[X]- Wait for them to leave.
-[X]-Booo~rrring. You just got a maid so you wouldn't have to deal with the trash. Good help is never around when you need it.
--[X]-Fly closer as a bat and see if you can overhear anything interesting.
---[X]- Make spooky noises in the dark until they freak out and leave.
"Hm, I think we should check around a little more, before we leave. This is a pretty big place, after all," Momo says, running a hand through her long hair. "I don't have very much range, either."
"Yeah, much as I hate the mandatory sewer levels, we might as well get it over with - if we do a good job now, we won't have to come back later!" Momo stares at her tall friend, and you're pretty sure the girl you're having a hard time finding is looking at her, too. "What?"
"Haa ... Satsuki, this is a subway, not a sewer level. Just because it's been abandoned for six years doesn't mean it's a sewer." You wonder why people would abandon such a wonderful place - maybe there's something strong down here! "Anyway, what do we do about the bat?"
"Why should we do anything?" The long-haired girl begins moving away, taking slow, measured steps. "It's a bat, leave it alone."
"Because it's alone? It's probably not part of a group, which means it's probably either sick or someone's pet and they wanted to get rid of it." You freeze. Patchouli wouldn't do that - Remilia wouldn't let her! They just found your note, and are letting you have your fun. And you're proving that you can take care of yourself! You feel better already! And the girls are moving away ... you wish you had a maid. They're supposed to keep trivial matters away from you, so you don't have to figure out whether following them is more important than doing something else.
You frown to yourself. What else could you be doing? You suppose you could be trying to find a Grief Seed, but -! You squeak again as a beam of light centers itself on you once again. Pesky humans! Then it moves away and you see the tall girl, Satsuki, move back down the tunnel. Hmm .... You grin to yourself. These girls knew who you were! They are obviously well-informed, and you lift yourself into the air to follow them. You flap your wings once or twice, but you've never actually tried to fly with just your wings before; magical flight is just so much more natural. You fly up as close to the ceiling as you can and silently stalk the girls.
Unfortunately, they're pretty close-mouthed after that. First they wake you up, then they make you bored, and now even though you're following them, you're still bored! It almost makes you want to kill something .... But haunting is so much more fun. You smirk, your bestial mouth splitting unnaturally, and make sure you're behind one of the many pillars in the big tunnel before you slowly, safely, make yourself invisible and then shift back to your normal form. You don't get why humans are so afraid of the dark - it's soft, comforting, nothing frightening in the dark - but you can certainly use such a silly fear. You wait until they're heading back toward the stairs outside the cave before you giggle loudly.
"Hehehe!"
Leaning out from the pillar, you see them all jerk in shock, beams of light playing shakily through the dark tunnel. You giggle again.
"Momo? Momo, where is it?" The tall girl seems incredibly scared, for some reason. You're not sure why - you're just letting them know you're here, right? They were looking for you, they wanted to play hide-and-seek, so why are they getting so scared now that you're here? You let the echoes die down, listening calmly as you slip closer to the group.
"I ... I don't know! I can't sense anything!" Oh, can she sense life? She must not be able to sense death, because she doesn't know where you are! You shake with joy. You're invisible - you can't be seen, can't be caught! You're unstoppable. You slowly, quietly fly toward the entrance, staying near the ceiling. Stupid humans, never looking up. When you're between them and the steps, you carefully take out Laevateinn ... and drag the tip against the wall, slowly. They jump again, and it's wonderful.
The tall girl, Satsuki, bursts into light, and now she's wearing a black outfit of some kind - and she's pointing a short staff in your direction. The other two girls wave their lights around you, and when one of them is steady, you scrape Laevateinn along the lit-up section of wall. The third girl shrieks and drops her light, but Satsuki swings her staff, sending bolts of white and blue lightning shooting out in an arc toward you - or rather, your former position. And, incidentally, sealing the way out. You giggle again.
The girls get in a circle facing outward, just like cattle, and you idly circle them, humming loudly enough to be heard. Of course, you're not stupid enough to give them a firm target - you throw your voice, sometimes to the left or right, sometimes across from your current position, sometimes behind you, and always at ground level. Then you pass near Momo, and she looks right at you - and you drop your invisibility just as she's reaching to touch her friend, and she stops, going pale and shaking uncontrollably. Satsuki seems to notice, though, because she turns toward you even before you land, and she jams her staff through your chest, angled down, shattering ribs and tearing through organs. Of course, what's more irritating is that she's ruining your shirt. You were going to let them go.
"Isn't it sad?" You look down at the staff in your chest, then up at the foolish girl. For the first time, it crosses your mind that every witch you've come across has been so young. Not that that stops you from grabbing her left hip with your left hand, the right part of her rib cage with your right hand, and ripping her in half, throwing the pieces against the walls. Something shatters musically, and the staff in your chest disappears, fading out of existence.
"Eri, run!" Momo rushes at you, and you're a little confused - she doesn't even seem to have changed at all! She's moving like a human ... and she breaks like one, too, when you backhand her and she's reduced to a bloody ruin. You frown. That makes no sense ... but when you look around for the third girl, Eri, you can't see her at all! Before, you could see a fuzzy outline, a person you couldn't describe ... now you simply can't see her. Can't ... see her.
"You can't see me, you can't see me, you can't see me, you can't see me ...." She's muttering that same phrase over and over and over ... and it's true. You can't see her. You grin. Given where the sound is coming from ....
"Hmm, I could have sworn there was a third girl!" You circle her position, talking out loud. She mutters the phrase more quickly and insistently, like she's trying to drown you out. "But I can't see her. I wonder where she is?"
"Youcantseemeyoucantseemeyoucantseemeyoucantseemeyoucantseeme...." You stop circling her, because you're standing right behind her, practically on top of her. You're pretty sure she's not looking at you, but you make a production of looking around anyway.
"I wish I could see her. That would make the next part much easier ... and more enjoyable, since I could see what she looks like!"
"YOUCANTSEEME!YOUCANTSEEME!YOUCANTSEEME!YOUCANTSEEME!" You wonder whether it's simple terror that's making her do this, or something else. You shrug - then drop down and grab the girl's arms. You pull them away from her ears and cross them in front of her, then lean in to whisper in her ear.
"That's true. I can't see you. But I can hear you. You're very noisy. Bad girl." You think about what to say next, but the body goes completely limp. You let it go as it fades into view, because it's dead. You shrug and walk away. You aren't sure which one will wake up first, or whether Satsuki will wake up at all ... but you should probably move soon. After that girl decides whether she'll become your maid. You wonder whether you'll get another gem to add to your collection instead.
