Fractured Fantasy: A CK2 Style Final Fantasy quest

It's also been a ton of fun working with Griffin in the background on where everyone is and what they can get up to.

Edit: This is also why I do not participate in voting. Insider knowledge would make it unfair.

Also I find it amazing Mess when we have Post Death Aerith and Crisis Core pre Niflheim Sephirot in the same story. Poor guy would be very confused as to why the girl freaks out whenever he shows up.
Yeah, if he ran into her without knowing she's Aerith he'd... well, I imagine people being intimidated by him is just something he's got sort of depressingly used to. Wonder if Genesis and Angeal put it together Aerith collapsed because of Sephiroth? I half see them (mostly G) teasing him over it while being concerned.

I thank you for your respect and your restraint. Having someone to bounce ideas off of has been incredibly helpful and a lot of fun. As you have probably learned, I love talking about my ideas a lot, so having someone I can safely spill the beans to is probably what has prevented me from spoiling my own story a dozen times over.

So thank you. :)

I still think that Lustrous Shield is better pick at the moment since having Aerith use her best stat regardless of attack type as long as she has mana/is not silenced is a better option considering how close we were to biting it last turn.
Mmm, the thing for me is that, while it's pretty good, it also feels relatively situational compared to just making something an AoE when need be?
Don't get me wrong, it's good for when it happens. But also, how many defensive martial rolls is Aerith going to roll? In the last fight, it would have been handy, but we also still ended up only using it once, and that's with a heavily imbalanced team that had almost no other forms of damage mitigation.

Well, I'm not too torn up about not getting the AoE option, at any rate. Especially since the AoE option could be invalidated later on if Aerith does get the training for it, while even if we only use it once every other encounter, Shield's a permanent boost.

I kinda figure that assuming Rinoa is Sorceress, she (and perhaps others of the VIII gang) are a bit of an exception?
... Wait, we have confirmation that Rinoa is a sorceress in the quest?
For the record, I thought that characters aren't necessarily from the same time, even from the same game. Like we very well may have Disk 3 Irvine with Disk 1 Squall running around. (Which would be really funny. Can you imagine Squall during his push-people-away phase, surrounded by people who are insistent that they're his friends and allies and would die for him?)
This extends to my omakes, too--All my omakes are written with "okay, what story about [character] do I want to tell?" as my first question. xP
... Though I guess, in my case it kind of helps that I'm not good at wrapping things up cleanly anyway... ^^;

Also I find it amazing Mess when we have Post Death Aerith and Crisis Core pre Niflheim Sephirot in the same story. Poor guy would be very confused as to why the girl freaks out whenever he shows up.
Sephiroth: Hello.
Aerith: It's HIM! *faints*
Sephiroth: Ugh, not another one of the fangirls.

Some things would have stayed the same, some would have changed. I planned on everyone starting in Dalmasca, as a nice neutral territory where they could get stabilized. Though I may have had Aqua start in Traverse Town for the fun of it. Their playstyles and opportunities would have been a bit different. Cecil knows the knighthood well and may have had a chance to be inducted into the Dalmasca Knights, for example.

Each character's Destined Foe would have been elevated in status to make sure they were a long-running, consistent threat. Stuff like, Sin showing up early for Tidus, or Kefka already being God of Magic for Celes. And their game's party members and allies would have been carefully seeded around the world for you to find.

Paths not chosen and all that. It would have been fun, but we're on Aerith's Wild Ride right now.

Definitely sounds super fun. Some parallels I can easily see. Also interesting what that all implies for Jenova.

Oh! And that's

How often is our protagonist, who regularly gets into fights to the death with monsters and others, likely to get someone trying to either stab or shoot her?

I mean, I gotta figure it's going to be "often enough".

Worth noting that in this fight we had a guy who was able to simply intercept melee attacks at Aerith because he's a gallant protector of women like that. We don't actually have anyone with that kind of skillset in our standard roster.

The fight itself also lasted 5 turns and we had Both Zidane and Shadow to, In that order: Cover For Aerith from Turn 2 onwards and Shadow's Vanish Scroll (which we were lucky to have) removing her from Combat (As far as Physical Combat was concerned) entirely during Turn 4.

Our current Main Party entirely lacks that Luxury (Neither Freya or Alfyn can cover for others and Agnea is in even worse position than Aerith in that regard) meaning Aerith will likely be target of roughly 1 out of 4 attacks and I'd assume larger portion of rank and file enemies is more proficient at stabbing than at casting. Similarly there are only handful of situations where AoE we can only use every 3 to 6 turns is going to make a significant impact unless Aerith is without other Heroes. Even then we have our Staff for Emergency Healing, Shiva for Emergency Wipe the field.

Depending on what Actions we can take next turn we could alsoprobably try and fix Aerith's Lack of Formal Mage Training. Shame we have no access to the likes of Minwu, Tellah or Lulu (the only properly trained Mages I can think off that would be able to do the teaching) but maybe Ashe could be of Help? Or with the access to Clan Centurio resources (Thanks to Alfyn working himself to the bone while we had fun in Midgard) maybe there's someone that can train Mages? They do sell licenses after all, right?

good point here, plus having stronger defence means there'll be less need to go to big lengths to ensure defence in the future, which seems good for getting stuff done/saving resources

Yeah Unironically from my personal perspective the party we had during Jenova Fight was pretty well off defensively. And that's excluding Steiner we could have swapped in and Agnea being technically 5th party member since she had a good spot to support us from.

Our weakness was mostly lack of recovery options since Aerith despite knowing Cure is still primarily a Black Mage-in-training. Hopefully we'll have a chance to fix that and make her more well rounded considering we can't exactly rely on getting Materia we need.

For a more serious answer, Lulu may also be playing catch-up a bit since this setting has eight elements settling into four oppositions instead of four and two plus some weird outliers in Demi and Holy.

For the answer all know to be true, she'd absolutely get hung up on wordplay in her lessons. Like, she even has puns for spells that don't exist in her section of the grid. Osmose is off in Wakka's grid, and,

Lulu: "Care to share your thoughts?"

Turn 9

Local Events (Rabanastre)

Sinspawn Hunt

The Crusaders of Yevon seemed terrified by the Sinspawn, convinced that it would call its master to this world if allowed to persist. The group that ultimately took up the challenge would be Clan Centurio. They were warned over and over again of the Sinspawn's power and fierceness, but the Clan insisted on taking the challenge.

Hunt Roll
D100= 100
Automatic Crit!

The Sinspawn was dead in a week, along with a hundred sinscales. The Church of Yevon is deeply grateful… and also quite baffled. The Crusaders often struggled against a single sinspawn, and this hunter clan killed one just like that?

[The Sinspawn in the Dalmasca Region has been killed]
[Sin is ???]
[Flush with success and Gil, Clan Centurio has paid an additional Fund this turn.]

Waves of Darkness

There were preexisting rumors about these vicious black beasts that haunted the region around the so-called "City of the Bright Night." A place somehow wrapped in darkness, yet brimming with light. Apparently, the rumors were both true, and also a rather large understatement.

Swarming masses of shadow haunt the region around the City of Night, teeming with lamplike yellow eyes. The regular caravans to and from Padarak have started moving further west to avoid confrontation.

[The black beasts are swarming. All exploration or travel done near the southeastern Dalmasca region may be forced to contend with heartless attacks.]
[The City of Night prepares for a Siege…]

Investigation into The Thief

DC: ???
D100= 14+19 (Ashe)= 33
Failure!

Whoever the thief was who stole from Dalmasca's treasury, they managed to hide their tracks well. The Knights have been doing their best to investigate, but without much evidence, they've been forced to cast a wide net and hope to catch something.

Needless to say, it went poorly

[No progress has been made]

An Offer From Shadow

'You have been a very reliable employer. Prompt payment, no double crossing, jobs that play to my skills… So I've come to make an offer. If you pay a lump sum, I'd be willing to stay on retainer for a time.'

[Shadow offers to work for you long term. Details are in the "Actions" section.]

World Events

Midgar Mastiffs vs Ronso Fangs!

D100= 8+ 38= 46 vs 72+ 16= 88
Lost The Game!

The Midgar Mastiffs' impressive run was finally ended by the Ronso Fangs. Their usual aggressive style proved ineffective against the tall and muscular Ronso. All of Spira breathed a sigh of relief, but that didn't mean the Mastiffs' run was over.

[The Spirans are relieved that the Mastiff's aggressive run has ended.]
[Team Captain Tidus was reportedly very, very upset that he lost the game]

Timber Reactor: Site Searching

Due to a combination of aid from Shinra's Urban Development division and a lack of obstructions, the railroad between Midgar and Timber was finished in record time. As per their previous agreement, Shinra plans to build a reactor near Timber.

The leader of Urban Development, Reeve, is going there himself in order to search for the best spot to begin construction on the reactor, and oversee its construction

[Mako Reactor Construction in Timber will begin next month]

Yusnaan Allies With The Dwarves

Setzer managed to obtain a little info in Yusnaan, apparently, there is a nation of dwarves near the City of Revelry. In exchange for the right to use Pandaemonium to create high-quality minerals to fuel their industry.

He also met a few dwarves, and describes them as cheerful and rowdy folks. He liked them.

[An alliance is forged between Yusnaan and the Dwarven Kingdom]

Carnelian Gambit (Returner News)

The Returners had news worth celebrating, at least to though who detested the Empire. The Court Mage, Kefka, attacked a nearby settlement known as Baron, and was slowly wearing them down. His troops were tired and depleted, but even the fearsome Red Wings of Baron couldn't push him aside. But then, Baron stopped fighting.

Kefka managed to push into Castle Baron, only to find the castle and town were deserted. Perhaps he would have been willing to call it a win…If the castle didn't explode and crumble around him, killing half of his men in a whirling firestorm.

The Court Mage swore revenge- not because of the men who died, but because someone managed to trick him, and bruise his ego. That someone's name…

Is Golbez

[Kefka hounds Golbez and the men of Baron who escaped him]

Crystal Formation (Ice) [Chaos Event]

An Agent of Chaos managed to destroy the Ice Crystal, the one you know was stored in the Kingdom of Baron. The planet should have cried out, should have erupted in rage and sorrow as a piece of Order was destroyed forever! The planet did not weep. For the most miraculous thing happened instead.

A second Crystal was formed.
[The Ice Crystal in Baron is destroyed.]
[A new Ice Crystal has appeared, preventing Chaos from gaining a foothold]

Journal

Things have been getting a bit hectic, and I've been learning a lot recently, so I decided to start writing a little journal. To try and keep track of the things I want to do, things to be worried about, and opportunities. So without further ado...

Where Are My Friends?

  • Cloud is in Lostime, having lost his memory.
  • Tifa is in Vector, she joined the Returners
  • Barret is in Lostime, on a pilgrimage with Yuna and Rydia
  • Cid is in Traverse Town, under attack by the "shadows"
  • Reeve is in Timber, dragging his feet on building a Mako reactor.
  • I don't know where Mom is, but I have this letter saying she's safe. It's stamped with the image of a scale, a curved sword, and a flower.
  • Vincent, Yuffie, and Nanaki are still missing…

Where Are The Crystals?

  • The Wind Crystal has already been found within Cleyra in Dalmasca's territory
  • The Fire Crystal lies beneath the city of Lestallum within the Gestahlian Empire's territory
  • The Water Crystal lies within the city of Walse in the Church of Yevon's territory.
  • The Earth Crystal lies within the mine of Gollund in Shinra's territory
  • The Ice Crystal lies within the Kingdom of Baron has ended up somewhere else.
  • The Lightning Crystal lies within Home in the Church of Yevon's territory.
  • The Holy Crystal lies within Traverse Town in Dalmasca's Territory.
  • The Dark Crystal lies within the Dwarven Kingdom, in Cocoon's territory.

Concerns

  • Freya found some clues on the Thief, but wasn't able to bring it to Ashe's attention. From the sounds of things, the investigation has been going… poorly.
  • The planet itself warned me of some kind of catastrophe on the horizon in the Gestahlian Empire's territory. From the sounds of things, it won't be happening immediately, we have time to try and head it off. But if the planet itself is warning me of a tragedy… It must be bad.
  • The shadows attacking Traverse Town and Cid are swarming in huge numbers. Cid has apparently repelled them twice before, but it still looks bad.
  • Reeve is working on the Mako Reactor for Timber. If we leave him to his own devices, he might come up with a plan to delay it or destroy it. Or he might not.

Opportunities

  • Clan Centurio and Tantalus both owe us a favor. Calling those in for some help on a hunt or a heist could be useful. Make sure to show gratitude.
  • The only thing left before starting a proper business/hunting clan/or whatever else strikes your fancy is an HQ. Not technically necessary, but running one out of the house you live in would be… ill-advised.
  • Alfyn made some really impressive stuff over the course of the month. Incense, tea, perfume- it's kind of amazing what he did with only natural ingredients from the garden and a few he bought.

Turn 9 Actions

Current Funds: 9
Note: Aerith doesn't have control of a faction, but she does have allies. Faction Actions may have a single hero assigned to them, and all heroes may perform a single Personal Action. Further, some former Faction Actions have been altered to Personal Actions.
Note: Setzer has 2 Favors left.

Martial

[ ] Explore the Desert Around Dalmasca: After what you've been through, the desert seems pretty safe. There still might be interesting places or things to find in it though.[DC: 50] (Reward: Find locations of interest or items.)

[ ] Practice fighting in Formation: Fighting on the Prima Vista gave you a healthy respect for the idea of formations. [DC: 60] (Reward: Unlock "Formations" during adventures or combat)

[ ] Accompany Clan Centurio On A Hunt: Clan Centurio is the up-and-coming favorite Hunter Clan for a reason. Attending them on a hunt would be a good way to learn about the art of hunting. [DC: None] (Reward: Small amount of EXP for accompanying hero. Particularly high rolls may increase Martial by a small degree)

[ ] Hunt The Waterway Monster: You don't know exactly what it is yet, but you do know that it's venomous, potentially poisonous, and has some kind of stinger or barb that produces asterisk-shaped wounds. The first thing that comes to mind is a scorpion but if it's really the apex predator of the Waterway, it has to be a pretty nasty one right? [DC: None.] (Reward: Trigger Battle at the end of the turn)

[ ] Try to Push Through The Shadows: Cid is in danger. Even if he wasn't a member of the team for long, he was still a dear friend. It'll be hard to get through the swarm, but you can try. [DC: ???] (Reward: Trigger Adventure Phase. Push through to Traverse Town and make contact with the people there. Note: Every time the roll fails, this will trigger a battle. After the battle, you may choose to either keep going and roll again or retreat.)

[ ] Fly Over The Shadows With The Blackjack: It's a rare monster that's brave enough to engage with an Airship directly. Flying to Cid's aid should be easier than fighting your way there manually. That doesn't mean it's without risk, though. [DC: ???] (Note: Costs 1 of Setzer's Favors. Reward: Trigger Adventure Phase. Fly to Traverse Town and make contact with the people there.)

Diplomacy

[ ] Start A Faction: You are very, very close to having everything you need. You have money, a small but steady stream of income, a positive reputation, and allies. The only thing you're really missing is some kind of HQ, but you should be able to sort that out… [DC: None] (Reward: Create a faction. Unlock more personal actions for Aerith)

[ ] Question the Shinra Caravan: You know what they're doing in Timber, building a Mako reactor. But you don't know the specifics yet. A few pointed questions might help. [DC: 60] (Reward: Learn more about Shinra's actions and their presence in Timber. Also learn where Timber is on a map.)

[ ] Try Getting Closer To The Returners: It's understandable that they'd be a little… well, twitchy, being rebels and all. But you really just want to help. [DC: 60] (Reward: Learn about the Returners.)

[ ] Arrange A Meeting Between Tantalus and Ashe: The thought occurred to you. Tantalus is full of thieves, really good ones. Ashe is looking for a thief. It might be a bit odd to hire a thief to catch a thief, but they could do it. [DC: 80] (Reward: Tantalus will add their Intrigue to Dalmasca's next roll to find The Thief)

Stewardship

[ ] Open a Stall in the Bazaar: You aren't going to be pushed away or ignored this time. You have a lovely selection of goods, and it would be hard for you to not break even. [DC: 10/30/50/70] (Reward: Gain 0/1/2/3 Funds depending on the tier of success. Slightly improves Aerith's reputation)

[ ] Make a Deal with Migelo: Migelo is a friend of yours who owns a sundries shop. It wouldn't be hard to put a few of your products on the shelf. [DC: 50] (Reward: Gain 1 passive income per turn, as your products are sold at Migelo's shop)

[ ] Open a Store: It's going to be a lot of work. You need to find and purchase some property, prepare a bunch of products, and hire some people to run the place when you're busy adventuring… It's going to be a lot of work. But if you knuckle down, you can do it. [DC: 60] [Costs 6 Funds] (Reward: Open a Store, a source of passive income, as well as a potential Faction HQ for a business-type faction)

[ ] "Repurpose" An Undercity Building: If outright buying one on the surface is too expensive, you could always try finding one in the Undercity. It would be cheaper, but keep in mind the 'reputable' sort usually don't visit the Undercity. [DC: 80] [Costs 3 Funds] (Reward: Acquire a building in the Undercity.)

Intrigue

[ ] Find the Black Market: Some goods are illegal for a reason, but others might be something you can put to good use. But first, you have to find the Black Market itself. [DC: 60] (Reward: Gain access to the Black Market, where rare and often illegal goods are sold)

[ ] Steal from the Shinra Caravan: There's a chance they're on high alert due to the breakout in the Shinra building. Although there's an equal chance that only the Turks and executives know about it. [DC: 70] (Reward: Obtain Funds, and potentially steal equipment or Materia)

[ ] Look For The Thief: Freya found some evidence of the thief's movements through the waterway, but where exactly they went is still a mystery. [DC: ??? -20] (Reward: Find The Thief, or at least evidence of where they're going. Share what you know with Ashe)

[ ] Monitor Resistance Communications: The Resistance and the Returners are still communicating using the dead drops and old communication relays. You could learn a good deal about what the Returners are dealing with by keeping an eye on it. [DC: Auto Pass] (Reward: Learn about the Returner's situation and their actions)

[ ] Check The Waterway Monster's Den: You still wonder what's down there. It might not be a big deal, not like it's been going out and attacking people or anything, but it's still a big concern to have such a big monster in the waterway. (DC: 50) (Reward: Identify the sewer monster.)

Learning

[ ] Research Chaos: Chaos sounds like some kind of… demon or something. Some odd, unnatural entity, or a dark god. Surely there must be some kind of records, right? [DC: 80] (Reward: Obtain information on Chaos)

[ ] Monster Research: Knowing what you're going to be up against is always helpful. If you know their strengths and weaknesses, you can fight them more effectively. [DC: 40/60] (Identify monsters in the Dalmasca region, providing additional information in combat and lowering the DC of monster hunts. Chance to uncover the identity of the monster in the Waterway)

[ ] Visit Padarak: With the trade route properly in place, visiting Padarak would be as easy as hitching a ride or walking. You're kinda curious what the kingdom is like. [DC: Auto Pass] (Reward: Unlock Actions related to or in Padarak. Potentially meet heroes from Padarak)

[ ] Research "The Shadows": They're odd creatures for sure, but they can't have just come from nowhere. There may be tomes about them hidden in the library, or perhaps a survivor of an attack can tell you about them. [DC: 80] (Reward: Gain information about The Heartless)

[ ] Research Airships: On the surface, airships seem to be one of those "universal constants" that almost everyone from every world knows about. But that doesn't mean they're all the same. In Dalmasca alone you've got the Prima Vista powered by a Mist Engine, the Skystone powered Dalmasca ships, and the Blackjack has a Magitek engine. [DC: 60] (Reward: Learn pros and cons of different airship types. Unlock actions related to airships in the future.)

Personals

[ ] Visit Lostime: Funny that you would reunite with your friends in the same place twice, though Barret hopefully remembers who you are… Oh right, you can buy more mystery seeds.
[ ] Practice Self-Defense: It's not really your fault, you don't have any real training. But it still feels bad when you're the softest target in your party. That isn't going to change overnight, though, you'll have to put the work in.
[ ] Go Shopping: There's plenty to buy in Rabanstre's shops, medicine, weapons, armor, magic items, so on and so on. It could be useful, but it's also going to be expensive.
[ ] Attend a Yevonite Sermon: You're just curious at this point. Wakka gave you a little information, but it wasn't enough for you to form a full opinion.
[ ] Study White Magic With Garnet: Garnet is a properly trained White Mage, on top of being a summoner. She could definitely teach you some things.
[ ] Home Brew Potions: It's always a good idea to keep a healthy stock of medicine on hand.
[ ] Ply Your Trade: Hey, you're an Apothecary. It's what you do.
[ ] Practice Your Axework: As much as you'd rather end everything peacefully… that's not always going to happen. It's best to stay sharp just in case.
[ ] Read About Dalmascan Folklore: You remember what that old librarian said to you. Maybe reading up some Folklore wouldn't be so bad?
[ ] Train: The only way to stay in top form is to train and practice constantly. Perform some katas to maintain your strength.
[ ] Hunt On Your Own Time: You've become quite an accomplished hunter during your time in Dalmasca. Killing lesser prey for a little coin is well within your skillset
[ ] Visit Aerith for… "Girl Talk": You both have troubles with matters of the heart.
[ ] Visit Lostime For A Honing: The work that Freja did on your spear was wonderful. You wonder what she could do with a bit more time.
[ ] Catch Up With Zidane: Zidane lives a colorful life and tends to see a lot of things. It's been a long time since you've seen each other; might as well play catchup.
[ ] Meet Aerith's Friends: You first met Aerith on the Prima Vista, so you haven't been properly introduced to her friends yet. Time to fix that!
[ ] Perform At A Local Tavern: It's not glamorous, but that's fine. You're only at the start of your journey, and you have a lot to learn.
[ ] Visit Ruby: After the whole 'stowaway' thing, Tantalus had every reason to be mad at you. Instead, they basically ruffled your hair and let you join the team. Ruby even invited you for tea! She's sweet.
[ ] Path Action: Entreat: It's not begging; it's charming. Even you're surprised at how effective a sweet smile can be.

Hire Shadow?

[ ] 2 months for 1 Fund
[ ] 4 months for 2 Funds
[ ] 6 months for 3 Funds
(Note: If Hired, Shadow can be put to work immediately)

The Random Event Dice Gods were... interesting in this section. You have no idea how gobsmacked I was when, on the same turn one of the crystals was under attack, I rolled "Crystal Formation" on the Chaos Chart. I also thought the Sinspawn might be a consistent threat but uh. Clan Centuro said no. On the other hand Tidus ate his first Blitzball loss since he came to this realm.

There will be a Moratorium until 12:00 CST Monday. Use that time to vote and plan.

Also, if I mysteriously vanish for a few days, that would be because my power might get knocked out by a storm. I'm not in any danger, don't worry.

OK, we definitely need to get to Reve to smack them out of this funky has…. Let's go meet up with one of our old friends. It's gonna be nice to have Barrett back… I hope the others are OK

So I think the best way of contacting our old friends is by getting in contact with the returners, probably helping them and getting Tifa on our team and going to timber talking to Reeve and getting his help again… it sucks about the ice crystal, but we are so lucky it got reformed….

We just don't know where anymore.

I'm definitely for flying over to Twilight Town and contacting Cid and Kain. It would cost a Seitzer favour but with both Cid and a Crystal there I think it's worth it.

For the Diplomacy action I think we should go for Timber, the Mako Reactor isn't built yet so the sooner we get there, the better.

For Stewardship, I think opening a Store is the play here. It's just very useful to have, even if we decide to go with something else as a HQ.

For Intrigue, I'm thinking Monitoring the Resistance, since we need info on the Returners before the disaster happens, and I already advocated for Timber for Diplomacy.

The only one I'm less sure of is Learning. If we had a hero with good Learning numbers, I'd say go for the Airships, Shadows or Chaos, but we don't really have anyone that's good at it. Might have to wait to get someone else, and going to Padarak might allow us to find someone.

Also we obviously hire Shadow, but I don't know for how long. 4 funds so we can have a cushion maybe?

[ ] Look For The Thief: Freya found some evidence of the thief's movements through the waterway, but where exactly they went is still a mystery. [DC: ??? -20] (Reward: Find

This option appears to have been cut off.

So the Dark Crystal is now "least concern", what with the Dwarves' new alliance with Yusnaan, but we should really get a lead on investigating the impending Gestahlian Situation. I'm thinking that's what we do with Intrigue this turn, since a better understanding of the Returners' situation and problems will make the pitch to them easier.

...or, more broadly, I agree with Alys, though I do also think getting into Padarak for networking purposes is solidly the best idea out of what we've got.

As for personals, I think Aerith should Study With Garnet and Freya should engage girl talk with Aerith. The other two I'm leaning Study Folklore and Meet Aerith's Friends, but less immediately sold on them.

update!
wild crit, takes a priority off the board and it's fun that we got in the relevant clan before it happened (wonder what it'd be like if we got in earlier and got to participate directly with them? though that would have probably changed the rolling system and we might never have gotten the nat 100)

shadow offering to stay on retainer's a nice deal too :) not sure what's best, i guess it's a matter of just buying their actions in advance? which is good to ensure they stay available, but costs the same. cool with whatever works, we probs don't want to buy it for all time (because if an alternate hero pops up we won't need him as much) but i don't see that happening in the next 1/2 turns so shouldn't need to worry

good to have updates on relevant situations. note that the shadow siege seems to be intensifying (higher priority+it'd help others to clear it out), the thief situation's at large, and Reeve's definitely at Timber (so available to chat if we go there)

uh, we might have issues with the crystals, however.
if they're legitimately able to be destroyed in a short span of time like this (ignore restoration, that probs won't happen again and even if it does there'd be a period where it's still destroyed) i'd definitely increase the priority of going to the holy one (it's immediately accessible+we know the most about the situation)

hm, reading our journal's listed opportunities, we have favors: that brings to mind that maybe if we deal with the thief, Ashe will owe us enough of a favour to consider major deployment of force to help out against the shadow seige? assuming that would be enough to solve it, at least...

don't have a full plan, but my priorities are to adress concerns and try to set ourselves up for the future
martial: we may want to try and get through shadows, but not sure if it's viable/effective. remember that we need to save at least one for the Empire catastrophe, so spending it here may be bad!
diplomacy: getting closer to returners would be good for dealing with the incident. i don't think Tantalus is best for the thief when we're already making progress ourselves and the DC is high? though meeting reeve's a priority too, yeah. both would benefit from doing before they're needed/require followup afterwards, so need to see which is better to do first
stewardship: now we have products, getting migelo to stock them for easy funds seems more effective? getting a store(either above or below) could be good too, def favoring long-term benefits over the short-term stall ones. after that we'd want to hire people in order to consistently produce stuff without taking our time, though. don't want to add up responsibilities (personal use, centurio, shop) and have them get unreasonable
intrigue: probs best to hunt for the thief at this juncture? if the DC is too risky then the black market could be good setup for later/give us a lead on the thief (identifying the monster is safe, but the extra action required may be too expensive)
learning: monster research may be a efficient way to identify the sewers thing, however! (since this gives more rewards than just that? i guess low dc is monster info, high DC the full stuff? so we just need to get both). also may seem good to get other long-term stuff, but lower DCs and a advantage in battles is legitimately valuable?
personals: we can do lostime on this instead of a national, sounds like a great deal for personal stuff
prioritise hero unit interaction/teamwork for the rest, gotta have everyone trust eachother and such

Setzer managed to obtain a little info in Yusnaan, apparently, there is a nation of dwarves near the City of Revelry. In exchange for the right to use Pandaemonium to create high-quality minerals to fuel their industry.
this seems to cut off, griffinlw?
(thanks for adding the journal, btw)

Okay, that was a rollercoaster of a update.

I had the same reaction as The Church of Yevon when clan Centurio kicked kicked the sinspawn's butt like it was nothing. I was dreading how we would face that thing and the problem just resolved itself. Don't get me wrong, i'm really grateful to the hunters for saving us the trouble, but I'm still processing that they did it.

Moving on to the bad news, Cid is in trouble and needs our help. I think this should be our priority this turn, as i fear that if we take too long with the heartless, there won't be a Cid to save anymore.

Shadow's offer came in a very good time. Personally, I say we go big and hire him for 6 months. Yeah it's the most expensive, but has there been any turn so far in wich he wasn't of great help to us? His Intrigue modifier is a great asset and it would make our job so much easier if we didn't have to spend 1 fund each turn. 3 funds for 6 months is honestly a great investment.

Chaos' event gave me some serious whiplash. One moment I'm panicking because apparently Chaos can destroy the crystals just like that in one of his events, and the next I'm processing that another disaster was avoided by the dices in the same turn and the planet just remade the crystal. That took me a few seconds to pprocess. I'm wondering how Chaos reacted to his work being undone like that.

Okay so, here's my tentative idea for this turn:

For martial, we Fly Over The Shadows With The Blackjack. Yeah it costs us a favor, but I can hardly think of a more urgent need than this. Speaking of favors, since we apparently are owned one by the hunter clans, i think we should use it and call them for help in fighting the heartless. Since the little pieces of darkness never come in small numbers, all the help in dealing with them could make a big difference.

For diplomacy, i'm thinking on Getting Closer To The Returners since it would be good to get into contact with them as soon as possible.

For Stewardship, I think it's time to Open a Store. The passive income would be amazing to have and it also would serve as a base for us.

Intrigue, I definitely think we should Look For The Thief, the more time passes, the harder it will be to catch him, since the trail will be getting colder. And i doubt that if he's successful is his scape, there won't be consequences later.

For Intrigue, I know it's a long shot, but I'm learning towards Research "The Shadows", they're a eminent treat and one that Aerith doesn't know nothing about. I think anything edge we can have over them would be a great help, specially since Cid and a crystal are at risk here.

wait, is a turn one month or two? i assumed it was two months so this would cost the same lol

unsure about going to cid (think the favor may be wasted) because i'm not sure how we'd be able to help (and aerith probs doesn't know either), but taking the time to research shadows beforehand could make it viable? assuming we find info on weaknesses, at least

Okay. So... what I'm hearing is that "race for the crystals" is very much in effect, and we should be reacting accordingly.

...and....

Well, that's really very helpful in figuring out what to do about it.

I note that Traverse town has Cid, has a crystal, and is currently under siege by shadowthings. Seems pertinent.

I feel like the Thief is... of lesser importance. If we can help, great, but if the thief gets away, that's not too terrible.

I hate the Mako reactor in Timber, but of the three remaining, it's the least important.
Both the Gestallen Empire and Traverse Town are threatened and have a crystal in them. Lostime's situation is more immediately dire.
I'm thinking it may be time to spend a Setzer favor.

Pretty sure each turn is an in-universe month, so we're getting a discounted rate on Shadow by buying his services in bulk. And considering we usually have at least something in Intrigue we'd like to boost, I'd say that's a good call to keep more Funds on hand for other things while still having our friendly neighbourhood ninja merc on speed-dial.

I'm definitely on board with hiring Shadow as long as possible. The guy is super useful, and more importantly prevents him from being hired by enemies too. It's a resource sink but not a bad one.

Fly to Cid, Returners or Shinra are both solid (thief is hard to justify still even if I'm curious), Bazaar for the reputation boost seems good, pretty much every Intrigue option is good, Learning… is the rough one. Very high DC usually. Shadows are most relevant if we try to save Cid.

Personals…study with Garnet, Folklore, Losttime maybe (Freya I'm unsure on), Entreat is my thoughts. Aerith really needs to become a better mage and Garnet is the only route for that currently. The others I'm more iffy on. The social stuff is critical to build bonds, but they also have so many time sensitive tasks going on that they don't seem ready for.

I feel like the Thief is... of lesser importance. If we can help, great, but if the thief gets away, that's not too terrible.
presumably the thief's stolen something of importance to Dalmasca (some sort of magical artifact or politically significant object, maybe?) as a whole and not getting it back would introduce some degree of instability to the region? in which case investment recovering it would be warranted, though hard to say for sure.

they seem willing to do intrigue actions of their own to deal with it so it might happen without our input, but i think i'm on the ball when i predicted ashe would owe us a favor we'd be able to cash to pursuade them to do something specific in dalmasca? or otherwise make it worth our time

all that said, the other stuff does seem more pressing. the reactor in timber for instance even if it doesn't seem urgent compared to the others would harm the planet over time, which is probably bad considering we need it for a lot of stuff?
maybe we can get away with it because all of the other priorities are more or less in another action? or at least, the options in other actions (diplomacy, for instance) seem more worthwhile courses of action than the intrigue angle to solving our problems

For personals, i think Aerith should go to lostime because we don't know how long Barret will stay there before moving on to the next summon. Also, we aren't just meeting a old friend, we are meeting two of the most important figures in the church of Yevon.

Alfyn I'm thinking of putting him on Dalmascan Folklore, since i feel that we could learn something important there.

Freya I'm fine with either girl talk or catch up with Zidane. Building socials is always important.

Agnea I'm thinking of meeting the other heroes for the same reasons as Freya.

I feel like the Thief is... of lesser importance. If we can help, great, but if the thief gets away, that's not too terrible.
While i agree that we have some more important things, I wouldn't say the thief getting away won't be a problem. The crystal he stole is describe as of great importance, so i doubt it's just something of sentimental value to her. It could either be something dangerous in the wrong hands or something vital for Dalmasca.
Also, it's the only Intrigue action which seems time sensitive.

wait, is a turn one month or two? i assumed it was two months so this would cost the same lol
Quest mechanics describes a turn as bein a full month, but i get the confusion. Most CKII quests usually work as 2 months per turn.
