You sigh; it seems that even after centuries of riding and working with wyverns, humans haven't figured out that just because they think in the short term like a dragon-self doesn't mean they're wrong.
New crack theory: Humans and wyverns are the result of primordial manakete getting split in half.
If this somehow gets confirmed, I'd like to pretend I knew this was true all along. If it gets jossed, forget I said anything.

"Should we stop it?" you ask, pointing after the fleeing mount.

"Nah, horses aren't as smart as pegasi," she says as she turns back. "It'll get lost and wander back into the Imperial camp long after we're gone."
I'm not sure what kind of threat Ryza thought a fleeing horse might cause, but I don't know how to finish this sentence. I'm not trying to make fun of Ryza. I guess it makes some amount of sense that she wouldn't quite grok what ordinary animals are like?

Second, this is a war! You do not win a war by sparing the enemy!
You also don't win a war by slaughtering the enemy. That's not even remotely an option unless you outgun the enemy so badly that you should be able to win by just showing up.


You win a war by destroying your enemy's ability to fight. That can involve a setpiece battle that scatters the enemy army, or a siege that takes control of some key strategic or symbolic location, or just making it prohibitively expensive to keep soldiers fed in your vicinity.

As things stand, our alliance is meaningfully disrupting the Empire's supply lines, even though the Imperial army is still in its logistical driveway. Without getting into a tangent about pre-rail logistics, it's much harder to guard the "foraging" parties you need in hostile territory than supply caravans from nearby loyal/compliant towns, and needing to bunch your army up in one place makes that even harder.

If we not only disrupt Imperial supply lines but their supply depot, any general who cares more about keeping his army intact than listening to the Regent's ravings would call an invasion impossible. And yeah, by genre convention the Regent is going to overrule that general and either execute him or demote him to a filler map sub-boss. (Assuming he hasn't already executed or demoted any generals who are more loyal to common sense than to him.) But by genre convention, any plan which prevents war with minimal casualties is always the heroic plan.

I'm inclined to argue that the mages should be one of the priority targets. Magic is *dangerous*, and one of the few ways to really hurt Ryza easily.

Yeah, I'd like Alectai's "no supplies" plan a lot better if there was a line in there about sniping the mages.

Smashing their logistics train will be ruinous, to be sure. An army marches on its stomach, and unless these guys were already expecting wagon trains to show up on the morrow, the next few days after this battle are gonna suck fat monkey balls for them. (Not to mention we're already outdoing them in archery, and that's going to get much worse if Ryza does a driveby on their arrow storage.)

But on the other hand, the Empire is hard-up for casters at the moment. The mages in this camp are, if anything, even harder to replace than the food and weapons. The enemy will always have the numbers advantage, so we need to push for magical/ranged supremacy if we can.

With a cry, the man's saddle-harnesses are severed with a few well-aimed stabs and cuts, causing him to fall off. Instantly, the wyvern abandons all attempts at fighting back, instead diving to catch its rider before he hits the ground. While heroic, the move is ultimately doomed, as the three pegasi dive faster and a moment later, two lances stab behind the wyvern's flaming wings while a third strikes in the vulnerable point at the base of the skull, causing the burning membranes to go dark as the wyvern topples from the sky, landing with a crunch on its rider, surely crushing him.
A moment of silence for that heroic Wyvern, he could have kept fighting but risked it all for his partner without a moments hesitation, sadly it didn't pay off for him.

Just because these are our chosen targets doesn't necessarily mean we may get lucky and snag a few others in the bargain, but ultimately the objective is to stop the invasion and if they cannot be used as an offensive force, the invasion is stopped.

Historically, if an army was going to starve, they'd desert first. Who's going to stop them? The other starving soldiers, who also want to desert?

This generally turns one concentrated, organized army clearly aimed at strategically significant towns or castles into a whole lot of hungry bandits. Considering both the tactical simplicity of picking off a hundred thousand bandits a few hundred at a time, and how devastating a pre-industrial army can be to any communities within its foraging range, this is generally an improvement.
 
Now we hope they're not magically logistics immune...

It's Fire Emblem, one of few tactical RPGs that actually does have some semblance of logistics with weapon durability and limited use medicines and healing.

If by some horror they have managed to escew those limitations...We might as well be facing the monsters of Fomortiis.

No guarantee we won't end up fighting directed monster forces, though, we've already seen many of the monsters that were present in Sacred Stones so they're clearly around, but whether the enemy forces can harness them effectively? Let's just hope not, we already saw a lich.

We're dealing with limited use things.

By game logic our Dragonstone and tablet should have limited uses. Everyone else has to deal with silly little things like metal dulling or running out of the powdered remains of our ancestors.

Although, I'm pretty sure we're well below transforming 50 times...
 
Game logic or no, clobbering their supply reserves will make fighting them easier.

Will probably take a similar sort of feel as the Burn Supplies chapter in Radiant Dawn, River Crossing (3-3).

Not necessarily. Unbreakable PRF weapons do have precedence - mostly legendary swords, sure, but Awakening's Falchion was basically an unbreakable Iron Sword with dragon-effectiveness for most of the game.

For some reason I misremembered Falchion as being breakable. But there's still a lot of 'legendary' swords that are.

I remember once challenging myself to get through Lyn's story with her solo using no other weapon but Mani Katti because I thought it was silly.
