Heir To The World (Medaka Box/JJBA) - Revamped SV Version!

It's a valid question actually.

Dio is actually one hard guy to kill. He's worse than a cockroach in that regard. When you think you've killed him, he'll come back to ruin everybody's day. :p

So true.

Anyway, before you make assumptions: this is a fusion so canon is already weakened, but there are other factors that may influence what is commonly called "Canon". The past will be revealed little by little during the quest, you just have to wait for it.

Or if you're still uncertain...

GM: "That... is a secret!"

Overall, just roll with the flow really.

Chapter One: 5
Author's Notes: Rather than Necromancy, this is like activating a reserve android for the first time. The original run of this quest started on SB, before the whole debacle where it was prudent to transfer quests here. I simply decided to finally resume it, but on SV.

[X] "I think Medaka just gained new followers. They will be too terrified to defy her again."

"What I think will happen?" You repeat before a pleased, and a little sadistic, smile spreads on your lips. "I think Medaka just gained new followers. They will be too terrified to defy her again."

Were it anyone else that did those things to them these wannabe rebels would have never come back to the Kendo Hall or school altogether. If that hellish training was delivered with obvious enjoyment at their sufferings they may even have gained the courage to attempt revenge.

But with Medaka? It was impossible: your childhood friend possesses an incredible charisma that no normal human can resist. As those delinquents experienced physical pain the 'image' of Medaka as a being 'larger than life' was forever engraved into their souls. Awe and terror are rooted in the same area of the brain. The concept of Sublime as elaborated by the Greek writer Longinus in the first century AD is a clear example of how people are aware of this idea since antiquity.

Even if it is pain rather than pleasure, they have been ensnared by the Excitement Medaka's presence gives them.

"..." Shiranui silently chews on another chicken wing before speaking again. "We'll see about that."

"Oh?" You raise an eyebrow. "You doubt my words?"

"Considering just how long you've know each other, you really don't understand Medaka at all, do you?"

"Interesting words you chose here." You give her a skeptical look. "Are you implying that you understand Medaka better than me?"

You sink your chopsticks into the rice before resting them on the bowl's border, the other ends leaning past it. Then you raise two fingers and quickly push them down on the chopsticks' ends outside the bowl until they meet the table. By the law of the lever part of the rice flies in the air, makes a U-turn and falls down.

Directly into your mouth. You chew slowly while staring at a surprised Shiranui before finally swallowing. "Even if your eating habits resembles those of Medaka before she decided that as the Student Council President it would be not proper to eat that way, don't you think it's a little premature to decide you know a person you explicitly declared you don't like better than their childhood friend?"

"..." The blue-haired girl stares slack-jawed before quickly filling it with more rice and chicken. "Touché. But really, if it was as simple as [We cowed the bad guys into behaving] don't you think you wouldn't have to go through the things you do?"

"This isn't a joke..." Someone suddenly whispers behind you in a dark tone. "I'm gonna be pissed if they're still there..."

You subtly tense, preparing for an attack. But the presence behind you leave without doing anything. "Was someone sitting in the seat behind me just now?" You ask Shiranui without turning around.

"Eh? Yeah, Hyuga from our class was eating just behind you."

Hyuga? You fail to connect a face to that name. But his voice, you will surely remember it.

"Why do you want to know?"

"...Nothing important."

As we put away the our trays and dirty bowls Shiranui makes another comment. "You probably don't need to worry about it for long. The rest of the council positions will be filled soon anyway." At your inquisitive look she continues. "Didn't you know? After class today there is a recruitment meeting for the remaining positions of the school council. All the elite students from the 2nd and 3rd years will be there."

You are not sure why she thinks you would care about something like that.

"Once all the council positions are filled, then you won't be messed about by Medaka anymore." She grins. "You should be pleased."

Hardly. After all, you cannot imagine anything coming out of it.

[*]

Later you find yourself walking to the Kendo Hall, curiosity compelling you to check if your prediction was correct. Once at the entrance you push the sliding door open...and find the hall completely spotless, polished to a shine and with no more signs of decay. "Impressive." You comment while removing your shoes and stepping inside, the environment now pleasing to your senses.

"Zenkichi, you're late." On cue Medaka steps into your vision, dressed in cleaning clothes and armed with a bucket and a duster. "Training started ages ago. As punishment you'd best not expect to be going home anytime soon."

"...Excuse me?" You look at her in confusion. "What training? I am not part of the club, nor I agreed to return today at a fixed time."

"You did."

"I didn't."

"Yes you did. We were all united in mind and soul yesterday as we purified our bodies through rigorous training!" With one swift and smooth move she takes out the cleaning clothes, revealing her uniform under them. "As such, it isn't only natural for you to be sworn to the same obligations as everyone else?"

"That is troll logic! That is definitely troll logic Medaka!" You rage at her. "Also! If I'm late the others are even more so! Go yell at them and leave me alone!"

"True." She looks around. "No one seems to come on time those days."

"...Just to be sure, you did leave them able to walk, right?" She blinks in surprise before nodding. "Then...well, I'll be. It seems I underestimated them." You may even have to upgrade them from wannabe rebels to novice rebels. "They decided to not come back."

"They will come back." Medaka replies immediately, her face resolute and full of faith.

"Medaka, you-"

[] "-Are right. Even if they are complete strangers I trust your judgment."
[] "-Why do you bother yourself so much for a group of complete strangers?"
[] "-Should accept reality. No sense in being concerned for a bunch of complete strangers."

"Aren't you aware?" Medaka declares as if she was on top of a podium talking to the rest of the school. "I was born onto this Earth to help complete strangers! I don't care about being top or breaking records. It's only when I am able to help someone that I truly feel happy."

"Stop. You stop right there." You declare back. "First, you weren't born to help complete strangers: you decided to help complete strangers. Don't talk as if it was Fate." You sneer when saying that word. "Second, only when I help someone I feel happy? That's the mentality of Emiya Shirou, and we all know how fucked up in the head he is."

"I thank you for your honest words Zenkichi. Truly, you always look after me." Medaka smiles, nodding to herself with her eyes closed. "But those are my honest feelings!"

You sigh. "Then it's a really carefree life you live. I guess that, with your talents, anyone would."

"Talent? That's another dull word."

Dull? What's dull about it? Talent is definitely not a dull word. But really, is this girl even aware of the effects those words can have on those who aren't like her?

[] "I guess that, if it's you, you can carry on as you are without regretting it one day."
[] "Do you really want to carry on as you are? Wouldn't you regret it one day?"
[] "If you carry on as you are, you're bound to regret it one day."

It's not only this quest: all the previous threadmarks has been revamped. Check them out.

Do you not believe the "you WILL regret it" to be too heavy handed? most who are spoken to that way wouldn't even consider the thought. Questioning it shows more concern to the person and they wouldn't exactly dismiss it out of hand..

Because moderation for the sake of moderation is boring as all fuck and something SV clings to too much for my taste. Might as well actually pick an ideological viewpoint rather than pointlessly ask questions all while having no meaningful opinion of our own. I'm pretty much utterly unfamiliar with both settings but it seems like Zenkichi is partially friends with Medaka so that he can insulate her from her own shortcomings- namely, that she absolutely doesn't understand people. One day he's not going to be able to bridge that gap for her- she needs to at the very least understand other people and come to terms with how the world works someday.

And Zenkichi- for all his flaws here, seems to understand and want to drive home that viewpoint for her. If Medaka is an naive idealist who thinks or aspires to have everyone as perfect as she is- he's the cynic who sees the disparity between her and everyone else and recognizes it for the impossible gulf that it is. If to Medaka everyone is truly equal and equally capable, to Zenkichi everyone has a different value according to their own merit. He's not quick to write people off as trash, but he's fully willing to admit some people simply are trash.

@Alexander89, when I saw you add the threadmarks I was all "Jojo/Medaka? That is is going to go places."

Then I noticed the posts were old and refrained from commenting.

And now here we are.

[X] "-Why do you bother yourself so much for a group of complete strangers?"
[X] "If you carry on as you are, you're bound to regret it one day."

Sometimes friendship means being able to tell the honest truth.

Speaking as someone unfamiliar with Medaka Box, the attitude she's displayed in the quest so far suggests to me that she'll flat out reject statements she doesn't like (see her dragging Zenkichi into this). Questioning, on the other hand, could work as she's been shown to respond to that (see this update: https://forums.sufficientvelocity.c...a-revamped-sv-version.3464/page-5#post-430503).

...granted, I wasn't actually considering this when I voted myself, but that doesn't make it less valid.

Medaka is stubborn and Medaka honestly and utterly thinks what she said is a fact.

Saying "You will regret it" has never worked before something happens for the words to haunt the characters, questioning it on the other hand involved actually engaging them rather than merely making a statement.

And it is not moderation for sake of moderation just as I hope you are not voting just for the sake of something different, it is an actual choice to respond to the situation.

Honestly speaking if someone told you off hand "you will regret x" when you have decided on something how much value would you give their opinion rather than someone saying "Hey wouldn't you regret this? you sure its ok?" at the very least most of the time it wouldn't be dismissed out of hand as it shows a level of care for the person.

I hope it didn't damage your initial impression too much. Of course I also want this quest to go places, but what was done until then was good so I decided to keep it.

It's probably useless, but you need to say it anyway. "Medaka." You point a single finger at her, the other hand in your pocket, while showing your right profile save for your head which is also turned towards her. "If you carry on as you are, you're bound to regret it one day."

"What is there to regret? Helping others is never wrong!" Again, she sounds just like a certain Sword Incarnation. While the concept itself has its merits, the heights she brings it to are harmful to herself. "I will come to anyone's aid! I will not look down on anybody!"

Aaah, you knew it: so useless. You're disappointed with yourself. You shake your head while raising both open palms. "I gave you my opinion. What you do with it is up to you. Do as you wish Medaka, I'm leaving."

She doesn't try to stop you. At the very least you have persuaded her there is no real reason for you to join the Kendo training. You reach to the sliding door and open it: in doing so you come face to face with the delinquents of yesterday, now wearing proper Kendo club attires and holding a shinai each.

You give them a deadpan stare. "You guys are late."

"Shove it! It wasn't easy finding those clothes." Moji rudely replies before walking past you and through the door, the others following without hesitation. "We may be a bunch of lowlives, but don't you dare confuse us for cowards!"

"No, no. In the first place, being a coward is one of the traits required to be classified as lowlive." You put back your shoes, not even looking at him. "I'll say it takes more courage to run away from Medaka than to return to her. But, actually, it takes even more courage to put on such a brave front."

"...You bastard. What the hell are you saying?" The 3rd year snarls with a large tick above his eyebrow, both enraged and confused.

"I'm saying-" You stand up and shrug with a small grin. "That I was right: it is up to you to decide what kind of person you want to be."

With those last words you walk away, leaving them to ponder on your words while enduring another hellish session.

[*]

As you walk through one of the empty hallways of Hakoniwa Academy, both to take a relaxing stroll and to familiarize yourself with the layout of the school, you begin to reflect on the past. Specifically, Medaka.

Medaka Kurokami, ever since you can remember, she always ended up standing above people. In face of her overpowering personality and unquestioning dictatorship, whilst being the envy of many and possessing a personality which rides above right and wrong...in the end, no one could help but liking her. That girl, it was probable that...regardless of what hardships she is forced to bear, in the end she wouldn't resent a thing. She would just carry on as she always does.

"Aaah, what a troublesome childhood friend I have." You sigh from the mental exhaustion of dealing with Medaka even when she is not physically present.

A sharp sound of something hitting hard the ground suddenly reverberated through the empty hallway.

Finally your stalker decided to act. You were tired to wait for them to make the first move. Calmly turning around you see a boy your age with messy green hair, glasses and black eyes. He was staring with a somewhat funny look where his bokken hit the ground. "What the hell?!"

You immediately recognize the voice. "You must be Hyuga." You put your hands in your pockets and assume a relaxed stance. "Why are you attacking me?"

Instead of answering he swings his sword at you again. However, somehow he misses you, the blow passing over your body without making even a single contact. He tries again and again, from different angles and in different places with many Kendo moves, but each time he misses. "Why can't I hit you?"

The last blow, a thrust, stops exactly one centimeter from touching your chest. Resisting the urge to snicker at Hyuga's bewildered expression you address him again. "Let's make a deal. You will answer my question, and in exchange I will answer one of yours. What do you think? It's a very fair deal to me."

Hyuga hesitantly nods, sweat forming on his skin due to the fatigue accumulated without rest in-between. Then rage courses through his facial features: "You and that demon girl of a president were supposed to get rid of those weeds in the Kendo Hall, not cultivate them! Damn idiots!"

You raise an eyebrow. "Weeds? Interesting usage of that term. From your words, I take you were the one who put the original request in the Suggestion Box? In any case, it's not concern of mine if you're satisfied or not. Now, choose."

You raise both index and middle fingers. "Which question you want answered: why we didn't get rid of those weeds, as you call them, or why you cannot hit me?"

For a moment you see curiosity for both warring in Hyuga's eyes before setting down on one. "The first one!"

"Your request was for Medaka to find some way to get rid of the troublemakers who have taken over the Kendo Hall. Guess what?" You clap your hands and slowly spread your arms while giving him a shit-eating grin. "There are no more troublemakers in the Kendo Hall! Those inside are now the reformed Kendo Club that was disbanded a few years ago! Since from your swordsmanship I can tell you are a 3-dan kendoist, aren't you happy?"

"Who the hell would be happy about that?!" He yells, clearly unsatisfied with your answer. "Even if you dress them up nicely weeds are still weeds! If they dirty school property you get rid of them! Surely you agree with me!"

Really. Such a spoiled and rotten personality this guy has.

[] "It seems Medaka missed a troublemaker to reform." Drags Hyuga to Medaka.
[] "Why should I care?" Turn around and walk away.
[] "Asking me if I agree with you...what a [useless] question!" Time to deal with the problem yourself. MUDA MUDA MUDA!!!
[] Write-in.
