Basically re rolls or get out of death free cards.

We're an ordinary human right now, we probably have no ability to make barriers because gaia doesn't exist in this setting, and we are probably captured by orks or at least in ork territory. Without a good method of killing and leveling, we're screwed. Laser skill provides that method. Warp lore does not.

why would orks arm their slaves with las guns? if we have been captured we start out with nothing but clothes and probably would get a chance to either craft a makeshift weapon or fight them unarmed... hmm, actually it would be very damn interesting to be a gamer captured by orks, unlike other slaves who are worked to death, we will actually survive the harsh labor and thrive in it. the beating will make us stronger, injuries will heal, and skills will be gained. Heck, if we learn to make green paint and learn a disguise skill we can probably pass for an ork enough to challange the warboss eventually and become their leader. which would be utterly hilarious and extremely useful to direct at enemies of the imperium

... or at least have them bring us back to the imperium where they could be disposed of and we could gain our freedom
