Hell is other angels

So will Saint find daemons that he is familiar with in this world? I think it would be hilarious if a squad of seemingly invincible daemons ambushed him and he just so happens to know their week point. Cue everyone looking at him like he is crazy while he just shrugs and idly mentioning that it felt weird to run into them here.

With Taziel backing him, he basically can do that with everything, whether the Doom Slayer personally experienced them or not.

There's something to be said for the intimidation factor of stabbing an asshole in the head with his own horn and killing them.
Especially if said asshole is one of those "I'm not invincible, but you won't do jack unless you know the gimmick" assholes.

That's basically the bar for 'nice fellows' among demons. Do they eat people? No? Okay, cool. (Though only having to eat things like, I dunno, the hair of humans does definitely help push them towards the less bad area.)
No, it's not. It was full of vampires, and the Morkatos demon didn't seem like the type to abstain from human flesh either. Same with the scaly maggot guy who got his brains blown out.
The only criteria is that they're civilized enough to want to get drunk, and picky enough not to eat the disgusting bartender.

Warding yourself against all sorts of possible threats, with a single loophole, is very popular in some stories. It's also usually a bad idea.

I have it on good authority that Fate sees that sort of thing as a challenge.

Returning to the hotel just before dawn, I carefully unlocked the door before slipping inside and shrugging of my jacket and walking straight into the bathroom to take a shower.

I had blood everywhere. Most of it demon, but they got a couple of now healed scratches in. Some of them were more than scratches but nothing Taziel couldn't handle. I managed to milk the bar for some more information and then I killed them all. Well, the ones that didn't talk anyway.

Willy was one of those that was more than willing to tell me everything he knew. It grinded my gears to let any of the demons out of there, but allowing the ones that cooperate go was good policy until you could wipe them all out. If they fed on humans, there were no possibility of peaceful cohabitation.

But there were also friendly non-humans. Like Aiko. I couldn't help but smile at that thought as I worked green blood from my hair. Very friendly in fact. They were people just like any human.
So you couldn't just wipe out all non-humans like some likely wanted. A lot of innocent people would get hurt if that started to happen.

That was one of the reason I wasn't sure if it might be a good idea to pull the veil back from the eyes of humanity as large. But not just for the friendly or neutral non-humans, but also for humanity itself. Could you imagine the chaos?

It would be a complete witch hunt. My neighbor was a shapeshifting demon! I had to kill him! A new wave of 'burn the witch', now with more innocents!

Never mind what would happen if the entire 'sacrifice to a demon-god for power' really took of mainstream.

No. As much as it sucked, it might actually be better to keep these things in the shadows as depressing as that might seem. As bad as it was, maybe the alternative was even worse.

Fuck this world.

Turning the shower off, I reached for a towel and dried off before walking out into the bedroom where I spotted a pair of amber, almost glowing eyes watching me from the bed.

"Oh... Sorry. Didn't mean to wake you." I said and walked over.

The air seemed to blur for a split second before revealing Aiko in her human form, laying on her side, a small white pearl like ball on the bed next to her, "Woke up when you came in." she said and stretched, "How did it go?"

"I have a lead. Got some information about a demon called, K'lekt. I tracked him down and got an address, we'll check it out tonight, just some recon... but I need sleep. We likely need the slayer and her gaggle of hangers-on for the assault anyway."

"Also, less people around during the evening." Aiko agreed and let me lay down next to her, "I think I'll have a look around as you sleep."

"Mmm. Just be careful... don't want the slayer to get stabby around you." I sighed and eyed her.

Aiko smiled and played with that tennis ball sized pearl, "You worry about me?"

"Of course I do." I said as I watched the white ball as she tossed it into the air just to catch it again.

"Thank you." She cooed and tossed it into the air again and I reached out to catch it quickly before she could.

Aiko froze and watched me intently as I looked the ball over. I could feel it teeming with power beneath the surface.

Giving her a smile, I handed it back, "Pretty."

She slowly took it in both hands, looking at it and then at me, "...You know how important this is. You could have made me do anything you wanted."

"And?" I asked her with a smile, "Why would I want anything like that?"

Never mind that trying to force a Kitsune to do something by holding their ball was a very, very bad idea on the level with very few other things. They were like fey in that way. And that was just Aiko herself, her mother and father would... well, there are some trouble I bet even Taziel wouldn't be able to get me out of.

Also, I liked Aiko quite a bit and it would make her sad. Honestly, it was mostly that. I wasn't in love with Aiko... but in time it might grow to something like it. I had not known her for long, less than... wow. Less than a month.

Smiling brightly, she cuddled close to my side and put the big ball of power down on my chest before resting her head against my shoulder.

Her hand kept it in place as I put my arm around her before I frowned,

"You know, that thing won't stay there."

"It can for a bit before I hide it again." She answered and slowly rolled it with her fingers.

"Hide it, huh?" I said with a grin, "Now that you mention it, I never seen you carry it around before. Where do you hide it?"

Aiko smirked and propped herself up on her elbow as she looked down on me, "Wouldn't you want to know." and closed her hand around the white ball of power making it wink out of existence before she grinned and flicked her hand, bringing it back.

"Now that's a neat trick without sleeves." I commented and slowly reached out, holding my hand out for her.

She looked at me for a second before she handed it over, dropping it into my hand. I slowly rolled it between my fingers. It felt almost like a giant pearl, but was lighter like it was filled with air. Warm and smooth, but not like any kind of plastic.

"Nice." I said and held it out for her to take, "Too bad it's not smaller, it would look great in a necklace for you."

Aiko eyed it and snapped her fingers, causing it to disappear back to... wherever it was that she hid it when not in the open. It had to be somewhere as it held part of her power while in human form.

"Maybe." she said and shifted up to kneel, the light from outside playing across her as it shone in through a crack in the curtains, "But it would be pretty easy to steal then."

"True." I agreed as I watched her, "But maybe a replica... imagine the look on their face if they steal it and realize it's a fake one."

"...I'm so getting one made." Aiko said with a grin and shifted closer.

"Aiko, the idea was for me to get some sleep."

"Sleep later."

The lady presents a compelling argument.

I'm guessing the pearl Aiko has in the update is already a replica and she is testing Saint.
Not everyone is a master manipulator, and Aiko would need to have a rather shocking twist in her character for me to believe she staged the whole scene. More likely is that she is beginning to feel more comfortable around him, in that she sees Hiver as more than another mortal lover, and brought the ball out on an impulse. Partially as a show of trust, partially to see how he reacts, and partially for the shock value. Kitsune are natural tricksters, and I imagine the reason the supernatural world is not swarming with nine-tailed foxes is because that inclination does not lend itself to good decision making.

Rather growing to like Aiko, here's to hoping she stays around for a good long while yet. Cute fox girls are always a plus when your life kicks you in the nuts as often as it does Saint. *Raises glass of Angry Badger*

so, the whole "giving the ball back" thing probably Earned Saint a few good points from Aiko and her Parents....
