Industrialization Quest

We could actually do both the letter and the audit prep - it would require using the free action to do the audit prep rather than forgework and the intrigue action to send the letter rather than investigating Varn. Would you (or anyone else) be interested in such a plan?

For example,

[ ] Plan Compromise
-[ ][Martial] Exercise with Sasha!
-[ ][Stewardship] Your actual job.
-[ ][Learning] Cast Iron Plow outline.
-[ ][Diplomacy] Nearby villages.
-[ ][Intrigue] Send an apology.
-[ ][Piety] Signs of evil.
-[ ][Personal] Learn to cook.
-[ ][Free] Audit Preparation.

There's only so many intrigue actions that can be done, so we can't do all three. However, the Audit should probably be done before taxes are due & the Apology is explicitly time sensitive.
Apology is also risky if we get caught and with a guy here who is looking to get us we probably want to find out more about why first.

What, are you not allowed to send mail to your family? The reason you want to do it secretly is because it's embarrassing and sending it openly will remind people of scandal and undermine your family's position in power politics even more than you already have. It's not illegal or anything. And it's not like he's searching random merchants' papers either, or at least one would hope not.

Except if we buy some farms we can deploy the plows there and then use that interest to get others to buy them from us. We also have more possible actions right now to get bonus progression on the . For the letter I would like to do it next turn as there is one intrigue for doing our job and one to figure out why the guy hates us.

Waiting on the letter is incredibly shortsighted. Take a look at how it's been displayed as an action over the past few turns.

[ ] Send an apology. You think you can get a letter delivered to your family if you are appropriately circumspect and pay the right person. It would be bad form to openly send them a letter, but you can send a secret one. Traveling merchants do this sort of thing for 'little considerations' all the time. Apologizing profusely for the whole mess won't put you back in their good graces immediately, but it would show your family that you mean to make up for it.
Cost: 1 Profit burned. Sincere apology sent to your family.

You have the excuse of winter to explain why you delayed this so far, but if you wait much longer that will no longer be the case.

It's been a few months now, so you're not sure how sincere you will come across as.

First it was a no-DC action. Then DC 20. Then "excuse of winter." Now "you're not sure how sincere you will come across as."

This is a time-limited action. The longer we wait, the less likely it will profit and the more likely it will hurt us or just not profit us (And close off a means to advance long term). We cannot put it off any longer if we want to tap into our family's resources.

And remember, we really, really, really want to do that. A few bits of gold that add up to a Profit or two is going to be almost unnoticeable to a noble family, but could be a lifeline for us.

To anyone reading: Please don't be shortsighted. Please only vote for a plan that will mail a letter. Otherwise, we will be depriving ourselves of significant opportunities.

[X] Plan Self-sufficiency
-[X][Martial] Exercise with Sasha!
-[X][Stewardship] Your actual job.
-[X][Learning] Cast Iron Plow outline.
-[X][Diplomacy] Nearby villages.
-[X][Intrigue] Send an apology.
-[X][Piety] Faith of the Shield.
-[X][Personal] Learn to cook.
-[X][Free] Forgework.

Higher priority than the letter, at least while Varn is looking for an excuse to string us up
Varn cannot stop merchants and search them at will, he would not be able to find the letter. Additionally, anyone who was looking for a letter to the family would have stopped looking by now. Heck, it is probable that even our family have stopped expecting any communication from us.

Investigate Varn is learning widely known information, like his job and his usual personality. His distraction with the undead/ his presence are not important to that. Personally I would consider doing it after we "Southern contacts " or if we successfully apologise to our family. More contacts in the rest of the Kingdom are likely to make it easier/ give us more information from this.

Gotta agree here, this seems like the best option from what I can tell...

[X] Plan Job and Prep

I think this plan covers our base the bust out of the plans so far and allows us to advance. Most of the plan takes care of the most present threats by showing that we are doing our job and learning what we can about them. Learning about the near by villages could open up ways to make more profit in the summer. If we focus on making profit in the summer then we would be freer in our plans for the next seasons and this plan cost nothing. Researching the plow would likely help the villages the most by allowing then to till more soil in the sowing window to get the crops in time at lest to my understanding.

basically as long as we give Varn no rope to hang us with, we will be fine, just do our job and we can effectively ignore him.

A shame we did not have that free action from our helper this turn. It does look like getting the letter to our family sooner than later is a good thing, at the same time we would want to take forgeworks with it so we have enough profit to buy the farms next month so we can get profit from them this season. With that extra free action we could also do audit prep as well.
