End of Season One
You keep going, leaving the two hired guns on the floor, and you keep going past the third, carrying the injured man on your shoulders. You know you could run faster, but the man is already in bad shape. You don't know if his body could take the stress of moving at a high speed. Even as you move him, you see the bandages coming off, and the unfortunate test subject starts bleeding. You don't want to think about how much that would hurt If he wasn't sedated.
As you, climb out of the bunker, you see the brownish red liquid that claims to be water start to flow under on the floor you were just standing on. You carefully put the man down on a pair of chairs to make a makeshift bench.. As he lays there, you can see that some blood has soaked through his bandages, and you see some boils on his skin, some on his arms, and some of the little of his face you can see through the bandages. If it wasn't for the slightly erratic rise and fall of his chest, you'd think he was dead.
"There's a couple of ambulances on the way, Sunny. Should be there in a minute" Jasmine says. "Do you... I can't see how that guy's doing. You... do you think he's gonna make it?"
"I don't know. It... doesn't look good." You say as you jump back in the bunker. You land with a splash, as the water is up to your toes and is starting to climb quickly. You move quickly as well, going back the way you came to get the hired guns. As you go back, you see that the mohawked man that you choked out earlier roll onto his chest and try to push himself up.
"Uh… what the... what the fuck happened...?" He mutters. You don't give him a chance to think about the answer. You kick the man in the face, sending him tumbling back into unconsciousness. You pick him up with ease, and carry him back out of the bunker, and then repeat the process once more to get the other two hired guns. Finally, you're covered up to your knees in... you don't want to know, but all four people are safe.
When you open the door, you see an ambulance with two police cars with two officers each, one car in front of the ambulance and one behind it. You notice that none of them have their sirens on, but their lights are flashing. They must've arrived when you went down that last time. The officers are just getting out of their squad cars when one of them spots you.
"HCPD! HANDS IN THE AIR!" The officer shouts, drawing his sidearm.
Before you can run or fight, the officer next to him motions for him to lower his gun. "Put your weapon down, rookie! That's the one that called it in!" The an older officer shouts at his subordinate. He's an older man in his mid 40's. He looks hangered, his eyes bloodshot. At his command, the younger officers lower their weapons. He then turns to you.
"We'll take it from here" The man says as the officers enter the building to make sure it's secure. "And of course, you were gone by the time we got here, right?"
You nod, understanding as you start to leave. As you do, one of the paramedics looks at you, back to the cops, and back to you before shrugging as soon as the officers confirm that the building is clear. You drive off as the medics disappear into the ruined building.
You start speeding back to the mansion, ready to call it a day, but you feel... conflicted. On one hand, you did what you came to do. You saved the lives of two, hopefully three innocent people, you caught several criminals, and you've put an end of Lussiac's experiments, for the time being anyway. On the other hand, she got away. And you doubt you've heard the last of her.
"Look, Sunny." Jasmine says. "This wasn't ideal. We both know that. But I think we did good here. And I think we should be proud of that"
"Heh, you're right, Kells." You say. "We'll get her next time. For now, we saved lives, and that's enough." You smile a warm smile as you turn on the radio. A synthwave song starts playing over the radio as you head back. You haven't been out that long, but right now, you feel like you need to shower and go to sleep for a few days.
But for now, you can feel satisfied that you made a difference, however small.
And that's enough.
