Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

If you haven't seen it already, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is great. It's technically subtext-only, but it is not subtle about saying-without-saying that the female leads are raising their adopted daughter together. There's a spin-off manga called Kanna's Daily Life that I also highly recommend if you've got the budget for it.

Also, this is more of a cautious recommendation, but Houseki No Kuni is fairly interesting and has a great pair of central characters in Phos and Cinnabar, but I've only seen the first few episodes and have yet to get around to finishing it off, but I've heard it takes kind of a weird direction with things later on. I don't know exactly what was meant by that, so of you do check it out, be wary of that. Still, what I did see I quite liked.

I loved Houseki no Kuni (though it aired on Amazon rather than Crunchyroll) but I will warn that, despite what the OP implies, Cinnabar isn't really involved much. It also technically doesn't qualify for this thread since the gems are genderless; they look fairly feminine and their VOs are all women but they tend to use neutral or masculine pronouns in the Japanese, and the official translations use (I think exclusively) neutral pronouns for them.

It's still a fantastic show and definitely in my top 2 or 3 anime from last year.

It was mentioned back in the fanfiction and quest thread but I marathoned Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight, both the manga tie-ins and the anime, literally yesterday, so I feel the need to recommend it here.

The relationships are fairly ambiguous, but there are really strong yuri undertones to them, and the director worked on Yurikuma Arashi under Ikuhara so, there's a chance that the subtext might become text.

Even if not, it's still a fantastic show - the animation is solid, I enjoy the music, and the characters and their interactions are interesting.

Also, it has Tendo Maya in it, and that should be a justification in and of itself, because Tendo Maya is an amazing character.

Not so strong on the Yuri, but Girls And Panzer is fun if you haven't already seen that.
Seen it. It was fairly entertaining, not terribly substantial.

Recs don't have to be yuri (the last anime I watched was Ancient Magus' Bride) but given the thread I figured they probably would be.

Princess Principal and Izetta The Last Witch have been discussed before, but I would definitely recommend those as well.
Seen Izetta, really enjoyed it. Might check out Princess Principal, since the premise seems like it would have some action.

You really should watch Chio's Road to School then.
*reads description* ...maybe? Doesn't really seem like my kind of thing.

Also, subtext my ass. Tohru flat out declares she wants to have sex with Kobayashi. Kobayashi just hasn't admitted that she reciprocates yet.

Oh yeah, there is no subtext with Tohru's feelings. The subtext, I think, lies in the relationship between Kanna and Kobayashi/Tohru. It implies pretty heavily that Kanna is sees herself as being raised by her two moms, or at least her older sister and her older sister's wife, but exactly how much Kanna values the two exists in some never quite spoken place between "very good older friends" and "the only real family she's ever known".

Hm... why can't I think of other stories with two cool moms raising their kid together?

Garnet doesn't count.

Finished book two ofI've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed out my Level.

Less yuri bits than book one, but this book introduces the Demon Queen, who a) is kind of submissive b) wants a 'Onee-sama' to obey and c) picks our hero. *lol*

The Mage & Demon Queen webcomic launched after getting featured

Mage & Demon Queen

A much smoother beginning this time around, addresses a few of the concerns people had.

Thanks for the heads up on this; glad it's finally back. I'm a little disappointed that the omake were all deleted along with the original chapters but I suppose the improved start to the story is a worthwhile trade-off.

hows the book compare to the manga?

When i looked through the manga there wasn't really much in the way of yuri.

iirc, the original site/page is still up and has all its old content.

The old page is still there for the time being but most of the posts are gone and the most recent one says the whole thing will be deleted soon. I can understand why in terms of not spoiling the story for the new audience, though, as I assume it will be substantial now that the comic is featured.

Since it hasn't been rec'd here yet, I'm going to toss in Lovespell. It's a webcomic that's a story of a fantasy world with RPG mechanics where an alchemist meets up with a knight and the two fall in love. It's really slow burn but still incredibly good with fluid pacing, and a lot of incredibly endearing and likable characters. The art is quite good too, both in the earlier black and white sketches and the more detailed colored panels later on. It's a quick, breezy read so far at around 120 pages, and despite the incredibly erratic update schedule and semi-frequent hiatuses it's definitely worth a looksee.

Whoah, what issue is that now? It's been a while since I've read the Runaways. Might be time to buy this again.

This is really sweet so far. Agreed about the pacing--events move along briskly but the relationship feels natural in its development. Shame about the update schedule but I suppose that's what tumblr notifications are for. :p Thanks for the rec!

Pleasantly surprised by the about page saying that Maria is demi-romantic ace. I'd say it's always nice to see that kind of representation, especially in a love story, but it's hard to think of (m)any other examples I've seen/read.
