The letter does not imply much urgency does it?
Nope. It's just a 'hey, I want to talk to you about this, could you stop by,' kind of deal.

A question. What does Lutecia and Agito thinks of Flandre?
Hmm .... (I've rewritten this ... four or five times? Not counting revisions in my head.) Agito has a lower opinion of her (because of all the things Flan has said/done to her), but she's starting to think that Flan means well, she's just nuts. Lutecia doesn't have much against Flan, personally, and she sees her as the best way back to her mother. She thinks that Flan is trying to help and wants to be friends with them.

[X] Go to Kyouko after waiting for Homura to get home.
- [X] Ask Lutecia and Agito if they want to go.

Agito - Great wisdom in one so small.
Lutecia - The poor thing

Hmm, maintaining this state should be fine. Agito would be very helpful because she knows we're insane and how to prevent people from pushing the big red buttons

Question. It is possible for Flandre to gain Lutecia and Agito as permanents travel companion/friend? Or will they leave at some point in the future on their own (Aside from Flan screwing up her relationship with them)?

Lutecia wants to get home and save her mother. However, the only method she has of attempting it is ripping open dimensional walls via brute force, which dumps her into imaginary space ... where she is completely helpless, but Flandre isn't. So - for now - she needs Flan's help. If she manages to find a method that doesn't require Flan's assistance ... who knows?

Meeting with Kyouko

You toss the letter onto the table and sigh. You still aren't sure what you want to do about her. A broken Soul Gem means it doesn't have the beautiful shine of the one you have, and unless the girl's Witch is much stronger than she is, she probably won't be that fun a fight, either. Just tell her no? Lutecia looks over the letter, frowning, then up at you. "It's from Kyouko," you say. "She wants to meet me about something ... oh! Why don't you two come with me?" Agito frowns suspiciously.

"Kyouko's the girl in charge of those girls that tried to attack us when we first got here, right? You sure you can do that?" You give a politely dismissive laugh.

"Hmph. Of course I can - they won't attack you because you'll be with me, and even if they did, they wouldn't be able to hurt you, because I'll be with you!" You grin at the red-headed fairy as she shakes her head.

"Kyouko ... she has Sayaka with her? Saya's daughter?" You nod at Lutecia, and after a moment, she nods as well. "I would like to accompany you." You grin again and dart forward, hugging her.

"Yay!" You hop back, then dart to the door and see where the sun is. "Hmm ... we won't leave for a while, though. We should wait for Homura to get home, so she doesn't yell at us when we get back." Yes, that's good advice. Avoid being yelled at whenever possible, because it's not fun. Of course, waiting around for Homura's super-Witch isn't much fun, either, but at least you have Lutecia with you to have fun with .... "Oh! And they have a beautiful piano there, too, so I can play something for you!" Agito sighs loudly and shakes her head again while Lutecia smiles softly. Yes, you can show her music ... maybe you could take her to a music store sometime, see what kind of instrument she wants to learn? You shake your head - later, later. For now, back to Homura's documents ....

You look up as Homura walks in, and she glowers at you when she sees what you're looking at. "I don't suppose you know what would have happened if Mami or Madoka came home with me?" You shrug and put a finger to your lips, tapping them speculatively.

"Um ... you would have to explain yourself to the people you call friends, tell them about your power and how you've done this before, and just what your goal actually is?" She stands still, staring at you, then jerks away and walks stiffly to her rooms. "Oh! Kyouko wants to see me, and Lutecia and Agito are going to come with me, so we'll be leaving soon." She halts and sweeps her gaze across the three of you, then sighs and continues into her rooms, closing the door behind her. You shake your head and glance at Lutecia.

"So we'll leave soon, then? Want to do anything in particular before then?" She shakes her head, and you pat her shoulder. "Then how about another snack! Snacks are delicious!" Agito snorts, and the three of you head into the kitchen.

...

It doesn't take you too long to reach the church. The sun isn't high, and it's cloudy, so you're fine, though both Agito and yourself get a few stares from people who get too close. One man, a very peculiar individual, does try to get the three of you to come with him, but he gives up after you threaten to throw him across the street. Both Lutecia and Agito notice the sense of watching once you reach Kazamino, likening it to an Area Search. Scrying, then, which explains why you couldn't find anyone watching you ... although it must be from a poor magician, if you can sense it so easily. You do meet physical watchers as you near the church, though - as you told Agito - they don't bother you.

You take them into the church proper and show them the main worship area. A few of Kyouko's girls are there, waiting ... although when you show them the piano, the girls all turn to watch you. And how could you pass up an opportunity like that? You play a couple simple songs - Greensleeves and Adelaide - and start showing her how it works and how to play. You're almost irritated when Sayaka and Kyouko walk in, but ... well, she did invite you. As if prearranged, Sayaka heads over to Lutecia as you and Kyouko walk to the front of the church. She looks worse than the last time you saw her, a strained quality to her movements and a feeling of tightness instead of relaxation.

"Hey. You been thinking about it?" You give her a sidelong glance as the two of you settle into the front pew.

"Yes, although I haven't come to a conclusion." She chuckles and shakes her head, then rubs her temple.

"Yeah, I know the feeling. Kept trying to think about that other Kyouko, the one you've got ... whether she'd be good for Momo, whether she'd fit in here. And all I can keep thinking about is how I really ought to kill her ... would that be a mercy, do you think? And is that my thought, or ... hers?" She shudders, her right arm clenching across her chest as her hand twists into a claw. Then she relaxes and grins weakly at you. "I ... I can't tell. But without talking to her, figuring out her goals, and what she'd do .... No. I'm not going to use her unless I can explain it to her personally." You nod.

"I understand. You want to make sure she aligns with your interests, and without being there, you can't do that." Your mind turns. A Soul Gem is just the soul, so ... does it need its own body to function? Can it be tricked into using someone else's body, and does that body have to be dead? Could it be put in something besides a body - human or otherwise - if the soul can be persuaded to take control? Or is there a fundamental limitation? You don't know. Maybe Homura does ... maybe you could discuss it with Kyouko? She gently flicks the side of your head, and you frown at her.

"Sorry. I just wanted to get your attention again, before I ...." She shakes her head. "What are you doing here? I mean, you could be doing anything you want, and you're hanging out with Homura and them, and you're talking with me about this, and then you're killing a few hundred people and enjoying it. It's ... you're a monster, but you're a kid, and you ... you just don't seem to fit." You give her a look, then lean back and stretch.

DM Note: Apologies for A) the tardiness of this update, and B) the rather obtuse ending. Maybe I'll take some pictures tomorrow to show what I was doing for two hours instead of writing :/ Maybe if I can get my brain working properly tomorrow I'll add some seed choices for the response, but right now I'm not sure what to put. Feel free to go in-depth if you want.

[x]Waiting for a chance at an interesting fight. Meeting new people. Trying not to destroy anything important so interesting people still talk to me. Seriously, would it kill people these days to have a huge war occasionally so I can cut loose without alienating everyone? There were so many more of them a few-hundred years ago. What happened? I mean... yeah. Now I remember why I stay in the basement so much. Why can't Valhalla actually be a place that people can go to without dying? That would make life so much easier.

[X] Bring up your speculations on the soul gem. You would also need someone that both versions of her would trust however, to calm the other Kyouko down as you left the other version of her in a bad fight. Does she know anyone who could do that? Of course, you could probably swap their soulgems by force if the other Kyouko is reluctant to give up control, but that might damage her body in the struggle.
-[X] As for the other thing...you enjoy seeing the worlds, finding interesting things, getting good fights, and stretching your wings after so long living in the basement. Of course you are a monster, you are a youkai, a vampire, a lord of the night, it is your nature to kill and devour and cause terror. You are no friend to humanity, even if you can be friends with interesting humans.
-[X] Since Homura didn't really answer the question before, you can ask Kyouko instead. Sometimes you get the urge to slaughter without restraint, perhaps she knows some way to choose better targets? Something people don't mind as much. It would be troublesome to kill someone that your friends liked.

Depending on Flan relationship at that point, she may either stay or leave. So Flan will need to work hard to keep them both. There another thing I had been wondering, it is possible for Flan to have spell-card battle to release her stress and thrill for battle? After all spell-card battle are created for battle without the need of killing the opponent since depending on how the the battle is conducted(danmaku, close counter combat or mix of both), with the rules and conditions, she could have the thrill of battle without the need of senseless destruction.

It Flan want to keep other close to her, she will need to reduce her destruction but still need to some means to release that stress/thrill for battle. After all, not everyone can get used to Flan. (Throught Lutecia and Agito seen to be getting used to her. Homura too to a certain degree.)

Not really. Part of the issue is that Danmaku is something that doesn't cater to Flan's strengths (IE, being better at killing than whatever she's fighting), and part of it's that there is no killing. It's a game to her, and one that can be fun (if she can find people who can play it against her competently without overwhelming her in terms of skill), but it's not the same as killing a bunch of people.

... she could have the thrill of battle without the need of senseless destruction.
Or the blood, the thrill of being feared, being able to actually let loose, and so on :p It's not just about the killing - that's more Headless's thing, as is senseless destruction.

It Flan want to keep other close to her, she will need to reduce her destruction but still need to some means to release that stress/thrill for battle.
Or go to places where people are already fighting, and only the fact that Flan is a nigh-unstoppable killing machine will keep them alive long enough to leave. (Which is one of the reasons I'd initially included Doom. It's all about being a better killing machine than everything else. It would, unfortunately, be rather boring, which is why I pulled it from the list.)

I did remember to take a couple pictures of what interrupted my writing last night :/

Yes, I was rolling rocks around :( The one on the top? If I mathed correctly, it comes in at 270+ kilograms*. We managed to move it ... maybe ten meters? The three rocks in the front of the second picture - two of them would be ~180 kg, the other somewhere around 220 kg, and they were transplanted around 90 meters. Fortunately, we have wheelbarrows. I seriously suggested building a catapult to get the big one down there, because it will be easier and faster than trying to haul it down by any other method except dragging it behind a vehicle.

*: Assuming limestone. And roughly correct measurements on my part. Either of those could be a mistake.

While I seriously liked the part with reference to wars in the first vote (even if it's not that consistent with epoch change and mostly small and relatively local conflicts of Europe slowly growing up in a scale) even in it's theoretical best form it won't really move a story (delivering a single point aside), so we would either get a short or filler-ish update and have to vote again or will move forward with less control.

At least I hope that our QM isn't really bothered or sad about small amount of votes and discussion. =/

Eh. Point taken. Was trying to illustrate Flandre's issues with civilized society without her using words like monster. After all, just because we're bloodthirsty doesn't mean we can't be social when we aren't.

It's not that I want to argue for no particular reasons, but we can always start some friendly quest related discussion, can we?

You see, as we see in the quest, Flan is and explicitly views/sees herself as inhuman/yokai and it's an integral part of her character. So being called "monster" may either be vieved as a compliment or, dependent on the context, a "captain Obvious" move, and calling herself one looks perfectly IC (in addition she will likely need some really strange and specific circumstances to avoid similar terms in her own speech).

Also it's not realy like she has issues with "civilized society" as a whole on some philosophical or ethical grounds or something like that. As said society is, well, a _human_ society, it is simply a background for her. By herself she will only care about stuff like that if it will have a possibility for major (and likely a long-term) complications or drawbacks. So, she is way more likely to go and kill a bunch of peple to satisfy her bloodthirst (which she has just done recently) than complain about lack of formal wars and bloodshed around.

And, (mostly infortunately in regards of Homu related intercations though) she is barely social even with her current associates, and as latest incident with Agito shows us, even this level of bloodthirst avoidance/suppression is hard and takes it's toll on her. It would be great to see how (if) it will change through the quest, as imao it's one of the main possible development points.

Is it strange that this makes a lot of sense to me? Because it does. Letting all your pent up aggression out, the excitement of battle, combined with the fact that you get a nice juicy meal if you win... Honestly, the only thing that's stopping her from killing everyone she comes across is that there would be no one left to entertain her.

To be frank I 90%ish agree and part of why I didn't use the monster angle was considering it too easy. Flandre's problem with civilized society is that it doesn't accommodate her bloodlust. Even if she doesn't care about civilized society except in the context of consequences, she's still probably realized her bloodlust and people having difficulty standing against her are connected to why it's easier for Remilia if she stays in the basement. She still gets bored enough to sneak out though of course. Whether or not it's regard for people in general or just Remilia and the SDM, she has some regard for others.

I guess it's a question of how many equals vs how many servants Flandre wants. Or whether or not Flandre has enough capacity for long term thought to conceive a world that can accommodate her desire to commit massacres and/or go all out without making things difficult for people she cares about/wants to fight again. Though her definition of caring differs from ours, giving the hell we're putting Remilia through this time. It's borderline Adorjani in a way.

So, just a head's up ... I don't know if I'll be updating today. I might; I might, but not until much later; I might not update until tomorrow.

I had a minor case of car crash (by which I mean that we both walked away from it), and I'm a tad out of sorts. If I feel up to doing the update, I will, but ... Sorry about that.

At least I hope that our QM isn't really bothered or sad about small amount of votes and discussion. =/
 I enjoy seeing it, because it lets me see how people are viewing the quest; I have inside information and I'm the one writing, so what I know isn't necessarily what people are taking from the post and, in some cases, what goals are desired from a particular situation.

Holy shit.

Did you see a doctor? Even if you can walk away, if you're feeling rattled you might have a mild concussion.
Sorry, it was more of an 'I wrecked my car and now all this stuff's happening' and associated baggage, not something worse. At least, I'm not (and haven't been) displaying any concussive symptoms, and I've been around family, so I'm probably fine. ... But no, I didn't see a doctor. Hurrah for bad decisions?

Anyway.

You look straight ahead as you finish stretching. "Well, I was thinking. You know what Soul Gems are right?" She grunts in acknowledgment.

"Yeah. Our souls got stuck in rocks. And when the soul gets corrupted enough, it twists and distorts, destroying the original self and transforming into a Witch." You nod. A true transformation, just one that isn't controlled.

"Well, the Soul Gem houses the soul, and you can move your body even though the soul isn't connected to the body directly. So ... can a Soul Gem use someone else's body, or does it have to be her own? In your particular case, would the other Kyouko recognize your body as hers, and be able to use it? And it's true that the bodies you magicians use are dead, but that doesn't mean you can't use a living body - provided that the soul can be persuaded or tricked into moving into other bodies at all. And, of course, there's the bias towards your own shape; since the soul is animating a dead body, you'd think it doesn't need to be a human body ... or even a corpse at all. Why not use a statue made of stone?" You glance at Kyouko, staring at you with her mouth agape. She shakes herself and looks away when she notices you watching her.

"Sorry, it's just ...." She trails off and you snort.

"I'm not stupid, and I'm not a kid. I'm five hundred years old, Kyouko." She sobers and nods, and you sigh. "Of course, actually waking up your counterpart is only part of the problem. The last time she was awake ... well, assuming she isn't aware of things while not connected to a body ...." Kyouko pales and takes a deep breath. "Well, her last memory would have been me killing her. So she might need some ... hm."

"Someone she trusts. And someone I trust to not tell her too much or too little." She glances back at Sayaka, who's chatting with Lutecia about something.

"Well, Sayaka was there," you say, and Kyouko whirls back to you. "Mami seemed to be in charge, and I met Kyouko first, but Sayaka was at Mami's when we fought, so she might work." She nods.

"Yeah ...." She gives you another look. You grin back, and she shudders, and you giggle.

"Thinking about something? I told you I was a vampire, didn't I? I'm not a kid, but by human reckoning, I am a monster." You hop off the pew and take a deep breath as you look up to the roof. "I am a youkai, true and powerful; a vampire, taking what I desire; a lady of the night, walking without hesitation where humans fear to tread. Causing fear and terror, killing and destroying - these are as much my nature as the indomitable will to survive is part of humanity's." You turn to face her and spread your arms. "I am a nightmare cloaked in flesh and blood, a horror greater than any Witch you can conceive, a devil that humanity wants dead ...." She stares at you, enraptured ... and then you yawn. "But what am I doing? I'm traveling worlds, thanks to a lapse of attention on my sister's part. I didn't go out much back home, because that would case problems for my sister, but now? I can see new worlds, meet new people, have exciting fights - well, sometimes - and just ... just have fun. I want friends, and I want to show my sister that I can do things on my own." You hop back onto the pew. Kyouko is still staring at you, but her expression is more of confusion than awe.

"Huh." You give her a look and she chuckles before leaning back and shaking her head. "Yeah, sorry I didn't give a more appropriate reaction, but ... well, you still look like a kid, not some horrible monster. Extra points for the delivery, though." She gives you a thumbs-up. She's probably accepting it so well because of her own situation. "... So." She takes a deep breath. "So, I'd like to try someone else's body first, before mine. Probably ... probably Yuka, she's the most like me .... If that doesn't work, we can find someone living before thinking of something else. Then ...." She stands abruptly and begins walking toward the entrance. Sayaka looks up at her as well, and before Kyouko reaches her, one of her robed guardians strides into the room. She takes off her robe and tosses it to Kyouko, who slips it on. The newcomer looks very similar to Kyouko, and she takes out a pale orange Soul Gem and hands it to Sayaka before lying on the ground. Sayaka stares at Kyouko.

"Wha-? Kyouko?"

"We're trying something. Flan there has a Soul Gem that's got me in it, so we're going to see if we can wake her up and if she'll help take care of Momo when she's ready. And she might trust you, so ...." Sayaka crosses her arms and frowns.

"I told you that I'd help take care of her, didn't I? My family would understand, and we'd be able to make sure she goes to school and all that." You wait silently. It doesn't surprise you that Kyouko didn't tell Sayaka about her suspicions.

"I ... I know. And maybe this won't work, but if it does ... well, it would help, wouldn't it?" Sayaka sighs and nods reluctantly. Kyouko turns to you as you lean over the pew in front of Lutecia, a desperate look in her eyes. "The Soul Gem?"
