Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

@chibipoe I do appreciate the fact that people.remeber Dracula was not killed by sunlight

Such a big pet peeve.

Nice job with Glory Girl, Emma stepping up.and saving someone was cool, and Minako/Catherine are still too suspicious in their stories (both just so happen to move back at the same time.and.befriend.the same girl on nearly the same week...)

I wish I could figure out where the Sunlight kills vampires thing came from, I really do.

Regarding Mina & Catherine. Sometimes a coincidence is just that?

Either Nosferatu or the Dracula Plays.

Every coinicedence deserves a review because they likely aren't ... in universe. I suppose this is you confirming it is a coincidence?

Nosferatu. It was part of their effort to not get sued for copyright infringement for using Dracula as source material. (They were unsuccessful and all copies were ordered burned by a judge, only one survived)

It comes from the medical condition Porphyria, where the body can't adequately repair damage from UV exposure. It's also where the drinking of blood comes from, as sufferers of the disease would drink fresh blood to restore hemoglobin.

It was a surprise that C would be back in BB and Catherine wheedled getting to blow off school for a few extra days so she could start at craphole central with her friend, who had gotten back from family things(Minako remained after C left, til family stuff yoinked her away and back.

So best friend Vicky is a go?
I always thought that would be a good hetero pairing.

You got the queen of escalation, a hard woman making hard choices because shes the right woman in the wrong place.

And then you have the flouncy kinda ditzy girl reminiscent of wonder woman, who can take hits and keep coming, she can take and keep moving forward.

---

Taylor - Wow... have villains figured out my idiom finally? There is like nothing to do!

Vicky - Wana go punch nazi's in the face?

Taylor - Oh fuck the hell yes!

Well, we now know at least one thing about Catherine: she ships things wrong. Weaponsmith/Wyvern is the OTP, everyone knows that.

Come on people, we all know that there's only one romantic pairing that could possibly be conceivable in Firebird:

:pScion/Phoenix Force:p

Oh, I know. I just have to ride herd on things or the next thing you know, we'll have a five page divergence on that subject that won't have anyone joking.
Ah, sorry then.

Back on topic! I'm gonna spoiler the following because, while not actually a spoiler, it is kinda long.
Catherine, Minako, and coincidences:
"Avoid who?" Catherine said, settling at the table opposite Minako. "Hey, Taylor. And you, you're Minako, right?"

The other girl bobbed her head, half-smiling. "Pleased to meet you."
"Oh, a pair of independents," she said, flipping through her papers. "They've been harassing the Merchants with a fair degree of success. The reports from the thinkers peg them as possible Wards candidates. I think I have the file about them… Oh!"

. . .

"It's alright," he said, neatly gathering the papers up into a tidy stack. He glanced at the one on top, which had been what she was about to show him, he thought. "Hanabi and Rockshow? Odd mix of names."

"Oh, those two," she pursed her lips as they both stood. "They were approached by Triumph, but didn't seem interested. The ones that I meant are a couple. Or siblings of some sort. The thinkers weren't entirely sure, with the information we have.
Catherine smiled. "What I didn't mention, is this isn't the first time I've been to Brockton Bay. I knew Minako from before and we kept in touch. Soon as I heard we were coming back here, hopefully for good, I let her know."

So, the first and third quotes confuse me, since Catherine asks for clarification on Minako's name when, in the third quote, it is revealed that they are old friends. I'm not sure if this means they lied to Taylor, you changed your plan for the story since the first quote and have not yet changed it, or some other reason.

Now the second quote, that's something that really caught my attention. Don't know if it was noticed (or at least mentioned) by anyone after the interlude was posted, but I thought I'd bring it back up now that Catherine and Minako are even more suspicious (not to be confused with sinister, although, this is Worm... naw, I'm sure everything will be smooth sailing :D). It's seeming more and more likely that they're Hanabi and Rockshow...

Thoughts, anyone?

I've already explained how suspicious they are. The fact that Taylor hasn't notice, especially for the first - third lines, points to wlling ignorance.

She doesn't notice, because she doesn't want to.

I have, in fact, gone back and made some adjustments to the prior chapters for a couple of things. If anyone notices divergences between her and SB, let me know and I'll sync them. But as it stands now, I adjusted the forcefield bits(or at least the ones I could find) and the initial conversation between Taylor, Catherine and Minako.

Oh.

Whoops. :p

There are some that are scratch off 3 and win. They're usually chump change, but a few of them will say 'Scratch X number of spots, if you scratch more than x, you invalidate it.' Honestly, as you say, you -can- just hand the card over without actually scratching anything, but a teenage girl isn't likely to know that. The understanding most people have is you have to scratch off to win. /thingsyoulearnworkingretail
I don't understand what you mean here. You can buy a scratcher card and then immediately turn it in for money? :???: I'm misunderstanding something.

To give yet another answer in the chorus that has followed, I read an article stating that it was a movie director essentially playing with the pyrotechnics/special effects that had recently become available.

Similar to how Dorothy's silver slippers were changed to ruby slippers because they were (one of) the first "technicolor" movie(s) and the director wanted the slippers to pop on the screen.

For most of the scratch off cards that you can buy from gas stations and/or from a lottery vending machine that have some form of game where you're supposed to scratch off to win X, you can just hand the card to the attendant, provided they have the proper equipment(and they should) and if it's a win, they can scan the barcode on the back. No scratching required as the system will tell if it is a winner when it scans. There -are- a few that actually require you to scratch and if you don't match, you lose. Those are pretty rare though.

The thing is, the average person doesn't know that. Hell, I worked retail and even people who did it on a regular basis still went through the process of scratching, when they didn't have to.

As a teenager, Taylor isn't likely to know the specific ins and outs of how the lottery system works so she would be basing her precog when she looked at the cards for: "What happens if i scratch 1, 2, 3 off, etc?" to determine how to make sure she got funds from the cards. In addition to: "If I buy 1 card, what will be the results? Two cards, etc, etc. Til she knew how much to spend to get to cards that would give her something substantial/weren't chump change/worthless.
