You, are sitting in the passenger seat of the family car as you drive down the road to Jasmine's house. You're wearing your Corporal Steel costume. It's a replica of his powered armor, though sadly doesn't have the minigun in the shoulder. Still, with your toughness and magic, you're pretty much as safe as the man himself is. And you've tied up your hair so tightly that it may legally qualify as a helmet on its own.
"So, we were lifting this guy's truck, about to get to work on it. I saw the problem in a second. A giant hole right in the bottom of the engine. No idea how it got there." Adrian says, talking about his day at the autobody shop. He's wearing a Sunspot jumpsuit. It looks remarkably close to the real thing, even from what you remember of seeing it up close. Though Adrian's has less blood and broken glass. "But Johnny, he looks in the wheel well, and sees a enormous... enormous package of... sugar" He glances at the rearview mirror, adjusting it to look at Gwen.
Gwen is in her Starhammer costume, headpiece, cape and all. She's excited for movie night. She glances at the hot wings and dipping sauce you and Adrian made for the movie marathon. You just hope that Jasmine picked up somewhat age appropriate movies. Or at least, one or two for Gwen to watch before she falls asleep. You've seen Jasmine's taste in movies and they can be a bit... rough.
"Heh, you'd think they'd remember to grab it before they took the SUV into the shop." You say, chuckling.
"Who knows. Maybe they didn't think we'd find it." Adrian says. "So, I'm freaking out, trying to think of what to tell this guy while Johnny calls the cops-"
"Why were you calling the cops? Sugar isn't illegal, right?" Gwen says. Then, her eyes widen, and glance at the large container of frosted cookies you baked for movie night. "...right?"
"Don't worry. This was American sugar. That guy probably had... Bolivian sugar." You quickly say. You don't want to have the drug talk with Gwen for another few years.
Gwen thinks about it for a moment, then shrugs, then furrows her brow. "That's stupid. Sugar's sugar. Why is it illegal if it's from another country?" Gwen asks.
"It has a lot to do with international policy and trade and stuff. It's really boring" Adrian assures her.
Gwen shrugs, satisficed. Though she mutters something about it still being stupid.
"Fine..." Gwen says. For the rest of the drive, Adrian explains how he had to keep the alleged drug smuggler busy, while waiting for the cops to arrive. Explaining various "issues" that the car was having. After a little while, you drive up to Jasmine's apartment. As you arrive, you see another woman a few years older than you already getting out of her SUV. It's Lauren Bowers, a family friend of Jasmine's and her two kids, Dominic and Crystal All three are wearing the yellow and purple costumes of an independent villain team from out west, the TnC Army.
Lauren smiles as she sees you. "Oh, looks like the DSA really sent out the big guns to catch us this time." She says to her kids with a large smile. "How are you doing? Sonya and Adrian, right?"
"That's right. And you're Lauren? Jasmine's told be a bit about you. You taught her how to play piano when she was a kid, right?" You say.
"I certainly tried" Lauren says, grinning. "Don't know if any of is stuck"
While you all are talking, Gwen stands in front of the brother and sister, pointing at them and striking a pose. "In the name of Justice and Order, I'm bringing you to... Justice!"
Dominic, the older of the two siblings at around 8, simply smiles and gives out a short but loud laugh. "You ain't taking me alive!" Then he takes off, running past the car and towards Jasmine's apartment building. Krystal, not to be outdone, simply blows raspberries before taking off after her brother.
"Stop! In the name of the law!" Gwen says in an exaggerated Starhammer impression before giving chase.
"Hey, don't run off. It can get dark around here, and we don't wanna lose you." Adrian says, scooping up Gwen before she can get too far. Lauren runs past him to get her own children.
Gwen just pouts. "You just let the bad guys get away..."
When you get inside the apartment, you see a modest spread of popcorn, candy, sodas, and various snack foods on a folding table, while the right wall is taken up by a projection screen. Her stuff, a computer filled with figurines, Jasmine is working on hooking up her laptop to the projector when she sees you come in. "Hey guys! We're almost done setting this thing up. Lock the door behind you and grab some snacks" She says, waving at you. Jasmine's dressed in a Camp Rolling Hills Councilor Uniform.
There are already a few people here, all in costume. A couple of people from Jasmine's roleplaying group, one of which has brought her girlfriend and son. Another guy you vaguely recognize.
"Good to see you again. You keeping Sonya out of trouble?" Adrian asks Jasmine.
"I would like to plead the 5th Amendment to protest me from self incrimination" Jasmine says in a joking manner. All three of you know just how much trouble you'll deny you've been in.
"Alright, looks like everyone's here." Jasmine says, grinning. "Anyway, I got a bunch of movies here. And since she's the only one who didn't laugh out loud, I'm letting my close, close friend Sonya pick the first one. And remember, Sunny, there are kids here, so try and keep it family friendly" Then she leans in to whisper. "Once the kids are asleep and the parents take them home, that's when we get to the good stuff." Jasmine says with a wide grin. You take a look at the box,
[] Spirit's Revenge: A group of criminals who want to make the jump to Villains break into a former Vigilantes lair to steal their old equipment. But while there isn't any traditional security, the hero's ghost is still protecting his former lair.
[] Scooby Doo on Zombie Island: Shaggy, Scooby, Fred, Velma, and Daphne reunite after a year-long hiatus from Mystery, Inc. to investigate a bayou island said to be haunted by the ghost of the pirate Morgan Moonscar.
[] My Name Is Frankenstein: A 2013 adaptation of the classic story. Apparently takes more from the book than the movie, but it can't be that bad.
[] Santa Claus vs. The Devil: A demon named Pitch is sent to Earth by Lucifer on Halloween to ruin Christmas by killing Santa and "making all the children of the Earth do evil".
[] Frank: The Movie 2: Ghost to Coast: A Youtube celebrity's second attempt to broaden his audience. While technically a horror movie, the scariest things are things not meant to be scary.
[] Tales That Give You Goosebumps: An anthology of several stories written by R. L. Stein.
[] Cambial Holocaust 2: A group of student search for their professor after he goes missing in the Amazon. Along the way, they make contact with an unknown tribe. "No seriously. It isn't as bad as the first one" Jasmine says. "You'd show this to kids?" You ask. "Yeah. There isn't that much gore. No bad language. It's practically an action movie with a bit of horror!" Jasmine explains.
[] I'll let someone else pick.
