I Used To Be The Demon Lord

Croaker switched his nonphysical self with the god nailed to the throne in the middle of the glittering plains. The god wanted to end his eternal watch over the plains but he could not leave the plains unattended because it was an interdimentional doorway.

Pulling my fingers apart, I looked at the floating translucent-screen, that only I could see, with annoyance. I had to choose one of the choices.

Damn it!

Fine! If I'm going to forced to join a Primary Quest then I'll go all the way! I pinged a finger at the confirm button. A new window popped-up, congratulating me for earning the Title of Chronicler. Yeah, yeah, I know; I quickly closed it.

Yorick looked at me with a wondering expression, "Did you jus-"

"Yeah, I'm part of your Quest now. Isn't that great?" I sarcastically replied as I stood back up.

"A most fortunate boon, indeed," Alister agreed.

I sighed as I placed my hands on my hips, "...Whatever. We're going to be working together now, so let's get along, I guess."

"Yeah, same here," Yorick replied.

The Dark Knight simply nodded.

A new System's Message appeared, informing them that I joined the Party and informing me of the same thing.

I took a quick peek at their info.

Yorick Lawrence, Level 127, Swordsman, Black Blader.
Alister Ark, Level 211, Dark Knight, Black Blader.

Huh, they had the same Title? Never heard of Black Blader before either. Not that it really matter since most Titles were redundant or renamed-repeats anyways.

"Woah!" Yorick raised his voice, his head snapped towards me, "You're only Level 28?!"

"Take into account that her she must have gained Experience from beating us, so her Level must have been even lower before our fight," stated Alister with his wrong analysis.

They were looking at me rather expectantly, wanting me to explain.

Well, besides the Ring Of Supreme Hardship to lower my Stats, I also had the Cursed Zero Ring which kept my Experience Gain Rate at 0. After I had acquired the Cursed Zero Ring, I really haven't leveled-up in a long time.

However, even though I lose some stuff through every life-time — such as my Titles and Equipments — I retain most of my Stats. Basically put, I owe most of my Stats to my predecessors who usually became stronger than the last with every reincarnation; so, as you can imagine, being the 400th something reincarnation, I was born with Natural Stats that could rival Level 300s at this point. Having leveled-up since then, I could match Level 400s; and, with my unspent Stat Points, 500s even.

Yeah, Reincarnation was all kinds of broken.

Still, I wasn't going to tell these two about that at all.

Luckily, having lived as often as I have, I had a few excuses ready to be used.

[ ] "Drop it." - It's not like they can force the answer out of me.

[ ] "I have a super-rare artifact that makes my Stats stronger." - Technically not a lie, since the Ring Of Supreme Hardship does make my Stats stronger if I take it off...

[ ] "I'm actually part..." - Secretly a half-breed who is amazingly powerful for their age or level? Surprisingly not as uncommon as one would think. Especially not when you're in a Primary Quest. Granted, the current me is most definitely just a plain ol' Human, but I can probably fake being a half-breed convincingly enough.

That aside, the quest system doesn't sound as bad as it did at first... Sure inconvenient when the world fail to regulate itself, obviously, though.
It's all fun and games until the World decides it needs some tragedy or that the Villains aren't evil enough and so secretly assigns the 'Red-Shirt' parameter to cities or kingdoms.

There will come a point in this tale where the heroes need of a super-rare artifact to give them a stat boost.

[X] "I have a super-rare artifact."

It's not really a lie. It is pretty rare. The opposite of practical for adventuring, but that's really none of their business.

Let's see here... Every one of them has a downside. The first one has the downside of leaving you suspicious, though they can't really do anything about it. The second has the downside of them wanting to know more about the "super rare artifact", and possibly them finding out. And the third is the most likely to fail since you'd have to keep up the charade all the time if you don't do it right. So I'm gonna suggest a fourth option.

[] Hand-wave it/feign ignorance. "I guess some people just have naturally high stats. Is it really that big of a deal?"

EDIT: And I just realized this is essentially a revised option 1.

EDIT 2: Changing my vote.

Edit: I think this is the first time i've joined one of your quests @Shintouyu which is actually kinda impressive due to your fuckhuge count.

-[X] "...actually you don't want to know what the other half of me is..." - That should keep them busy without having to actually come up with something.

[X] "I'm actually part..." - Human
-[X] "...actually you don't want to know what the other half of me is..."

Hint- It's human. But they don't know that.
