Heir To The World (Medaka Box/JJBA) - Revamped SV Version!

Chapter One: 7
[X] "As I see it, the only weed dirtying school property here is the spoilt brat before me, throwing a tantrum because he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted. Now are you going to grow up and stop, or will I have to teach you a lesson in [discipline]?"

"As I see it, the only weed dirtying school property here is the spoilt brat before me!" You declare rather dramatically, pointing both hands at Hyuga and slightly leaning back your head so you can look down on him. "Throwing a tantrum because he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted! Now are you going to grow up and stop being rude, or will I have to teach you a lesson in discipline?"

"Fuck you! Who the hell do you think you are, looking down at me like you're my goddamn superior?!" Hyuga straightens up, brandishing his sword once again. "I'm a nationally famous kendoist! I don't need weeds holding me back, and sure as hell I don't need people around telling me what to do! That grand Kendo Hall...should belong only to me!"

He swings his sword again.

You, however, didn't keep up your pose for nothing. You catch the flat sides of the blade between yours palms while at the same time straightening your spine, shifting your center of gravity so that the force of Hyuga's blow is distributed evenly through your body and into the ground. This method allows you to block the blow with the minimum amount of force needed and to trap his bokken, thus neutralizing the green haired boy's advantage.

You told Medaka the truth: when it comes to Kendo you are only average.

In a display of impressive flexibility your right foot shoots up between Hyuga's arms and slams right into his chin.

Your real specialty is Savate.

Losing his grip on the bokken Hyuga is sent spinning backwards through the hallway. Luckily for him you held back, so when he hits the wall the impact doesn't produce web cracks on the concrete.

Switching the bokken's grip to your right hand you calmly walk towards Hyuga, who is slowly pushing himself up while bleeding from both the nose and the mouth. The red liquid's smell excites you, something that must has shown on your face because Hyuga's eyes widen.

"Do you not get along well with others Hyuga? Do you need to be taught not only discipline, but also how to better socialize?" Your smile widens to the point your slightly-longer-than normal canines are visible. "You're lucky then! Medaka would have been better for the first, but about the second I am a real expert."

You raise the sword in the air until both it and your arm are perfectly aligned. Conveniently the sun chooses that moment to shine behind you, bathing your body in a luminescent halo.

"So, even if I am not part of the Student Council, allows I, Zenkichi, to demonstrate what you lack!"

[*]

Someone knocks on the wooden frame of the sliding door. Ordering the reformed delinquents to continue training Medaka goes to see who it is. Opening the sliding door she comes face to face with a student, green hair set above broken glasses and a face that seems to have been run over several times. In fact his entire uniform looks like it went through a war. "Good morning. How can I help you? You don't look okay. You should deliver yourself to the nurse's office at once."

"Ah, no. Thank you, but I'm fine." He weakly raises a hand with a thousand-yards stare. "My name is Hyuga Habataki, 1st year. I would like to apply for the Kendo Club."

So he is the one Shiranui told her about with her request. She wanted to take care of it after training, but it seems the request's target came to her instead. Moreover, she has the feeling the problem already resolved by itself. Marvelous. "You're more than welcome, 1st year Habataki!" She flaps her fan open. "May I inquire on your reasons to join, despite the Club not being official yet?"

"J-Just feels like it." He looks away, uncomfortable with the question. Or is it embarrassment? "I'm not doing it just because he told me to..."

How curious. Medaka feels there is quite the story behind it. Regardless, her duty now is to train the clearly enthusiastic kendo lover before her. "Very well! Take a shinai and give me ten thousand strokes basic practice!"

[*]

The Next Day

You clench and unclench your right hand. Why do you have the feeling you touched something unsightly? Usually your gut feelings aren't so vague.

That's when you notice a vase with two flowers on the table of the Student Council Room. "What's with the flowers?"

"Hm?" Medaka turns to face you, her fan opens next to her face. "This is just an incentive to fulfill my official council duties. Every time I sort out a student's problem I put a flower on display, and at the moment I've got two. Truthfully the second one partially resolved itself without my intervention, but it still was a submitted request: as such I decided its completion deserved to be celebrated with a flower."

"Oh?" You now have a curious look on your face. "So you do have such a girly side to your personality then. And what will you do if you fail one of the requests? Leave an empty vase? Kill a flower off?"

"I won't fail." She says as she stares outside the window. "Even if I do, I won't dwell on it. My dream is to one day look out over this room and seeing nothing but blooming flowers." She smiles brightly.

"Is that so? Then we need to stockpile in perennial flowers." You point out. "Still, even if it depends on the number of requests people will send you, can you manage it alone? I heard you ended up ditching the recruitment meeting." Not that you believe she would have chosen anyone who joined.

"Fine by me." Medaka glances at you. "From the beginning I never planned on working with anyone except you."

"No can do. The minimum amount of members is five. Sooner or later, you will have to match it." You remind her before cracking an eye open. "But, anyone except you? Is this what I think it is? Are you inviting me to the Student Council again?"

"Does it even need to be spelled out loud?" Medaka spreads her fan to the right, legs crossed and left arm circling above her head. Nice pose. "Once again, stand by my side Zenkichi!"

[] "Fine. Give me an armband."
[] "Sorry Medaka, I need more time to decide."
[] "The answer is still no."

Yeah, my take from canon is that Hyuga is a male tsundere masochist. Sue me.

Chapter One: 8
[X] "The answer is still no."

Stand by her side? That's fine. Helping her? That's fine.

Playing her game? No way!

"The answer...is still No!" Your legs spread open, right foot standing on its tip, while you cross your wrists over your stomach, palms facing opposite ways and with only the ring finger and pinky folded. "Even if we are friends, do you believe I will simply bow to your whims? I absolutely have no desire to be constrained and put into a pre-arranged role!"

Moreover, the council uniforms are black! You like white more! That's why you applied to Hakoniwa: they have the best white uniforms!

"Ohohohoh!!!" Medaka laughs, far from being offended or sad. On the contrary, her eyes are more lively than ever. "Truly Zenkichi, you are the only one who keep opposing me! It makes me want to recruit you even more!"

"My defiance amuses you? Interesting!" You already know about this trait of Medaka, someone who always had things easy in her life. But the answers she provides when prodded are always interesting. "Wouldn't that make you dislike me?"

"On the contrary! It is because our opinions are so different that I like you so much." Again, a hormonal and naïve teenager would misunderstand her words. Good thing you're inured to it by now. "Ever since we were two you were the one who steadfastly keep being my opponent! It's not different now. You are still the only person who stand up to me." She nods to herself. "In the case I deviate from the right path, I know you will pull me back on it without fail. It is because of the reassurance this gives me that I am able to dedicate myself to help others!"

"..Really. I, Zenkichi, am flattered!" You really are. That your efforts to show Medaka her own shortcomings are also the reason she can keep following the path she chose, because she has absolute faith you will save her...What a surprise!

Not that she is wrong.

"My answer doesn't change. But, if you need help with anything, council-related or otherwise, feel free to call me." Walking towards the exit you reach for the doorknob before suddenly turning around and pointing a Medaka, a large grin on your lips. "However! Even if I am your opponent, that doesn't mean you are my Rival yet! I'll have to see the depths of your Resolve, Kurokami Medaka! Make me acknowledge you, and I may be even willing to accept your invitation into the Council!"

"I accept your challenge!" Medaka adopts the infamous Boa Hancock's pose of [looking down on someone so much you're looking up] and takes it a step further by standing on the tips of her feet and having her back bending in a manner befitting an Indian Guru. You can see her panties. "My greatest enemy! Soon you shall join my side, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi!"

Maybe. Or...she shall join yours.

Truly! The less you can predict how the future will unfold, the more you like it!

[*]

The sky is turning crimson, the sun is giving way to the inevitable darkness that is the night and students are trickling out of the Academy to return to their homes, while some remain behind to put away their respective club's equipment.

Belonging to the first category, you walk side by side with Shiranui. She lives close enough to your house that the two of you always walk back for half of the trip. In the distance you can see many of your fangirls glaring with hate and jealousy at the small blue-haired girl, who is aware of their presence but choose to act obvious to piss them off more. "Is this really okay?" She asks you. "To not join the princess' council?"

"That's fine." You answer her. "In the first place, it would have been disappointing for both of us if I had caved in so easily."

"Ah hya hya hya!" She laughs cutely. "As I thought, what an unhealthy relationship you have!"

"Not unhealthy. Rather, I would say unconventional. This is only the beginning of our high school experience. Things are bound to change. No, they will definitely change!"

The two of you reach a bridge, the only people around an ice-cream truck where indulgent parents are buying their children sweets. Shiranui steps forward and turns around. "This is where we part ways. See you tomorrow Zenkichi."

"Goodbye Shiranui." You wave as she walks away and disappears down the road.

"Should I join the Council in your stead?"

You turn to the other short girl at your side. "Uh? No, no: it isn't necessary. Also, wouldn't that attract unnecessary attention to yourself?"

"For you, I would bear it."

"Thank you Rica, but it's truly okay: I know what I am doing."

She quietly nods, amber eyes framed by black hair in a bob-cut with an hairband looking at you with complete acceptance. Turning her eyes towards the ice-cream truck, as if seeing it only now, she trots there and enters inside through the back door. She fills a large cone with many flavors before leaving and returning to your side.

No one stopped her, or even made signs they noticed her presence and actions.

You sigh. "Rica, what did I tell you about stealing?"

"It's just an ice-cream." She replies while taking a long lick.

"Truly, what a reliable yet troublesome junior I have." You pat her head before you both cross the bridge towards your home.

Interlude 1 - The Prince of Judo
Interlude - The Prince of Judo

The freshman nervously stares at his opponent, until he decides to bite the metaphorical bullet and changes ahead. But as his fingers are close to reach their target the freshman finds himself throw above his opponent and onto the ground.

"Your form is acceptable, but you chose the wrong time." The blond boy who knocked down the freshman comments with a reassuring voice. "You need to bait me first. Rest a few minutes, and use that time to think of a strategy."

"Y-Yes! Thank you Kuoki-sempai!" The freshman expresses his gratitude before leaving the training mats.

Satisfied to have been once again a good sempai the blond junior, Akune Kuoki, walks to a table full of water bottles and drinks from one, quenching his thirst. Next to him two female members of the Judo Club are chatting.

"Hey, did you hear that rumor about our new Student Council President?"

Hidden by him facing the ceiling to facilitate the water moving down his esophagus Akune's face turns into pure bliss. Just thinking of his beloved Medaka makes his heart flutters. He yearned to help her with the Council campaign, but resolved to stay away so she could focus on the race: someone like him, after all, would only slow her down.

"You mean, that she has yet to choose new members?"

"Better yet! I heard that, beside when there's class, she constantly hangs around this freshman. Everywhere he goes she also follows!"

"No way! That's, like, stalking!"

Akune's expression sours a little. How he envies, this mysterious someone that managed to earn Medaka's attention-

"And it's not over yet! She also keeps asking him to join the council, yet he turns her down each time! It's basically a gag by now!"

He almost chokes on the water. Who is the bastard that dare to refuse Medaka's generosity?

"No way! Who is this freshman?"

"It's him! ZEN!"

Under the sleeve he is using to clean his mouth Akune sneers with anger and disgust. ZEN! That accursed nickname belongs to only one person! That worm!

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi!

He should have know: only him could possibly have the courage to reject Medaka!

It has been like that since he met them during Middle School. Akune remembers with shame his days as a violent delinquent, acting as an executioner under that person. He has been tasked to destroy Kurokami Medaka, but no matter how much he beat her she never retaliated and kept showing up for school the next day. His continued failed attempts undermined his reputation, until he was ambushed by all the people he has wronged.

It was at that time that Medaka finally attacked: not him, but the people ganging up on him. She admonished them for trying to bully someone weaker, and then told Akune that she would continue to take his beatings until he regained the heart of a good person. That was when he felt in love with Medaka: even if it was unrequited, he still pledged himself to her.

The next day after that he had the misfortune of meeting for the first time Zenkichi Hitoyoshi. Appearing out of nowhere, dressed like a stereotypical bancho and with a large number of delinquents following him, the very first thing Akune heard him saying as he strode to Medaka was berating her for looking like a mess. He asked her why she left herself getting beat up so much without reacting, and she replied that, since she had no reason to be attacked, there was also no reason for her to dodge or block. He told her that self-preservation was a perfectly valid reason to prevent harm to yourself, and that if she didn't get that to go back to being a babe and re-start her education as an human being all over again.

Before Akune's astonished eyes they kept bickering like old pals before Medaka asked who where the people following Zenkichi, as well as the reasons for his fashion sense. He answered with pride that they were his underlings, the Devil Set, and that he was going to be a bancho and rule all the schools.

Medaka then proceeded to kick him and his underlings around and dissolve the ring, chastising Zenkichi for being a delinquent.

That scene, with some variations, would repeat itself for rest of their middle school years: Zenkichi would rally people to become the shadow ruler of all the schools in the district and Medaka would beat him and his forces.

No matter how much Medaka tried to reform him that guy, just like the worm and cockroach he was, just. Wouldn't. Admit defeat!

Even now he keeps rejecting her!

He, Akune Kuoki, hates Zenkichi Hitoyoshi so much!

"Akune-kun." The grinning, close-eyed visage of Nekomi Nabeshima, the Judo Club's Captain, pops into his field of vision. "What could you possibly thinking about to have such an expression?"

"Nothing worth mentioning." Akune smiles, once again hiding the worst part of himself. "Just an unsightly worm."

Chapter Two: 1
[X] Start of Chapter Two

One Week Later

Like every morning you stand before the floor mirror, making sure than your appearance is nothing short of perfect.

First, the sweater. Sky blue with gold trims, it has multicolor dragonfly wings designs around the collar, an opening below the neck in the form of a inverted five pointed star that shows your chest and, above the lower hem, a series of golden, tribal dragonfly symbols. More golden tribal lines illustrating dragonflies are depicted on the rest of its surface, giving the impression of a swarm ready to attack.

Over it the Hakoniwa Academy's male uniform, a white jacket with blue and gold trims. You ditched the red tie and keep the jacket open. Around the collar you put the same multicolor dragonfly wings designs of the sweater, and on the lower hem a series of stylized golden dragonflies.

With the white pants and the blue shoes on, the ensemble is completed by dragonfly brooches put on each side of your chest, below the school symbols on both shoulders and on your shoes.

"So that's why narcissism is a thing." You grin, trying a few poses for all occasions before leaving for school.

On the way there you receive a message from Medaka, saying that she has a request that may need your expertise.

A request that was not undertaken anonymously.

[*]

Inside the Student Council Room you stand next to Medaka while she drinks tea seated on an expensive looking chair. On the other side of the table and sitting on a simple rolling chair is a girl wearing the Athletics Club uniform under a windbreaker, with dark brown eyes and brown hair done up in two ponytails with green hairbands.

Her name is Aria Ariake, 2nd year from Class 9. Technically she's your upper-classman, but due to the difference in height it's hard for you to treat her as such.

"Erm...sorry." She begins. "To tell you the truth I didn't really think that this was something I should be talking to 1st years about."

A single year of difference isn't really much in your opinion.

"But after hearing from a friend about the Kendo Hall incident..."

"Don't ever think about it. Go ahead." Medaka's response is that of a queen magnanimously forgiving a courier arriving while she was busy while also giving an order to show the proper social hierarchy. "I will take requests from anyone!"

Ariake is unsurprisingly put off by your friend's attitude, and from time to time she also steals furtive glances at you. You flash her a reassuring smile to make her relax, and are rewarded with a fierce blush. Damn, you acquired another fangirl!

"The thing I've come to you about...is this." She eventually says, putting a carton box on the desk and taking out a pair of sprinting shoes that were ruined by cutting them apart and a letter made with cut-out letters that say: [quit the athletics club].

So, bullying. And of the cowardly type.

"...Horrific." Medaka declares while staring at both objects. Looking at Ariake she silently commands her to explain.

"I was chosen to represent the school in the sprint event at the next competition. I was really happy since it's pretty rare that a second year gets chosen to represent the school." So, either the third years in the Athletics Club aren't much, are absent or Ariake has a better time than any of them. By a logical standpoint, choosing the one who can perform better is the right choice. "But, one week ago I found my running shoes in this state."

Sadly, not everyone think logically. "Do you have any suspects in mind?" You ask her while staring at the incriminating items. Already you can see hints that point to a possible culprit.

"I don't know." She shakes her head. "My shoes were just left in the changing room. Anyone could have done it. Actually..." She clenches her hands. "I don't trust any of them! It's traditional that the competition for a regular place on the team here at Hakoniwa Academy is rough, it's probably normal to be treated with a little hostility after being chosen for a place, right?"

Of course it's perfectly normal. Such are the perils of proving yourself better than someone else. While there are some that don't feel that way, maybe due to honor or a forgiving attitude, there will always be at least one person feeling resentment.

"That's why I was ready for something to happen. But this...I never thought anyone would go this far." Actually, as bullying goes this is more common that one would think.

"By the look of it I'd say you've cherished those shoes for quite some time now." Medaka observes. "And with them in this sort of state I'm guessing you can't train, am I right?"

Ariake nods. "For the moment I have to use trainers. I can't talk with the coach about this: I'm worried that students who are under this sort of stress might be taken off the team."

Hey now, no need to diss the Hakoniwa teachers: those you know about are all quite good at their jobs. However, openly bringing up this sort of problem may truly cause unwanted effects.

"But most of all I can't bring myself to practice with the people who probably were the ones who did this to me!" Ariake is on the verge of crying. "Everyone's a suspect! I can't trust anyone! I'm so upset I can't even sleep at night!"

[] "Please don't worry Ariake-sempai! We will solve this case and bring you back peace of mind!"
[] "How can I say it, the sport clubs are less wholesome than I expected. But we can still help you."
[] "If this is enough to shake you this much, then maybe you should really quit the club."
[] "...Troublesome."
[] "..." Remain silent.
[] "This is what they call the law of nature."
[] "Is there really someone who would do this? That's fucked up!"
[] "I swear! I will give whoever did this a lesson they'll never forget!"
[] "So they admit trash into sport clubs now. Disappointing."
[] Write-in.

Chapter Two: 2
[X] Plan NSMS

[I'm so upset I can't even sleep at night]? You won't make fun of bullying and the effects it has on people. To be targeted with ill intent because you're perceived as weak, or because someone cannot accept you earned something with your own efforts...No, there is nothing to make fun of.

But if she truly is upset...why is she here begging for help?!

"Worry not, 2nd year Ariake!" Medaka puts down the cup and stands up. "Tonight will be your last sleepless night. I, Medaka Kurokami-" She slips out her fan from her sleeve and points it at the brown-haired girl. "-Will expose the criminal today!"

"Today?!" Ariake repeats in disbelief.

No, if it's Medaka it can be done. The problem is- "Is that really the best solution?"

They both turn to stare at you.

"I can tell you this Ariake-sempai: both Medaka and myself can solve this case for you. You have no need to fear otherwise. Instead, let me tell you the question you should be asking." Your eyes narrow. "Should Medaka or I solve this for you?"

Ariake is confused, while Medaka simply covers her mouth with her fan. "In response to a Suggestion Box request it is my duty as the President to put the Council into action. However Zenkichi, I believe you have your reasons to say that. Enlighten us."

"I say this not out harshness, laziness or a desire to avoid work,-" You tell Ariake to clear any possible misunderstandings. "-but because of one simple truth: so long as you continue on your course, this situation will happen again. Perhaps not this week, this month, or even this year, but unless truly drastic measures are taken by us... it will reoccur. And when it does... what will you do? Fall to stress, unable to help yourself as you're forced to turn to us for aid again and again?"

You can see your words are having an effect on her. By her introduction it's clear she was, at least initially, reluctant to ask the Council for help. Whatever the reason is, hesitation or pride, the thought of relying on us constantly doesn't sit well with her. Good.

"So I ask of you, to make your request again after asking yourself one simple question: what is it that you truly want here?" You hold out your right hand to her, palm open and fingers pointing down. "For us to solve your problem for you and condemn you to a life of dependency,-" You clench your hand into a fist. "-for us to solve your problem so thoroughly that it will never reoccur..." Spreading your legs you raise your arm in the air and open your hand. "-or for us to give you the tools you need to solve this problem yourself?"

Ariake gasps as the weight-no, the truth of your words hit her. In her eyes you can see a previously smothering ember swelling as if someone blew air on it. By contrast Medaka's own pupils are a roaring inferno: as expected of your opponent, she already understood.

"By coming here in person and not merely making an anonymous request I believe you've shown the courage needed to rise above the trash in this school and your club..." You tell her in approval before lowing your right hand and putting the other into your pocket. "But of course, that is only what I see. The only one who can prove me right or wrong..." You point at her. "Is you!"

"...I..." Ariake weakly begins, as if there are thorns in her throat.

"I...!" Her muscles tenses as she fights against her own body's limitations. A flash of irritation passes on her features.

"I DO NOT WANT TO FEEL SO HELPLESS!!!" She finally shouts loudly. She is biting her own lips, and even as tears are forming on the edges of her eyes she puts her hands on her legs almost possessively. "I joined the Athletics Club because I like running! I trained hard because I thought it was not enough to merely have fun, I must also do my best! I was so happy when they chose me, it was more than I ever hoped. The coach told me, that I earned it fair and square! But then this happened. And I...I crumbled!" She frantically shackles her head. "But I don't want to! I don't want to toss away all I worked so hard for just because someone is mean to me! If I were to be that shallow...I wouldn't be able to live with myself!"

Now there is it...the burning resolve that lift humans above their own failings!

"While Zenkichi's words were somewhat harsh..." Medaka begins while going through the poses of the Ginyu Force. "They weren't wrong! To go beyond merely solving your request and help you grown as an individual...Beautiful!" She says so while grinning like a shark, so the impression is somewhat contradictory. Still, you believe Ariake-sempai understands Medaka's feelings. "2nd year Ariake, let me ask you again: what is your request to the Student Council?"

She takes a deep breath before jumping back on her feet. The message is clear: those legs she is so proud of...can support the individual know as Aria Ariake! "PLEASE MAKE ME ABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BY MYSELF!"

"I ACCEPT YOUR REQUEST!!" Medaka shouts back. "The one to find the culprit...shall be you!"

"M-me?!"

"With a little help of course." You gesture to Medaka to come close. "Medaka, brainstorming time."

You and Medaka huddle in a corner and begin whispering outside of Ariake's hearing. It takes a lot of gesturing, counter-arguments and random objects pulled out from your respective uniforms before the two of you have something resembling a plan.

"Do you read Detective Conan?" You ask Ariake.

"Eh? I watch the anime, but-"

"Good enough." You make her sit down back on the chair and put a magnifying glass in her hands. Then you and Medaka both sit down on the other side of the desk. "Do as he does and find the hints that lead to the culprit." You finally gesture to the shoes and the letter.

"Eeeeh?! I'm a sprint specialist, not a genius detective!"

"Nobody is asking you to be one. Just use your own experience as a member of the Athletics Club." You tap the table. "As unpleasant as it may be, try to think like the culprit, and what you would do if you were them."

"...Alright, I will try." She gulps before starting with what she is more familiar with: her shoes. After a few minutes of looking at them with and without the glass she begins to slowly say: "I...haven't really noticed before, but cutting them shouldn't have been easy. Especially with scissors. But the cuts...they have been made exactly along the seams. I know, because I used those shoes for a long time."

"Correct." Medaka nods. "What does it mean?"

"Is...the culprit a methodical person?" Ariake makes an attempt, but your childhood friend remains silent. Ariake frowns, forcing her brain to work through the unfamiliar field. "Or...or...or they know those shoes just as well as I did. Well not my shoes but-" Her eyes widen. "Someone who use the same brand!"

"Very good." You scribble on a paper and show it to Ariake:

Reasonable (Not Certain) Facts About The Culprit:

-Female Athletics Club member (since boys cannot enter the girls changing room)
-Sprint specialist (one of those that failed to get your place)
-Owns your own brand of running shoes and used them just as long as you or more.

"I would add that the culprit cherishes this brand of shoes just as much as 2nd year Ariake." Medaka comments.

"Uh? But look at what they did." Ariake protests.

"Odd thought it might sound, look at the brand logo." One elegant and slender finger points at it. "No one mark was made on it. Even if subconsciously, the culprit put limits on how much they were willing to ruin those shoes, limits that can only be born out of respect."

"Moreover, look at the cuts." You continue. "Don't you think they can tell you more? Try to imagine yourself cutting your shoes like the culprit did."

Ariake is clearly uncomfortable with the thought but still comply. After a few minutes her eyes shoot open. "Lead me paper and a pair of scissors please!"

Grinning you give her the items you already prepared beforehand. She cuts the paper in various ways before confronting them with the shoes. "The culprit is left-handed! Using the right hand the cuts bend to the left, while when using the left hand they bend to the right! I know because my father is left-handed!"

Reasonable (Not Certain) Facts About The Culprit:

-Female Athletics Club member (since boys cannot enter the girls changing room)
-Sprint specialist (one of those that failed to get your place)
-Owns your own brand of running shoes and used them just as long as you or more. Also cherish them.
-Is left-handed.

"Now let's move to the letter." Medaka says. "What do you think of it?"

"The letter?" Ariake blinks. "Well...the paper seems pretty common, and the cut-out letters were just randomly taken."

Time for a hint it seems. You fan yourself. "My, Medaka, don't you think the lights in this room are too strong? They're so penetrating, I feel as if I can see my own limbs through my clothes!"

"Do you? It could be: the light bulbs have been there since the time of the last President." She replies while starting to take off her clothes, forcing you to physically stop her.

Ariake is understandably freaked out, but seems to finally get the message after you repeatedly look between the letter and the ceiling lights while putting back the clothes Medaka is still trying to remove.

"Ah! Wait, I think I recognize the style." She exclaims after looking at the parts of articles written on the letters' backs, visible under the light. "They're from Fuguruma newspaper. Ah, but a lot of people read it..."

"It is unreasonable to expect you to find the last two hints, so I'll make an exception." Medaka says while keeping you in an arm lock. "They were taken at random from a week's worth of Fuguruma newspapers. The culprit didn't buy the newspaper just to make that letter, they probably used newspapers that were lying around the home. Furthermore, they are all from the 14th edition that is delivered only on Block 23."

"H-How do you know that?" Ariake gasps in awe.

"I read and remember every article in every newspaper!" She bombastically proclaims.

"So that's it." You remove yourself from the arm lock and write for the last time on the paper:

Reasonable (Not Certain) Facts About The Culprit:

-Female Athletics Club member (since boys cannot enter the girls changing room).
-Sprint specialist (one of those that failed to get your place).
-Owns your own brand of running shoes and used them just as long as you or more. Also cherish them.
-Is left-handed.

"This however is not hard evidence, merely circumstantial." You sigh. "With it you cannot accuse anyone. Unless, of course, you manage to get a confession. Knowing that, what are you going to do?"

"I..." She nods resolutely. "I want to talk to the girls who fit those criteria! I want to face my fears head on...and ask the culprit why did she do such a terrible thing!"

Chapter Two: 3
[X] Just provide some hints to point her in the right direction.

"Good answer!" You reply. This girl, Aria Ariake, is striving to evolve! To change herself to go above her flaws! Such determination...deserves a small reward. Rather, a nudge in the right direction.

"Give me some time." You move to the other corner of the room and dial a number. "Shiranui? I need the personal info of a certain group of students-no, I'm not planning anything unspeakable. No, you cannot use this to blackmail me, no matter how you spin it. Yes, I'll buy you an appropriate amount of food."

Truly! Who ever heard of an information broker that request fried chicken and ramen as payment?!

"Separate lists of-" You tell her, and in less than two minutes she has everything. You write everything down. "See you later for the reward." You end the call and return to the girls' side. For some reason Medaka looks a tad upset. She probably wanted to do the digging herself. "Here." You give Ariake two lists. "One has the members of the Athletics Club that live in the 23 Block, the other those who have a subscription to Fuguruma newspaper. With those, the others clues and your own observation skills you should be able to find the culprit. It doesn't need to be said that, once done, those lists need to go."

"Y-Yes! Thank you!" She hugs the papers close to her chest before bowing deeply. "To both of you! I-I will go now!" And with that she bolts out of the room.

"Let's follow her Zenkichi." Medaka says, right hand on her left biceps.

"You took the words out of my mouth Medaka." You reply, right index and middle fingers under your left eye.

[*]

The two of you follow Ariake from the shadows, always keeping out of sight. Medaka can pass for a Ninja straight out of the Edo period, while you have mastered the art of operating outside other people's perception.

The brown-haired girl goes to the track field, and quietly begins to observe the other members as they train. In truth there is a single girl that fit all the criteria, and to your great satisfaction Ariake soon finds her.

"Isahaya-sempai." Ariake calls out to the other girl while she is drinking from the fountain.

Isagi Isahaya, a girl with dark green eye and black hair wearing the Athletics Club uniform, slowly turns around. "What is it Aria-!" She suddenly stops, eyes widening when she finally notices the ruined shoes Ariake is holding in her hands.

"Isahaya-sempai." Ariake repeats, eyes staring straight into those of the other girl. "Were you the one that did this?"

Faced with such an accusation panicking is the worst thing one could do. Unfortunately for her, Isahaya is an impulsive girl. "I-I don't know anything!" She shouts before sprinting away.

Ariake stares dumbfounded for a few seconds before a look of determination settles onto her features. Holding one shoe in each hand she begins to chase after her fleeing sempai. Maybe it's because they associate that place to running, but both of the keep making circles around the track field. Ariake, even if she started with a delay, soon comes close to Isahaya. "Isahaya-sempai! Please stop!"

"No way?!" The black-haired girl exclaims. "But I can run 100 meters in 12 seconds flat!"

"An excellent time sempai!" Ariake shoots back. "But mine...is 100 meters in 11 seconds flat!"

With a final sprint she surpasses Isahaya. She looks behind her shoulders, only to slow down and finally stop when she sees that the other girl has stopped before her and is kneeling, a look of defeat on her face.

"Ah...ahaha." She laughs bitterly. "Ariake, you...are really better than me." She hangs her head down. "I confess! I was the one who ruined your shoes! Go on and have me kicked out of the club, I deserve it."

"Wha-! No way, that's too harsh!" Ariake shakes her head while moving in front of the other girl. "I just want to know...why you did it."

"...I was jealous. Are you satisfied? I'm saying I was jealous!" Isahaya punches the ground. "I trained for three years with the hope to one day becoming a regular. But then! The coach gave the place to a girl who trained only two thirds of what I did! And you know what's the most embarrassing thing?"

Ariake stays silent.

"He was right." Isahaya finally admits. Her body slumps, as if a great weight was removed. "You're faster than me Ariake. If you keep training you can get even faster, I'm sure of it. It was just me, me and my stupid and ugly jealously!" She throws her head back, revealing she is crying. "So do it! Punish-"

The brown-haired girl goes down on one knee and hugs the other girl.

"Me....Eh?" Isahaya's eyes widen, her mind unable to understand what's happening.

"It hurts, doesn't it?" Ariake says with her eyes closed, a small smile on her lips. "You were second-guessing yourself even while doing it, and afterwards the regret just kept growing stronger and stronger."

"W-What do you know? How can you say something like that with such surety?!"

"You have dark rings under your eyes and your skin is pale. Since that day you cannot sleep well, and only a few hours per night." Isahaya tenses in Ariake's embrace. "I know, because I see the same thing every time I look into a mirror. I think...only a bad person would be able to sleep serenely after doing something like that."

"A-Ariake..." Isahaya's lips are trembling. "Uuh..."

"I forgive you Isahaya-sempai."

"Uuwaaaahh!!" And with that Isagi Isahata begins to cry. It takes a while before she stops.

"Such passion! Such Generosity!" In that moment Medaka and yourself burst out from where you were hiding underground. Medaka has the left hand in front of her face, her eyes visible in the spaces between fingers, while the right shoulder is slightly higher than the left one. On her right side you are showing your left side, right foot standing on a piece of rubble you prepared beforehand and put into place during the exit, left fist raised next to your face. "2nd Year Ariake! I really like your forgiving heart!"

"Who the hell are you people?!" Isahaya screams, aghast at the display. Ariake has a slightly less surprised but similar expression.

"98th Student Council president of Hakoniwa Academy! Medaka Kurokami!"

"1st year, Class 1 of Hakoniwa Academy! Zenkichi Hitoyoshi!"

""LET US CONGRATULATE THE BOTH OF YOU FOR OBTAINING THE HAPPY END YOU DESERVE!!""

Isahaya screams louder. Ariake is laughing nervously with an empty stare.

[*]

"Truly! Why are some people seemly unable to appreciate a properly dramatic entrance?" You shake your head. "After we went through the trouble of matching their pathos."

"On the contrary Zenkichi!" Medaka flaps her fan. "Haven't you see how quickly they went back to training? If they keep pushing themselves so hard, they'll break their personal records in no time. And the way 2nd year Ariake and 3rd year Isahaya held hands...their friendship has blossomed!"

Or they were running away in fright. But you'll keep that to yourself. "By the way Medaka."

"Mh?"

"Why did you ask for my help before even knowing what the request was about?"

"Uhm..." Medaka taps the fan on her lips, staring with a gentle expression at the sky. "It's because 2nd year Ariake came to the Council in person."

You raise an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"It takes courage to show up in person to ask for help when the possibility to remain anonymous exists. Courage, and willpower." She explains, looking at you with a smile. "I know you like people with those traits Zenkichi. That's why I believed that, together, we could help 2nd year Ariake better than I could do alone. I was right."

"You know me well Medaka." You grin. "Bullying is an activity for trash...but I don't believe Isahaya-sempai is trash. Their ordeal made the both of them stronger, I recognize it."

You may not have the limitless faith in humanity Medaka has. But those that struggle and never give up, no matter the obstacles, will always have your respect.

"And it was possible because of your viewpoint. I suppose I should express some sort of gratitude." Medaka suddenly throws herself at you, giving you a tight and tender hug. "Thank you!"

Medaka's second Special Skill: the [Strict Girl/Cute Girl Switch].

"You really should." You reply with an huff and a smile while patting her head. Really now, why does your childhood friend act so cutely only when it suits her better?

[*]

A Few Days Later

"So you need my help again?" You ask while reading the request. What a childish-rather, what a girlish drawing. "A request to search for...a lost puppy? Oh." You immediately understand. "Don't worry Medaka, I'll take care of it."

"Thank you Zenkichi." She wistfully looks out of the window. "You know I have never been good with animals."

That's the understatement of the century.

Let's be clear here. Medaka doesn't hate animals: rather, she loves them. But with her overwhelming strength animals, who know nothing of personality, mistake her for a super-apex predator. From the class bunny of primary school to the zoo animals during a trip, there are never been a beast who dare to show up in front of Medaka. It really depresses her.

You can sympathize, since you have a similar problem. Unless it's him, but he is an ass that even Medaka wouldn't probably be able to like.

"Heeeh, I'm surprised! To think that the invincible super princess actually has a weak spot." Shiranui later comments after you explained the problem.

"What can I say, even for her something exists that she cannot do flawlessly." Unless she trains the animals into being used to her presence. Uhm, that could actually work if you go through it slowly. 'I will propose it to Medaka later on.' "So Shiranui, you said you have an idea where the puppy is?"

"I mean, I heard someone saying something about a dog living on campus somewhere." She leads you behind one of the buildings, where trees and bushes were made grow naturally. "Should be, somewhere around-there it is!"

A borzoi. Who the fuck lose in a city a dog that the Russians originally used to hunt wolves? It's a miracle it hasn't killed anyone yet.

"This is the dog right? It matches the drawing and everything, right?" Shiranui asks excitedly.

"Yes, it matches the drawing...if you add a decade of training under Raoh." You deadpan.

[] Approach it, you should be able to make it behave.

Chapter Two: 4
[X] Approach it, you should be able to make it behave.

A dog, even if strengthened by vagabond life, remains just a dog. Its advantages can still be dealt with, especially considering your own problem with animals. "Oh well, I made a promise and I intend to fulfill it." You look at the butterfly net you brought along before shaking your head and putting it down. "Ready Shiranui? We're going to tame that dog!"

"What!? Me? Now way! Why would I?" Shiranui waves her hand in complete denial. "I just wanted to hang back and watch my friend get mauled from a safe distance."

"If that is how you treat your friends, I am almost afraid to see what you do with your enemies." You deadpan. "This is revenge for making you kiss Medaka, isn't it?"

"Whatever you're talking about?" She replies with a clueless tone. "Look, I'll even snap some shots of you being brave."

"...As you wish." You smirk before turning around. While you and her were discussing the dog has opened his eyes, and now has entered a staring contest with you.

Without looking away or blinking you take a step forward, and the dog tenses. Another two steps cause the dog to stand up on its paws, fangs bared and growling. As you begin to take the fourth step the dog bring a paw forward.

You bare your own teeth, exposing your slightly-longer canines. The dog doesn't make another movement even as you finish the fourth step, unblinking eyes staring back at your own. The following seconds are full of twitches and subtle movements as the two of you communicate using the body language of the animal kingdom.

Finally you make a big movement: you reach forward with a hand, palm pointed above. The dog moves close to you-

And puts his paw on top of your hand, his posture evoking that of a soldier waiting for orders.

Yep. If animals see Medaka as a super-apex predator they have to run away from, in your case they see you as the [Alpha] to which they owe obedience, different species be damned. Because of that you could never get them to play with you in the past. You even tried to order them to approach Medaka, but they fainted halfway.

"Is this brave enough Shiranui?" You ask with an angelic, completely false smile to your friend.

"Less blood than I expected, but they're still good!" She replies between clicks of her phone. "I'll call it [The Dog King, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi: the Collection]!"

'Ohi ohi, what's with that title that is halfway to being an insult?' You sweatdrop. That Shiranui, she keeps exceeding your expectations. Not that isn't a good thing.

Shaking your head you take out from your pocket the photo of Urushi Akizuki, the dog's owner, and shows it to the dog. "Remember her? You have to go back to her side."

The dog barks in instant acceptance.

[*]

"And that's what happened." You finish your report. "Shiranui and I successfully returned the borzoi to his owner, though Akizuki-sempai remarked the dog became strangely fond of me. She also offered confectionary items she made herself: Shiranui ate all of them."

"Good work." Medaka replies with a huff. "However, seeing you get along so well with that Shiranui girl is a little unsettling."

"Really? You aren't the first one to say that." You stroke your chin. "If you ask me...it's because, in some aspects, she reminds me of you when we were kids."

"What are you saying Zenkichi. We are nothing alike!" She looks away and snorts, fan open in front of her face.

Is this what they call [opposite attract, likes repel]? It's pretty rare after all for Medaka to openly dislike someone.

[*]

The Next Day

"Taekwondo Club: done yesterday." You cross the name off the list while having lunch. "I've done most of the competitive fighting clubs. Now I want to try the competitive sports clubs."

"Why are you throwing yourself left and right so much as a temp?" Hyuga asks. After that little incident he has taken to hang around you and Shiranui. "Do you really like sports that much?"

"Three reasons: it helps me spend the time, it's good experience and I like to sweat at least five liters per day." Manga and games are fun, but daytime is made for physical activities. "Oh, there's a Lacrosse Club. I've always wanted to try it."

Shiranui makes a loud slurping noise while she raises her face from within the ramen bowl. "Aaahh! Gotch, gotcha! I made a rule to drink at least 5 liters of ramen per day too!"

"Use a napkin." You tell her while handing over one. "Also, ramen isn't a beverage."

"It isn't ? Sometimes Caesar Salads taste like vegetable juice to me."

That just means her taste buds have a problem, or that the problem is with whoever make the salads.

"Well, I understand that if you don't keep up with that beast's demands-"

"Who's the beast?" You ask with a completely flat tone, empty eyes staring at Hyuga.

"I-I-I mean, I understand that keeping up with Kurokami-sama is hard!" Hyuga stammers while sweating like crazy. "But if I may, I still think you should quit. You've quite the legend now: they call you the [Club Typhoon]."

"Do they now? Man, what a lame nickname." You huff, back to normal. "I don't mind making a name for myself, but this isn't exactly how I expected it."

"So you want to make a name for yourself then? Hitoyoshi-kun?" Says a familiar voice from your side. Looking up you see a tall and scary-looking student with spiky, very dark green hair, pointed teeth and a small scar beneath his right eye. The, so to speak, main rival of Medaka during the Student Council President's election: Hisshuu Kanoya.

He's also a scumbag that gathered votes by threatening people, so Medaka beat him to a pulp. "...Can I help you, Kanoya-sempai?"

"Come and talk with me for a bit, Hitoyoshi-kun. I need your advice on something."

"...Why not?" You put down your pen. "I was done eating anyway."

[*]

"Kurokami Medaka Attack Plan?" You repeat Kanoya's words after the two of you relocate on the school's rooftop.

"Yeah. I'm trying to gather some brave men." He says without even looking at you, busy cutting his nails. "Do you wanna join us too, Hitoyoshi-kun?"

[] "I would never join such a dastardly initiative!"
[] "That's a pretty poor joke."
[] Smirk. "Why should I join the loser's side?"
[] Glare. "You have guts, wasting my time like this."
[] "I would prefer not breaking the school's rules."
[] "I couldn't care less about your goals, Kanoya."
[] "I may not be a strict follower of the rules, but I'm no delinquent!"
[] Laugh. "You're going to get your ass kicked again!"

Chapter Two: 5
[X] "When I want to challenge Medaka I don't bring trash along.
-[X] "I'll record our next semi-annual fight so you can see how outclassed you are in more detail than the beating you're going to get will show you. You might end up being fatally foolish if I gave you the date to come watch in person."

What was the appropriate reaction to this kind of offer? Oh yes, this one: "When I want to challenge Medaka I don't bring trash along." Kanoya's face twitches into a snarl for a moment, the motion making him cut a nail irregularly. Your grin is wide, dripping condescension from every single square centimeter. "But because I am a nice person I'll record our next semi-annual fight so you can see how outclassed you are in more details than the beating you're going to get will show you. You might end up being fatally foolish if I gave you the date to come watch in person."

Those are always fun: you've yet to win even once, but they allow both you and Medaka to grow immensely and devise new tactics for the next one. The only downside is that every time the battlefield gets wrecked: only a few places have yet to banish you two for life.

"Tch! I'm not the one who's foolish." Kanoya smirks, though you can still see traces of irritation. "You are not a member of the Student Council yet you act like one. By how I see it, you're just that beast gi-"

"Her name is Medaka Kurokami." You glare, your smirk turning into a snarl. The only reason you allow Shiranui to use the word [beast] when referring to Medaka is because you know she's using it in jest. But in the mouth of guys like the one in front of you it's revolting.

"See? That's what I thought: you're stressed as fuck." But of course Kanoya ends up missing the point. "The whole [Club Typhoon] is your way to blow off steam, am I right? Getting dragged around and used as she sees fit, all unrewarded. Even you've got to be sick of it by now."

It's almost funny how he's wrong on basically all accounts. You could correct him, but you want to see where he's going.

Kanoya finishes to cut off the last nail before standing up from his seated position. "If so follow me!" He declares. "I'm going to bring that girl down by force and take her place as president! It's time for the repressed to overthrown the oppressor by force!"

"Say the one who threatened girls into voting for you." You snicker. "You reap what you sow man."

"Wha! But I didn't hit any of the nice girls, Hitoyoshi-kun!" Yes, but that's only because Medaka beat him first. "I'm gonna take good care of you. I hate to see someone like you waste away in someone's else shadow. I bet even you have something you wanna do, right?"

'Of course there is something I want to do.' You think. 'But Kanoya, you're sorely mistaken if you believe you can help me reach it.'

"Today, after class there's a tactics meeting. You've got until then to make up your mind. After all, that woman does not give a damn about those who go against her." And with those words he walks away.

You wait until he's out of sight before sighing. "Pretty troublesome, don't you agree Medaka?"

"No, there is nothing troublesome about it." Your childhood friend replies from behind you, where she's copying your pose. She has been there from the beginning. "Rather, it seems to be an exciting development."

"Exciting? It's just Kanoya and his usual goons. Even if they use weapons their danger level amount to next to nothing." You scoff.

"No matter. From the beginning I didn't expect to be loved by the people."

Medaka assumes the pose of the [White Precure] from the first series. Even you saw some episodes of it, though you prefer Tokusatsu shows.

"As long as I love people, that's all that matters!"

Well, she wouldn't be Medaka if not being loved back is enough to trouble her.

"I don't want you unnecessarily intruding Zenkichi. I will handle this case personally." Her face morphs into what many would call a villainous look. "Stomping rebellions is the responsibility of kings!"

"True, true." You agree with her. While watching Medaka walks away with a spring in her steps you reflect that, while she may love people as a whole, she loves her enemies even more. Being her first and best one you understand it perfectly.

Having a 98% approval rating is nice to hear...but in her mind she only focuses on the remaining 2%. It shows there are those that actively didn't support Medaka, not to mention those that didn't vote at all. However, even if they are factions rebelling or threatening violence, Medaka still accepts everyone with open arms.

Even if you don't agree with her there is no need for you to interfere. Your childhood friend can take care of herself.

Still. Rather than necessity, haven't you always acted how you wanted to act?

Chapter Two: 6
[X] Leave them to Medaka.
-[X] Get popcorn.

Kanoya and his goons are definitely not something worth getting excited over. Truly, the only opponent that should evoke such a reaction should be you.

"Be grateful trash: Medaka is compassionate enough to treat even people like you seriously." You roll your eyes before also leaving the rooftop, your internal clock telling you lunch break is almost over. "At least make your defeat an amusing spectacle to behold." You take another few steps before stopping, one hand on your chin. "Uhm..."

[*]

"Zenkichi. Didn't I say I don't want you unnecessarily intruding?" Medaka asks you with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm not intruding." You raise the bowl of popcorn. "I'm here to enjoy the show."

"I see." She smiles, fan snapping close. "In that case you can stay!"

"Much obligated." Then you look at the sign Medaka put on the wall and suppress a snicker. Like you said Medaka has no business in comedy, but sometimes she unintentionally creates masterpieces: case in point, the sign that can be translated both as [Junior Welcoming Party] and [Retainers Removing Their Lord]. She also prepared a refreshment for them.

After a while the door slams open, revealing Kanoya at the head of nine other guys, all of them wielding delinquent weapons like iron rods and bats full of nails. "Hitoyoshi!" He snarls. "So you have decided to defy me!"

"You mean, you were expecting something different?" You deadpan while popping some popcorn into your mouth.

"Welcome respectable Juniors and fellow Freshmen!" Medaka proclaims, using her first Special Skill: the [Preaching To The Lesser Mortals]. With it her larger-than-life presence skyrockets, giving the onlookers the illusion Medaka is a Buddha delivering divine wisdom. "I have prepared sweets, sushi and many types of drinks, all of them non alcoholic of course."

While the goons look confused Kanoya gives a cursory glance around, fury mounting at what he likely perceives as deliberate mocking. "Kurokami Medaka!" He roars while jumping forwards, bat raised above his head. "I've come to take back the seat of President you stole from me!"

'First step: stun them.'

Before the bat could reach Medaka she stops it. By holding one of the nail's heads between two chopsticks.

'Second step: give a speech about salvation.'

"What a shame..." Medaka begins, effortlessly holding in place the bat even as if she shift into a pose that shouldn't allow that kind of leverage. Kanoya tries to pull it back, but it's like trying to move an elephant. "It is rather clear that once you were innocent boys as pure as angels. However you were not blessed with love and good fortune, leading to you walking the path of violence until today."

"What the fuck are you doing?!" Kanoya roars to the still stunned goons. "Attack her!"

"Don't worry!" Medaka's look of serene understanding shifts to something every shark in the world would be proud of. "In order to prevent you from doing evil ever again, I will transform you into allies of justice!"

"What the hell are you trying to pull here?!" Kanoya lets go of the bat and swings his fists, just as the others change ahead.

'Third step: righteous application of violence.'

"ORA!" Medaka cries as she delivers a barrage of rapid-fire punches, eyes white and mouth open into a maniac smile. "ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA!!!!!"

You eat more popcorn.

Later on Kanoya and his goons didn't become allies of justice, but nonetheless stopped with the delinquent activities.

[*]

One Week Later

"Zenkichi!" Medaka greets you in her underwears, the only other article of clothing on her person the open upper judo uniform. "We're going to the Judo Club today."

"A naked Medaka. My usual morning is thus complete." You comment with a casual tone while closing the door. "The Judo Club? What do they need?"

"Are you familiar with the club's captain, 3rd year Nabeshima?" She hands you a piece of paper. "There is a request from her in the suggestion box."

"Nekomi Nabeshima? Yeah, I know her." You take the paper and start to read. "She asked me a few times to join the Judo Club, but I refused." She is also known as the [Queen of Foul Play] of the Judo world, due to her habit to use basically all possible not-prohibited tricks to win against her opponents.

"Even though she's the captain she'll be retiring soon, so she wants me to help her appoint a successor."

"I see." It's not so rare, for a captain to pass the torch well before graduation. "And I come into play, how?"

"I thought it a good occasion to see a familiar face."

Familiar face? Oh, that guy. You've rather not see him at all, but you also don't really feel like leaving Medaka alone with him.

[*]

"Well well! Welcome!" Nabeshima greets Medaka with a cheerful smile. She is a girl with light green hair and purple eyes: even if she is a senior she's not very tall. "I'm the one who sent the request. I'm the captain of the Judo Club, Nabeshima Nekomi. Thanks for coming today!"

"I'm Kurokami from the Student Council." Medaka shakes Nabeshima's hand. "I'll do everything I can to help you today."

"Yup yup! I'm counting on you Kurokami-san!"

While they chat you lean on the wall and cross your arms. You doubt you need to interfere, unless-

"Oh, right! Before that there is someone I want to introduce you to." Nabeshima looks at one door. "Akune! hey Akune!"

Yeah, unless that guy is here too.

The door opens and from it walks out a tall boy with shoulder-length blond hair and yellow eyes. Giving off a [prince charming] aura he walks in front of Medaka and kneels down. "My apologies for being out of touch for so long Medaka-san. I've been waiting, hoping you haven't forgotten me because of the duties of your new position. I have been eagerly awaiting our reunion."

'Ladies and gentlemen, meet Akune Kouki.' You deadpan in your mind. There is no shortage of people infatuated with Medaka of both genders, but this guy definitely deserves the title of [most creepy one].

"...Stop your formal act, 2nd year Akune. I can tell from the other members: it's obvious someone like you arranged this act beforehand." Medaka remarks with a no-nonsense tone.

"Not at all." The lie flows like water from Akune's mouth. "I simply didn't want to embarrass myself by acting too proud. It's thanks to you that I am the way I am today."

'Unfortunately so, he's right.'

Medaka grabs his head and pulls it up, forcing Akune to look at her. "If you want to thank me then don't bow your head!" She commands. "Do it proudly, sticking your chest out!"

"Y-Yes ma'am!" Akune replies with the blissful face of a little girl who received a compliment from her first crush. "I'll do as you say!"

Dignity just got murdered, robbed and tossed in a well before a cat crapped into it.

"Whoops, sorry!" Medaka turns around, hopefully to get away from Akune. "Well, to get on to my job as the student council president: we're here to decide the successor, basically the next captain, right?" She glares at Akune. "For now you're a special case 2nd year Akune. Go and chat a bit with Zenkichi." Medaka, you traitor! "I'm sure you two have a lot to discuss amongst yourselves."

Akune keeps looking at Medaka and blushing until he's next to you. Then he regards you, and instantly switches to disgust. "Long time no see...Ummm, what's your name again?"

[] "Zenkichi Hitoyoshi. Nice to meet you Akune-sempai."
[] "Zenkichi Hitoyoshi. Who the hell are you?"
[] "No sense in giving my name to someone with a brain the size of a pebble."

[] "Zenkichi Hitoyoshi."
[] "Why should I give my name to someone who refuse to do the same?"

Chapter Two: 7
[X] "Zenkichi Hitoyoshi."

"Zenkichi Hitoyoshi." You reply in the most bland way possible, not even looking at him.

"You damn insect!" Akune snarls. "For someone that keep rejecting Medaka-san's kindness you're always around her, that's what you call being a leech! Just so you know, it's your fault Medaka-san's approval rating wasn't 100%!"

On the contrary: it's thanks to you that it got as high as the 98%. After all your fangirls wanted you to be the President. "Please don't say such terrible things. People may see it as harassment."

"Hmph! My mind and body exist to serve Medaka! If it's for her I'd welcome hatred as if I were a venomous snake!"

'So if I'm an insect you're a snake? That's still low in the evolutionary tree.' Truly, why does it sounds like you're an angle in a love triangle? This isn't funny!

"Now then, if you'll allow me to have a word with you all..." Medaka begins, facing all the club members. "Judo isn't something that should be taught. It's something that has to be studied!"

Isn't learning a martial art without a teacher dangerous?

"And so! First I'll test the worth of your skills and decide the candidates myself!" She proclaims while doing Tenchi Matou's stance. "Every single one of you, until only one remains! I'll take you all on!"

You would say testing them one by one is the most efficient choice, but Medaka doesn't possess those kinds of limits.

"Heh heh!" Nabeshima, who has moved next to Akune, giggles. "She's sure making fun of this situation, not to mention my glorious Judo Club."

"She's just wasting her breath." Akune comments. "Even if Judo's their specialty, we're the only ones who can match Medaka in a fight."

In that moment the vice-captain, Jounan, is the first to overcome the general surprise and lunge at Medaka, spouting some crap about [accidental contact]. Only to be instantly knocked down by Medaka.

"Are you saying you can really have an even match with someone who got her red belt in the second year of middle school?" You deadpan, barely fazed by the event.

Akune sweatdrops in a rare moment of self-reflection...before ruining it by switching back to [love-struck fangirl] mode. By contrast Nabeshima smiles awkwardly before putting back her cool persona and addressing you: "Hitoyoshi-kun, you seem to really know Kurokami-san well."

"Well, duh. We spent most of our lives together." Since the both of you were two years old in fact, though there were periods of time when you went on separate ways, and for good reasons. "You can call what she does amazing or impossible, and you would be right: but for Medaka, what can I say, she just does what she can. She doesn't use for herself the labels other people give her."

Kurokami Medaka is, without a doubt, an abnormal existence that many would call perfect, and others like you superior to most.

It's for this reason that you want her to be by your side. Because it's only thanks to her that you will reach the necessary heights to make your dream a reality.

"Heh heh heh. I see, I see." Nabeshima giggles again, moving her face very close to your own. "While I have to agree, I also have to disagree. By comparison, you're far more amazing for being an ordinary guy who follows that monster around."

"...Ordinary guy?" You frown. "Is that the impression you have of me?" 'I know I decided to keep a low profile to enjoy a normal high school life, but to be called ordinary?'

"I'm not underrating your achievements, [Club Typhoon]. But unlike Kurokami-san, who has an innate talent, someone who match such talent with pure determination and hard work is more impressive. I totally love go-getters like you Hitoyoshi-kun." She winks. "Wanna join the Judo Club?"

"Again with the same offer?" While she's cute, you know she's just doing it to get a new member for her club. And even if she really was coming on to you, she seems like the type of girl that love to get spoiled rotten. "My answer is the same as before: thank you, but I'll have to decline."

"Why? It's not like you lack free time." Akune narrows his eyes at you. "Or are you too busy mooching off Medaka-san's success? If that's so hurry up and join the Student Council."

"..." You give him a neutral look. "My reasons are my own."

"Isn't that the same as saying you're following your whims? You may be a helpless, pathetic insect but you're already a highschool student." He sneers. "While it's fitting for an insect to hide under a rock, don't you think it's time for you to mature? If you dislike so much being offered a place next to Medaka-san, I'll take it."

Until now you tried to keep it cool, but now this fucking worm is starting to get on your nerves. "Who's the one who isn't mature?" You shoot him a cold, withering glare. "Medaka has no need for freaks like you. If you want to admire her do so from within the earth she steps on."

"Now, now. No fighting." Nabeshima grins widely while circling a hand around yours and Akune's neck. "This is the sacred Judo Hall. But if you really want to settle your differences that much...say Hitoyoshi-kun, you do know some Judo, right?"

"...Yes. What of it?" What is she planning?

"In that case, how about you settle this with Judo? A match between you two. If Akune-kun wins you'll join the Judo Club and persuade Kurokami-san to have Akune-kun join the Student Council."

Ah, that's what. "...And if I win?" You ask with a sweatdrop.

"Heh heh. What would you like to demand?"

"I hope you're not expecting me to refuse, Nebeshima-san." You grin, feeling your blood flowing faster and faster in your veins. "Because I, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, never run away from a challenge!"

In the middle of beating up the other club members Medaka smiles knowingly.

A few minutes later you're wearing a judo uniform and facing off against Akune. "We're going with house rules to make this an even match against Akune-kun." Nabeshima explains. "It'll be [no time plus 10 points] versus [no time plus 1 point]. So until Akune-kun gets 10 points, it'll be Hitoyoshi-kun's victory if he gets 1 point."

Wow, is she underestimating you or what? Does she really think impossible for you to get a single point against Akune? Absurd: he may be better than you at Judo, but you can definitely get that point even in the first match.

"Hmph! I'll give you credit for not putting your tail between your legs and running." Akune starts the traditional pre-battle trash talk. "Oh, but now that I think about it worms don't have tails, right?"

Of course you oblige. "Are you saying there is something to run from, sempai?"

"Impudent little worm." Then he pauses. "What's this, a necklace? Take it off if you're going to have a ma-!"

His hand, which has snapped towards your chest, is instantly blocked by your own hand grabbing his wrist, hard enough to make Akune wince. "Do not touch it!" Your snarl, keeping up the pressure long enough to get the message across before releasing his arm. Ignoring everyone else's looks you take off the green heart-shaped necklace hanging from your neck by a chain. "Sorry Medaka, can I trouble you just this once?"

"It doesn't even need to be said." She gently takes it in her hand and keeps it pressed against her chest. "I know how much you value this."

"Thank you." You face Akune again: while he's still looking down at you, he also seems to be taking things a bit more serious.
