Going Full Hollow (Bleach)

014
[23] Try to open a portal to the human world.

"Can't you just open the portal already?"

"I'm working on it." You repeat for the fifth time in what you think is an hour. Creating a portal back to Karakura is going about as well as you thought it would. That is to say, it isn't going anywhere fast.

Tatsuki heaves a sigh in response from the other side of the sand dune. You feel for her, you really do. Sweat pants aren't appropriate to wear on sand, though at least she's barefoot. Your shoes are already gritty on the inside and you haven't even shifted position in a while.

There's no point trying to put an exact time on it because not only did your friend leave her phone on the kitchen counter back in her apartment, but the moon doesn't even have the decency to move through the sky. It just hangs there, a fat crescent in a starless sky accompanied only by the occasional wispy grey cloud.

It's got to be the fourth by now. August fourth and like two in the morning.

But Tatsuki's quieted down again so you resume trying to open a door. "I wanted to get to Soul Society so I got here. So I have to capture that feeling again but for going to Japan. This would be easier if I knew how I did it the first time." You admit.

Something scuffles over in the sand a few dunes over and then suddenly stops moving, the soft sounds of sand scraping against sand ceasing. Zangetsu meets the leaping hollow halfway, flipping the five-legged thing over your body to the other side of the dune. It rounds on you again, then hesitates when you glare it back down.

"Hey!" Tatsuki shouts as she stands. "Fight me."

The hollow obliges, and promptly slashes her across the stomach with one clawed arm, or maybe a leg. Either way it opens four jagged rents in Tatsuki, and just like that it's done for.

A trio of spikes lance out and stab through three of the hollow's limbs as the last bloodies her elbows, which sizzle into bearing broad bone-white blades. It's not a particularly strong hollow. Weaker than Grand Fisher for sure, which means that it's got no chance of escaping from Tatsuki's weird armor-weapon. She steps into the blows as she strikes the hollow's mask, cutting it clean through with one blow.

"Third one so far. They're getting a little. I don't know, boring." She says.

You stop trying to concentrate. This just isn't happening right now. "Well let's go find a menos grande or something."

"Really?" The white bone-liquid is already dissolving into the air, sizzling away the same as it appeared now that the wounds beneath them are healed, though the slashes across her stomach are still pumping the stuff out. How bad was that hit?

"Like hell! You've got to get hurt to use your power, and it'd be stupid to test the limits of how it heals you in a place with so many hollows."

Tatsuki snorts and crosses her arms. "Come on. This place is getting me all pumped up and I want a fight that isn't totally one-sided."

"Have you considered the risks here? What if your leg gets blasted off or something and your power doesn't handle lost limbs. You'd bleed out so fast I couldn't save you even if I could open a door back to Karakura. And besides that menos grande can fire ceros, and you're squishier than a building. Can't regenerate from nothing, Tatsuki."

"I had, Whitey." She replies stonily. "But I'm in another world without most of my friends, there's sand everywhere, it's only luck that I've still got enough clothes left to be decent, I've beaten everything I've fought so fast that I've barely learned anything, and I'm missing the last half of my anime. I'm fine with risking some harm if it'll change at least some of those things."

"That is an enviable attitude to have, young ones."

Ambush!

You spring around, sword already raised in a wild slash that glances off the stranger's arm. "As I said, there is no reward without risk." He smiles a thin, deliberate smile. "I am Shawlong Koufang, the eleventh arrancar of Lord Aizen's army."

"Uh-" You struggle to put together a reaction that isn't violent. Shit- are you supposed to introduce yourself with no name? How does that even work? You knew you shouldn't have left this off!

"He's still trying to figure out a name, but I'm calling him Whitey for now. I'm Tatsuki." Your friend steps past you with her hand extended, and Shawlong shakes it.

He's dressed kind of like you are, in a white robe over loose white pants, and he's a pretty tall guy, but there's one thing that makes you nervous. He feels like a hollow, as if the funky white mask covering his left eye and jutting out the side of his head like a spike weren't enough clue.

You can feel his spiritual pressure without even trying. It's faint, but definitely there.

This guy is pretty damn tough.

You rest Zangetsu on your shoulder. "So what, you recruiting us or something?"

He shrugs. "If that is what you decide, yes, but I think that overall things work best with willing cooperation between relative equals. If you're willing, we can continue this conversation in Hueco Mundo with some refreshments, and I can lay out the many benefits of joining our organization. I sensed your spiritual pressure from some distance on a patrol and decided to investigate following standard orders."

"You had me at refreshments. I'm starved." Tatsuki says, though when she turns to speak to you she frowns and flicks her eyes toward the strange hollow. "What do you think?"

You think-

You think . . .

You fucking hate thinking like this.

Okay, so you've been avoiding point blank telling Tatsuki that you're in large part a hollow, but she's a smart girl. She's probably figured it out already based on the feel of your spiritual energy. That same energy is probably overshadowing her human signature, unless that bite she took out of the tentacle hollow before her powers woke up did what you think it did.

Options. You want options.

"I don't know. We were planning on visiting some . . . friends . . . in Japan but I can't get a portal to open. Could we get a rain check?"

Shawlong blinks slowly, obviously thinking this over. "Yes, if you so wish I could also open a garganta to the general area, however I would advise you to handle your business there and return quickly. Lord Aizen has sent word that soon, within the next few days, he will be returning personally."

"Uh-huh. Yeah that does sound important." You hedge for time.

The hollow's eyes roam over your face, looking for something, before he shakes his head.

Your decision?
[] Fight him. You can take him if you go all out.
[] Agree. There's no harm in a snack and a talk.
[] Postpone. Accept the portal to Karakura.

No write ins.

[X] Postpone. Accept the portal to Karakura.
There is no good solution here. If we catch Aizen's attention so early in the game (or at all, really), we're not neccesarily fucked, but we will need to tread very carefully. Fighting him is out immediately because we can tell already that he is stronger than us. I really don't want to go to Aizen's stronghold yet, as that seems like it would be more likely to attract the attention of a higher up. (Unless people want to join Aizen, of course. I'm okay with that, but would like to get Tatsuki out of the situation first, in which case postpone will let us take her back and then go join Aizen).
Edit:
While postponing and never showing up would raise flags, given how many Hollows Aizen tries to recruit, it's unlikely that we will be deemed high priority. I don't even get why we're being given the speech, given how poorly even thousands of non-Menos enemies Hollow do when faced with a single captain. I suppose we could serve as a distraction for the rank and file shinigami, but they are also completely irrelevant when faced with a single Espada (Except maybe Aaroniero, who was pathetic).

I suppose that a reason to gather a bunch of pathetic, non-Arrancarized hollows is to feed them to each other and make more Menos Grandes. However, given the number of Gillians in the Forest, I'm not sure if that's actually worthwhile. Also, I doubt we would enjoy that.

We... probably can't take him. And walking into their fortress without having a way to get out is just asking to be put in a poor position to bargain.

Probably should let Tatsuki get some new clothes. And I'd like to see everyone's reaction to this. Aizen's probably going to find out about this unless Shawlong ends up dead before he can tell anyone. Weird enough situation to merit being brought up, after all

Shawlong is too strong and fast for us right now. He nearly killed a CAPTAIN, albeit a young, inexperienced one with only 20% max power available. And he was toying with said captain.

We should however get the meet, greet and eat over with now, before Aizen shows up; we're DEFINATELY no match for him.

Guys, guys, guys, GUYS! We're planning to invade Soul Society. The shinigami are our enemies. These guys hate the shinigami! Let's get some goddamn backup, am I right?!

Aizen isn't actually here right now, we may get a chance to not be immediately trapped in an illusion.
