Heir To The World (Medaka Box/JJBA) - Revamped SV Version!

Hm, ninja'ed by the update.

[X] "It seems Medaka missed a troublemaker to reform." Drags Hyuga to Medaka.

I am imagining his thought process being "I can punish him...but the worst punishment is to throw him to Medaka!"

Sweet, so we have a [Stand] already?

Or is it just Zenkichi's own skill that's happening?

Well, while there isn't an stand listed in the Character Sheet it seems pretty telling that there is a '???' for the name. Or it could be our of Eye of the Mind.

[] "It seems Medaka missed a troublemaker to reform." Drags Hyuga to Medaka.
This one feels like disregarding what we just said to Medaka and reinforcing her belief that she is 「 Right 」
[] "Asking me if I agree with you...what a [useless] question!" Time to deal with the problem yourself. MUDA MUDA MUDA!!!
I'll go with this one unless there's something that makes me change my vote ;)

Edited:

[X] "As I see it, the only weed dirtying school property here is the spoilt brat before me, throwing a tantrum because he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted. Now are you going to grow up and stop, or will I have to teach you a lesson in [discipline]?"

More involved than the others, it feels right.

The previous option went exactly as I said...sigh well lets see here.

Sorry, I didn't have the time to come back and read your and NSMS's responses earlier, and while that seems a reasonable tact to have, it seems like she would have ignored us either way. Going by what you two have said and what we've seen here, Medaka is wholly convinced she's in the right, that sort of conviction doesn't lend well to arguing the issue even if the question itself is reasonable. The question was [] "Do you really want to carry on as you are? Wouldn't you regret it one day"
and frankly it seems brutally easy for Medaka to answer; 'Yes, no'. I don't think she would have give the question the weight it deserved, simply because she can't stop and consider any viewpoint on the issue other than her own.

Instead it seems as if rather than fruitlessly trying to argue the issue with her, Zenkichi has developed the opposing conviction, that one day Medaka's foolish ideology will hurt her, and that as her friend he has to try and protect her from that and prepare to deal with the inevitable fallout. I'm not saying this is right, or even that I necessarily agree with it- but it's interesting to have the protagonist and deuteragonist have opposing convictions over an important issue while still being close.

Ooo, this is neat. I only know some stuff tangentially about Jojo, but I'm a big fan of Medaka Box. I shall think on the vote, in the meantime...

Hehe about that...
No, seriously, I don't want to ruin the manga for people, but I understand people may want to understand the source material to make better decision and meta this shit up.

Anyways, Medaka is a distilled Mary Sue who always wins. It might as well be a special ability, and latter there is even a character that argues it is such a special ability, so you're right in that there is nothing that can realistically sway her through a simple speech. It bares some unpacking, though, to understand exactly what her problem is.

When Medaka was... 2ish? she was already ridiculously smart, making professionals in their fields look like idiots. She was taken to a research institute for prodigy like children and was super ultra depressed that she had no direction in her life. There, she met Zenkichi, the son of one of the doctors there (his mom) whom, like most children, couldn't handle simple puzzles. She proceeded to show him how idiotically simple they all were, and Zenkichi found it super cool, much to her confusion. He then said she must have this ability to make other people happy, after all look at how happy he made her. Thus, Medaka found a life raft in a sea of depression and built her entire identity around 'being useful to strangers'. This also caused her to develop a crush on Zenkichi, which he instantly turned her down on. I'm pretty sure it has never actually disappeared. Zenkichi also dedicated himself to being able to stand at Medaka's side after this due to her refusing to leave his side afterwards and almost playing him to death.

It's not for awhile from this point in canon that Zenkichi realized how much this hurt Medaka. In short, though, Medaka really needs to go on her own soul searching journey.

Canon Zenkichi has his own problems. His father abandoned his mother because she was so ridiculously skilled that it made him feel incompetent, or just disturbed. This caused Zenkichi, someone who was completely normal in canon, to adopt the attitude of 'I do not give a dam if people are better than me, I will never accept that as an excuse for falling behind them'. From what little I know of Jojo, though, Zenkichi seems to be the son of Dio I believe? So that has likely changed drastically.
If I were to sum up how to help/deal with Medaka I would say for Zenkichi to become an opponent for her, which would make her giddy beyond all belief. A healthy dose of somehow getting her on a soul searching journey is also likely called for.

With that in mind I'm not sure which I'd vote for, but...

This looks the most interesting to me at the moment.

Time to put that Charisma (C) to work.

Chapter One: 7
[X] "As I see it, the only weed dirtying school property here is the spoilt brat before me, throwing a tantrum because he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted. Now are you going to grow up and stop, or will I have to teach you a lesson in [discipline]?"

"As I see it, the only weed dirtying school property here is the spoilt brat before me!" You declare rather dramatically, pointing both hands at Hyuga and slightly leaning back your head so you can look down on him. "Throwing a tantrum because he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted! Now are you going to grow up and stop being rude, or will I have to teach you a lesson in discipline?"

"Fuck you! Who the hell do you think you are, looking down at me like you're my goddamn superior?!" Hyuga straightens up, brandishing his sword once again. "I'm a nationally famous kendoist! I don't need weeds holding me back, and sure as hell I don't need people around telling me what to do! That grand Kendo Hall...should belong only to me!"

He swings his sword again.

You, however, didn't keep up your pose for nothing. You catch the flat sides of the blade between yours palms while at the same time straightening your spine, shifting your center of gravity so that the force of Hyuga's blow is distributed evenly through your body and into the ground. This method allows you to block the blow with the minimum amount of force needed and to trap his bokken, thus neutralizing the green haired boy's advantage.

You told Medaka the truth: when it comes to Kendo you are only average.

In a display of impressive flexibility your right foot shoots up between Hyuga's arms and slams right into his chin.

Your real specialty is Savate.

Losing his grip on the bokken Hyuga is sent spinning backwards through the hallway. Luckily for him you held back, so when he hits the wall the impact doesn't produce web cracks on the concrete.

Switching the bokken's grip to your right hand you calmly walk towards Hyuga, who is slowly pushing himself up while bleeding from both the nose and the mouth. The red liquid's smell excites you, something that must has shown on your face because Hyuga's eyes widen.

"Do you not get along well with others Hyuga? Do you need to be taught not only discipline, but also how to better socialize?" Your smile widens to the point your slightly-longer-than normal canines are visible. "You're lucky then! Medaka would have been better for the first, but about the second I am a real expert."

You raise the sword in the air until both it and your arm are perfectly aligned. Conveniently the sun chooses that moment to shine behind you, bathing your body in a luminescent halo.

"So, even if I am not part of the Student Council, allows I, Zenkichi, to demonstrate what you lack!"

[*]

Someone knocks on the wooden frame of the sliding door. Ordering the reformed delinquents to continue training Medaka goes to see who it is. Opening the sliding door she comes face to face with a student, green hair set above broken glasses and a face that seems to have been run over several times. In fact his entire uniform looks like it went through a war. "Good morning. How can I help you? You don't look okay. You should deliver yourself to the nurse's office at once."

"Ah, no. Thank you, but I'm fine." He weakly raises a hand with a thousand-yards stare. "My name is Hyuga Habataki, 1st year. I would like to apply for the Kendo Club."

So he is the one Shiranui told her about with her request. She wanted to take care of it after training, but it seems the request's target came to her instead. Moreover, she has the feeling the problem already resolved by itself. Marvelous. "You're more than welcome, 1st year Habataki!" She flaps her fan open. "May I inquire on your reasons to join, despite the Club not being official yet?"

"J-Just feels like it." He looks away, uncomfortable with the question. Or is it embarrassment? "I'm not doing it just because he told me to..."

How curious. Medaka feels there is quite the story behind it. Regardless, her duty now is to train the clearly enthusiastic kendo lover before her. "Very well! Take a shinai and give me ten thousand strokes basic practice!"

The Next Day

You clench and unclench your right hand. Why do you have the feeling you touched something unsightly? Usually your gut feelings aren't so vague.

That's when you notice a vase with two flowers on the table of the Student Council Room. "What's with the flowers?"

"Hm?" Medaka turns to face you, her fan opens next to her face. "This is just an incentive to fulfill my official council duties. Every time I sort out a student's problem I put a flower on display, and at the moment I've got two. Truthfully the second one partially resolved itself without my intervention, but it still was a submitted request: as such I decided its completion deserved to be celebrated with a flower."

"Oh?" You now have a curious look on your face. "So you do have such a girly side to your personality then. And what will you do if you fail one of the requests? Leave an empty vase? Kill a flower off?"

"I won't fail." She says as she stares outside the window. "Even if I do, I won't dwell on it. My dream is to one day look out over this room and seeing nothing but blooming flowers." She smiles brightly.

"Is that so? Then we need to stockpile in perennial flowers." You point out. "Still, even if it depends on the number of requests people will send you, can you manage it alone? I heard you ended up ditching the recruitment meeting." Not that you believe she would have chosen anyone who joined.

"Fine by me." Medaka glances at you. "From the beginning I never planned on working with anyone except you."

"No can do. The minimum amount of members is five. Sooner or later, you will have to match it." You remind her before cracking an eye open. "But, anyone except you? Is this what I think it is? Are you inviting me to the Student Council again?"

"Does it even need to be spelled out loud?" Medaka spreads her fan to the right, legs crossed and left arm circling above her head. Nice pose. "Once again, stand by my side Zenkichi!"

[] "Fine. Give me an armband."
[] "Sorry Medaka, I need more time to decide."
[] "The answer is still no."
[] Write-in.

Yeah, my take from canon is that Hyuga is a male tsundere masochist. Sue me.

I feel that this Zenkichi is the type of guy who would hang around to help his friends when asked but has absolutely no desire to be constrained and put into a role by becoming part of an organised group/government/club/cliche. Unless he's the central pillar/leader/founder.

Edit: That and he refuses to be caught dead in a student council uniform. Here's hoping to Zenkichi becoming an unofficial member of the Student Council simply because he hates the uniform. Either the black goes or he's keeping the white clear.
