Hyrule Warriors

To be fair, Legend of Zelda doesn't seem to ever say 'Old better than new', they just don't bring up much from the modern side of things. I do agree that I'd like to see a fantasy setting actually treat magical progress properly instead of the usual old>new bullcrap.

Also, one thing I want to see more of, more human civilizations/cultures, we get a hint of it in Twilight Princess with Kakariko and Ordon, maybe the Sheikah too (although way less so than the other two). Oh and in Majora's Mask with Termina (although that was basically an alternate Hyrule).

I'm just getting rather tired of the only human cultures we see in the series being the Hylians and Gerudo.

Well, there was the Cobble Kingdom in Phantom Hourglass.

Zelda isn't a big quest rpg like FF. Smaller is better, remember the original HAD no villages, and the second, which introduced the concept had a variety of settlements but of a similar design.

Also there is the emphasis. Zelda is more of a maze/puzzle type as to journey through civilization to an end point and even when it is its intentional that these are small respites in a hostile worldscape and for a reason. At some point you will ask "Why doesn't Link ask for backup" a degree of isolation is key to the formula. Even if you meet or are accopanied by people it needs to not feel like you just at home.

BTW I watched the recording of GameXplain's japanese version and...

Its an okay game. Like most I'm seeingi limited replay value and some frustrations. As for wide appeal, who knows.
But I imagine it will do one that. Make Musou/DynastyWarriors-esque more of a thing, though, TBF, MOBAs and the like may have paved the away along with them already being a solid recognized niche with a lot of development and strong practice to avoid certain flaws or edges in the design.

I do feel Link is cheap though with way to much range and power relative to his level or development (Darunia, level 22 can't hold a candle in force, speed and power to Link at Level 12 let alone with the MAster Sword) It feels less like Link works for a badass victory so much as just needs to show up and you mash buttons.

Brunette Link has a distinct little sister vibe, Valkyrie Zelda continues to be the best Zelda, those Impas look so young they make me think they're actually Impa's niece or somesuch and middle Sheik is cool.

Here's hoping they release more DLC packs because I can imagine people wanting some of those concept outfits in their game.
And I agree, Valkyrie Zelda is totally best Zelda.

(To be fair she also doesn't look very Zelda so I understand why it wasn't picked. Also Archer Zelda gives me a distinct LotR elf vibe)

DLC, Mario Kart DLC
So some big news on the "DLC" Front.

First Link is being included in the first of the Mario Kart 8 DLC, along with at least one Legend of Zelda Themed track.

I am looking forward to this, because it is promised that by the end of the announced DLC we will have SIXTEEN NEW TRACKS!

That is pretty impressive right there.

Next is that the first "update" for Hyrule Warriors has been announced for next week, including the first "new weapon" to be featured.

I am quite shocked (and pleased) by what it will be.

TREMBLE BEFORE THE MIGHT OF THE LEGENDARY WOODEN SWORD!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that is a real blast from the past. I can't wait to see what they include next.

Seeing Nintendo get on board the DLC train makes me happy.
Probably because the stuff they put out should be pretty fun and worth the payment unlike a few dlc packs I've seen before.

So I got my hands on an early copy of Warriors and I can say the game is good. Not great but good.

The first day Patch brings in a new Challenge gamemode with only one map so far, and you need high Level character for it to get very far.

Once you get a empty bottle for potions you get free refills after every battle and can craft Special one use potions with dropped materials.

In Adventure mode, if you have Friends that also Play Warriors, sometimes you can help them out for better rewards but with an increase in Difficulty for that battle. I don't know if ist just for friends or random Players.

So I bought a WiiU yesterday in anticipation for a lot of games, but this one will be the first to be released. Caaaan't waaaaait~

Getting this tomorrow~

Got the Special Edition so I'll be rocking Link's Scarf too (or hanging it up somewhere, I dunno yet).

The NA release isn't until a week from now. :(

I wonder why the US release is so far behind the EU and AUS ones.

I'm annoyed, yes, but honestly fair's fair.

Apparently we'll be getting more characters via DLC; which is good (just not for my wallet). Fourteen isn't exactly anemic but considering I'm used to having 50+ in these games.... :p

I guess we're getting revenge right after they get revenge because Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is currently TBA in the EU.

After the 30th hits P4AU will have my time until all stories are complete, and then I'll get back to HW, which I hear has a lot of content.

Also, any word on who the DLC characters are? Maybe female Link, because that'd be awesome?

Malon had better be the first of those dlc characters.

...

But given the Mario Kart tie-in, I'm going to wager that it's going to be Mario.

I just saw it on Zelda Informer, so I would put stock in it

Also if you preorder the DLC as a Bundle you get the Dark Link Costume for free, like they are doing with the Mario Kart DLC and the Yoshi and Shy Guy Alternate Colors.

So, picked up Hyrule Warriors today, played like 7 hours of it so far and I am loving it. gameplay is tight, missions are really damn hectic, visuals are great.

Story's pretty decent too. I really like Cia's design, always was a fan of tan skin + white hair. Plus I like that she's actually tries to take on Ganondorf, at the point I'm at, she's managed to hold onto the Triforce of Power from the big guy himself. I actually find myself rooting for and liking Cia more than I do the heroes (and Lana in particular). If only because while I love Ganondorf, having ANOTHER villain be a legitimate threat would be amazing.

The only other Zelda villain to reach that tier of Villainery is Vaati, and he's not exactly been used a whole lot.

As an aside, since I got the special edition, I also got Link's Scarf, and I gotta say, it's really damn nice, very soft and warm.

I read there will be some free DLC that makes Cia and those other two villains playable.

I'm also tremendously jelly right now since I still have to wait a week.

Dammit My WiiU won't connect to my WiFi signal.

Getting the DLC is going to be a pain in the ass... And I REALLY wanna play as Cia...
