If we go into the shadow, everyone else will assume the worst. Ilya and Deis in particular will panic and that could lead to them taking...unwise actions.

Archer has super senses, so let him let us know when we're good to go.

Assuming he doesn't fuck us over. I think we're good, if he's willing to work with Shirou, but you never know.

That said, the instances in which Archer screws would probably involve saving Rin amd Ilya. We're okay with half of those reasons.

Can he really be trusted? I mean during the fight he almost hit us if we didn't move out of the way.

I don't know if he genuinely miss his target or purposefully trying to hit us but make it seems like he miss his main target and the thing is, EMIYA have perfect aim, it is literally impossible for him to miss unless he's doing so.

He's hitting targets he can see that we can't. If he wanted to nuke us he would have just done it. He knows a close call won't finish us on its own and he saw what we did to Gilgamesh.

I'd peg it as his belief in our ability to deal with it better than our ability to deal with the Shadow sneaking up.

Ok, I will take your word for it.

Just to clarify:
As you watch, the air around him sparks red, and then a blue-white like streaks toward the shadow-thing. It misses - too high, too far to the side - but you're too busy riding the explosion to complain.
The Shadow is between Caladbolg II's detonation point and Flan. From Archer's perspective, Flan is to the right, so he shot left.

No … attempting an internal disruption of the shadow-thing should probably wait for a more controlled situation - or a more desperate one. You take out Laevateinn and consider distances. You don't want to be too close to the shadow-thing, in case it changes its mind again, but you also want to be able to sustain your attack for as long as possible. It's probably not worth going for a longer blade, especially since this probably won't be too effective. You turn toward the castle. "Hey! Give me a signal when it's time to go!" Instead of making a reply or waving or something, he simply looses another arrow at the shadow-thing. You scowl and drop down to bar its path as it stumbles, and one of your clones flies from the shadow-giants toward Archer. As it straightens, eighteen meters away, you channel power through Laevateinn, and a torrent of flame erupts from the tip, engulfing the shadow-thing.

"Yes, yes, I heard - signal if we need to run." You withdraw your attention from your clone upon hearing Archer's words and it hurtles back to the shadow-giants. You pull your gift away from the shadow-thing and sweep it across the ground. You're doing an awful lot of landscape damage, but it's in a good cause! Besides, it's easier to see if it's trying to pull a trick of some kind. You back up slightly, maintaining your distance from the shadow-thing, and resume your attack. Perhaps Laevateinn isn't doing significant damage - perhaps it isn't doing any damage - but if nothing else, the shadow-thing seems to move more slowly while covered in flames. Maybe it's blinded by the magical energy … or maybe it's another trick, and it's just moving more slowly to keep you off-guard. A shadowy tendril whips at you from around Laevateinn's flame-blade, and you yank yourself to the side and drag the column of fire with you to intercept it. You continue drifting around the shadow-thing, subjecting it to fire from all angles and never maintaining a given course for very long.

Halfway to the castle, you pull back and take stock of the situation. Archer is still shooting at the shadow-giants, as is your final clone. Deis and Satsuki are on the steps, but you don't see Tohsaka, nor Ilya or her servants. What's keeping them? Are they planning on fighting, or is there something they're trying to move? You turn back to the shadow-thing and keep burning it, slowing it as best you can. It's easier than trying to hold back Berserker … but at least against him you could see that you were doing something. Something wraps around your left leg, something flat and floppy and hot, and then something else slams into your back. From behind you … they try to drag you down to the ground, but you resist them. Snarling, you cut off the power to Laevateinn and slam the black weapon into your left knee, severing it and freeing you from the tentacle that had snared you. You spin and shear through the one that had attached to your back, but when you finish turning the shadow-thing itself slams into you. More than any physical impact, you feel the heat, and only after the instant of shock is over do other associations enter your mind - boiling water, water that scalds your flesh and consumes you.

Filth. Bile, vomit, the stains of humanity. Legs - your left leg, that isn't there, kicks your right leg. This putrid slime, this cast-off excrement of humanity, seeks to destroy you! A barrage of curses, hate and violence and punishment. They try to drag you down, to bury you with blood and slop. One word. Kill. This word comes not from you, not from within you, but from without, and you grin joyfully. To kill … yes! You agree - KILL - and the wretched morass of human morality recoils. The poison in your leg burns away, dies under the venom of your own scorn, and instead of harmless shadow, for a moment you're surrounded by brilliant scarlet light. You crash to the ground, almost fall on your one leg but spread jeweled wings and steady yourself. Your prey, hunched and fearful, is before you, and you grasp its muddy form, dropping the tool in your hand. You are hungry, and your prey is before you. Your jaws stretch wide - and something streaks past you before everything fades into light.

Pain draws you back into wakefulness. Shadows and flame lie before you, and something shakes you. Shakes you too roughly, and you glare at the figure beside you, only for meaningless sounds to come out. More sounds come from behind you, and you twist painfully around - red figures and white figures standing apart, and a structure behind them. Inside your head hurts, too, and it seems like some things are arguing ….

What do you do?

Being engulfed by a manifestation of human sin and then attempting to consume said manifestation is usually a sign of poor decision making skills and bad stuff happening, but since Flandre is a vampire nearing five hundred years it's probably kind of normal-ish.

Don't want to accidentally kill our buddies.

Well damn. Maybe we shoulda gone for the gold and dived in but...even in hindsight, may not have been worth it.

Plus side, Shadow probably ain't gonna try that again, don't need to worry about temptation.

Down side, Shadow probably ain't gonna try that again, and that could have been fucking awesome. I like giving Rin more nightmares.

Pfft, that just means we can go full Primate Murder on its ass if it ever turns up again.

@Entropy Judge could we get a glimpse of what would have happened if we did manage to eat it?
I have a feeling it'd be awesome.
