Turn 9 Results:

[X] Sammy's in town: From what you have seen on the internet, SAMs are what people use nowadays as AA. This hasn't worked on abyssal fighters, but maybe you could figure out a workaround because you are an Abyssal yourself? Cost: 15 material Reward: Any hostile aircraft has to make a saving roll when trying to fly around a SAM. If this fails, it is auto killed. Chance for success 65%
-Any aid? (Civilian computers will not help you here.)
d100=87
It seems that the Abyssals had planned for Modern Radar and Missile tech by scrambling their long range radar signatures with an internal Jammer. This would explain why the long range detection and missile systems wouldn't work. However, by introducing an abyssal made counter scrambler, you managed to completely nullified any radar advantage the Abyssals have. This went very well with the long range radar project, and helped it complete on time.
Reward: Working SAMs (Surface to Air missile) system.

[X] Base Looting: Send a team of Gremlins into the base you found to uncover any blueprints. Reward: ??? Chance for success ??? (Middle-High)
- Pathfinders
-- Motor Pool
d100+20=77
While this wasn't as mind blowing as the earlier places that you investigated before, it still had some good parts. Namely, some working tool kits and some lost souls that were easily Gremlin-fied into Mechanics.
Reward: modern repair machines, 5 Gremlin Mechanics (Allows auto regeneration and Ship girl repair)

[X] Going Full Retro: While you know that jets are awesome, it stand for a fact that if you summon any carriers, they won't be able to field such things. So, you have to make suckier planes that they can use. It hurts, but it has to be done. Reward: Create Planes that can be used on Carriers (or any vehicle that can field planes.) Chance for success 70%
d100=83
This was easy to make, with all the success you had with the jets. Now any Carriers can field Aircraft you made form their time period.
Reward: WW2-era naval air force

Diplomacy:
SKIPPED

Stewardship:

[X] My new magic materials: Use your new found aptitude in manipulation atoms to create some raw materials. Reward: +100 materials. Chance of success 100% (30% to double rewards)
d100+15= 38
This could have gone better. You may have gotten what you wanted, but nothing else came out of it.
Reward: +100 Material

[X] Putting the fine in refinery: Create some refineries at the resource deposits that are on the islands. Cost: 50 Material per refinery (Remember, you can put 2 per deposit.) Chance for success 75%
- 4 Refineries
d100+15= 43
This also could have gone better. You managed to get them up, but there seemed to be some sloppiness in the execution. Oh well, at least it went up!
Reward: 4 Refineries (Adding in the one you have right now, that means 175 Material per turn.)

Intrigue:

[X] Truly tuning in: Listen to US military frequencies to try and find out any operations. Reward: Know what the military is doing in the next turn. Chance for success 75%
d100= 19
You didn't manage to find anything useful, just some confirmations about supplies. Luckily, you didn't get caught.
Reward: Nothing.

[X] The power of the internet: Go on the internet and try and find news about anything important. Reward: Civilian News tells you something useful. Chance for success 90%
d100= 37
You managed to find out that some wannabe was trying to drum up some fame by going over to your island. You managed to hide everything in time, so everybody didn't panic.
Reward: Animosity retained.

Piety:

[X] The Fourth Draft: Call some spirits out from the void to help with you out. Reward 1d20 of Gremlins. Chance for Success 80%
-What kind of Gremlin? General
-- Use Memorial? Yes
d100+20= 118 (Greater Critical Success!)
d100+ 20*2= 238
The souls in the memorial were positively jumping at the chance to serve again. They were experienced, they were powerful, they were... everywhere! How are you going to fit everyone in?
Reward: 2 wings of Pilots, 1 Corps of General Army, 1 Special Ops Team (You can choose between Navy Seals, Rangers, or Delta Force. Perks for specific teams will be explained in a later post.)

[X] Soul sensor quality: Attempt to increase the fine tuning of your soul sensor to recruit higher quality spirits. Reward: Gain 50 XP in Soul sensing skill. Chance for success 55% (Chance to double rewards 30%)
d100=48
This is much harder than before, probably due to your earlier success. You did manage to get some good practice in, and you feel more confident about your skills.
Reward: +50 EXP to soul sensing (100/250)

[X] Omnimancy training: Try and advance your control and knowledge of Atomic manipulation. Reward: +50 XP to Atomic manipulation skill. Chance of success 55% (Chance to double rewards 30%)
d100=98 ( Greater Critical Success!)
You have so many ideas with this! You could create almost anything that you want, and have virtually no downsides to it! you even managed to make a new metal that can reflect sonic waves. You'll call it... Vibranium.
Reward: +150 EXP to Atomic manipulation (Ranked up to Grand master! You can now fashion the bodies for the souls of Heavy Cruisers, Escort Carriers and attack subs. 0/500 EXP to High Master.) Vibranium created.

Learning:

[X] Strange rotor contraptions: Take a look at those strange vehicles your pathfinders found when exploring the island. Reward: Find out what the contraptions are. Chance for success 70%
d100+30= 89
So, apparently these are called Helicopters. They can be used for many things, which makes them very useful. Perhaps you could keep some on base?
Reward: Able to build Helicopters (1 squadron will cost 8 Material)

[X] Blueprint diving: Go on the internet to try and find some usable blueprints for later use. Reward: Possible new ships to produce. Chance for Success 95% (55% to find multiple.)
d100+30= 130 (PERFECT ROLL!!! AN: WHAT THE HELL)
The internet is a wonderful thing. So, you found some pretty powerful things, like some Fletcher class destroyers, Atlanta class Cruisers, and others. what really made you stand up in shock was that Pearl found a Manila envelope on the beach. Smart girl she is, she brought it to you. You weren't expecting much, maybe some work documents, some tax forms possibly. Not a blueprint for a YAMATO CLASS BATTLESHIP! How did this even get here? Who, or what put it here? Some historian? A museum? What?
Reward: Atlanta class blueprint, Fletcher class blueprint, Brooklyn blueprint, Alaska class blueprint, Gearing class blueprint, Yamato Class Blueprint

[X] Radar non-malfunction: Try and make your own land-based radars that can detect abyssals from a large distance away. Reward: Long range Radars to detect attacks, +10 to RER roll (Will not prevent Critical Failure). Chance for success 55%
d100+25= 59
This isn't easy to design with the counter jammer, but when you finally finish it it's rather easy to build.
Reward: Long range Radars to detect attacks +10 to RER roll (Starts taking effect next turn.)

Personal:

[X] Humans... why are you so hard to understand!?: Arizona might have been very cute in that moment with Pearl, but besides talking and moving her arms, she can't really do anything. This must change. Reward: Arizona can act like a human. Chance for success 100%
d100=29
Arizona finds it a bit hard at first, but once she gets a handle of walking she finds it rather easy to do the other things.
Reward: Arizona can act like a human reliably (And participate in battle if need be.)

21 units of food remaining

175 units of food remaining

(AN: I decided to do next turn's RER roll early and guess what I got...)
RER= 3 (Critical Failure!)

I knew that was going to happen.

Well it was fun while it lasted I hope your next quest will be just as fun but not as short.

Oh I thought that the RER were meant for specifically to see if we ourselves were attacked or not and according to what you said about what the rolls meant that we would be fighting a fleet or more of battleships, the Empress herself, taking a nuke to the face or all of the above at the same time.

Not that I mind with not getting curbed stomped into paste. That's just what I thought was going to happened due to what you said earlier about the rolls.

Nope. A low roll will involve an attack that will affect you. Not only direct attacks, but attacks on allies (Potential or Cemented) can be considered.

Question about the barracks. If I remember correctly at the start of this quest we started out with 5 spaces, Then on turn 6 we built another barracks which should have given us 5 more spaces. So unless I'm incorrect or I missed something shouldn't we have 10 barrack spaces available?

Won't fix the surplus but it will make it so we won't need to build more one more barracks to deal with the surplus.

It will make much more sense when the rumor mill comes out.
Oh, so it is an engagement that occurred, instead of something that would provide a reduction of our ability to gear up, like a competing drain on our ability to acquire souls to bind to our service, something that would result in our fog evaporating early, or one of the neighboring islands being colonized by another power. Speaking of colonies, when are we going to look at expanding outside of a single island?

When you make contact, one of the diplomatic terms will be to colonize the islands without politicians kicking up a fuss about it.

Contact? I thought that the other Islands would currently be either uninhabited, or have a token force stationed akin to the amount stationed in Antarctica, due to the fog showing that an abyssal is forming would be cause for evacuation of all civilian, and likely military personal from the island to avoid unnecessary casualties. Without any opposing occupation, I see no reason that we would be unable to colonize further islands.

The US might object if a foreign power decides to annex one of their states.

Rumor Mill 3
Rumor Mill 3:

Amazing victory in Atlantic: The Royal Navy of the UK pulled off a stunning victory against a very powerful invasion force, spearheaded by a Ru-Class Battleship. HMS Belfast was an instrument part of this operation by taking out some destroyer flotillas that would have crippled the defense force. This will hopefully set the tone for the next year of battling.

US Navy sets out: Emboldened by the Success in the Atlantic, the US Navy has decided to pull out all the stops and make a large Expedition to the Pacific Islands, Specifically Japan and Australia. Should this succeed Japan will be able to make large strikes against the Abyssals without fear of overextending supplies. Fleet admiral Williams was quoted by saying "We believe that this is the best chance to take the fight to the abyssals. If we can pull this off, we could very well have a chance to destroy the other Princesses in the Pacific, and concentrate on the other Oceans." We can only hope this succeeds.

(Long Range Radars have spotted a Large Abyssal Fleet heading directly towards the convoy, lead by a Re-Class Battleship. They will meet head on in 3 turns.)

(AN: Use this knowledge well.)

I think its safe to say that we're probably going to end up as a territory seeing that Hawaii has been reduced to a military base with the one's manning the base maybe or maybe not counting as humans.

WMG Omake 1: Despatch's Visit
Well, seeing as the topic of Hawai'is status in the union has been brought up, have an Omake I've been stewing over for a bit.

Despatch's Visit

Despatch stood in front of the damaged gate of a green painted iron fence. Though most of the city was little more than a ruin, this particular area managed to only receive marginal damage. To everyone else, what Despatch was staring at seemed to be nothing of consequence. After all, what was so important about a partially damaged building?

Yet to Despatch, she knew there was more to what she saw beyond that gate. For it was no mere building, but a palace. A royal palace built for the kingdom it used to represent. A royal palace she felt compelled to come to ever since she opened her eyes.

Taking a deep breath, Despatch slowly walked down the road towards the steps of the building, passing by damaged asphalt and broken trees. Part of her didn't want to be here, to simply walk away and leave this all in the past. Yet Despatch continued, her legs carrying her up the steps to the splintered front doors. Standing there for a few seconds to summon whatever courage she could, the shipgirl stepped over the debris and into the building.

The interior was illuminated by whatever sunlight could peer through the broken windows and holes that could allow it. Despite the damage, the lobby still spoke volumes of the opulence this palace held. Magnificent carpets leading up to a broken stairway, exotic hardwoods holding up the building despite cracks and breakage. And flanking Despatch on the walls were paintings. Paintings of people. Of royalty. Of kings and queens that once ruled this island. Of all these islands.

Despatch could only stare, feeling their gaze upon her. If those paintings could speak, what would they say to her? Would they know who she was? What she did?
Turning her eyes downward, Despatch stepped her way out of the lobby. Taking the moment to look at her surroundings, the damage was barely noticeable in the room that she entered. She stared at the thrones at the far end of the room, elevated on a small platform. As she moved closer, Despatch's gaze turned towards the crowns for the King and Queen, kept safe inside a plastic box.

Gently brushing off the dust that had gathered on the box, Despatch again turned her eyes to the ground. She felt a pit forming in her stomach, letting her memories of the past fill her head. Back when she wasn't Despatch. When she wasn't an old ship that had served for so long for the United States. Back to a single day at port, where she watched the marines she carried slowly depart from the harbor she was moored and off towards this very palace.

Long ago, she delivered this kingdom to her country. Now, it seems that fate has conspired that she would deliver it once again. And if she would have to take this knowledge to the bottom of the sea, then so be it.

Would Hawaii actually still count as a state if it's population was in the hundreds instead of the thousands? At the point where there is noone to vote a person into office, I would suspect that Hawaii would be downgraded to a territory.
There isn't really a provision for downgrading a state. Hawaii's seats might be empty until the war ends but it's still a state.
Regardless, Hawaii is US property and the US government will be very unhappy if someone tries to swipe it in the middle of a war.

No, only the national parks and memorials could be considered US property, and even then it likely is subject to laws covering Abandonment, dereliction to be more specific, leaving the Hawaiian islands as derelict, and thereby res nullius, or in this case Terra nullius.

Well, if we really want to be bold, we could declare restoration of Hawaiian sovereignty. Then again, we don't exactly have any claims to the islands. Or really any population to speak of. If anything, lets keep the islands safe until we can return back to the union.

I didn't mean US property in the sense of the US national government directly owning. I meant US property as in being part of the country. There's no abandonment or dereliction going on here. US is at war with Abyssals and the Abyssals kicked them off the islands. The US is still going to consider Hawaii as part of the US.
