Curses.

Well....I suspect that if we asked Ilya to please not attack Caster while we have a rematch with Lancer, she'd probably agree. To watch our fight if nothing else.

There is a very high chance that Ilya won't be target Caster tonight since we pretty much tell her where Emiya lives.( you know, the main reason why she join this wars)

Eh, it could go either depending on her mood. Ilya is whimsical like that. She could decide to take a crack at Caster on principle of having tested everyone else, might as well test her.

Due to Lancer's Battle Continuation, I'm more comfortable crippling him first before killing him.

...Why? Why would you count on us A. being able to cripple Lancer, even with a numerical advantage, B. him not being able to Disengage once it's clear the situation does not favor him, or C. Kotomine busting out a Command Seal.

Plus, just because Flan thinks she can take his spear, doesn't mean it will work. Lancer's not gonna live forever, so even if he can be parting from his spear it will be fleeting.

I'm worried about Flan letting her guard down due to not understanding Battle Continuation like Kotomine did in UBW. Unless she crushes his "eye" or head, I'm worried about his counterattack.

B. him not being able to Disengage once it's clear the situation does not favor him,

I wouldn't mind this.

or C. Kotomine busting out a Command Seal.

Unless we're willing to instantly kill Lancer by crushing his "eye" this is always going to be a concern during the fight.

Plus, just because Flan thinks she can take his spear, doesn't mean it will work. Lancer's not gonna live forever, so even if he can be parting from his spear it will be fleeting.

Flan might care about his spear, but I don't. People familiar with the Fate mechanics will realize it's a difficult prospect, more effort than I'm willing to put in. I only care about disarming him.

-[X] If he proves to troublesome to disarm, kill Him.

Probably will add something like this after I get home from work.

@HymnOfRagnarok you are currently voting for letting Illyasviel fight and for Flandre fighting. Is the highlighted portion supposed to have an if-then clause?

My bad.

Those are worth worrying about, but Flan did already savage Lancer pretty good so she knows he can take a beating.

More importantly, once Lancer had Flan's number he was pretty consistently coming out ahead in their bouts. Four of a Kind will help, but the fact of the matter is that Lancer is more skilled.

I really don't think Flan needs to give herself a handicap in trying to keep Lancer alive while disarming him. Lancer's a Hero, he's not going to let that spear go easily. Especially since Flan already stated a desire to take his spear, so he'll put the pieces together pretty quick and find a way to use it against us.

Yes, so why add to our troubles by trying to steal from Lancer and keep him alive? It's just making our life more difficult for a gamble I don't see paying out. Not the way the option is presented, and not the meta-reasoning you propose.

I sincerely think that will be harder than killing Lancer.

Also, he can dick over attempts to disarm him by just vanishing the spear in our hands before we can pull it away from him (we have no chance of knocking his weapon out of his hands).

I don't intend to keep him alive. I'd just prefer to make sure he can't get back up after destroying his limbs.

I sincerely think that will be harder than killing Lancer.

That might be true. I'm not arrogant enough to assume my suggestion will automatically be successful. I don't know what mechanics go on behind the quest.

If we're willing to crush his eye then killing him would probably be super easy but I'm hoping to save that for Gil, though that's a whole different worry.

Also, he can dick over attempts to disarm him by just vanishing the spear in our hands before we can pull it away from him (we have no chance of knocking his weapon out of his hands).

If he does vanish his spear, we simply slaughter him with that opening.

I've edited my vote to reflect my opinion.

But I suspect Flan will be aiming to keep him alive, because as far as she knows Lancer's spear will disappear if he's dead, and her motive to tke the spear is to give it to her sister.

You may not intend to keep him alive, but IC? Flan will. And that will change the tenor of the fight significantly.

If he does vanish his spear, we simply slaughter him with that opening.

Again, I find that doubtful. Lancer will simply go from his spear being manhandled by us, to it temporarily vanishing out of our grip, and promptly reappearing in his grip. All he needs to do is make sure it's out of our hands.

Under those circumstances, he's still coming out ahead. And seeing as Flan would be fighting to take the spear, she wouldn't slaughter him; she'd keep trying to take the spear.

I think you're going too meta in what you want to happen, and not considering what Flan will actually do.

You've brought up some good points, but like I mentioned before, I've edited my vote to more accurately reflect my intention. That's all.

Lancer Versus Berserker

You study the distant Servant. The injuries he suffered against you and Deis seem to have healed, although that's not particularly surprising … but he's simply waiting up the road from where you are, between you and the temple. "Should we ask him which of us he wants to fight?" Illyasviel laughs playfully and smiles before shaking her head.

"There's no need for that, Flandre. A Servant approaching a Master is a threat to that Master. This is Grail War business, and if he wanted to fight you, he should have waited until you were alone. Berserker!" It's not too much of a problem that she's taking the fight out of your hands, although it does mean you probably won't get a chance to take Lancer's spear from him. On the other hand, while you could probably beat Lancer without feeding, you would almost certainly need to feed after, and he's definitely not an easy opponent. You frown as the enormous Servant simply appears in front of Leysritt - he simply wasn't there, you're certain of it … which means they aren't simply becoming invisible like you'd thought. You feel a little better about not being able to detect Sasaki when he's not visible. Lancer seems surprised by Berserker's appearance - perhaps he really was here for you? - and crouches. "Crush him, Berserker." He roars, making you wonder how Illyasviel doesn't wince at the volume, and leaps forward; Lancer's spear glows brightly for a moment before he rushes forward to engage the charging Servant. He turns aside Berserker's first strike, and the explosive power of the Greek Servant blasts through the guard rail. "You're going to stay and watch, aren't you, Flandre?" Sella half-turns in shock.

"Lady Illyasviel!"

"It's alright, Sella." The servant frowns before bowing her head in acquiescence, and Illyasviel looks at you, smiling.

"Of course, Illyasviel. You got to watch my fight against Lancer, and now I get to watch yours." She laughs and claps her hands before turning back to the fight. You can't tell if Lancer is actually hitting Berserker and not doing serious damage or if he's simply missing - it took thrusts to deal any substantial damage to Berserker with Laevateinn, after all. Not that Berserker seems to be paying any thought to defense. In any case, the narrow roadway is more detrimental to Lancer than to Berserker, because he can't get around his opponent and fully utilize his agility. As if reading your thoughts, however, Lancer uses one of Berserker's wild swings as a lever and launches himself over his opponent, and when the hulking Servant spins to make an attack he darts underneath it and attacks from behind. Amusingly, given the great reach the two Servants have, it seems the safest place is at hand-to-hand range, but even with his speed, it's only a matter of time before Berserker lands a hit.

Indeed, only a few seconds pass before Lancer is forced to change tactics. Berserker swings down, shattering the road behind him. The spearman takes the brief respite not to make more attacks but to put distance between himself and his foe. His stance shifts, that same high guard stance he used right before he used his Gae Bolg attack … and, like you, Berserker charges right into it as the spear flares with power. Unlike you, his frenzied swing meets a shield, slamming helplessly against the air as Lancer's cry echoes back toward you. Illyasviel sighs unconcernedly before frowning in thought, and you turn to frown quizzically at her, because she seems almost unaware that her Servant that wouldn't lose … just lost. You shake yourself and start to walk forward as Lancer steps out from behind the massive Berserker. Your eyes widen as Berserker rises from his slumped position and his huge stone weapon spins with him to slam into Lancer. The warrior, warned by some sound or heroic intuition, manages to interpose his spear and prevent the full force of the strike from tearing him in half.

"I did tell you that Berserker wouldn't lose, didn't I?" You turn away from the reinvigorated Berserker's furious assault on Lancer to look incredulously at Illyasviel, and she giggles. It does explain why she wasn't concerned about you killing Berserker, and actually seemed to expect it …. Her frown returns as she watches her Servant bat Lancer down the road toward you and leap to catch up. "Hm. Lancer managed to kill Berserker with that attack …." You nod - most things tend to die when their hearts are pierced and their body riddled with iron thorns, after all - but when you feel Illyasviel's stare you turn enough to see her while still keeping the fight in the corner of your eye. "But you didn't die. You were hurt, but you didn't die when you should have. You're very interesting, Flandre Scarlet." You match her gaze for a moment, then stick your tongue out. She smiles and shakes her head. "Well, I'll let it go for now." She turns back to watching the fight, but it seems that Lancer has had enough. The battered Servant loosely guards against Berserker's next strike, allowing the hit to launch him far to the side and away from the road. He fades out of visibility before he lands and you lose track of him, but Berserker doesn't pursue him and Illyasviel sighs unhappily. Maybe because he fled before she could kill him? You look for injuries on Berserker as he walks toward you, but nothing reveals itself to you - you can't even see the heart-piercing thrust that killed him. You take a step back toward the railing and stretch, conscious of Sella's suspicious gaze.

"So, are you going to make an attempt on Caster tonight?" Sella and Leysritt both stiffen noticeably, but Illyasviel simply walks forward to meet her Servant, and when he towers over her, she spins to face you with a cheerful smile.

"Hmm … no, I don't think so. I'd like you to be fully recovered when Berserker fights you. I want to see how many of his lives you can take before he makes you give up." Your eyes widen as you wonder how she knew you got into a fight, and she laughs. "It was so obvious, though! That was Rider, wasn't it? She attacked the temple, and you drove her off, forcing her to use her mount to escape - that was the bright light leaving the temple." You stare blankly at her for a second before laughing. It's certainly close enough, if not completely accurate …. You smile ruefully and shrug.

"I've lost track of time, I suppose." Illyasviel wags her finger at you mock-scoldingly before looking up at Berserker fondly.

What do you do?

I can't help but note that Ilya said before he makes you give up, not before he kills you.

I'm...pretty sure that means Ilya plans to take us alive. Or at least let us live. She is not shy about splattering people over the pavement, so this would choice strikes me as Very Significant.

D'awww.

Of course this does fill me with more reservations about crushing Berserker's eye. Maybe give Ilya some warning before we do it, so she holds it against us less if we do end up doing it. She'll be devastated either way, but I'd feel bad about spitting on this kindness from her.
