Holding Out For A Hero: An Original Superhero Quest

Perception roll

Edit: that looks like a pretty well nailed spot check.

Mook rolls

The sniper mook gets an enhanced success, and he hits for quite a bit of damage.

The AR mook shoots, but misses. He rolled a 12, 2 over his AR score. The other four rolls were my mistake.

You raise your sword at the pistol wielding mook and bring it back down, hilt first. The man's head snaps back and he collapses to the ground like a sack of bricks.

You look up to get a bead on your next target. What's when you see a flash in the distance and you feel like you got punched in the chest, even through your armor. You take a step back and your chest feels like its on fire.

You grit your teeth to hold back a scream. You don't need to look down to see the hole that rifle made in your armor.

The goon with an assault rifle sees you get hit and he takes his chance to aim at you with his own rifle. As soon as he pulls the trigger, you're on the move. You pop up a barrier that takes some of the bullets, and move to put something between you and him. He sprays wildly as you dodge the rounds, hitting the van they came in, surrounding trees, and you're pretty sure one of the few remaining houses. You dive behind one of the larger trees as one of the few pieces of cover just as your barrier collapses. You're planning on using Lightning to hit him, then casting it again to take out the man with the sniper rifle.

But as you are about to try to gauge his location, you see someone pulling something from out of the back of the white van.

Turning your head, you see a third mook, the one who had run away before. Or rather appeared to. But right now, you see him, having retrieved Molotov Cocktail from the van. And now, its lit and ready to throw. He pulls his arm back and gets ready to launch it towards you.

[] Use barrier. It should keep you safe from the Molotov. And the other guy's bullets just in case they try something.
[] Use Reflect. You haven't tried it on fire, but it still should work.
[] Get out of the way.
- [] Write in your next attack
[] Catch the Molotov mid-air and throw it back at him.
[] You don't see the man they were targeting anymore. Just leave.

[X] You don't see the man they were targeting anymore. Just leave.

I don't like these guys, but not enough to die for it. Besides, I'm pretty sure our new friend is gone.

[X] You don't see the man they were targeting anymore. Just leave.
We got their leader, which likely means these goons won't be nearly as effective, and we got our victim to safety, and hopefully he'll be able to make a living for himself with this second-chance he's been given thanks to us...

I can understand trying to leave - but I'm not sure that these guys will let us.

So half want to leave and half want to stay and fight defensively. I'll keep voting open for another day. If the results don't change, I'll roll a dice. Even, then we'll attempt to leave. Odd, and we'll use a Barrier, since that's the vote that has the most support in terms of sticking around.

Looks like we're fighting. Someone, please roll Mystic Arts for a barrier.

And please write in how you're going to attack. That will b a separate vote

... Okay no one else's is coming out with a plan.

[X] Fireball into the car. Then prioritize sniper.
-[x] Concentrate on keeping barrier up.

Remove their extra ammo store, and we have to get that sniper down. Also extra fire makes it more likely we'll see said sniper.

...disagree. I very strongly want to either immediately get rid of the sniper (they seriously shot right through our armor and put us in danger of falling to a graze) or get the hell out of Dodge.
[X] Fireball the sniper
-[X] Use his buddies for cover.

or...

[X] Keep the Barrier up as we extract ourselves.

I really have no preference, but not dealing with that sniper is a death sentence.

Looks like we have a plan of action. Fireball the van, then go after the sniper

I just need to make some rolls. And while I'm doing that, someone please make a roll for the Fireball

You whip your body around as fast as you can and throw a fireball at the van. Its a direct hit and the van starts to go up. As if a response, the goon nearby throws his own molotov at you. The bottle hits the barrier you manage to erect and splashes it with flaming gasoline. The flames obscure your view, but the barrier keeps you safe. From your right, you hear the report of an assault rifle, and your barrier ripples as the bullets pepper it. You dash from behind the tree, trailing flames behind you to get out of the way. The bullets tear through trees as the gunman continues to fire.

As you keep moving, you summon another fireball and throw it. The man with the assault rifle flinches, but the fireball flies past him and continues across the dry field, until it hits its target, the sniper that had just hit you.

You hear him screaming and you see his body flailing. He's out of the fight, two to go.

There's a bright flash of light as the your fire catches the fuel tank. The van explodes, engulfing the area around it in fire and shrapnel. You had gotten out of range while avoiding the assault rifle fire, but the other man near the van wasn't so lucky. The goon who threw the molotov cocktail was fishing for another while your attention was on his comrades and he's engulfed in the explosion. You hear half a letter from him as his charred corpse hits the ground.

You turn to the only man left standing. He stares wide eyed, hands shaking. But after a brief moment as his flight and fight instincts battle each other, something in his head wins, or more likely loses, and he levels his assault rifle at you.

*click*

You drop your fading barrier as the young skinhead pulls the trigger rapidly, producing a continuous clicking sound as if the rifle was was mocking his situation. He looks up at you, then throws his rifle to the ground.

"Yeah, you beat us! But its all because of your powers! You're still nothin'!" He growls at you with a shaky voice. " Makes sense that a noid would stick up for a ****. You freaks always stick together." He taunts, despite the fact that you just blew up his van and set his friend on fire. Still, his demeaner is betrayed as he takes a step back as you walk towards him.

[] Restrain him.
[] Rough him up.
[] Knock his lights out.
[] Kill him.
- [] Write in how you'll do the deed

Your choice made and done, you hear Jasmine on your earpiece. "Bad news Vigil" Jasmine says as "Looks like that explosion finally got the cops attention. Someone called and the leos are on the way."

You look around. There aren't many houses still standing, but you see one a few hundred feet away with its lights on. You guess they were one ones who called.

[] Stick around for the cops.
- [] Stabilize the surviving wounded criminals
[] Make your escape before the cops get here.
- [] Stabilize the surviving wounded criminals
[] Look around for the man they were chasing to make sure that he's alright.

There's nobody around to testify about their actions if we leave.
Given the cops want to arrest us or bring us in for questioning, I doubt that they will take our testimony over attempting to arrest us. We are a criminal after all even if our crimes are being a vigilante and the stuff that goes with that.
