"You creatures are just like them, only worse. So caught up in your petty rivalries and self-preservation that you can't grasp the bigger picture."
I wonder... does Myrmidia know that the Skaven are in fact, unified at the moment due to divine mandate? If not... that's gonna be a really nasty surprise for her.

Speaking of which, it's why I'm hesitant to push spreading the plague further than just keeping it active in the south.

In the NW we need a new strain for anti-Ogre work (that could be worthwhile but not this turn), so it'd only weaken Cathay--which we don't want there. We want them strong enough to fight the Ogres back and inflict losses on both sides.

In the NE we want Nippon strong enough to maintain a foothold and overextend before we cut them off at the ports and take their homeland. Plaguing both sides just means everyone sits around puking and they go home discouraged eventually.
Yeah, ATM I'm thinking spend 2 Influence on eshin. One to kill off whoever they send to treat the plague, and one to kill off the Cathayan guards protecting the borders with the Mountains of Mourne so the Ogres can pour in.

Actually, hear me out, given my omake was made canon we have IC reason for Thanquol to go "Snikch is missing? Yep, that's confirmation it's Myrmidia" and ask Verminking about a super-special way to kill/capture her.

Yeah, we should just check that Eshin isn't going to get plagued going in. If they are, they need to be inoculated somehow first or have Pestilens do it (poorly/with more collateral) somehow.

Well, we'd be investing something like 1/13th of the Skaven Underempire's resources, so I imagine things like that would be accounted for, and the disease was meant to harm humans, not Skaven.

But just in case...
@Xantalos
For Turn 2, if we were to put an Authority into Eshin to go sabotage Cathay's attempts to cure the plague and murder the healers, would things like making sure the Assassins don't get sick be precautions already taken into account?

I will admit that the Nipponese arts that can be applied to Eshin are pretty attractive. Eshin's assassins are practically force multipliers when used precisely, so improving their assassination and stealth capabilities is pretty damn useful. As is, either one of them could potentially also be added to Thanquol's repertoire and then passed down to Eshin as well. It helps Eshin doesn't look to have gained any slots.

Here it is.

@Xantalos
Will more information regarding the Eastern conflict following the stuff above be revealed in interludes, or may I ask for more information now?
Interludes ahahahahahahahahahahahaha no I wanna get another turn out in the next year you can ask now.

Yeah, especially since the plague will mostly be fading away in probably the turn after next or something since Pestilens magical plagues don't last super long or spread out of control like normal plagues do - they're more like localized plague curses than actual diseases. So unless you decide to unleash a new one for whatever reason they should be fine.

There are a ton of things the Wood Witch magic could be used for.
- Yasei no Majo - In accordance with their deal with Eshin, the shoguns of Nippon have sent a gathering of woods witches to you in order to teach their magic, which primarily focuses on shapeshifting into and controlling the exotic creatures found on Nippon, various assorted curses and blessings, and some useful magical potions. This project requires 2 Authority to research, which is reduced to 1 if an appropriate hero unit is assigned. The project is made free if Thanquol is assigned on top of this.
Curses go heavily with Pestilens, shapeshifting really helps out Eshin, and controlling animals would be amazing for Moulder.

Ironically, the Grey Seers themselves really don't benefit that much from this magic-set in comparison. They do however, probably benefit a great deal from the Spellsmiths, due to how that equipment is made.

Cool.

So, among other things, I'm curious about the Nipponese Army. How large is it, and what do those Tengu offer in terms of forces? I know the Oni are effectively Ogres, but I don't remember any specifics about the Tengu.

Similarly, how big is the Ogre Kingdom's invasion force?

@Xantalos I don't suppose you could give us a loredump on the eastern nations, especially Ind, Nippon, and the Khuresh Hinterlands? I'd like to see how your interpenetration matches up to mine, as there's a good chance of me starting a quest in one of those nations.
If you guys start doing stuff in Ind or Khuresh I can give you a bit of an info dump then, especially since that'd incentivize me to actually make concrete details instead of the vague details I have right now. I've got some surprises hidden away though, don't worry.

That's honestly kind of a relief. The interludes were very good, but it's the turns that are delicious.

So: How goes the conflict between Nippon and Cathay? Obviously the former had a really strong start, but what's the state of things now, and as far as we can tell the general movements of Cathayan forces?

Cause, i'm thinking, i'm thinking here that we are not going to succed at assasinating her unless we use a ton of authority, and we probably don't want to invade them just yet and remind everyone else that we exist. On the other hand, we definetly can't let her work unmolested. So, instead, we provide a massive distraction and weaken the country by starving them.
My proto-plan is to use our two remaining assassins to find where she is. Then, rather than sending them in, use 3 authority worth of resources to take out the city completely. Initiate a tiny Scavenblight Vermintide, with the goal of killing her and silencing all cries for help. To get out of it, she would either have to bait her location from the two best trackers and killers in our Empire or fight her way out of an army powerful enough to conquer a small nation.

If we pull it off well enough, we may even recover Snikch in good enough condition to turn into a cyborg, but I'm more concerned with ending her.

To add to this, the blessings would give Horriphilia a bit of nitche they could develop.

I don't think it has started yet, Eva. They've ransacked the coastal villages, and have started the invasion with the Dragon Emperor being none the wiser. The Ogres are still mobilizing towards Cathay, and the plague in their breadbasket is devastating. External pressure is continuing to mount as well. However, it doesn't seem open warfare will start until next turn.

My ambitious is sacifire Myrmida to the horn rat thought, that should buff our divine power a lot.

Maybe try to use thirteen bell to change Estalia population to skaven.

Perhaps. But, first off, it's not Skavenblight, that's the name of the capital of the Underempire. The appropriate term, is Vermintide.

And second,

I'm fairly certain by this point that she's been going all over Estalia, so I'd rather we just invaded the whole place, and Tilea as well if we can spare the influence. I think the Skaven did that in canon and nobody seemed to care that much.

Which is going to be glorious by the way.

Ogres vs Cathay vs Nipponese vs Chaos in a four-way battle for rule of the east. All while the Skaven slink around in the background, cackling to themselves about how their enemies are doing the Skaven's work for them.

In the End Times, you mean. And that's not viable because Tilea and Estalia effectively didn't matter whatsoever, Bretonnia had been fucked up by civil war and undead (and generally kind of nerfed) the Empire was just fucking around with problems internal and from all sides, and such. It's not the best comparison.

As is, I'd prefer to see what the situation is, what Myrmidia does, and maybe probably get that answer from Skreech, before deciding exactly what to do about Estalia and Myrmidia.

Right, so remember these aren't exact numbers and they can/will be fudged for drama if necessary.

Nippon's about ... 700, 800 thousand soldiers or so in the entirety of its forces. Ish. They're throwing around 450 thousandish at Cathay right now to set up a beachhead for reinforcements kinda deal. Tengu are basically bird themed beastmen that are a lot less killy and more greedy due to the influence of the ka.

The ogres ... it's not so much an invasion as a migration. You guys killed I think 200k in the dark lands, about 20% of them in the mountains got mulched by the dragon ogres, and everyone else jumped ship, which makes it about ... a few million? Maybe more depending on what my gut says later on? There's a reason it took a whole year (actually more, they start arriving this turn) to reach Cathay, there were a lot of the fuckers to move.

It's ... actually I don't know at the moment, I haven't written the turn post up yet and I kinda just intuit everything when I'm doing that. Don't worry, you'll get those details.

So was the intent with the Cathay actions to try and get as many forces bogged down there, freeing us up to act? Also is there anyway we could mutate the ogres into useful Skaven?

As it is I see that balancing between seizing and taking out Order without letting Chaos get too strong for our eventual backstab is going to be an issue.

Going back to Cathay, they should be coming under attack from the Chaos forces north of the wall as well, along with tying up the ogres and Nippon. That leaves Ind out East. I could see some support given to the ogres to let them make some headway in and force Cathay to put effort into slowing them down, on the flip side keeping Cathay afloat means we have two, likely three other factions tied down (Chaos Hung and maybe the Hobgoblin Khanate).

I do think in the coming turn getting some of that research that we unlocked like the Spell smiths and more of the Chaos-Dwarf stuff would be good. Maybe also put some characters on looking for more Skaven heroes.

Far as you can tell us, did they manage to do any appreciable damage to the Dragon Ogre population of the Mourne? Those fatasses aren't pushovers.

There's stories of a few of them being killed, and they're probably true. Trouble is the dragon ogres didn't wake up in the mountains of mourn, they woke up in the Ancient Giant Lands, the super-tall Sky Titan ruins that even the ogres don't go to 'cause it's too dang cold. So there wasn't really any opportunity to pounce on them while they were waking up like you did in the Vaults, they woke up, organized, then bulldozed out into the Mourn like an electrified freight train.

What's with the monks? What can they do? Are they physical magic users like my headcanon is, giant dragon-people like Imrix's, or what?

Ah, so this isn't a chaotic mass-awakening, it's an organized assault.

Did the giants there give them any trouble? Or are there none? I mean, Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos suggests the inbred variety remain, but...

In light of this folks, and given the general issue they're gonna be elsewhere like the World's Edge and with Chaos, I propose perhaps having the Vault veterans meet with others (Moulder and Pestilens and maybe Skyre and the Grey Seers) and collectively come up with some anti-Dragon Ogre stuff.

I'll wait until the turn post goes up because reacting to infiltration news may show interesting things to instead capitalize on immediately, but very roughly I'm starting to crystallize around:

3 Authority - Silencing of Myrmidia
--Research Scripture of Hashut (Thanquol+Drazhoath), spread appropriately to Moulder and other interested parties through Grimoire construction+teaching (should be 0 auth cost)
--Finish Taurus Mutation tree as Scripture of Hashut is learned (Stitch)
--Eshin spies locate and Myrmidia and Snikch, prepare for retrieval, hard confirm what city she is in (Sneek)
--When forces are ready, Moulder+Mors+Navy with Grey Seers support erases the target city. Eshin strikes to cause chaos and retrieve Snikch while tracking Myrmidia, along with ensuring a cordon is around the city so no one leaves. Navy scuttles or captures the ships, Moulder shock troops lead the way with the new finished Skittaurs with Mors providing the clean sweep. When everything is done, loot the city bare and leave no evidence of Skaven behind. (Gnawdell)

(NOTE: Obviously this is overkill at first blush but it's due to wrapping the research actions into this as fight prep to get a brand new thing to throw at Myrmidia. For the record, I also support using The Question on Myrmidia and so I expect this set to change quite a bit, this is just based on what we know now.)

5 Authority - Sack of Black Pyramid
--Rictus necromancy spread (Rictus heroes)
--USA and Skyre mobilization, get lots of new ratkit launchers and blender carts produced to deal with undead chaff. Prepare anti-ethereal counter. Prepare anti-necromancer counter. (Paskrit, Ikit Claw) [need more expansion, might as well do the Blender Carts free with Ikit here]
--Loot it and blow the whole thing up when it's time to go

1 Authority - Eshin assassinate anti-plague efforts in Cathay (Veskit)

3 Authority - Misc R&D
--spread Lore of Azgorh
--Skalm under Horripila(?)
--Yasei no Majo cost reduced under Kritislik
--Basic Hygiene free under Morbag
--Nipponese animals free under Verminkin

Hrmmm, are they still at the Sky-Titan Ruins? If not, it might be interestign to send a research group over there.
They're kinda all over that whole blob of mountains.

Ah, so this isn't a chaotic mass-awakening, it's an organized assault.

Did the giants there give them any trouble? Or are there none? I mean, Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos suggests the inbred variety remain, but...
That was effectively their deal with the warp: you get immortality in exchange for helping kill the world.

There were probably some Giants in those mountains, but you haven't heard anything about them.

What's with the monks? What can they do? Are they physical magic users like my headcanon is, giant dragon-people like Imrix, or what?
There's multiple kinds, from what you've heard. The Moth's Fur that happened across your plague were all about using energy to heal, restore balance, all that stuff. You've heard stories of there being more fighty monks, but the orders are usually fairly reclusive so you haven't really seen their abilities displayed.

If you do end up running a far eastern warhammer quest, feel free to PM me about my headcanon for this stuff, just don't use that knowledge in this quest 'till it's revealed.

@Xantalos
If Ikit Claw wanted to learn Daemonbinding, is there anything stopping him? This is without us ordering him to do so or putting Authority on it.

@Spectrum
Given the circumstances and how learning god-stuff could tie into the potential for sacrificing Myrmidia, I'm reasonably ok with not putting Authority on the Chaos Dwarf machines and gear for the moment and instead going for finishing the Taurus tree.

That being said, if we end up considering things and having Authority, I would support more the Wargear than the War Machines, because it'll help with the eventual finish of the War Machines along with not requiring as much.
