[X] Leave a note.
-[X] Telling them about the worm.
-[X] Telling them about Rider.
[X] Return to the temple and find out what happened.
-[X] Then go get some blood with Caster's help.
You sit down and take out a sheet of paper. No reason you can't be polite, after all.
"Emiya Shirou and Saber: My apologies for my sudden withdrawal, but I do not wish to trouble your acquaintance further. I must inform you of an incident that occurred in Sakura's basement - the old mage I told you about had her swallow whole a strange worm that seemed to be a Familiar of his. I do not know the purpose of this action, although Tohsaka speculated it was to allow him to communicate with her, although he should be dead now. In any case, it is something you may wish to look into when you have the chance. Also, I saw Rider observing your residence from several houses away, although she withdrew before I could speak with her. Considering her actions this night, I suspect she is more interested in her Master's continued health than in antagonizing you. Until we meet again. -Flandre Scarlet."
Quietly, you slip back down into the house and make your way to Emiya's bedroom. You consider hiding the note inside a pillowcase, so he finds it when he goes to sleep but other intruders wouldn't see it, but it's not worth the risk that he'll manage to miss it, whether by not using a pillow, by sleeping somewhere else, by it falling out, or by simply being too tired to notice it. You fold the note once and set it on the desk under the window, in plain sight, and leave the house again. And now … you turn away and fly toward the temple gate. Rider was definitely injured in her attack, but you don't know what damage she managed to inflict in return. Probably not much, considering Sasaki's skill and Ershin's nature … but no one's tried to get in touch with you, so something might have happened to Caster.
The upper stairs and final landings are a mess, not only damaged but covered in blood, and you frown when Sasaki doesn't appear to greet you. The gate itself is shattered as well, but as you watch it seems to regenerate, and Ershin steps into view as the repairs finish. You wave and hop forward, hugging the suit of armor before stepping back to examine it for damage. Deis appears and smiles warmly at you.
"Flandre. How bad was it?" You smile and shrug, taking a final look around before responding.
"Not too bad. Killed that weird mage, but I wasn't able to bring Sakura back. Caster said she might be suitable for you. Ah, along those lines - do you need the body completely healthy? Like, um, would it matter if the body's brain was damaged?" You look at her nervously as she raises an eyebrow.
"Well, I could 'puppet' a body in any condition, but it wouldn't be very effective. Actual transfer of consciousness … well, I'd have to see the body before I make any solid claims, because I might be able to fix whatever the problem is. Why?" You smile sheepishly and clasp your hands behind your back.
"Um, I didn't want Sakura getting in the way during the fight, so I slammed her head into a wall. Not sure how much damage it actually did, but she hadn't woken up by the time I left the Emiya residence. I noticed that Rider was injured when she got back - thank you for keeping her occupied! - and it looks like a mess out there. What happened?" Deis sighs and gives a shrug of her own as Ershin slowly steps under the gate.
"… Well, when I came over here, I couldn't take the viewing-ball with me, but Caster did walk her body over in case a message needed to be sent. So when the Matou mage sprang his trap, I found out when Caster fell face-first into the gate. Rider arrived while I was making sure our host was alright." She pauses as the steps of the long staircase begin bubbling, then flow back up to refill the damaged portions. "She made a few attempts to just get past Assassin instead of fighting him, but he nearly cut her to pieces when she tried that, so she fought him. Well, she attacked him; she made a few efforts to get close and overwhelm him physically, but after he took a chunk out of her side in what I swear was a physically impossible strike, she took a much more cautious approach. That gave Caster enough time to recover, and we decided to simply blow her away." She laughs and shakes her head. "She slit her own throat, and that summoned a winged horse, for some reason. I think Caster recognized it, and she flew up over the gate when she started attacking. I tossed a few smaller spells, because I was on ground level and had to worry about Assassin. Rider just hopped on the horse and charged. Assassin dodged, the horse took out the gate, and Rider just ignored all of Caster's spells. Wasn't bothered in the slightest by them."
"A pegasus." Deis looks at you, eyebrow raised. "The winged horse is called a pegasus. I think she's another Greek hero, like Heracles … well, not hero. More of a monster. If she takes her blindfold off, she starts turning you to stone - well, not you, Ershin! But flesh turns to stone." You wave your hand as Deis gives you another worried look. "I'm fine! Really, see!" You pirouette and curtsy. "I had to change dresses because of the fight with the mage. Anyway, go on. Or did she leave then?"
"No, she kept fighting. Stayed on that damn pegasus, too, so I couldn't do much even if I'd been willing to risk hitting Caster. Then she managed to hit Caster with that chain of hers, caught her in the stomach, and she jumped off and kicked Caster to the ground. When she tried to follow-up we were able to stop her, and I even managed to freeze her right shoulder and the side of her head, but she'd have been able to finish Caster if she hadn't decided to run away." You nod, then frown as a thought strikes you.
"What about Sasaki? You said he dodged Rider's attack, so why didn't he help once she got past him?" Deis shakes her head.
"It turns out that he and Caster don't really get along. His job is to guard the gate, and so he does - but he's apparently not willing to step inside to help her if she needs it. Well, I'm not sure he's even able to, because Caster was more upset that Rider managed to pass him than that he didn't come in to help. Anyway, she did something that … kind of pulled his chest apart. It didn't kill him, but I guess he's still recovering from it. He'll at least warn us if someone tries to get past him, though. Anyway, Caster still seemed a little confused, and she had to heal her left arm, so she headed back to her place. And I've just been picking up around here, worrying about you and whether you're getting into trouble when I won't be there to help you out." You try to smile, then just hug Ershin's helmet. Its arms carefully return your gesture, and some very carefully controlled wind dances through your hair. You pull away and smile, then bow and wave at where you think Sasaki is. Good gate guards should be well-appreciated, after all.
"I've been careful. Well, tried to be." You stick out your tongue at Deis as you start heading back to Caster's building. "The old mage - Matou, you said? - used worms to try and attack. Armies of tiny little bug-things, most no larger than my hand. The fliers were a little bigger, but … well, they're still bugs, and I have a flaming sword! The mage seemed harder to kill, so I went down and just poured power out until he disintegrated. That hurt my chest where Lancer hit me, though, so I think I'll reserve using it unless I have to. Took Sakura up with me, since Caster said she might be a good candidate for you. I guess she's a really powerful mage? Anyway, I ran into Tohsaka again, and we talked a little; supposedly they didn't step in when I was fighting Lancer because they were worried you might consider them enemies and attack them as well as Lancer. She seemed overly interested in Sakura, and didn't even know she was Rider's real Master at first. Rider showed up, fought with me a bit until I let her go, and she took Sakura to Emiya. And now he knows Sakura is Rider's Master, too, and he might believe that Tohsaka is willing to kill her. And probably him, too. Anyway, I guess they're taking her to a hospital to get looked at, since she hadn't woken up at that point. And then I came here to make sure everything was going well." You slip into Caster's house and wait for Deis and Ershin to follow you.
"And also to get Caster to help you with that blood-gathering business of yours, right?" Deis's voice hardly wavers at all as Ershin calmly walks through the house. Suddenly, you tug your friend, halting it, and put your finger to your lips for silence. You sniff the air more carefully … something definitely smells off, but you can't place it. You float forward to eliminate the sound of your footsteps and peek around the corner.
"Aw. They'd look sweet if it weren't for the fact that he shows less emotion than Ershin." You scowl inwardly at Headless as you watch Caster and Souichirou. She seems … not fine, exactly; she's shaking a little, like she's crying, and her left arm doesn't follow her right's movements very well. She's leaning against her Master, and he … maybe, kind of, is comforting her? He's holding her, at least.
"Oh, be quiet, Headless. Where have you been, anyway?"
"I've been tired lately. I'm fine, though; I'd have talked with Caster a bit if you hadn't spoiled the surprise." You suppress a grin; she was sulking. "I was not sulking." Souichirou's head seems to smoothly swivel to the left as he notices you. Hm.
