Harry And The Shipgirls: Prisoner of Shipping (A HP/KanColle Snippet Collection)

Lol and thus the dick-measuring contest between Ireland with its Gae Bolg system and Japan with its Ohka (what myth/legend can we parallel it with? Tawara Touta's divine arrows?) began.

Oh yes, definitely...

Now, add a half-decent guidance system - I'd say TV guidance with a camera at the nose and upscaled drone or RC aircraft controls in the cockpit, with someone at the launching aircraft or base - they can be a nasty surprise for any Abyssal or anyone else, for that matter. Depends on the ability of the engineer designing the suite, and how close they are to being a Ron Weasley, but with a focus on aviation instead of naval engineering, to dodge the MSSB sufficiently for the remote control to work.

That part shouldn't be too hard, radio-guided ordnance like the fritz-x were already a thing by the end of the war and some like the GB-4 even had video feedback.
There were also bombers that were retro-fitted to be remote controlled for testing purposes around that time too.

Hell, Utah was partially remote controlled in the last years of her service life.

Okay, I'm not sure how he lost an eye, but couldn't he have gotten a replacement one?
On how: it has something to do with spirits, or else he wouldn't have let that other world's Muramasa forge Todesangst.

And the cyber eye comes in the future.
You know, I'll wager that when Ehren allows the spirit bound to the Demulcent to pass on, the effect will be...interesting.
I'm fairly certain that this would remove the pleasant smell and give everyone a whiff of eu de cadaver.
mein kleiner Bruder
Wolfswelpe. Yes, Wölfin is the word for a she-wolf, but german doesn't gender that.
Tut, for instance is Bücherwurm AKA 'bookworm' to Ehren.
Well... he likes books.
Nice family snippet. How affectionate are Colombe and Toku as grandmothers?
She is very much 'champagne glass' shape so she's an A/B cup.
So about Admiral Graf Spee in size?
Very VERY nice! I like it! (one minor note. Colombe is a Muramasa herself)
I know, that's why the Commander's smile turned mischievous, with him bringing along a who-knows- how-many great-niece along.
Anything that stands out?

Sometimes it feels as I just stop posting. Maybe that's just my depression talking again...
Just tell me if I should stop.

Have some art as an apology for my angsting.

IIRC, the ships converted into target ships were remote-controlled, too.

For other people, it would probably be more like, "Why did I feel attracted to Pansy again?"

Then they assume(like Snape) that Pansy used a love potion (Which technically isn't wrong...)

Anyway, Kamo proving just how petty and spiteful he was, I see.

Oh yeah no question there, I just went with period-accurate guided bombs since there's a whole lot of difference between what space you have in a bomb casing (or the diminutive cockpit of an Ohka) and what space you have on a bomber or ship's bridge.

Wouldn't have been super useful to jury-rig a ship's RC system to a small plane if said RC system was nearly as large as the entire plane. ;)

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's only spiritually aware people who can smell the Musk of Death.

Might be the magic masks the smell to everyone not spiritually aware? From what I remember of the snip, corpse fat was one of the main ingredients of the demulcent.

Very slowly, Ume nodded at that, "Ah, you're talking about the launch pad for the V2s."
Resist it, resist it...

Sorry, just had to do it.

But for real though, Kamo's plan to use the V2s for false flag attacks and escalate the war is quite horrifying. At least they can now hopefully find some good use for those V2s.
With a glance at her, Harry shook his head, "Technically, Japan isn't allowed to have Ballistic Missiles, technically. But then, Japan isn't allowed to have Battleships and full on Fleet Carriers either, yet shipgirls of those do serve in the military."
I thought that that restriction was basically nullified after Blood Week what with the US allowing Japan to build whatever they want and the next biggest country that would grumble about it (China) in disarray. But I guess internal politics would make the idea of completely repealing the restriction a bit uncomfortable even if for perfectly valid reasons. So those restrictions were basically suspended pending review by war's end.

But aside from that, great snip Harry. I really like the tour of the air defenses that the Twins have and are quite surprised at how well equipped their airbase are. Those heavy bombers will be quite useful for installation busting.

And the tour of the Caldera Navel Base continues.

There were some Floatplane Fighters that were in one of the three hangers, though not too many. It was obvious that they were for the defense of the Caldera when needed, probably launching out in waves from the tunnels at a high enough speed to lift off quickly. But that was not what caught their gaze.
Getting to takeoff speed inside of a tunnel would be risky. But not as insane as if you were doing so with a jet.

"Those are our Kawanishi H11Ks,
So, judging by what's said, they're kind of like the BV-238?

Very slowly, Ume nodded at that, "Ah, you're talking about the launch pad for the V2s."
They better not have more people die making those things than being hit by them.

Blinking, the teenage wizard nodded at that with interest, "Ah, a V2 launch pad, that makes sense I guess…"

There was a beat of silence after those words…

And then Harry's head snapped around and his eyes went wide, "Wait, what? You have a V2 launch pad!?"
Yep, it took him a moment to realize that yes, they have the capacity to launch short-range ballistic missiles.

Very quickly, the wizard paled some and shook his head as his thoughts raced, "… No, because they would have been useless." At their looks, Harry grimaced some, "RO-Chan and some of her sisters sometimes talked about the V2s, because apparently there was talk of using them to deliver such to the East Coast of the United States. Because they were only really good at hitting at static targets, like towns and bases, not an army on the move."
Well, they weren't meant to hit things that were moving. Guidance wasn't that good yet.

Staring at the V2 launch pad, Harry took a deep breath, "The invading army would not have been the target, you would have needed as many V2s as Germany had produced to likely make a dent, unless you targeted towns already taken. Which… would not surprise me, but…" He glanced at Akiyama, "From what I know, Kamo was extremely spiteful, right up to the end, right? And more than willing to do anything, even burn down the nation around him if it meant that he would win."
So, Scorched Earth? Hit anywhere that's occupied so that the allies would regret taking the location (the locals died with honor and for the glory of the Emperor)? Oh, assassinate the emperor and blame it on the enemy!

"We should note that we have considered developing a remote guidance system for the Ohka as well which can be used in place of a pilot. Thus, allowing us to make use of any that happen to pop up against Abyssal Installations."
That's also what V2 is for.
Well, hopefully the Baka will FINALLY be more useful than a way to waste good men.

Don't think so - the engine is a glorified firework.
The things are also used as oversized fireworks by shipgirls.

Airplane (Sea and Land) tour!!
Yeah from everything in this (as well as the first) thread, Kamo was a real piece of work. Harry likes planes. (not that I blame him)

A. N. -- The Muse has decided I shall write more of Future Ehren and Taube. Prior snip here.

Arrivals And Departures

Platform 9 3/4, King's Cross Railway Station, London

1st September, 2031

"Now this brings back memories, doesn't it dear?" Draco Malfoy leaned close to the ear of his fourth wife.

Ehren du Chasteler-Malfoy nodded sharply as she watched their daughter Taube and son Thutmose Malfoy join the throng of excited teenage children waiting to board the Hogwarts Express with their big sister Johnston Malfoy (Junior) in tow. "Ja, it does, love. It seems that only yesterday like I was one of those adorable moppets bidding farewell to Mutti. Now we are the teary parents watching the little birds spread their wings as they leave the nest."

Niobe looked at her co-wife while Johnston and Cleo unloaded the travel trunks for their children's trip to Hogwarts. "You're exceptionally poetic today, Ehren." Then the cruiser looked at the changing expression on Ehren's face. "Another kick?"

Ehren shook her head. "False labor contraction. Again. I think Wilhelm's sleeping now." She then sighed. "It's just.... We recently saw Max off to Eton along with Taube's other avatar to network at Cheltenham Girl's College, and then Markus to Ilvermorny. And after the Terrible Twosome head to Hogwarts, it's just J.J. to Britannia Naval College and the first wave of Malfoys have left our lives for now."

Cleo returned in time to hear Ehren's musing.

"Ahh peace and quiet once more! Only Charlotte, Elsa, and Jean-Paul in the nursery, and Helene, Bastian, Claire, Julia and Ernestine running rampant in the house like the bunch of little savages that they are. Plus Wilhelm when he arrives next week." Cleo's voice was deadly dry and snarky.

All the parents shared laughter and fond smiles, joined by Johnston as the destroyer steamed back to the rest of her Fleet.

Niobe then coughed. "We better clear another crib, loves. I've missed my period, and my chief engineer just got caught looking over freshly drawn minesweeper plans. You all know what that means. I do believe that Mein Flottenadmiral laid a keel with me right after we sent Max and Taube off to network with the nobility."

Draco had the good grace to blush.

---------------------------------------------------------

"Oh... my... God...! She's so beautiful!!"

Thutmose's exclamation of shocked wonder caused Taube and her big sister Johnston Junior (known by the family as J.J.) to look his way with matching predatory smiles of unholy sibling delight at the trolling potential of their nerdy brother's outburst.

Taube's dope of a big brother was staring at a tall and gangly redheaded girl a year or two older than they were -- probably a Second or Third Year -- dressed in a Ravenclaw Hogwarts uniform. Miss Beautiful was in the company of a redheaded man dressed in what Taube's keen eyes immediately identified as a bespoke suit of quality cut and fabric, and a stunningly beautiful tall and buxom woman in an equally quality Egyptian-styled dress and golden jewelry who moved with the kind of grace and authority that Taube associated with Mutti Ehren, Mum Cleo, or Mother Niobe when they were Lady Malfoying for Daddy.

Taube sighed and shook her head, then not-so-subtly elbowed her dope of a big brother in the ribs. "{Go on, talk to her you goof! Get it out of your system!}" She snapped out in German, doing her best to put Mutti's command bark into the syllables.

J.J. chimed in while grabbing Tut's arm to tow him toward the girl who had enthralled him. "What Wolfie said, Tut! We're the kids of a Taffy, and badasses don't choke at the plate! C'mon!"

Taube gave a death glare directed at the back of her annoying brat of a big sister for using THAT SIBLING NICKNAME to refer to her.

In public!

To her future classmates!

This called for Proper du Chasteler Prussian Payback.

What would Mutti do?

Yes!

Taube promptly made a mental note to learn a pranking spell that could short-sheet a certain annoying Natural-Born sister's always-perfectly-made-up bed back home -- along with a Sticking Charm to glue her in.

Especially if she could arrange to frame Tut or Marcus for the prank once she pulled it on J.J. over Christmas break when the family gathered again.

---------------------------------------------------------

Taube accepted the farewell hugs from her mothers with admirable disciplined stoicism and self-control.

She wasn't crying.

Really.

Not even when Daddy shook her hand and told her that he looked forward to hearing about her First Year triumphs.

Not even when Mutti hugged her and said that she'd miss her.

"Hey Wolfie?" J.J. slapped her on the shoulder.

"Vas?" Taube snapped back with a slightly raised eyebrow, mentally adding an Itching Jinx to the planned future retaliation for today.

"Got the good RUMINT on Tut's girl. Wanna hear my scouting report?" J.J. leaned in.

Taube gave a small smug smile full of anticipation to her sister. "Spill, J.J." The hunting knife commanded the natural-born destroyergirl.

"The girl's Chione Weasley-Sunriver, a Second Year from Ravenclaw and a shipgirl. When I left her, she and Tut were talking Egyptian something-or-other. You know how much he likes Mum Cleo's interests." J.J.'s voice was filled with unholy anticipation of future sisterly trolling of Tut.

It didn't escape Taube's razor-sharp Jägeraugen that Mutti, Ma, Mother, Mum, and Daddy all perked up when they overheard this sibling blackmail report and exchanged significant glances among themselves.

Wirklich sehr interessant....

Taube mentally subtracted the Itching Jinx from her plans of sisterly revenge... for now.

---------------------------------------------------------

"Chione is a natural-born sunshipgirl too and there's some real budding chemistry there." Niobe mused as they watched Tut, Taube, and the other children board the train. "Her father Percy Weasley's highly placed in the Civil Service -- Home Office Department of Magic as I recall -- and one of those Weasleys of course. It reminds me of when we first saw you back in the day, love."

Draco nodded and leaned on his cane. "The next time Captain Weasley and I informally discuss things before the Admiralty's shipbuilding proposals to the Naval Affairs Committee that Father chairs for the Lords, I'll ask about his brother's family. Informally, of course. Cleo?"

Cleopatra smiled and looked over to where Johnston was talking to J.J about her 'sibling scouting report' as a training mechanism to help hone the necessary skills to become a proper Taffy Badass when the day came for her to carry on the tradition. "Mrs. Weasley-Sunriver's deeply involved with the Egyptology program at the British Museum, and I've met her socially several times at antiquities auctions, museum openings and the like when I have been ashore. I'll write her a letter and set up tea with her."

Draco nodded. "Good. It may be nothing, but it's useful to have plans in case this is a case of romance developing. Lugh hinted that my children with you four were destined to great things -- which includes great romances -- and this would definitely be benefic---"

He broke off as he realized that his fourth wife, who also served as a key political advisor, hadn't chimed in.

Which was very unlike her.

"Ehren?"

The Malfoys turned as one to see Ehren standing there with a very calm and controlled look on her pale face, marred by her wild eyes under her habitual iron self-discipline.

"Draco, my water just broke, and these aren't false labor pains that I have been having. Tell me that you know the location of the nearest hospital with a delivery room. SOFORT!"

---------------------------------------------------------

Great Ormond Street Hospital, London

Fortunately for Lord Draco Malfoy, he did in fact know the location of a nearby hospital with emergency services capable of handling delivery of his youngest (current) son. Said hospital had the latest medical and magical technologies to make the delivery of new life safe, fast, and painless for the mother-to-be.

Even more fortunately, he had escorted Niobe to a ribbon cutting there a year ago for a new facility, so he remembered the area with sufficient clarity to summon a Gate to transport his beloved fourth wife (who had a death grip on his arm at the time) and himself to the destination that she had politely requested that he transport her.

At the top of her lungs and with her voice starting to crack.

The rest of the family would arrive shortly after he checked Ehren into the hospital and saw her -- now in frank labor - immediately wheeled to the nearest available suite capable of handling a woman in the throes of birth.

It would have been mildly unfortunate for him had his son Wilhelm been delivered in the passenger seat of his Land Rover, of course.

Imagine the mess on the upholstery!

Especially considering what Ehren du Chasteler-Malfoy lovingly and calmly told her beloved husband shortly before the doors closed behind her and he was escorted to the waiting area to be notified fifteen minutes later of the wonderful news that his tsukumogami son Wilhelm (all 23 inches and 10 pounds of the baby) was a masterwork Zweihänder forged of Solingen steel, truly Draco Lucius Malfoy-du Chasteler was a fortunate man indeed.

"Verdammt, ich drücke!! Wenn ich mit dem Drücken fertig bin, ich werde meinen Mann ermorden, weil er mich dazu gebracht hat, diesen Fußball herauszudrücken!!"

---------------------------------------------------------

Author's Note: Jägeraugen are 'hunter's eyes' (Taube is the spirit of a Muramasa hunting knife). Likewise Wirklich sehr interessant.... is 'very interesting indeed....' As for the punchline: "Verdammt, ich drücke!! Wenn ich mit dem Drücken fertig bin, ich werde meinen Mann ermorden, weil er mich dazu gebracht hat, diesen Fußball herauszudrücken!!" Is "Goddamn it, I am pushing!! When I get done pushing, I'm going to murder my husband for making me push out this soccer ball!!"

Like.
Cleo returned. "Ahh peace and quiet once more! Only Charlotte, Elsa, and Jean-Paul in the nursery, and Helene, Bastian, Claire, Julia and Ernestine running rampant in the house like the bunch of little savages that they are. Plus Wilhelm when he arrives next week."
One of the Malfoy Jrs. is named after Ehren's Best Big Piano Sister?

"Mou, the Mizuchi stole the capitalization."

Ah, the labor rage. Thankfully, it only lasts until they see the baby, otherwise the male population in the world would have been a lot smaller.

Well it also didn't help that Wilhelm was a BIG boy (23 inches and 10 pounds even) at birth.

That said, once 'Mutti und Kinder' were resting after the labor, all was (mostly) forgiven when Draco revealed that he had secretly purchased a very large box of Leonidias gourmet Belgian chocolates as a gift for Ehren to celebrate her birth.

"Mou, the Mizuchi stole the capitalization."

Mizuchi given a baby onesie (fixes made)

One of the Malfoy Jrs. is named after Ehren's Best Big Piano Sister?

Oh yes. Ehren's second daughter (born in 2023 on our worksheet) is Claire Cygne Malfoy (although technically Cleo is the 'father' of this child with Ehren carrying Claire to term) Claire Malfoy is the diplomat and peacemaker of the bunch and she's been seen int he background a few times (Ehren-Tikki-Tavi and then Helene's graduation from Beauxbatons both namedropped her)

I look at how many Malfoy kids there are, Łokurwa.exe
Then I wonder.
And how many Potter kids are there to have?
I hear the large crack of a pelvis breaking. :???:
Pluta: And that's where the noises are coming from? :thonk:

Understanding on his face, Harry sighed a little, "I see…" Looking back at the models, he frowned a little, 'I wonder how the shipgirls for them would turn out…'

Right then, unknown to him, several Yokai and one witch who wished to become Idols sneezed and blinked.

Hmm, interesting. So they are undiscovered NBs forming an idol group?
Oh dear. Assuming SJ's guess that 1) Those yokai are the "entertainment ships" and 2) they want to form an idol group is correct, this seems like a recipe for misery and disaster- you know how sexist idol culture is and how fanatical the fans can be. If their career takes off and word gets out they are basically the reincarnated spirits of large mobile brothels, the audience is going to be rather unhappy fanatics in the crowd probably forming a lynch mob. Of course you can't easily kill a shipgirl with whatever the otaku equivalent of torches and pitchforks are, but that would still be a devastating end to their career.

Best case you can hope for is for them to hit the idol state after the world learns what those ships actually were in WW2, so you'll definitely have a limited audience but at least you wont have insane gachikoi screeching about betrayal later on.

A light blush on her face, Ume hummed, "Hai, we have an ammunition factory here in the Caldera, including producing 20" shells… a number of which we have modified into bombs for use against any enemies, especially using San Shiki shells in case we need to fight any Installations."
Jesus. Being infantry on the receiving end of a san-shiki pointed directly downwards sounds utterly horrifying.

I think some of the 'comfort ship' Yokai have already been 'idolized' by Naka and we know she isn't going to let her talent be treated that way. She wants to do it better and nicer and more 'humane' than the rest of the industry...and you really don't want a pissed off traffic cone for abusing her people, but her sneaky platonic life partner might get you first.

Also, considering they're Yokai, Naka used MoCap tech to basically bring about Vtubers a few years early.

I can't hold them! I'm breaking up! breaking up! California shot upright in bed. The nightmare again. She could feel her new boilers pounding in her chest. It was so real! Every moment relived in agonizing detail. Trying to bring up her secondaries and finding them useless... The enemy cruisers running rings around her, hitting her again and again... Trying to hit them with her own 10" guns... Trying to even see her enemies in the smoke... Being so helpless... Useless.

The dreams had been coming more frequently than any time since they had first towed her broken, half dead hulk back into port. Maybe it was because she was finally going out on a real patrol for the first time since her reconstruction.

***

"Remember... This is just a casual cruise from San Diego down to the Gulf of California. Should be nice and quiet," Captain Peters had told her.

Too bad nobody had told the Abyssals that, California mused as she picked up the convoy's SOS. She had been warned not to push her new engines too hard... Well, so much for the little training cruise! She steadily began to apply more speed. Soon, pushing her limits to make almost THIRTY knots! It was a speed she had never dreamed herself capable of! Next, her SG radar picking up the convoy and its attackers at nearly 17 miles! The wonder of such sight was tempered by the knowledge that her enemy might have the same sight. But as she closed, it seemed either the enemy did not have radar or were too busy to pay attention. Either way, she now switched on her new FH fire control set.

"Two light cruisers and looks like four destroyers..."

Ready and...

"That's enough!" California fired off her first salvo. The six 8" shells were almost the same throw weight as her four old 10" shells but at nearly 50% longer range and at TWICE her old rate of fire!"

Her first salvos shattered an Abyssal light cruiser like glass under a hammer and she switched to the second cruiser as the destroyers began to run, only for the convoy escort of USS Omaha and three Butler class DEs to begin cutting them down. It was over soon enough.

California sighed and wiped her brow. Omaha stared at her.

"California?"

"It's me, Omaha. Are you alright?"

"Alright but confused... I thought you were shorter."

"I was."

"What happened?"

"I recommissioned."

How long ago was that? (in the thread, not in-universe) And was it public knowledge that they were Comfort Ships when their idol debut happened?

In any case, I don't doubt Naka's benevolence, but while having strong organizational ethics is certainly a Good Thing it's going to do little to ward off the fanbase crazies that idol singers attract unless they make conscious effort from the beginning to imply they're not welcome.

While you can use Jetzt, Sofort would probably used here, which pretty much means the same thing. Or Jetzt sofort, which pretty much also means the same.
Verdammt, ich drücke!! Wenn ich mit dem Drücken fertig bin, ich werde meinen Mann ermorden, weil er mich dazu gebracht hat, diesen Fußball herauszudrücken!!
Instead of 'drücken', it should be 'pressen'. Once again, german be weird.
Other than these niggles, once again a good snippet, and I can't help but imagine Ehren's doll friends doting on little Wilhelm.

*Snip.
Cue the Captain America theme!

And wouldn't Ehren have said "Schnell" (German for "quickly")?

Also I'm reminded of when Haryana gave birth (does anyone have a link to that snippet?). In that case, if I recall correctly she said "IT'S NOT DAIJOUBU!" Followed by screaming.

Yeah from everything in this (as well as the first) thread, Kamo was a real piece of work. Harry likes planes. (not that I blame him)

From what I've seen most of the resistance to building battleships and/or fleet carriers is coming from the older conservatives on the Diet (the ones that were elected when Japan was still rebuilding) the newer reps see the need but even the JSDF is being very careful about who is on those crews (no ultranationalists)
Its also that China + Korea (and many other Asian nations) have very, very, very long memories. South Korea threw a shitfit over the IRL launch of Izumo, Japan's new 'flight deck destroyer'...

Aka a F-35 capable carrier.

China's response was downright freezing in comparison. And nobody, outside the USA, is willing to provoke the sleeping dragon too much by building up a fleet that might push Chinese hardliners one step too far. They will never let Japan build back up to anywhere near its WW2 levels (its a very open secret that if the USN wasn't where it is in Yokosuka & Sasebo, China would flatten Japan conventionally, to hell with international opinion, and would barely hold back from using canned sunshine).
