[X] Vampires are supposed to sleep during the day!

You nod to yourself as you withdraw from her room and quietly close the door. You might not be strictly nocturnal, but you're still a creature of the night, and being active during the day isn't something you should really get in much of a habit of doing. Even if you'll probably have to be more diurnal when you go to Mid-Childa. Although the thought brings a scowl to your face, you smile when you return to your bedroom. There is your bed, high and bouncy and proper, and sitting on top is your coffin! Oh, how you've missed it. It's spacious enough to fit two of you - or you and your sister - snugly, so when it's just you it's positively opulent. And there are all sorts of benefits to it … you'll have to remember to bring it along when you go to Mid-Childa. After changing into something more suited for sleeping, you climb inside, close the lid, take a deep breath, and drift off to sleep. It's good to be home.

You wake up and push the lid up and to the side, sitting up to look around your room. You shake your head and float up, changing into a new set of clothes - the set Remilia enchanted may be clean, but they're all just a little different. Then you go about putting your conquests in place. The Soul Gems go on a shelf, the Grief Seeds arrayed below them like an advancing horde. The spare dresses you place in a wardrobe, and the two strange masks hang from hooks on the sides. The soldier's helmet and the 'scholar's' hat you set on a dresser. The books you took from the library go on a shelf near the door - you'll have to give them to Patchouli, either for her to keep or to see about getting them back to the library. The pulsing red plant you keep safe so you can give it to Meiling, and Oriko's letter you'll want to give to Remilia when you have a moment. The parasols you keep, and after a moment's consideration you retain Lutecia's ring as well. It wouldn't do to forget it, after all. When you walk out of your room, however, you nearly bump into Satsuki. She's wearing a new maid uniform, with short sleeves and skirt, and she looks a little uncomfortable. "Good evening, Satsuki."

"Um, good evening, Flandre-sama." She bows politely, but when you keep staring at her she fidgets uncomfortably. "Is something wrong?" You shrug, keeping a light smile on your face.

"You seem uncomfortable about something. Is the uniform the wrong size?" She squeezes her hands together and looks down.

"N-no. That … that's kind of it. Sakuya-san just gave these to me, but they fit … perfectly, I think." She twists one way, then the other, then stretches her arms over her head. "Are they magical?" You shrug.

"Probably not. Sakuya's not a magician, after all." She freezes and stares at you. "Like I said, she's very good at her job. I wouldn't think too much about it." Her face turns red and you giggle. At some point you are going to have to explain about her, but for now it's rather fun to see Satsuki like this. Still, you can't spend all night teasing her. "Anyway, can you use that map to find out where Deis is?" She nods, probably glad to have something to occupy herself with.

"Umm, let's see …." She touches the piece of paper, just like before, and while you can see lines forming to show part of the library, she shakes her head.

"No? What about Ershin?" She repeats the steps to another failure and hunches over unhappily.

"I'm sorry, Flandre-sama." You shake your head and pat her shoulder.

"She might be out of range - or hiding, or something like that. Can you find Ilya?" She tries again, with success this time, and the two of you head back to the lab area. Maybe you should have had it try to look for Patchouli or Sakuya, just to make sure it was working properly, but it shouldn't be a problem. Ilya is already awake when you reach the lab area, leaning back against Sella as they read the storybook together. Leysritt is awake, too, and she seems to be moving much more naturally. She stumbles with an overhand swing, however, and the floor crunches as the halberd slams into it. Ilya and Sella wince. "Ilya! Good evening!" Her head spins at your call, then she looks back at Leysritt, then back at you. You float over to her and pat her head. "Don't worry, it's been through worse."

"In any case, Leysritt, you should stop. It wouldn't do to cause further damage." Leysritt nods at Sella. "Good evening, Lady Flandre." You nod politely.

"Are you going to read to me again? We got through this once already, but someone let slip they borrowed another book from you." Sella deflates as Ilya grins triumphantly. You sigh and cross your arms.

"Actually, I was going to ask if you wanted anything to eat." Ilya frowns and puts her hand on her stomach.

"It's weird. I'm not hungry, but … we've been here for a while, haven't we?" You nod.

"Patchouli probably did something, but if you want to eat something, we can go up to the dining room." Ilya nods but Sella clears her throat.

"Miss Knowledge did say she was not to move around too much." Your mouth twists unhappily.

"Not too much, and she should still eat. I suppose I could carry the bed -"

"Um, Flandre-sama? Why not use the wheelchairs?" You blink at Satsuki's interruption, and when you turn to look at her she points at a couple of chairs sitting beside one of the tables. Instead of normal legs, they have, as Satsuki pointed out, large wheels. A clever idea, indeed. You clap your hands and fly over to Satsuki, swinging her around as you hug her, then go to the wheelchairs. One is obviously sized for a child, so you push it over to Ilya as Satsuki recovers from your thanks. As Sella helps Ilya into the chair, Leysritt stands up and bows to you.

"I can walk. Thank you." Sella straightens and turns to her co-worker. You look at Leysritt, then at Sella, then carefully and obviously busy yourself making sure Ilya is comfortable. You don't hear anything pass between them, but after a moment Leysritt nods her head again and Sella goes to get the other wheelchair. Ilya giggles quietly but simply shakes her head when you glance at her. When everyone is ready you lead the way toward the stairs.

"Remind me to introduce you to Meiling, Leysritt. And you, too, Sella."

"Meiling?" You nod.

"She's our gardener, but she's also the gate guard. She knows a lot of martial arts, and can probably help your physical recovery if you want." Sella bows her head and you walk in silence for a little bit. "… Anyway, Ilya, um, you remember I told you about Mid-Childa, right? Um, I … kind of have to go back there in a few days. For a couple months." She turns her head to look at you, but you can't really bring yourself to meet her eyes.

"I sort of remember. It's the place where they practice magic openly, right?" You nod. "… Do you think they could do something about me?" You start to reply affirmatively, remembering Major Marino, then hesitate.

"I'm sure they can, but my sister said she already has some thoughts on how to help you, so maybe we can ask her about them?" She nods slowly.

"I guess. But I think I'd feel weird being here as your guest when you aren't going to be here." You nod in understanding; and if she did come with you to Mid-Childa you could introduce her to Lutecia! "Tell me about Mid-Childa." Sella inhales sharply, probably irritated by Ilya's commanding tone, but you simply pat her head and start talking, as much for Satsuki to hear as for her. Besides, it's a good way to pass the time as you walk through the endless stacks of bookshelves. You actually finish before you reach the stairs, anyway.

"Lady Flandre, just how large is the library?" You smile sheepishly at her.

"I guess it depends on who you ask. Sakuya could probably give you exact dimensions, Patchouli I think measures it in terms of books." And then you turn and the staircase is visible, a few minutes' walk away. "I just think it's really big. But we're almost out." It doesn't help that occasionally the measurements fluctuate. You keep walking, wondering if you're going to have to carry both Ilya and Leysritt's chairs up, but between one step and the next you and Ilya appear on the level above, with the stairs behind you. A second later the distraught Sella and Leysritt appear beside you. You blink and look to your right, but Satsuki doesn't appear. Maybe whatever did it is keyed to the wheelchairs? You sigh. "I'll be right back," you say before turning back into the library. Sure enough, Satsuki is still at the bottom of the stairs, looking around worriedly. "Satsuki!" She looks up and you wave. She dashes forward, hurrying to reach you, and leaps up the grand staircase. You smile at her as she reaches you. "I'm sorry. I didn't know that was going to happen."

"It's alright, Flandre-sama." She follows you out into the hallway and you continue toward the dining room. Sella asks you questions about the mansion and the things inside - furniture, carpets, things like that - but you can't actually answer most of what she wants to know. It's slightly embarrassing, really, and you wonder if Remilia ever thought about teaching you about that. Probably not; you probably gave her enough headaches during your etiquette lessons to make her think it wouldn't be worth the effort. You finally reach the dining room, and Satsuki rushes forward to open the doors for you, revealing Sakuya setting up a short table.

"Ah, Young Mistress. Good evening." She bows politely before returning to work. Scowling slightly at the title, you look around the room and the gallery above. You wave to Remilia when you see her, and the others follow your gaze to the upper floor. Remilia sighs, barely visible to you at this range, and does the bat thing again. Ilya inhales in surprise, but it's only a second before Remilia is standing in front of you, pouting.

"Really, Flandre. I was all set to have a grand entrance, had the music ready and everything. And then you have to go and wave. What do you have to say for yourself?" You giggle at her mock-severe tone.

"… Oops?" She shakes her head as Sakuya sighs, then looks down at Ilya.

"Good evening, Illyasviel von Einzbern. I am Remilia Scarlet." Ilya starts to try a bow but Remilia coughs and shakes her head. "No, no - I'm not going to stand on formalities. I could, but you are Flandre's friend. As I said when you first arrived: Be at ease, and rest without worry." Ilya nods and your sister smiles. "Good. Dinner will be ready in a few moments." She steps back and walks to her seat as you help Ilya. You squeeze her shoulder reassuringly and smile at her; she smiles back and finally relaxes as you sit next to her.

Meh, I really don't think Ilya legs and arm are really that important, besides i'm curious on what happening.

I know many will want llya ready for operations sooner than later, but we don't want to focus too much on her. We need catch up on the local news. It might interest Ilya on the locals as well, and it will brief Ilya on the current members of the mansion and Gensokyo at large; If someone else from the outside (the mansion, (da ze!) comes, she will know who they are and won't cause huge commotion. Not only that, but I think we should mention her well-being privately. We don't want her or her servants rushing us for treatments.

I care about Illya and don't mind making the current primary focus be about recovering her limbs.

"You know that after this you're going to have a much harder time convincing anyone that you're innocent, right?" Flandre sighed and drove Laevateinn into the thick armor below her. It was almost damage enough that she could use her hands to tear through it.

"Really? I think it'll be pretty easy." She chuckled at the exasperated sigh in the back of her mind.

"You broke out of your room and murdered one of their soldiers, for starters." She rolled her eyes at Headless's complaint.

"The lights went out unexpectedly and the door was stuck, and I'm quite afraid of the dark, you know. As for their soldier, he shot me first. Perfectly justified self-defense." She put Laevateinn away and began widening the gash in the armor with her hands.

"And then you went up into the vents and scrambled around in there instead of staying the hallways." Flandre shook her head again.

"Doors were locked. Besides, it was dark and I wasn't thinking very clearly. Perfectly reasonable course of action - just watch a cat when it's terrified." She smiled as her friend snorted. She was nearly through the armor now, and floated upside down to hammer at the other side with her fists.

"And there's the fact that you've unerringly chosen the path that goes down, instead of up." With another shriek of metal Flandre broke through the steel and, after widening the hole, tumbled through.

"Well, it's not like I can fly, now, can I? My wings don't provide any lift, after all." She grinned smugly as she dropped down the shaft. Danmaku bullets fell with her, providing enough light for her to, eventually, notice the floor in time to keep from landing in a most uncomfortable fashion.

"And you're going to explain how you managed to tear through steel - in the place you did - and then survived a should-have-been-fatal fall … how?" Flan laughed as she flew around the deep underground.

"I'll tell them an angel saved me!" She laughed at the disgust directed at her but soon fell into silence as a massive shape caught her eye. Joy left her entirely as she drew ever closer to the mutilated, crucified giant. "… Well. I guess that's one of their 'Angels.'"

"They thought you were one … do you think they'd have tried to do this to you if you'd gone through with the whole, "Fear not!" routine?" Flandre grinned before shaking her head.

"It would've been fun to watch them try - all they had were guns, after all, and I had Loki on. They just didn't know what I was. And remember, that girl said that all the Angels were giants. That's probably the only reason they let her tell me stuff - they can tell I'm not human, but I don't seem to be one of their Angels either. Maybe they're hoping I'll help them if one attacks." She frowned and drifted closer to the giant's strange, multi-eyed mask. "… You're not dead, are you?"

"Seems dead to me." Flandre shook her head at Headless's remark.

"No. Maybe not alive, but it's not dead, either. They wouldn't be keeping it pinned like this if it was dead." Headless wordlessly agreed. Flandre stared at the mask for a few more moments before descending and staring at the giant's neck. Laevateinn appeared in her hand and she considered the object and her proposed target - then put the black rod away and turned to head back to the long shaft.

"You aren't going to try drinking its blood?" Flandre shrugged as she began the ascent.

"Not yet, anyway. Maybe later. Do you think I should ask that girl about it?" Headless pondered the question.

"She's arrogant enough that she might not question you too much, and giving her 'secret' information should be a good way to feed her ego, but she might not know anything about it, not without bringing her down here." Flandre sighed.

"Yeah, that's what I figured. But the only other person who might be worth asking … heh, might as well ask him if I can have a Lance of Longinus to give to my sister. If they have Angels and a crucifixion, they've got to have something like that, right?" A slight sound warned her of something happening, and she winked out of sight as the lights in the shaft blinked on.

"I think it's time to get back somewhere you can be found," Headless said, and Flandre zoomed up the shaft toward the hole she'd made. What to do, what to do?

Ilya's Questions
[X] Let Ilya determine the topics of conversation.

Sella wheels Leysritt to the other side of the table, across from Ilya, and you turn to look at the wheels on Ilya's chair. There doesn't seem to be anything to manually keep them from moving - but when you give the chair a push it doesn't even budge. Remilia laughs from the head of the table, and so does Ilya when she sees you pouting. It should have been obvious, really. Then Remilia looks past you.

"Sit down, sit down; really, Flandre, just what sort of horrible, blood-drinking queen of the night do these people think I am?" You stick your tongue out at her as Satsuki embarrassedly takes her seat to your left. "Hmph. Sakuya, is everything ready?" Rather than respond verbally, Sakuya merely half-bows, and the place-sets are finalized: Remilia has a glass of wine, no doubt fortified with blood; Ilya has a small salad, rollmops, and some dumplings; you, of course, have those wonderful cookies and cakes that you love so very, very much; Satsuki has some, too, as well as a small cup of blood; and Sella and Leysritt's meals are similar to Ilya's, but with larger portion sizes and sausages. Remilia winks at you as she raises her glass to her lips.

"Thank you, Sakuya!" You wave at her before diving into your meal. Beside you, Ilya starts to eat, but frowns unhappily at Remilia's lack of food. You swallow the cookie you have in your mouth, about to tell her it's okay, but she shakes her head and returns to her food. You glance at your sister, but the cheerful smile hasn't left her face. After a few minutes of silent eating, however, Ilya looks up again. Remilia smiles at her.

"Um, I don't want to be rude, but …," she hesitates until your sister waves her on, "why aren't you eating?" You wince but Remilia shrugs and looks at her glass.

"I have a very small appetite. I do enjoy good food, of course, and I eat fairly frequently, but if I don't feel like eating I tend to go with only a drink. Would it make you feel better if I ate as well?" Ilya quickly shakes her head, cheeks coloring, and looks down at her plate for a long moment before starting to eat again. Sella looks at her concernedly before glancing at Sakuya. Remilia catches the look and chuckles, drawing her attention.

"I apologize, Lady Remilia; I simply wondered how your servant had managed to make all this so quickly and easily." Sakuya bows her head at the compliment.

"She is a perfect maid, isn't she? That's only one of the reasons I'm so attached to her, of course, but it is a compelling reason. Ah, that reminds me." She looks at you and you sit up straight, licking at your lips to try to clean them. "If you don't mind, Flandre, Sakuya will need to meet with you to determine just what you want her to teach your new maid. Try to avoid being too demanding." You nod energetically and turn to smile at Satsuki. "You don't mind, do you, Sakuya?"

"I'm sure I can find some time to spare between my other duties, My Lady." You have to control a laugh at the silly line and at Satsuki's expression. If there's one thing Sakuya has, it's time, after all. Dinner is finished fairly quickly, and as the plates are cleared they're replaced by small bowls of ice cream, and even Remilia has one this time.

"Thank you for the meal, Remilia," Ilya says when she finishes. Sella frowns at her, perhaps because of the degree of familiarity she used, but your sister nods in acknowledgement, still savoring her own dessert. Ilya stares at her empty bowl for a moment before sitting up and looking at Remilia. "Flan said she would have to go to Mid-Childa soon. I … I want to go with her." Remilia stares back, spoon still in her mouth, and you cringe. She shrugs as she pulls the spoon out.

"If you really want to, it can be arranged. They can probably fit you with prosthetics to replace your arm and leg, and I believe several of the more important individuals there will find your situation … somewhat familiar."

"Remi-" You're cut off by your sister's upraised hand.

"I would suggest talking with Flandre in more detail about your desire to accompany her, but we won't be offended regardless of your decision. I can't guarantee your happiness in either situation, but I understand wanting to be closer to someone you're more familiar with, and Mid-Childa may well fit your sensibilities better than Gensokyo does." She takes another bite of ice cream before continuing. "I appreciate your willingness to speak out. It's certainly better than people meekly accepting what I say and then running away without so much as a note." She sighs and you wonder what happened.

"I'm sorry. It's just …." She trails off for a moment until you touch her shoulder. It startles her, but she tries leaning against you despite the distance and you lean over to make sure she doesn't overbalance.

"Flandre is your friend, and while she may be my sister and she may trust me completely, I'm still a stranger to you, and living for several months under another's roof on the hospitality of someone else makes you uncomfortable." She sets her bowl down and leans back. "Well, there will be a party here in a couple days; whether you are undecided or not, it might be a good idea for you attend, just to see what some of the people here are like. Although Aya will be there, so if you show up you might be forced to have an interview." Ilya looks at you and seems reassured by your smile.

"Aya's a tengu newspaper reporter, and she and Remilia get along pretty well. She's smarter than she seems, though, and pretty strong."

"And as a further discouragement to your attendance, we will need to make sure you don't say anything that might hint at your coming from somewhere apart from our outside world." Her eyes suddenly narrow and she starts moving her fingers as she ponders probabilities. She shakes herself before she can get too caught up in it, however, and sits properly, smiling. "In any case, if you don't have anything else you need to discuss, I have some business that needs taking care of." You frown at her blatant dismissal, but you could keep asking her questions if it's really important … and just what business does she have that would take her away from guests?
