Rank: traits, techniques and the like are all ranked based on overall power and effect. The ranks, in ascending order, are Mortal, Earth, Heaven, Immortal, and Divine. Each rank is further divided into tiers of Low, Mid and High.
Suppression: when two cultivators fight, the cultivator with the higher cultivation base is able to use their Qi to suppress the abilities of the weaker cultivator. This can range from a slight bit of weight pressuring them down to full body paralysis (Think Reiatsu from Bleach). In this quest, the suppression effect mainly appears as a decrease in all combat attributes. The greater the difference between the cultivation base of Zhang Tian and an enemy, the more his stats are decreased.
Pill Side Effect: a cultivator is only able to consume and digest a single pill at a time, with each pill having its own digestion time and a limit to the total number of times it can be used effectively. They become capable of transforming into the form of a hell god, gaining a great increase in strength and vitality. Cultivating this method increases the cultivator's natural strength and vitality, and any fire natured techniques they use will carry the power of hellfire. This method requires the user to cultivate while absorbing the energy from the beast core of a demonic spirit beast.

To walk this path is to face tribulation and laugh. The Origin of Heaven and Earth grants unparalleled and nearly infinite Qi and Vitality. At lower levels, the Qi of Origin can heal any wounds and even fight against curses descending from the Heavens. At higher levels, the cultivator is even able to create entire slave races or natural treasures that does not exist and cannot exist due to rejection by Heaven's Will. The cultivation method requires consuming the blood of various races and beasts.

We should go for Dao of Comprehension.
Well keep in mind, we have a System so comprehension is not strictly nessisary because we can always find some item to cheat. On the other hand, the production Daos (Pill and Refining) are system point producers (creating pills that trade higher than their component parts). System Points could then be used to accelerate cultivation.

Formations are typically larger scale. A 'ward' from the HP-fandom would not be a unreasonable comparison. Can do all kinds of crazy shit but generally insanely hard to learn in most settings. Inscriptions would probably be something along the lines of 'runes' and such. Likely used on items.
Dunno how powerful Traits, Methods, and Techs actually get to be but using Chaos and stuff like that is probably way above a freebie. That's probably at least an immortal rank cultivation method if not Divine. But if we can get it that'd be pretty cool. The Trait we get is a tier 3 out of 5 tiers so it's what we can get the most power out of but it's also the most passive. Method is Tier 2 & Tech is Tier 1.
These are of course subject to QM modifying them if they end up winning. One of them is gonna have to be nerfed at the very leastthe technique one but I'd like a starter version of it.

Wow, you guys are way better at making cultivation and technique name than I am. I spent like 10 mins flipping through name generators and such, and kept second guessing myself.
Of course, some of these ideas will need to be weakened to better fit their rank, or altered to fit the cultivaton system of the setting but I wont be throwing anything out. Also only the winning vote gets nerfed, if needed, everything else goes into the shop at an appropriate rank and price.
There's not really one. It has a bit of everything where cultivator's just follow whatever path fits them, resources permitting. I'll be going with something similar to Ancient Godly Monarch but there's no set path that's better than others.
Like in real life, people will follow whatever suits them or that they are, if not good, then decent at. You'll have some that focus soley on crafting or alchemy, as well as some that are straight martial artists or weapon cultivators. I will be going with the 'everyone has their own way of cultivating that works better for them than straight up meditation' route so most cultivators will have at least novice level talent in multiple fields.
In this setting:
Formations are like the barrier jutsu you see in Naruto. They can block attacks, lock down an area, trap people in an illusion or straight up kill them. There's no limit to what a formation can do. The only downsides is that they take time to properly set up so you can't do it mid combat, and that they can be broken from the inside if the person finds the hidden markers that are used in their creation.
Inscriptions are basically just enchantment runes. Carve then into an item using your Qi and it does something special based on the array you use. Most of them are one time use only and the creation process is delicate so you need to carefully prepare the items ahead of time to get any use out of it.

@Kolarthecool so can we buy or gain additional innate traits as time goes on? Also for the Dao are we limited to a max of 5 of those options when combined with later purchases?
Hitting above your level is like bread and butter of any Xianxia MC. High comprehension is for those Young Masters that people calls "Genius". They tend to get slapped around by the MC.
