naron all but said she wasn't an MG because of her age and then went "Oh yeah, I never actually said that. Here she's 24 but looks like she's 16 and has for a while :V"

So I'm just sitting here and going "..."

Really? Are you really trying to cause that fucking argument again?

Just let it rest old man genocide. (Yay Bleach references!)

Mentioning Human Nature as a blanket judgement is getting old as well. Is our mom a self-serving bastard? The soldiers that died fighting the spider? Our teachers? Bianca? What was their part in causing WW3?

I don't support the idea of joining the military with what we currently know of them, because it likely won't be voluntary, and they will always have our sister as a hostage to ensure cooperation at any given time. That does not lend itself too well to improving our standing.

Bianca has been in that system for a while, though, and is working with MoD, so I would like to know what our options are and if there is anyone among the brass that thinks differently. That she is not broken suggests either a deep infiltration (though her appearance would give her away rather quickly), or an existence of a faction that may tolerate magical beings even if the world at large does not.

I am not saying anything about how correct your assumptions are... but this in particular would never be the case.

You may have noticed Bianca's character sheet. This is not the full extent of her abilities you see there.
She is one of the most well-known people among the current government, and also well-liked. In a world where belief shapes magic and many people believe in your big sister, this does... things.

Those that read CW's Quest may remember Snickerdoodle. It is similar with Bianca.

...wait. ANY weapon?

Edit: The ideas don't stop coming. O_O

There is a slight chance that she just looks like that. Sometimes people are locking like they were much younger. They don´t have to be Magical Girls.

[X] Save it.

[X] Trying to explain it to her with tearful eyes, a bit crying and so on. That our big sister has sympathy with us, because she loves us and so on. AND saying that we didnt wanted to turn into Magical Girls and such stuff.

I meant that if Bianca weren't in the picture, the easiest way to ensure the twin's cooperation would be to control the other twin's well-being. In a setting where they kill or brainwash unaligned magical girls, and where those wield bullshit powers and don't shy from using them, it would only be sensible to exercise extreme caution when dealing with magic. And being controlled and threatened leaves little place for building trust and goodwill.

With Bianca up there in human hierarchy, I don't think this would be the case even without her abilities, whatever they are, but I don't know how much pull/influence she has.

I don't know what you are getting at with belief, but then again, I didn't read CW's quest either.

People would get VERY suspicious. If someone were to cover for her, then perhaps, but on her own she would not be let anywhere near such an important post. Better safe than sorry.

Would Sunlight Scepter count as well?

It would, yes. But... boosting 10 damage by 50% gives you 15 damage.

I guess I have yet to mention it here... shoot, I completely forgot this was supposed to happen later, when you actually have someone who knows about it.

Whatever... in this setting, magic is built on belief. It forms by what the majority of a race believe it to be; so when humans gained magic, it took form as they believed it to be.
And many people believed that it was the young girls that awakened great magical powers, so the Magical Girls became a reality. There are other human mages out there, but their magic is rather weak in comparison; and even then, only a small percentage is actually capable of magic simply because humankind believes that not everyone has it.

If I remember the numbers from CW's Quest correctly, one in a thousand is a mage; and from those, one in a thousand females in the right age-group is a Magical Girl.

When they re-created the government and so on they will need competent personal. I think it is possible, that she achieved her position as a minister through hard work and beeing liked by the people. And as I said maybe she just looks that way. I see at work often people who are around 25-28 but look like 16-18. Why it cant be such a case?

Remind me. Do weapon levels effect damage?

Yes, they do.

The twins actually know about that one. First of all, Bianca was of age when she started working... people are not that suspicious, especially because the UES still had most of its data intact or recovered at the time. They knew she was nineteen.
Then she started outperforming everyone else with pure stubborness and diligence, to the point where she rose up simply by being the most competent person around.

Basically, Bianca was the right person at the right time. Or so to speak.

Yup. That confirms two things. We can make our older sister completely broken.

And her ability to use Magical Girl's weapons is going to bite SOMEONE in the ass.
