Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

Now this its just funny to see the oncoming train crash coming. I mean its funny to see how Taylor's life still escalates despite everything that she does due to events outside her control, but still, a meeting with a somewhat well-intentioned parahuman racist, what could possibly go wrong?

I'll bring the popcorn and someone volunteer's to get close to the impending flames to roast popcorn sound good?

In other news, I actually thought that one of the bigger... not mistake but... a miss, yes one of the bigger misses in this chapter was that Taylor didn't try to get a read on Amy. That might have changed the whole thing, but surely a couple of days of not catching it won't make a difference.....

OK, that makes much more sense than what I was imagining. But I still can't envision Taylor willingly resigning herself to an entirely passive life as the Wards' pet wallflower. (Even assuming her shard would let her.) Far more likely IMO that she'll run away from home and just do her own thing, evading the Protectorate heroes as necessary.
Oh, no, I don't think she'll stop patrolling.

I think she'll get permission to ignore PRT scheduled Wards patrols.

They can't stop her from going out alone. They couldn't stop canon!Sophia, and they actually had reason to try in her case. What they can do is provide her with backup (in the form of a nice phone), and provide her with procedure so she doesn't fuck up their PR make any mistakes which might reflect poorly on her as a hero.

She wants to be a hero. She's already acting like a hero. They can apply a light touch and get 80% of what they want. They won't be happy about this, of course -- and neither will Taylor -- but the situation could end up being pretty beneficial.

The other thing is, they're not in a position to play hardball. If they act like bullies -- or like the upper management that union guys usually have to fight against -- then it's not difficult to imagine Danny taking Taylor's side entirely and pulling her out.

Finally, with Armsmaster soldering in an empathy emulation module, assholery has decreased by like 50% in the Protectorate's upper echelons.

Hm. Need to create a PRT agent... *looks back to see who it was that had Armsy-hero-worship*

Danny's mistake was in bypassing communication. A parent has the duty to do what is best for their child, but they must communicate it. For a father as derelict in his duty as Danny he has done near irreparable damage by making important life decisions for Taylor against her wishes and without her imput, he made himself into an unqualified authority enemy instead of a dad. Furthermore, the teenage years are incredibly important for the development of the adult identity, parents who don't let their children have a say in their own lives can stunt or cripple the child's development into an adult. Take putting a teen in rehab as an example, a parent has every right to do so, but if they don't try other measures first all they'll achieve is distance, distrust, and hatred.
Piggot isn't a biggot, she hates normal people too. It's just that normal people aren't equipped with laser farts that can level cities.

Well the Phoenix Force is well traveled it would seem..

Phoenix force: Look scion I know your lonely and all but it wouldn't work out.....I'm this being dedicated to life and your....A Space whale who kills planets to survive....it wouldn't work out.....I'd be forced to kill you after the first date.
Scion: .......

Hmm, I wonder if Piggot will take her down to see Gladly and take some of the wind out from her sails? Piggot can't prove shit, but she has her suspicions, and Taylor has a guilt and self-loathing streak so long she may as well be Catholic.

"Dean could care less about the money
I'll expect him to start complaining at some point in the future, unless you want to fix this to "couldn't care less" at some point.

As near as we can tell, your parents can submit you for Wards membership against your will.
Which sounds like the stupidest thing to do. Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing to use it in the story, just that it sounds like a stupid thing to actually try and do.

Piggot can't prove shit, but she has her suspicions, and Taylor has a guilt and self-loathing streak so long she may as well be Catholic.
Self-loathing? Definitely, though it doesn't seem as prominent here. She's angry at other people, where in canon she tended to be angry at herself.

I'd argue the guilt part, though. In canon it didn't really hit until she found out about Dinah, and a big part of that was that she considered herself to be partially response. Not to say I can't see it happening, but I'm of the opinion it probably won't, at this point, at least.

"It did," Armsmaster rumbled. "Though I can't explain the sense of impending doom that I have when I think about her meeting the Director."

"You're being paranoid," she told him with a short laugh. "It won't be that bad."

Oh Jesus.

Even I cant write an omake scene to do this justice. It is inconcievable just how bad this is going to go.

I think it's gonna be something akin to this.

Piggot is the woman getting hit in the face, and everyone else is diving for cover.

I would point out that Taylor is not known in universe to be particularly powerful (even though she is) so any arguments involving the prt poking the super powerful parahuman is based off info they can't reasonably have.

Note, boat graveyard.

(Even assuming her shard would let her.)

She doesn't have a shard here (at least not as far as I know) she has the personification of the universe inside her.

I don't know this guy or much about X-men (read Phoenix Force) but I believe PF is the personification of something.

The Phoenix Force is "the embodiment of the very passion of Creation – the spark that gave life to the Universe, the flame that will ultimately consume it."

More to the point, the Phoenix has the power to cut and re-grow any part of the universe (in addition to just destroy it wholesale), burning away the obsolete. Which gets filtered through the viewpoint of its host quite a bit, so it is by far the best to keep Joker's infamous "One Really Bad Day" theory firmly in mind when dealing with said host. Said host's sanity, patience and restraint are all that stands between you and an entity fully capable of radically remodeling your entire star system on a whim.

Unfortunately for Director Piggot, she lacks all of the above information.
