[X] Keep talking to Ilya.
-[X] About Angra Mainyu and the Einzberns' cheating habit.
- -[X] playfuly. You don't hold her family's cheating against Illya, after all.
-[X] About the Greater Grail.
Well, if Tohsaka starts screaming you'll know what the likely cause is. If Ilya's fine with it, no reason for you to get more involved if someone else is willing to take care of things. You head over to Satsuki and lean over her. "Good work, Satsuki. Thank you. Do you need help getting up? I think we're going to head back inside." She takes a moment to focus on you before slowly shaking her head.
"I'm fine, Flandre-sama. I'm just going to stay here for a bit, okay?"
"Alright. I'll come back to check on you, so don't worry if you fall asleep." She smiles and her eyes close. You float back to Ilya and tilt your head. She nods and Sella begins walking back to the castle.
"I do wish you'd told me about that ability of hers, Flan. It probably wouldn't do anything to a Servant, but it would ruin any magical defenses it comes into contact with." You nod somberly.
"I'm sorry, Ilya." Come to think of it, you should probably make sure Deis knows about Satsuki's ability as well, considering her situation. Ilya chuckles.
"You're not saying that it won't happen again," she says. You give her an impish grin and stick your tongue. Of course, she does know almost everything, so there shouldn't be any problems. Her expression suddenly turns thoughtful and she reaches out for you. "Sella, Rin will probably need some help. Flan can take me up to the study, so why don't you make sure she's alright before meeting us up there?" The servant frowns and stops.
"Lady Illyasviel …." Ilya shakes her head forcefully.
"She probably isn't thinking clearly, and I want it to go well. Besides, we'll want snacks anyway, so you'll have the perfect opportunity to get them ready." With a long-suffering sigh Sella passes Ilya to you. You grin at Ilya's annoyed expression as you follow Sella into the castle - it would be simpler and easier to fly to the study from outside, but there's little reason to aggravate Sella, especially with everything else that's going on. Of course, once you've gone your separate ways you bounce through the hallways, spinning and weaving as Ilya giggles delightedly. When you get up to the study you set Ilya in the overstuffed chair and drag a small table over before curling up next to her.
"Angra Mainyu?" Ilya scowls as you pull her against you and lean back.
"I think I told you about the Third Heaven's Feel before, a little. The Lesser Grail was damaged and so useless. I wasn't told much about the Servant, except that it was pitifully weak and was eliminated almost immediately." She sighs and shakes her head. "They couldn't have summoned the 'real' Angra Mainyu, though. Summoning a divine spirit as a Servant isn't impossible - Berserker is a demigod, after all - but if they could have summoned the real thing they wouldn't have needed to complete the ritual in the first place."
"Hmm … so it's … rather than summoning 'Angra Mainyu,' they summoned 'something believed to be Angra Mainyu?'" She nods.
"And since it wasn't the real Angra Mainyu, it didn't have any abilities. Well, no abilities worth using in a fight. There must be something special about it if it's managed to corrupt the Grail for so long. But I guess we'll have to wait for Sakura to wake up so we can question her about it." You point your wings forward, shifting the angle until you create a ladder of color going up the back of the chair.
"So is cheating something the Einzberns do with everything, or is it just for completing the Heaven's Feel?" Ilya shifts uncomfortably and you wrap your arms around her. "Now, now - they did, you have to agree. First they tried summoning a god, then when that didn't work they hired an outsider and gave him an extremely famous Servant. And when that didn't turn out they way they wanted it to, they turned his daughter - a wonderful, beautiful girl - into the most powerful Master and gave her the strongest Hero. Besides, even if I had a problem with them trying to cheat, it's not like you're at fault for what they did." You lean your head forward and nuzzle her cheek; after a moment she pushes back and puts her hand over yours.
"And then that girl became friends with an extremely powerful vampire, so I guess I'm keeping the tradition alive, hm?" She laughs before you can protest. "And you're right, but 'cheating' isn't exactly out of the ordinary for mages - I'm sure Tohsaka in the last War 'cheated' quite heavily, for example. Sort of like … mm, if you're not 'cheating,' you aren't trying hard enough. And the Einzberns have been trying to reclaim the Third Magic for a thousand years, so trying to force the issue in their favor is understandable. But … it doesn't seem to have turned out well for them, has it?" Her right arm waves, as if she was trying to hold her hand in front of her face … but that's the arm that she lost due to your failure to act and her own arrogance. You squeeze her tightly and bury your face against her neck. "Ah! Fl-Flan!" Your hands separate and you almost reflexively try to get away … but you can't do that without sending Ilya tumbling to the floor, so you force yourself to remain immobile. "… I'm sorry, Flan. You were just squeezing a little too tightly." You relax a little and drape your arms over her again.
"I'm sorry, too. I was just …." Ilya shakes her head, sending her hair brushing across your face, and leans back against you.
"I was thinking, too. I think something is trying to prevent the Third Magic from being recovered. Getting real Magic instead of plain magecraft is difficult, and spending a thousand years only to fail again and again is something expected, but the Einzberns had it. Centuries of effort pass and they're no closer to their goal, so they decide to work together with outsiders, only to continue to fail … and when they try to cheat, it goes horribly wrong." You hug her gently and she sighs. "Or maybe I'm trying to justify running away from all this - if something powerful enough to do all that really is responsible, it's not like I can do anything about it, so why not do what I want to do?" She shivers and you look around for a blanket. You're sure there was one in the room earlier … but it seems to be gone, now. Your clones slip out and dart stealthily back to your room to plunder the bedding. Ilya squeaks as the blanket descends over her and you giggle.
"I want to talk about something else, but let's wait for a bit, okay?" Ilya nods.
"Okay. Once Sella gets back we'll continue." She curls up against you and you set your clones to watch for the servant's approach. Ilya's breathing slows as she drowses contentedly. On a whim, you send one clone out to check on Satsuki; unsurprisingly, she's asleep, so you have it carry her back to her room. Sella finally appears with a rolling tray, and as you nudge Ilya awake you can't help but wonder how she managed to get it up the stairs. Maybe she's just that good?
"Lady Illyasviel, Lady Flandre." Ilya manages to look completely awake as Sella immobilizes the tray in front of the chair. She definitely notices the blanket, but you can't tell how she feels about it. You nibble at one of the small cakes - more neatly than Ilya does! - and enjoy the delicious tea.
"Thank you, Sella," you say, and she blinks, apparently taken aback by your gratitude. You grin at her and the consternation vanishes from her face.
"Yes, thank you, Sella." She bows in response to Ilya's thanks and stands off to the side. "… So, what was the other thing you wanted to talk about?" You set your tea down and flutter the wing on your free side.
"The Greater Grail. Do you still want to try repairing it, or is there something else you want to try?" She sighs.
"I thought that was it. But … if it has been corrupted as badly as I think, it's probably not worth the effort. We certainly wouldn't be able to benefit from it, so it would be purely for the Einzberns. If we don't do something, though, Angra Mainyu may get out, prompting the destruction of this area." Which wouldn't be a problem, except this is Emiya's home, and the place where her father lived and died. "Repairing the Grail at this point would probably require drawing Angra Mainyu out somehow, but that's probably too risky to try without knowing a lot more about what it wants and how it works. The best option …." She grimaces and looks down at her lap. "Physically destroy the Greater Grail. It might not dismantle the ritual, but it would keep everything under control until the Japanese get around to … whatever they plan on doing."
"That probably shouldn't be carried out by Servants, though, right?" Ilya grimaces and nods unhappily.
"Probably not. I don't think it'll do anything, but …."
"I don't want to risk it, either. Well, it shouldn't be too hard, anyway. Anything else we can try?" She frowns at her teacup.
"No. Nothing else." You blink and refrain from trying to stare Ilya into submission. You know that tone of voice - there is at least one other option, but Ilya won't consider it. It is not an option, and won't be done. You're a little curious, but considering everything, it's not worth pushing her on it. You lean against Ilya, placing your chin on her shoulder.
"Hmm. Leave it alone, which is a bad idea. Try to fix it, which is possibly very problematic, or blow it up …." Of course, only one of those is any fun ….
