"So... how certain are we that he is a evil sorcerer?" Lazarus asked as she looked at the fence surrounding the mansion.
"Fairly." I said as I loaded the shotgun with buckshot. Not good against armor, or armored demons but against anything we should find in there, it should work well, "From what I remember and have seen, everything seem to be lining up. But that's why I asked Aiko to have a look before we move."
If this was some kind of alternate reality where he was not a demon ascending evil spell caster, it would really suck to go in there and shooting him. Even ignoring the entire murder thing, he was a rather skilled mayor.
"I guess." Lazarus said with a frown, "But... still. Human."
"Just because you are human don't mean you can't also be a monster." I said and finished loading, "Remember the plan?"
"Of course. You and miss foxy go in, I stay with the car." Laz answered and frowned, "Just... be careful."
"When am I ever not careful?"
I just got a raised eyebrow in response. Okay, fair enough.
There was a knock on the window and I opened the door and got out, "What do we go?"
Aiko shrugged, "Evil magic. I saw at least two vampires working in the building. The man you showed the picture of is in his office, I saw him from the outside. He was reading some kind of large leather bound book, it smelled of death."
"So evil sorcerer confirmed." I said and nodded, reaching in to putting a pair of grenades in my belt and checking that my pistol and machete were in their right spots and firmly attached, "Let's go be bad guys."
Aiko smiled brightly, "Stay close, I have a clear path to the house."
I nodded, "Lead the way and then stay safe."
She just winked and blurred, being replaced by a small white fox that dodged across the road, leaving me to keep up.
I had to work to keep up with her. Damn, she is fast when she want to be. Also... running through a dark forest? Good way to break your ankles.
Luckily it was only ten meters or so to the fence, a three or so meters tall. Hardly a problem. I didn't even slow down as I ran towards it and jumped, one foot against it propelled me a bit higher and I grabbed the edge, flipping myself over it to drop down on the other side, landing easily before I froze and listened hard.
Nothing. Before me were an expensive lawn that stretched all the way to the mansion. The little white fox landed next to me, both tails swaying before she jumped up to lay across my shoulders and I felt reality shift around us, getting blurry.
Aiko nipped at my ear to get me to move and I nodded, starting a run across the grass until I reached the mansion, trusting her illusion to keep me covered.
As soon as I reached the wall, Aiko jumped off my shoulders and stopped by the door, giving it a small pawing.
Nodding I un-shouldered the shotgun and reached to pull the handle down. The door opened easily enough, sliding open without a sound and I peeked inside. A bored looking guard facing away from the door. Mirror to the left.
No reflection, vampire.
Easy.
I glanced down. Aiko was gone. Good, she'll stay safe. Entering silently I pulled my machete and ran across the hallway. One chop and one less vampire.
A soft yip made me look over, seeing Aiko by the stairs, motioning up them with her head. Nodding I headed up the stairs, allowing her to lead me through the mansion to a door where she stopped and them disappeared.
Hmm. I paused and listened by the door. Nothing, a pair of voices. I recognized one of them, the mayor.
Let's get this over with and hope he don't blast me into the next century. Sorcerer after all. Taking a step back I double checked my shotgun.
Stepping forward, I kicked the door hard and it flew open. A pair of surprised people looked in my direction. One behind a desk and a guy in a dark robe.
I instantly fired, the blast catching darth wannabee in the neck and he turned to slime, splattering across the room before I shifted my aim at the shocked looking mayor.
"Uhm..." He started to say as he stared at me before slowly starting to get up, "I'm sure whatever it is that you want, we can come to some sort of..."
I racked the shotgun and pulled the trigger straight into his face. His head just kinda exploded and he slumped back into the chair again.
I racked the shotgun and pulled the trigger again and again until I ran out of shells before I pulled my pistol and aimed at the bloody mess. It didn't move.
"No, I don't think we can." I told him as I stayed like that for a couple of second. I then shouldered my shotgun and turned to walk out as I took a incendiary grenade from my belt and pulled the pin before throwing it into the room before breaking into a run.
A loud wump and the air slammed into me, almost causing me to stumble and suddenly everything behind me was fire.
I hit the exit running as fast as I could across the law and somewhere on the way, a white fox shimmered into view right next to me. The wall was not any bigger obstacle on the way out and I vaulted over it, landing easily on the other side.
A second later Aiko landed next to me. Next thing I knew my back was against the brick wall as she grinned up at me with a giggle, "That was fun! Did you see the look on his face? I love playing tricks."
Sometimes you get a stark reminder that your girlfriend are not human. This was one of them.
I put my arms around her automatically, "Aiko, this can wait until we get home?" I said as she pressed closer.
"Why?"
"For one thing, beds are more comfortable. But this place will also be swarming with police and firefighters soon... and Lazarus is waiting with the car."
She tilted her head before she sighed and pulled away, "Fine..."
