Hyrule Warriors

Marin Confirmation
...Not surprised it runs poorly on the classic 3DS, my understanding is that Warriors games are traditionally resource hogs, what with all that goes on onscreen.

Anyways, NoA's been tweeting some behind the scenes stuff for Legends, like concept art and cut story images (there's currently a panel at a con somewhere, if you're wondering why). They also announced... Well...

Kinda slow there Leafy, I posted NoA's tweet 18 hours before you posted the vid. And there really isn't anything in the vid that isn't in the tweet (which kinda sucks, really, I was hoping for more).

Also, on the performance of Legends, I was watching the trailers on the eShop, and, well... "3D Mode only available when played on a New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL". Yeah, that does not say good things about how much processing power Legends uses. Of course, 3D mode on a older 3DS or 3DS XL is pretty pathetic anyways, so I'm not sure how that's a downside...

Ironically I find 3D works best on 2D games like Project X Zone or Shantae. Stuff really pops out.

Anyways... Marin? Seriously? I'm... Surprised. What's she gonna use? Be the third character to wield a harp?

Not that I'm unhappy though. Marin holds a weirdly fond place in my heart. Such a simple character that seemed to resonate more than she should have. She was actually the subject of the first Fanfiction I ever read; and the idea behind Link unable to accept that his lost love was literally just a dream had great potential for a damn good story. (It did not grasp that potential. It sucked.)

I can't even begin to think of moveset speculation. What are the items unique to Link's Awakening again?

LA was heavily themed around music and dreams; the dungeon completion items were the eight Instruments Of The Sirens, used to play the Ballard of the Wind Fish and open a hole in the Wind Fish's Egg, for example. It was also the first time your music item (an ocarina) had more than one song or tune.

However, I don't see Marin using a harp; although it was one of the Instruments, Marin was noted for her singing (and for teaching you your first ocarina tune). Seagulls and other birds were a thing for her; she had dreams of flight and escaping the island, and the "no death ending" variant adds a seagull that's implied to be Marin, having gotten her wish.

Honestly? Link's Awakening didn't have too much in the way of unique stuff, item wise. The game was more a "look at what you can do with the Game Boy" type thing, with a couple innovations, namely the "multiple songs" thing, the first trading sequence in Zelda history, the customization of the item buttons...

...Bomb Arrows. That's as close as you get to "unique" gear, unless you count the tunics from DX's Color Dungeon... Wait, that Flying Rooster you get for a while! Marin is known to be friendly with most animals on the island! Other than that, I've got nothing.

Makes me wonder even harder how they're gonna implement her.

I'm imagining a "Pop star" type character, but arguably Lana already covers that. I'm sure they have some sort of idea or else they wouldn't bother...

Hmm.

Practical: Sword and Shield x2, Giant Sword, Rapier, Twin Swords, Hammer, Scimitars, Longsword, Scepter, Spear, Crossbows, Sword and Pistol.

Impractical: Harp x2, Book, Bracelet, Umbrella, Shackle, Ring, Mirror, Mask, Balloons, Ocarina, Sail.

Game's evenly split on the "Yeah, you could use that in a fight" and the "WTF that's a household item being used to kill thousands of people" departments as far as primary weapons go.

Her specific superpower was singing, actually, and her songs were noteable in that they charmed animals and controlled monsters.

So, maybe something like Agatha except instead of bugs she attacks with bunnies and squirrels and little birds?

That would be magnificent!

It would be like Disney Princess Hardcore Edition!

To be fair, this is a Warriors game; that's SOP for weapon selection for Dynasty, Samurai, and Orochi (yes, even before you factor in the more creative weapon reskins), and Nintendo seems to be letting the Warriors devs have a great deal of creative freedom when it comes to weapon and move design.

Also, who other than Link and Sheik use a sword & shield and a harp? I'd also like to point out that the Spear should be x2 (Lana's Deku Spear and Volga's Dragon Spear), and that the Mask should be in the "Practical" category, since it is the freaking Fierce Deity Mask.

...Yeah, the Red Tunic was one of the two possible rewards for beating the Color Dungeon in DX. Acted as a permanent attack boost, similar to what you would get if you picked up a Piece of Power.

Yeah, Zheng Ji's Flute remains an all-time favorite in my household.

Toon Link uses a Sword and Shield, and Medli (Who is not yet available) uses a harp I believe. I was only counting primary weapons, since link has enough options to arm an army and Lana has a... Hula hoop?

As for the mask... Well, all the "Impractical" weapons are apparently/likely magical in nature and thus actually pretty good for the whole killing thing. Either that or Tingle is really, really hardcore.

Speaking of Warriors Orochi... I am really pulling for Link and the gang showing up in one. Would be epic.

It has been speculated that is her weapon, and it is probably the Sea Lily's Bell, on of the Eight Instruments of the Sirens.

This speculation came from Zelda Informer.

Makes sense. Wonder if she's just gonna, y'now, wack people with it.

I also wonder if they're gonna add any more Original Generation characters like Linkle and Lana. Maybe another Twili, maybe a character tying into the as-yet-unnamed next zelda game, maybe someone who will be more important in Hyrule Warriors 2...

I'm holding out for Ralph, Oracle Din, and Oracle Nayru.

Also Vaati, though he's more a shoo-in to show up eventually given he's had two or three games in a starring (villainous) role so less of a longshot.

Also also the Postman/Running Man. Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail nor horde of demons shall stop this carrier from his appointed rounds of kicking your ass.

Whoah. Holy crap guys.

Okay, I haven't been talking about it much but I have been playing a LOT of Hyrule Warriors: Legends. F'ing TONS of it. Once a day, usually. I still haven't gotten close to unlocking all the weapons and such (These games are maaaassive.) but I have sunk a lot of hours into it. It being on a portable system is just really a great thing.

But today, with the release of more DLC, I plugged in the original Hyrule Warriors and played it on the WiiU. Going from the chugging original 3DS which can barely run the game to the full-fledged console release that I hadn't touched in months... The feeling was... Well. There is only one image that describes it.

ANYWAYS. We have both Marin and a new weapon for Linkle (Linkle is the best. Have I mentioned Linkle is the best?). It's weird playing as that little girl I met on the original game boy and haven't heard anything from in over a decade and suddenly devastating armies with her.

To be honest, the movesets feel kind of phoned in. The kicks and swings from these weapons seem kind of repeated; Linkle kicks... Then Kicks twice... Then kicks three times... Woo. Marin swings and unleashes a water orb. Then another water orb. Or uses one of her three moves which are slight variations of "Spin around with weapon outstretched". Wee.

Not that they're not technically solid. Plenty of combo opportunities and the bell is massively great crowd control. The Wing Boots' XXXXXY is pretty hype too. And when Marin summons the Wind Fish it still looks spectacular.

Dataminers have apparently been peeking in the files, and may have found out what the DLC characters are.
From Link Between Worlds, we're getting Yuga and Ravio. From presumably Spirit Tracks, we're getting Toon Zelda.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
Huh. Here I thought with the Wii U basically dead, the 3DS dying off, and FE Warriors out, that I wouldn't be returning to this thread outside of looking for context on rating I might get.

Then we get the mini-Direct announcing Definitive Edition for the Switch... and nobody bothered to update this. But now... we have news.

I am officially very happy with the item card shop, although not quite as happy as when I misread it and thought you could buy crafting materials...

Well, definitive was out yesterday and I've played a bit...didn't have much time to do much but it seems to run pretty well on my switch.

Kind of glad I hadn't gotten Legends...didn't have a WiiU so that wouldn't be something I'd have had either.

Definitely plays more smoothly than Fate Extella for the genre...

Honestly, Hyrule Warriors ran perfectly fine on the Wii U. It was running it on a basic 3DS that was a problem, although it was less of a issue on a New 3DS.

The difference between a clone and a spinoff.

Also, the starting lineup for Definitive is insane; it's literally all the characters from the Wii U base game, plus Cia and her minions from the Master Quest update, and with Linkle as a bonus.

Ganon's Fury is a nice way to start grinding for Rupees and Boss Materials early on.

I am sure it will be outpaced later on by the Adventure Maps for Rupees, but the possibility of getting Boss Materials easily in under ten minutes after grinding to level up Ganon a bit will certainly make things easier, especially since you are more then likely to get at least one Gold Quality per Boss Map.

To low level for the Challenge Mode but they will also be good will also be good for Boss Materials later on.

Also remember you now have the option of buying Item Cards in Adventure Mode Maps the moment after you earn the first one of a type.

So after you first get a candle in a Map you can buy as many candles as you want.

That should certainly make things easier as well.
