Hyrule Warriors

She fights like a dancer too, wonder if she shares some of her moveset with Fi. She certainly seems to have a lot of stuff unique to her nevertheless.

What? No friendly Zora troops? Bet they're useless out of water...

Darunia Darunia is an extremely powerful force, even within his tribe. And just like all Gorons, his rock-like body makes him tough to mess with. While he can sometimes be very stubborn, he does so out of love for his Goron brothers. In fact, referring to anyone as "brother" is a sign of the deepest affection a Goron can give. Darunia swings around his giant hammer like it weighs nothing at all (though some of them can weigh as much as a ton!). He also enjoys scattering enemies will a Goron specialty: the roll n' charge

Ruto A bit of a tom boy, Ruto is the princess of the Zoras. As with all Zoras of the Era of the Hero of Time, her home is located in Zora's Domain, a small village at the end of Zora's River that feeds into Lake Hylia. She may come off as a snooty, spoiled brat, and she is, but Ruto is also quite refined and dedicated to her cause. She does what she has to in order to protect those she loves most, and that certainly includes her future husband, Link (it's complicated). Water is Ruto's specialty, and she uses it to great effect in battle by summoning giant waves that crash into enemies as well as creating bubbles of water that she can swim through.

Sheik An individual of questionable origin, Sheik is revealed to Link and Impa during a time of great need. Introduced as a Sheikah, Sheik is ready and able to assist Hyrule's efforts, even if Impa is highly skeptical. Though quiet and betraying very little emotion, Sheik never the less finds ways to make a lasting impact on fellow warriors with a very distinct way with words. Kunai strapped to Sheik's legs allow for quick mobility and deadly ranged attacks when faced with enemies. Plus, a harp feels right at home between Sheik's fingers, allowing the youth to play devastating harmonies to shock, burn, or banish enemies to darkness.

Gohma is a legacy Zelda enemy known for its one large eye and spider-like appearance. The eye may be its weakness, but Gohma isn't about to leave it vulnerable, protecting itself with tough armor when not shooting lasers at anyone that bothers it. For something so large and armored, it's surprisingly quick and nimble, able to leap high into the air and stomp back down on unsuspecting warriors. Gohma is content to fire lasers at enemies from a distance, but can also get in close and personal with deadly claws and painful acid. Approach with extreme caution! Source

And we get a solution to the "Ganondorf with a sword" problem that Super Smash Bros always runs into by giving him two swords.

Which is a reference to both Ocarina of Time's Ganon fight and Wind Waker's Ganondorf.

Well, this is certainly being released far sooner than I had expected. Damn you Nintendo, you're worse than Steam at keeping my wallet empty.

Good to see that they're keeping the best characters costume set out of the various retailer locked pre-order bonuses.

Aw yes. Everything I could have hoped for.

This hype train has no breaks.

...Might get the DLC for the Twilight Princess iteration of Ganondorf, though.

Not too sure about the long hair. I mean, it might grow on me, and it doesn't look bad, per se, but... dat Twilight Princess Ganondorf.

The moment I unlock him I'm going to have a hard time forcing myself to play as... anyone else.

Well, maybe Darunia. He's fucking awesome cool too.

And Impa. She looks pretty sweet with that halberd naginata and bizarre ritual circles. And older women with big weapons is just something that appeals to me... in a "this is totally badass sense", of course.

And, uh, Zelda, for the novelty of it. Sure, in a lot of the recent games she's been instrumental when it comes to defeating Ganondorf, but like, actual playable Zelda. Yes.

Also, Lana kind of won me over with that whole jousting on a Deku sprout thing.

And it'd just feel weird not playing as Link, and he does look pretty badass here.

And Sheik, man, I kind of want to figure out what's up with Sheik. That harp riff at the beginning of Sheik's trailer... I know it's kind of petty of me, but that just filled my heart with nostalgia.

Zant is eh, but for the novelty factor, I'll probably have to see what it feels like to play as him.

...

I want this game.

Holy crap, I just realized that Sheik plays the various songs from Ocarina of Time on their harp.

It looks like Sheik's style first involves doing your combo attack, which ends in an elemental attack.

Then when you use the charge/heavy attack without any combo ahead of time(c1), they'll play the corresponding song on the harp and cast a spell based on the element of the song.

C5 is shadow (Nocturne of Shadow), c4 is wind (Song of Storms), c3 is water (Serenade of Water), c2 is fire (Bolero of Fire), and c6 is light(Prelude of Light).

I am sad that Minuet of Forest didn't get in though...

On an xbox controller it would be...
c1 - Y
c2 - XY
c3 - XXY
etc...

Sheik nostalgia hype.

Need to go back to Zelda's Baton trailer and see if there were any other songs besides Lost Woods/Saria's song...

Why do people compain about Ganondorf's hair? Check his "King of Evil" character model from OoT its even worse and with a hair-line in rapid retreat. the "lion mane" hair at least makes some sense with the overall "florid plays like opera and kabuki" motiffs from Dynasty warriors.
Though as people have pointed out he is rocking overall influences from the Rowdy Alien/Akuma-esque Demise.

Eh, I don't hate the hair, it just seems... odd on Ganondorf.

Though, it is kind of growing on me as part of his whole beastlike motif.

Still, though, TP Ganondorf was the coolest from a visual perspective, of the ones we saw.

Female Link concept art which became Linkle
HOLY SHIT FEMALE LINK WAS ALMOST A THING IN HYRULE WARRRIORS AS AN ALTERNATE LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the artwork

Well that was certainly unexpected, I wonder why they got so far as concept art only to nix having "Alternate Female Link" as a character given that three separate "worlds" are being accessed by Cia.

Also I wonder who the other two are beneath "Rinkeru's" artwork. Were they alternate designs of her or existing characters, or entirely new characters that got dropped?

Huh, I almost thought that was Saria for a minute.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a fem!Link option, but it seems like most of the characters are girls already. Seriously, the only guy on the hero side besides Link is Darunia!

I have just been informed that the girls under "Rinkeru's" concept art are the original designs for Lana and Cia respectively.

Apparently the original idea was to have them be Fairies instead of Sorceresses.
