Hmm, maybe the Leeward Hawaiian Islands, and to be more specific Midway Atoll?
Oh, so it is an engagement that occurred, instead of something that would provide a reduction of our ability to gear up, like a competing drain on our ability to acquire souls to bind to our service, something that would result in our fog evaporating early, or one of the neighboring islands being colonized by another power. Speaking of colonies, when are we going to look at expanding outside of a single island?
Contact? I thought that the other Islands would currently be either uninhabited, or have a token force stationed akin to the amount stationed in Antarctica, due to the fog showing that an abyssal is forming would be cause for evacuation of all civilian, and likely military personal from the island to avoid unnecessary casualties. Without any opposing occupation, I see no reason that we would be unable to colonize further islands. When you make contact, one of the diplomatic terms will be to colonize the islands without politicians kicking up a fuss about it.
The US might object if a foreign power decides to annex one of their states.Contact? Would Hawaii actually still count as a state if it's population was in the hundreds instead of the thousands? At the point where there is noone to vote a person into office, I would suspect that Hawaii would be downgraded to a territory. The US might object if a foreign power decides to annex one of their states.
There isn't really a provision for downgrading a state. Hawaii's seats might be empty until the war ends but it's still a state.Would Hawaii actually still count as a state if it's population was in the hundreds instead of the thousands? No, only the national parks and memorials could be considered US property, and even then it likely is subject to laws covering Abandonment, dereliction to be more specific, leaving the Hawaiian islands as derelict, and thereby res nullius, or in this case Terra nullius. There isn't really a provision for downgrading a state. Regardless, Hawaii is US property and the US government will be very unhappy if someone tries to swipe it in the middle of a war.
I didn't mean US property in the sense of the US national government directly owning. I meant US property as in being part of the country. There's no abandonment or dereliction going on here. US is at war with Abyssals and the Abyssals kicked them off the islands.
