I'm not dead. Not yet at least. Between catching the flu and writing an ungodly amount of essays, this took a bit of a backseat. I'm hoping to rev it back up now though!
----------------------------------------------------
A dark emptiness washes over you as you float in an endless void. Blinking, you check your body over for wounds, and swiftly find that your wounds are not only missing, but that you're back in your original form as a Servant.
"I must be dead..." you muse to yourself. You struggle to remember just how you died. There was Saber and she... no, that's not it.
It all comes rushing back.
Clenching your fists, guilt seeps into your mind. "Itsuki..."
You failed her. It's your fault she's dead.
"But she's not dead yet," a feminine voice announces, causing you to jump... well, as much as you can in an endless void.
A blinding light scalds your eyes. Shielding them with your hands, you can make out the form of a young woman.
"And neither are you, 'Ayase Yue.' Your abilities are great and your will is indomitable. Hmm," You hear a giggle. "Yes, I think you'll do nicely."
You scowl. "If you know so much about me, I'm certain you've noticed I hate being a puppet."
More giggling. "I've glimpsed a few memories of your world. You musn't worry, wraith, I bear you no ill will. On the contrary, I can imbue you with the power to save Itsuki."
You cock an eyebrow, before slamming it shut again when the light sears your vision. "And what's in it for you?"
"My friends Apollo and Demeter have a vested interest in Itsuki. It would be a great loss for her to die this far into preparations. And, of course, it's also the right thing to do. To save her, that is," the figure concludes.
You weigh your options and, upon finding no real reason to refuse (and the fact that you're dead as a doornail if you refuse), you find yourself nodding.
"Fine, I agree to your terms."
"Then the pact is sealed. Normally it isn't this roundabout, but you're a special case, Ayase-san. Now then..."
You feel a warmth run through your body, empowering it with mana. You'd wager that this is what a proper Master/Servant contract feels like, but you only have your experiences with Caster to compare with.
"By the power invested in me by the Shinju, I bestow my powers upon you, Ayase Yue. I proclaim thee, with my power as the Last Pythia, my Yuusha. Go now, and rescue your friend."
The light fades from your vision, and you slowly return to the land of the living.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Sensation returns. And with it, awareness of the painful asphalt chunks digging into your face.
Groaning, you pick yourself up off the ground. Your clothes are a mess, but it looks like that woman you saw was real.
How else would your body be completely healed.
Well, not completely. Black and blue bruises mar the spots where beast claws had rent skin, but you're certain they'll heal over time.
The sun is just beginning to rise over the mountains. Pulling out your cellphone, miraculously still in one piece, you check the time.
6:21 A.M.
Inubozaki Fu: 6 missed calls, 21 unread messages.
Dread fills you. How are you going to explain this to Fu.
Sliding across the screen, you send a call to Fu's phone.
Midway through the first ring, the call is answered.
"Yue! Where are you? Where's Itsuki?!" Fu's frantic voice resounds from the speaker.
What do you tell Fu?
[ ] The truth.
[ ] Lie.
- [ ] What do you say instead?
