Taking another sip of your coffee, the bitter drink might as well have no taste at the moment. Getting of the phone, Fu walks over to the table, slamming her hand down on the wood surface.
"I thought I told you not to go out at night!" she hisses.
You stare at the mug in your hands, not meeting her gaze. "I'm sorry."
Silence for several moments, before you feel a pair of arms pull you into an embrace.
"I'm sorry, too," she replies, her tone softening. "This must have been a rough night for you as well. Do you…" Fu pulls away from the embrace, taking in your ruined tracksuit. "Do you want to talk about with me, or wait until the police get here?"
Taking a deep breath, you raise your head, meeting Fu's gaze. Her eyes are red, the skin around them swollen. Your heart plummeting at the thought of lying to her, you decide, in the spur of the moment, to tell her exactly what happened.
Whether or not she believed you could be figured out afterwards.
"I was attacked," you begin evenly. "by a pack of monstrous wolves."
Fu's tone turns harsh. "Now is not the time for jokes, Yue."
"Itsuki has been kidnapped, Fu. You know me, Fu. I wouldn't joke about something this serious."
Fu takes a deep breath, likely calming her nerves. "Continue."
"You know I'm good with a sword, and I happened to have one on me at the time of the attack. I was able to kill most of the wolves, vile creatures shadowed in a… dark aura of sorts. But one outlasted me… and when it saw Itsuki it went for her and… ran off."
You clench your teeth in frustration at your failure to protect your new family. These people had given you a home and this is how you repay them.
"These creatures… when you killed them did you happen to see an octahedron emerge from their bodies? Did you destroy it to kill them?"
You cock an eyebrow. "A what?"
"An octahedron. Two pyramids connected at their base." Fu explains hurriedly.
"Ah, no. I don't remember seeing anything of the sort," you admit, staring at Fu oddly.
Rising from her chair, Fu asks one more question. "And do you believe these creatures were supernatural?"
You nod. "I do."
Taking out her cellphone, Fu dials a number. "I have to make a call. For the love of the Shinju-sama, don't wander off! I'll be back in a few minutes." Fu commands as she walks out of the kitchen.
Left alone, you finish the last of your coffee. Wondering why she asked about octahedrons, you hear your phone ping, indicating a new email message.
From: Itsuki
Subject: Come to the old temple
If you ever want to see Itsuki alive again, come to the derelict Koushou-ji Temple at midnight. Come alone, or she dies.
Your grip on your phone tightens as you read the email. So her captor is intelligent after all.
"Looks like there truly is a mastermind behind those black beasts," you remark dryly to yourself.
Your gaze shifts to the door of the kitchen, behind which Fu is talking to some unknown party. This concerns Fu greatly, but… you've already failed the Inubozaki Sisters once. It's your duty to fix things alone.
Or is it?
[ ] Tell Fu about the email, and take her with you to the temple.
-[ ] Keep her hidden.
-[ ] Go in guns blazing.
[ ] Don't tell Fu about the email. Go alone.
