Calling it now. Flan's charisma aura is steadily giving her device sentience.

More likely her youki, the demonic energy Flandre, like all demons, is producing. There was never pure magic channeled from the vampire. And what will happen to an artifact that was saturated with youki, either due to time or a powerful Youkai?
Right, Tsukumogami ...

Uh... I remember In one of the chapters Remilia "Upgraded" or infused Loki with something. I don't remember which one, so I'm going to start scavenging for it.

EDIT: Either that, or she might have temporarily fixed Loki from our passive ability, now that I think about it.

With Remilia's power over fate I suspect thats probably the least worrying part. Worst case she becomes something no longer human...welcome to Gensokyo!
But Remilia as written is likely to let Ilya win the war on her own merits with a Heracles/Arthuria team up. Or lose on her own merits. The only reason she would even tolerate this is because Ilya is Flan's friend. This level of offense would normally warrant a Lesson.
Iri's a homunculus, she's already not human :V

And, yeah, Remi's ... not really on board with getting actually involved, much fun as I'd have with the writing and thinking about the implications/aftershocks. Like, thinking about reasons why she would help, I can come up with 'fuck with Kiritsugu and Saber,' and 'see how good I really am.' But considering the expenditures she'd be making, I'm not sure she'd really consider them worth the cost.

And really, with two High Bandwidth Homunculus powering Arthuria and Heracles she has good chances of winning on her own merits.

Even against Gilgamesh.

You sigh and shrug; the Bureau getting nervous isn't something you have any control over, but 'helping' them by creating as few points of disruption as you can isn't exactly a bad decision. … Probably, anyway. You take off the wristband and, after a moment, hold it out for Juliet. Better her than someone you don't know, anyway. Besides, with Fate still in the hospital you probably won't be sent anywhere before Juliet finishes the important parts. "Should I come back in a few days, or will you just send a message to let me know when it's ready?" Juliet takes Loki from you and looks at it for a moment before setting it on the counter beside her.

"Hmm … well, I'll call when it's ready, but if you want to see how things are going I don't mind you showing up whenever." She smiles and shrugs. "That's just the way things go, I'm afraid." You nod and lean back in your chair, looking around the sparsely-decorated room.

"I understand. Actually, I was wondering if you learned anything from that Spell Card I showed you." She shivers excitedly and grins.

"Oh, it's such a mystery! I love it!" She bounces to her feet, ignoring her cane, and briskly paces the office for a moment. "We can recreate it exactly, but if we change certain lines, it either doesn't do anything or it goes wrong, and because of the ways it goes wrong, we haven't been able to pin down what, exactly, different parts of the design mean! It's wonderful!" You raise an eyebrow at her enthusiasm.

"Wonderful?" She spins and nods dizzyingly quickly.

"Oh, yes! It's like - like a Rare Skill. We can puzzle out some of the rules, and we can make it work, but actually understanding it? Making derivative works, let alone something completely different? We're still far from that point. And don't you dare explain things to anyone!" She jabs a finger at you, suddenly serious. "I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the pieces fit together, and I don't want you to spoil the game before I officially give up!" You giggle at the intensity and nod.

"I won't, Juliet. You seem to be having fun with it, at least." She shakes her head, relaxing.

"Oh, I don't know about that. I just - I love the mystery of it. We don't have those, anymore, not outside those stupid 'Lost Logia' that hardly anyone gets to study properly. Either it's something we're familiar with, even if we can't precisely recreate it - the Cradle, for example, because almost all of it that we've studied so far we could, in theory, build or replace, if at lower efficacy - or it's something that's 'too dangerous' to be studied and so those idiots up top want them locked away and studied by only certain people." You cock your head for a moment before realizing what her bitter tone probably means. Why wouldn't they let her work with these 'Lost Logia' things, though?

"Personal experience?" You don't want to upset her, so you keep the question vague, but she just sighs and waves a hand before dropping back into her chair.

"It's nothing. Just the ravings of a fool." You glare at her and she chuckles, shaking her head. "Anyway, to answer your question - we haven't really 'learned' anything, and the Spell Card itself is … unfortunately, not worth much too us. For some reason, some people just don't seem to be able to use it at all, and a lot of people just can't power it sufficiently to control it, so they end up exhausted and can't really do anything for a while afterward. One of the hopes was that it could be used as a sort of ace card, something that would be more effective than their normal skills, but it's just too energy-intensive. Along with the difficulties that cancelling it early presents, it's not really an option for the people who would get the most use out of it, and the more powerful members who could use it have better options most of the time." She sighs. "And it doesn't even play nice with the cartridge system, although we have gotten some better results by using that." You grin mischievously and when she looks up after a moment she raises an eyebrow and waits for you to say something.

"Hehe. Hmm … what if I showed you something - a little different?" Her eyes flash and she leans forward.

"Different? Different enough that it won't spoil the fun?" You nod and take out one of your bomb-type Spell Cards. Juliet eagerly grabs it once you hold it out for her and stares intently at it.

"It's a different kind of Spell Card - a single-use 'bomb' rather than an extended action." She slowly looks up at you before twitching away and holding the Spell Card against a machine. Making a copy of it, probably.

"Show - can you show me it? Right now, if you aren't busy?" You grin and nod.

"Sure. We'll need a bit of space, though, and preferably some kind of protected area." She rubs three of her fingers together for a moment before nodding once and starting to walk away.

"This way, please." She walks quickly back through the building, calling one of her colleagues to join you before leading you into the parking lot. Ginga frowns and looks up; you wave but stay with Juliet. "Alright, so what's the best way to show us?" You glance at the man she called - Gregory? - and shrug.

"It's a directed attack, so a barrier between me and something important would be good. There's some splash, but it's mostly forward. And, uh, it's fire, and actually dangerous, so don't get hit by it." The man chuckles.

"Better than dinner, at least." Juliet scowls and smacks his shoulder, but he just laughs harder. "Hmm … how about I get in front of the building, and you make the attack toward it?" You shrug.

"Should work. It's not unlimited range, so I could get back far enough that you shouldn't be in danger." He shakes his head.

"No, no - at least, not entirely. Danger's good for the soul, you know, and it works your heart pretty well, too." Juliet scowls at him and you laugh at his lopsided grin.

"Fine, fine. Alright, get where you want to stand." You look around and find a row of parking spaces that doesn't have any cars in it. Lucky. Gregory moves so he's between you and the building, and a large brown barrier appears in front of him, shielding him and the building. You take out Laevateinn and see Ginga start to move to interfere, but Juliet stops her. Satisfied that there won't be any interruptions, you activate the Spell Card and send out the flaming blade. It doesn't quite reach the spell-screen, but the flung danmaku do, and the blade carves into the parking lot. The man shivers as he drops the barrier, but he doesn't look afraid; purely a physical reaction? You turn as Ginga storms up to you, followed by Juliet.

"What do you think you're doing?!" You take a short breath, but Juliet beats you to a response.

"A demonstration of a new technique, Sergeant. I asked her to show it to me, and she explained that it was potentially dangerous. Nothing at all to worry about." Ginga stares at Juliet, then at you, then at Gregory as he walks past the scarred roadway.

"Nothing to worry about? What about that? What about the fact that the building was in danger?" She seems to be working herself up, but Juliet clears her throat and glares fiercely at her.

"Sergeant. Everything is under control. You don't need to worry about anything." Ginga stares at her for a moment, obviously wanting to say something, but simply turns back to you.

"Then you're finished here?" Stiff, frustrated voice, not quite a glare - yep, she's definitely upset. Well, you probably are done ….

What do you do?

[ ] Go with Ginga.
- [ ] Quickly summarize the bomb-type Spell Card for Juliet before leaving.
- [ ] Explore Long Arch and see if anyone else is staying there.
- [ ] Don't explore Long Arch immediately; wait until nightfall and explore it with Satsuki.

[ ] Stay with Juliet a while longer.

[ ] Other?

[X] Stay with Juliet a while longer.

Somehow I think Ginga hadn't wholly gotten used to the idea of someone like Flan NOT being responsible :p

There's another fairly obvious reason Ginga is less than pleased with the event that occurred. Any guesses?

Also, in the spirit of things that could have been, there was something I was thinking of doing in the 4HGW omakes. If things had gone a bit differently, Kayneth would have been more insulted and irritated by Remilia's actions and sent Lancer at her and Ilya before Berserker arrived. This would have ended up with Remilia having one of the spears through her head, at which point she would have pulled it out of her eye and said to Ilya, "When I said 'Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye, I did not know this was going to happen!" I'm not sure if it would have ended better than what actually happened, though :/

Update should be up in half an hour.

Official Mistake
[X] Stay with Juliet a while longer.

"Not just yet, I think. A bit more to do." You smile at Ginga, and for a moment it almost seems like she wants to contest your decision … but then she deflates and shakes her head.

"Fine. I'll be waiting out here for you." You giggle and float up to pat her head, earning a stifled glare before she turns away. Well, if she's not going to explain herself … besides, you do have something you need to think about with Juliet. You grab the Meister's arm and start tugging, pulling her inside.

"Come on! Let's go back inside."

"Alright, alright! Come on, Grigori, no ogling the uniform." You twitch your head back, more at the implication of what he's doing than at the clarification of his name, but all you see is him shaking his head as he follows you toward the building.

"I do not 'ogle,' Juliet. I gawk. Completely different." He winks at you. "You see, with ogling, the intent is obviously one of lasciviousness, but with gawking, you just look lost and confused. And people fall for it!" Juliet shakes her head as he laughs at himself and closes the door to the building before he reaches it.

"So, Flandre, what did you want to talk about? There isn't really anything official we need to discuss." You grin and let her go so you can walk backwards. Grigori rubs his forehead as he enters the building, then shakes his head and heads for a different area.

"Mm, just a bit about the Spell Card, and then … mm, well, kind of about you." You're not sure if she'd really like Gensokyo, after all, and inviting someone you don't know very well - even if she is as amazing as Juliet is - is probably something you should avoid. True, you do have a couple months, but you might as well get started now. She shakes her head.

"No, no - if it's about the Spell Card, I don't want you to tell me anything about it." Her voice hardens a little and you pout a little.

"I just want you to know that I really don't know if it's something other people can use." She frowns and looks down at the floor as you walk down the hallway. It's based off one of your other Spell Cards, after all, and both of them make use of the fact that you can use Laevateinn to create a flaming blade; without Laevateinn, you aren't sure the Spell Card will function at all, let alone properly.

"… It has something to do with you taking out that black staff, right? And it's not just 'needs an implement,' probably. You're smart, you wouldn't be making sure I know about it if having a magic wand was that important. Alright, thanks for the warning." She smiles and catches up to you to tousle your hair before opening the door to her office. "Alright, now that that's out of the way, what is it 'about me' that you want to know?" She drops lightly into her chair and looks at you inquisitively. You sit in the other chair and wait a moment before answering.

"Well … okay, what if there's something 'mysterious,' but there's no 'mystery' and the answer is 'just because'? If there's something that seems like it should have some kind of interesting reasoning or story, but the reality is just 'that's the way it is'. How would you feel about something like that?" She peers at you intently for a moment before leaning back in her chair and steepling her fingers.

"It depends on how long it takes me to find out, and how people I interact with refer to it. Like, if people tell me that there's no mystery, it'll bother me a lot more than if they'd strung me along while pretending there was something interesting to find out. And as far as the 'mystery' not being there - I guess it depends on how long it takes me to figure that out. If it takes me a good long time to realize that I'm running in circles, chasing something that doesn't exist … well, it'll be a shame, of course, but I'd probably laugh at myself. Go through a lot of effort to figure something out, and the 'obvious' answer of there being nothing to figure out - it's a great joke, you know? The end result doesn't really matter, it's the finding out that I like. What the end result is, how those results are used - those don't really interest me." She frowns and tilts her head. She'd probably get along with Remilia, at least. Or, Remilia would find her someone easy to get along with. "… I mean, of course I don't want the wrong sort of people to find out some things and to make use of some of the things I might discover, and I'm not inherently for or against the hiding of information." She works her mouth for a moment until you giggle.

"I don't care about that, Juliet." She blinks and shakes her head, returning your smile.

"Right, sorry. I just … hm, don't want you to get the wrong impression of me. I'm not a mage, after all, not a real one." A puzzled expression crosses her face, but she shakes it away and shrugs, smiling. Before she can explain, however, someone knocks at the door. You both turn, frowning at the interruption, and a grinning younger man opens the door and pokes his head in.

"Oh, Julie~et! Boss wants to see you. She seemed a bit upset, too, so you might want to hurry." He eyes you curiously as Juliet sighs and gets up.

"Just wait a bit, Flandre. I'll be back soon." He shakes his head.

"Actually, you might want send her out - it, ah, might take you a while. Like I said - a bit upset." You scowl at him when he peers at you and he shrugs. Juliet sighs.

"Well, I guess that's it for today, at least. I'll let you know when I've made sure your Device is fine, okay?" You nod and hop forward to give Juliet a hug. She seems a bit surprised, and awkwardly pats your head; you skip back and stick your tongue out at her, grinning.

"Okay! I'll see you later, then. Take care." She smiles and waves as you turn away and leave the office. The young man watches you curiously until you shoot a momentary glare at him. He recoils and shakes himself before turning back to Juliet as you walk past him. When you get outside, you see Ginga leaning against her car. She looks up when you approach, giving you a confused and slightly irritated look.

"I thought you were going to stay with the Meister?" You shrug.

"Her boss wanted to talk to her, I guess. So they said I should go." She winces and you narrow your eyes. "Is there something I should know about?" She looks distinctly uncomfortable as she gets into the car.

"Well …." A soft tone sounds and she does something to make a screen appear in front of her. "Fate? What is …? Hello, Fate. Is something wrong?" Fate nods.

"Sergeant Nakajima. Did anything happen I should be made aware of?" You raise your eyebrows at the sudden formality, and Ginga glances back at you.

"Er … something like that, Ma'am. I thought you were off-duty, and on medical beside?" Fate makes a face and the screen changes to show her mother.

"If it makes you feel better, I'd like to know as well." Ginga gulps and looks back at you. "Ah, you're there, too, Flandre?" You nod.

"Yes. What happened?" Fate's mother frowns as Ginga begins driving away from Juliet's building.

"A short while ago, a large spike in magical energy was reported at your location. As an unauthorized use of excessive energy, it was logged and reported to your superior, and if it hadn't been for prompt action on her part, by now you would have seen an active response team from the Bureau. Now, so that we may close the case quickly, would you mind telling us what did happen?" You glance at Ginga, and she does look a little unhappy … and Juliet's sudden requirement to speak to her superior makes a bit more sense. You sigh quietly.

"I asked Juliet if she wanted to see a different sort of 'Spell Card' - that's a type of magic that I showed her when I was here before and she made Loki for me - and she said that she did. So we went outside and I showed it to her. She didn't say anything to me about authorization or anything, and I didn't think about it. There was a bit of damage to the road outside the building." Fate's mother winces.

"I see. Well, to make things clearer, while you're in the city, unless it's absolutely necessary - or you have explicit permission from your supervisor - do not use magic. At all, if possible. Is that understood?" You frown.

"Is that 'any magic whatsoever' or is it just dangerous magic. I mean, obviously using danmaku or Laevateinn's fire isn't allowed, but would I be allowed to fly? Or just float up a meter or so to reach something more easily?" Fate clears her throat and the screen switches back to her.

"We can do some tests to see what is detectable and what isn't, but for now, don't use any magic inside the city limits. You can at Long Arch, of course, but even there try to keep it minimal." You nod.

"Yes, Ma'am." Fate smiles and bows her head.

"Thank you, Flandre, Ginga."

"Yep!"

"Please get back to resting, Fate." Fate chuckles at Ginga's request.

"Don't worry, I'm almost done here. Thank you for your assistance, Sergeant." The screen switches back to Fate's mother and Ginga nods.

"Yes, Admiral. I apologize for the interruption." The green-haired woman shakes her head and waves before the connection ends. Ginga sighs. "I'm sorry if I was a bit hard on you earlier, Flandre." You shake your head.

"I think you had a good reason. How long until we get to Long Arch?"

"From here? Hmm … forty-five minutes. Maybe more." You scowl.

"Would it be alright if I took a nap until we get there?" She chuckles softly.

"Go right ahead." You smile at the front seat and twist around to lean against Satsuki's blanket-shrouded form.

"Thank you." You take a breath, make sure you're comfortable - at least, as comfortable as you can be - and close your eyes, falling asleep.

"Flandre? We're here, Flandre." Ginga's voice tugs you out of sleep and you sit up, sliding back over to your spot after making sure you haven't moved Satsuki's blanket. You look around - and then you lean forward when you realize where you are.

"Hey! This is where the simulator is!" Ginga turns her head to frown at you.

"Sit down, please. And, yes, there's a combat simulator nearby." You give her an excited look.

"Can we use it?" She frowns and you shake your head. "Not for me - I mean, I'd like to use it a few times, just for fun - but Satsuki needs some training, and it'd be perfect for her!" Ginga frowns at you until you sit back in the seat. She drives around the front of the building to a parking lot.

"We'll have to wait until Fate gets here before we know whether you're allowed to use it for that. So for the next few days, I'm afraid you won't be able to." You pout. Well, you'll just have to make sure Fate knows it's important! You look around as Ginga parks the car, and the lone individual making her way to the car draws your attention. Short, long white hair, eyepatch … yes, you remember her. Cinque. Granted, the clean white outfit is fairly distinctive, and the torc around her neck doesn't exactly look like a fashion statement. You frown at her and then at Ginga. The sergeant has the grace to look embarrassed and uncomfortable. So she's a prisoner. And you … an extra warden? Or an implied threat? Cinque bows when you get out of the car.

"Welcome back, Sergeant. Hello - Flandre Scarlet?" You nod at her correct pronunciation.

"Hello, Cinque. Where is everyone else?" You glance at Ginga. How many more of them are there? How many are here? And why didn't anyone mention this to you?

"Calling Dieci." Cinque turns back to you. "Nove and Wendi are here, too, if you want to meet them." You cock your head ever so slightly. Inviting you to intrude on a call with another of their team? On the other hand … it is daytime.

You just took a nap, Flan! Don't be so lazy!

Anyway, hopefully there aren't any hard feelings after what Flan did last time she was here. In her defense, it was kind of war.
